**INITIAL REVIEW**…read more Some of you know that I am often brought to historic downtowns and villages in hopes of "letterbox seeding" them. As I get close to concluding Historic Downtown Melbourne/Melbourne Main Street, I am moving both south to Sebastian Riverview Area and north to the Eau Gallie Art District. Today, I decided to further check out the Sebastian Riverview Area and it looks like I'll be getting more done here as I discover more "mom n' pop" shops. One of the restaurants in the area I've been to before is Cafe Latte da. Located on the northside of the Sebastian Riverview Area on the riverside of US-1 (across the street from The District), Cafe Latte da is a smallish shop ran by two women. It is a quaint coffee shop that looks like stepping into grandma's house, well, at least the view you'd think seen on classic television, especially on Lifetime. The women are very kind. Very friendly and admirable and I had such a nice conversation with them. As for the food, it was delicious for what they have. Definitely a place you want to support. Now for the overall criticism. As much as I like this place, I most stress critical points that may be a factor for other patrons. For starters, the two women seem to be the only ones running this place, so there is a layer of grime often associated with homes ran by older people. Each menu had a bit of stickiness to it. For me, not a problem. But I know it can be an issue for others. It is quite evident things need to be wiped down. You can especially see crumbs on certain displays. Next, the food menu is good, but can be limited given the limits they have. Take that as you may, but so far, everything they had served me was delicious which is the more important factor in my opinion. Ultimately, I am going to give an overall rating of three out of five stars. It is good to go here if you can be graceful on some things. But there are some, especially some of my friends who are germiphobes and get uppity if a restroom doesn't have a means to open the door without using your hands. Still, give these ladies and their coffee shop some love. They are pillars in expressing and progressing the community with all the local artists displaying their art, events, and activities they support. I truly hope someone can give them the assistance they need because this place is great, but I can sense there can be issues others might see, especially with certain priviledges we Americans have when it comes to eating out.,

**INITIAL REVIEW**…read more While heading home from my work in Palm Beach Gardens, I decided to really explore Indian River County for coffee shops and houses. Given the fact I work overnights, coffee shops/houses/roasters and kava bars are quickly becoming my "after work bars" of choice. Doing a quick search here on Yelp, I found Beeb's Beans was located close to another coffee bar I like, Cafe Latte Da, as well as being a business in The District. I just had to check it out... and I am happy I did, for many reasons which I will explain in this initial review. Though an address is provided, as mentioned above, Beeb's Beans (which I will shorthand simply to Beeb's for the remainder of this review) is located on the south end of The District. It is one of the businesses that occupy the "cute blue house" at the south end of Village Square Dr. before it intersects into US-1. There is a front and back entrance into this very small and adorably quaint coffee shop. Not much room to sit in which probably 10 people at most can sit and enjoy the ambiance at a time. Speaking of ambiance, it is quite simplistic, but there are little slivers of personality, the kind you only get being loved among the community you live in. And speaking of community, apparently Beeb's is one of these mom n' pops that support other mom n' pops as well as people who want to showcase their talents. For example, their bagels are made fresh daily from a local bagel shop in Vero Beach, Coastal Bagels. As for their baked goods and sweets, they are made by their friend Michelle. Take note that Michelle isn't a baker by profession. As a matter of fact, she's a hairdresser. Yet, she has a talent for baking and bakes the sweets and baked goods for Beeb's. So what does Beeb's actually make? Well the coffee and drinks. I had their flat white, iced chai latte, and the asiago cheese bagel with two Philly cream cheeses. My regards goes to Coastal as they make a fantastic asiago bagel. As for the flat white and iced chai latte, both were good but I will stress they don't stand out on their own from others. But still, they are good drinks, and there are other drinks I need to try out in future visits. Ultimately the owners, Rob a.k.a. Beeb and Kira created something special here. Beeb's is a community coffee house that is known, loved, and supports the community, something I truly admire amongst mom n' pops. Ergo, I will give them an initial rating of four out of five stars. I am sure Beeb's will remain consistent if they've been here for a decent number of years, but I must stay the course of my procedure and visit a few more times before I give them their fifth star for consistency. Still, I would definitely suggest people try out Beeb's if not for the community feel of being welcome home along with good coffee and good food. Michelle makes the scones and sweets. **INITIAL REVIEW**…read more North Indian River County, specifically Sebastian and Fellsmere have a very limited kava community scene. As a matter of fact, I can boldly say as of the publication of this review, the only mainstream kava business this area has is in Riverview with an Island Root Kava, which happens to be the biggest kave organization in the United States at least. And though I have no issues with Island Root Kava, I prefer local mom n' pop kava bars, and fortunately for Sebastian, they have one, Valhalla Coffee & Kava (which I will shorthand simply to Valhalla for the remainder of this review). Yes, by its name, Valhalla is also a coffee shop, but they also serve tea - both traditional and kratom - food, and also a vape shop. Given how small Sebastian is compared to other communities/towns in Indian River County, Valhalla being a "one-and-all" stop for these specific genres of business seems to work tenfold for them. Valhalla is located in the heart of residential Sebastian, right between the businesses close to I-95 (just east of the interstate) and Riverview which is also Downtown Sebastian. They are the eastern-most business in a small multi-business building which consists of them and two or three other businesses including a church. You will also know it is the right place as there is a fountain in the center of a very little "courtyard." Valhalla is quite a small place compared to other kava bars I have been to. I can even daresay they are smaller than my home kava bar, Kalea Kava. It works for them though as they are more than just kava (and kratom). They have a wide selection of coffee and traditional teas, and food, especially breakfast. Starting with their menu, I had a fair share of what they have to offer. For kava, most of what they offer are company products in which they provide for sale, but their two in-house kava shots, Odin's Nectar and Ragnar's Reef, are highly-concentrated kava shots with a lot of flavor. Pertaining to the "norm" menu items, their iced coffee is good for what they offer and they have numerous options to enhance the flavor including different sugars and syrups. So nothing unique, but you can make a simple iced coffee to your preference easy-peasy. And lastly, their food options are simple fair primarily on sandwiches. I had their grilled cheese and quesadilla and they are delicous. Simply made and priced well. I actually had to leave because I kept eating grilled cheese after grilled cheese after grilled cheese. I am a grilled cheese fiend. Ultimately, the biggest reason for me to come here is the community. Unlike other kava communities, this one definitely shows more unity given the fact that Sebastian is definitely more right-leaning. Yet despite where you stand, everyone is kind and respectable to each other, kind of like how it was amongst people in the 90s before political correctness became the cudgel for destruction it is today. Because of its position in the community it is in, I am giving Valhalla a four-out-of-five star rating for this review. If you every stop by, tell Carlin I said hello. He's usually the tender there when I arrive on Friday nights. And if Valhalla remains consistent with their wares and service, I will definitely update this review, giving them their fifth star for consistency.

My boyfriend and I sat…read moreourselves and were immediately put off by the aroma of our table as it had recently been cleaned with a not-so-fresh rag/dirty water. It was very unpleasant and present the entire meal. We started with coffee and as I poured a single-serve creamer into my cup it curdled; I've never seen this before and I'm sure this was just a fluke but it seemed like an omen of things to come. I asked for a fresh cup of coffee and more creamer as we were then out, and we placed our food orders along with a glass of OJ. My boyfriend chose sliced tomatoes as the "breakfast side" accompanying his combo and was told they "no longer do that." You can get sliced tomatoes on any burger/sandwich/salad or their plethora of listed BLTs but not on the side? Strange for a diner/cafe, especially during tomato season in FL. Maybe take it off the menu as a listed breakfast side option. After waiting for about 10+ minutes for creamer (two waitresses, three small tables each), I finally went to grab a few from the empty table adjacent from me and was politely scolded by another waitress to "just ask if I needed cream." Well I did, but no one came and I'm not going to sit not being remembered while my now second cup turns cold (no one brought my orange juice either). The couple next to us, who had arrived and ordered after us, got their food first as did a gentleman on the patio, which felt odd/intentional. The couple also were offered sliced tomatoes as a breakfast side option by their waitress, so what's the deal with that? We felt judged. I'd like to mention that the man next to us brought in a dog in a vest reading "emotional support animal" that he initially had in his lap (these are NOT service animals) and later put on the floor. The staff said nothing despite there being a sign on their door stating they were no longer allowing animals inside; they have a full patio of outside seating. It would have been nice of the staff to follow their own rules and offer them a table outside. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to dogs. When we got our food (I had to ask again for the orange juice) I was very disappointed. I had ordered the California Benedict and the "avocado" was pre-packaged guacamole-like paste from a container. The mixture was also warm, as were the soggy tomatoes underneath, almost like they were cooked. It is not difficult to make a simple Benedict and just before serving add some fresh sliced tomato and avocado. Would you serve a burger with hot lettuce and cooked tomato? Same concept. In a word, this meal was unappetizing. I scraped off the topping and ate what I could around it. The eggs were nicely poached, the potatoes seasoned, the English muffin toasted. The OJ was delicious, the best part of the meal. The uneaten removed pile of my entree went seemingly unnoticed by our waitress who was by no means rude but just seemed a bit short with us. My boyfriend's combo, while tasting fine, was smaller than we're used to at most breakfast spots (especially for the menu calling it the "Belly Buster") and he found it difficult to eat his pancakes as they were on the same small plate as his yolky eggs. Overall the food and service both left a bad taste in our mouths and it was not a great experience. We will not return, nor recommend.
