Food and service is good. Love the eclectic music. Beer selection is good. Nice escape from the heat and busy streets.

Awesome spot for breakfast, great coffee, and tasty food. Late night it feels like a little chill hidey-hole tucked away from the chaos of Queen St. mall. Worth a visit!

I was in Brisbane this past week and was staying near Elizabeth Street. I always love supporting local businesses, so I found Brew through Yelp and was able to walk there from our hotel. Location: Brew is tucked in an alley way on Lower Burnett Lane, to the left of 7 Eleven. If I wasn't deliberately looking for this place, I think I might of passed by it without realizing anything was there. However, I'm glad I knew that there was a large mural of a woman to look out for. Atmosphere: The place itself had a really fun and artistic vibe. There are a bunch of live concert posters on the wall as you walk into the building as well as funky art sprinkled along the walls. There's a bar that's to your right and a large, colorful tree that's painted on the left side wall. There are also a variety of seating options that are available, from cushion type of chairs, to 2-seaters, 4-seaters, and a large table. Service: We arrived about 30 minutes after Brew opened up for business. The staff there were really friendly. We are from America, so when I ordered a cup of coffee, I learned that our version of a "drip coffee" wasn't on the menu. However, our server recommended a few items from the menu. In all honesty, I forget what I ended up with but it did come with a cute art design! Food: Their menu is super cute and comes within a vinyl record backing. There is a day menu (until 3pm) and a night menu. I ordered a Haloumi bagel, which had tomato, onion, spinach, pesto, chili jam, and Japanese mayo. In all honesty, I never had haloumi before. But this bagel made me a fan of haloumi! In fact, this was the best darn bagel sandwich that I have ever eaten, and I order bagel sandwiches quite a bit. Pros: -A variety of vegan and gluten free options -Friendly staff -Best darn bagel sandwich that I have had to date! -Their restrooms are nice and clean Cons: -N/A

5 stars for ambiance, service and the coffee but 4 stars for the food (which in my book is still above average). We literally walked past this place 4 times trying to find it. It's in a little alleyway with just a chalkboard sign and very easy to miss. The tables have cute decorations and we really wanted to sit at the barrel table but unfortunately it was in the area without service. They offer a wide selection of alcoholic drinks which I did not get to try as it was only 9:30 in the morning. For our drinks we had a flat white and an iced coffee drip. They were both really good and the iced coffee drip came on a cute platter. For food they were unfortunately out of the green eggs which I really wanted to try so we settled for the avocado toast with added bacon and prosciutto toastie. The avocado toast was good with the ricotta and squeeze of lemon and they gave plenty of pieces of bacon for the 3.50 surcharge. The prosciutto toastie kind of let me down a little and just tasted like a normal sandwich with pickled onions. I wouldn't order it again. Service was good and they were very accommodating with letting us move to a table near an outlet.

    Chicken Pesto Sanger

On a lazy Monday, I decided to revisit one of my old faves in the heart of the city - Brew! It looks a bit different than from what I remember, as I havn't actually been here in a few months. All the staff have changed, and they have full table service and more seating now. I really need to switch up my sleeping schedule! Since I woke up late, I was hungry, so I went for the chicken and pesto sanger (sandwich, for those of you who don't speak Oz) and the chai latte, which I used to really love. I say used to, because today it was quite disappointing! The chai latte wasn't infused one bit and it pretty much tasted like milk. That makes me so sad because I used to love their Nine Owls Chai! Sadly, I wouldn't go for it again since I've discovered places like Banneton and The Burrow! Their panini style sandwich was good and really filling, and as always, I like the bread that they use. The portion is pretty generous compared to some places, and there's a nice thick slab of cheese amidst the chicken and rocket. The textures of the ingredients go well together, and for a sandwich, I'd give it a 4/5. I have still yet to have their drinks, but . I used to think their service was pretty mediocre, and I sometimes felt pressured to leave, even though they are a cafe with interent. Their service isn't any better these days, which really discourages me from returning, especially since I've found Bean. Despite my disappointment, I still give Brew a 4/5 because it has better opening hours than any place in the city, and because they have free wi-fi, which many cafes in Brisbane are still lacking.

    Haloumi bagels, MUST DO!

I can't begin to explain just how much I love this place, from the friendly and accommodating staff that aren't afraid to have a personality to the perfectly executed non-pretentious delicious real food. This place hit every mark and exceeds them by a mile. They offer vegan and vegetarian options, a great beer and cider selection and their takeaway haloumi bagels are a MUST do on your way out! This place is located down a seedy alley way that you might walk past, don't make the mistake of doing so, it's well worth the venture down to check it out. I almost don't want to leave this review because I don't want this place to get busier, it's my secret gem!

Smashed avocado on ciabatta with a side of bacon
    Madeline C.

Where to start?! Brew is my favourite happening place at the moment. After walking around the city after my exam on a Saturday, I was looking for a cute place to grab brunch with a friend and after failing to find something slightly appetizing she took me to Brew. I have never felt so in love with a cafe/ restaurant/bar in a while and I definitely was getting flash backs to my trips to Melbourne. Brew is tucked away down an alleyway, relatively hard to find if you're not aware of its location however, this doesn't stop it from being extremely popular. We were lucky to get a nice seat inside though it can get pretty busy and I can see there being a bit of a wait to go in depending on what time you go. The menu is reasonably priced and delicious. Plenty of options for all types plus they make awesome coffee. I ended up settling on the smashed avocado on ciabatta with a side of bacon (bit of a bacon fan) which did not disappoint. The avocado had a hint of lemon juice through it which was so lovely. The coffee was great too - you can tell they use quality beans. The only criticism I have for "Brew" is that we waited over 45 minutes for our food which to me is ridiculous when it's smashed avocado on toast with bacon... I understand they were busy but there needs to be better management in the kitchen. I know they get busy but they need to keep this in mind and potentially employ more chefs. I would definitely go back here again but if they continued with this super slow service it would definitely be a bit of a turn off... With that being said, just make sure you're in good copy where the conversation can be endless! I was lucky I was with a good friend so the time flew past but it would definitely be awkward if you were in a rush or with someone you wanted to escape from and you have to wait excessive amounts of time for simple food... Definitely check it out if you're into Indie, hipster, modern style cafes and places :)

One of my long time faves! Brew was one of the first laneway pioneers in Brisbane CBD, I have watched Brew evolve from a coffee cart down an alley into a full on awesome cafe by day and underground bar by night. Have loved it all the way through it's journey so far and am confidant that I will continue to do so. Coffee is their own blend from their roastery Little Brew in Paddington. Always good quality and they never burn the milk! Not sure why people bitch about the food - I've only ever been served tasty awesomeness. Brew has a brunch/grazing menu from early AM to 3pm and a tapas type menu for the PM - get the sliders people! And who doesn't love a place that has a wide beer & cider selection and also serves a decent cocktail?! Regularly bringing in new brews on tap for your tasting pleasure and trying out new cocktail recipes the Brew team does it up right. I have also always appreciated the regularly rotating artworks by local artists that are displayed on the walls. Even though what's on display is not always my thing supporting the local talent always gets a thumbs up.

Everyone kept telling me that, "you just have to go to BREW - you will love it". After hearing this a dozen times in half a dozen days I decided to stop being so stubborn and just go. For reasons unknown to me I tend to resist people's recommendations for a period of time before eventually capitulating. Please note I am aware of the irony that I am writing a recommendation for you right now. Initially I had a hard time finding BREW. Eventually I stumbled upon the dark alleyway that my friend had described to me close to Rocking Horse Records. Throwing aside everything that I knew about dark alleyways I plunged into BREW. I have to admit I was immediately taken in by BREW's "look"; the mismatched furniture, the clashing curtains and cement, the milk crates used to create coffee tables, playing cards used as order numbers, the service staff forsaken by their own beauty, I loved it all! I cannot give you an honest critique on the coffee I drank, as I was still dizzy from the sheer "indie-ness" of it all. This being said, I'm sure the coffee was somewhere between above average and "wowza". With this in mind, the atmosphere was still quite intimate. I felt comfortable to have a whine with my friend about whatever personal drama I was dealing with and vice versa. Oh yes! And they serve wine. I spotted a wine and cheese platter that serves two for $50! As it was the middle of the day I decided that it would be in my best interest to remain sober for a few more hours at least; however wine and cheese there remains at the top of my 'to-do' list. I have to admit that my friends were right recommending BREW to me. I absolutely adored the vibe that underpinned my entire experience at BREW. There is the sense however that BREW is perfectly aware of its own image and joyfully wears this calculation on its sleeve. In other words, they know their cool and they know you feel cool being there. BREW still seems to be in the phase of being profoundly trendy before inevitably being swamped by posers or worse, high school kids. My recommendation: get in fast, before it becomes over-brewed.

Brewed! This pub/bar is quite a cool place. I entered through the alley on Lower Burnett Lane last night. There was live music which was very impressive considering it was local talent from what I could gather. A bit of impromptu comedy thrown in between songs doesn't hurt either. The drinks were reasonably priced and the atmosphere is very cool. Will definitely be coming back to chill out here in future.

A long black in the subdued underground oasis

As usual, my Mid-Morning Un-Caffeinated Brain Fatigue (more commonly known as MUBF to those who also suffer from the crippling disease) is in full swing. In dangerous haze of uncertainty and hopelessness, somewhat bordering on delusion, I find myself staggering down a dark, underground alleyway emitting the familiar aromas of what I can only describe as heaven-sent. I find myself standing on faux turf gazing at bare lights dangling from the ceiling. I have struck liquid gold. This is Brew, where a young crowd hunker down over crates or sink into couches equipped with steaming cups of the house blend - Di Bella Nero. It is not just the coffee that packs a punch, but the baristas-cum-bartenders are in a world of their own. None of that pretentious coffee snobbery here - they chat to you like you've known them for years and have some pretty interesting insights to the range of craft beers they stock. Yes you read that correctly - not only does this place serve up a mean cup o' Joe, but tunnelling further underneath Queen St Mall is a small-stocked but intriguing bar. Anything from a range of five different cold-drip espresso martinis through to local craft beers such as My Wife's Bitter can be found in this underground beverage oasis. Or if you are after something from the grape variety, there are a selection of wines, which pair well with Spanish meatballs ($14) and an array of other tapas on offer. If you make your way down on a random afternoon, you may encounter speed poets, live bands or a movie projected onto the brick wall. Oh and be sure to nab a couch and espresso martini early - the space fills up quickly on a Friday night.

    Kyla G.

Yes Brew. For your quick pick-me-up, look -I'm-so-underground needs. To be fair, the coffee is pretty good, a lot better than most places you will find in the city. And in the evenings you can get alcohol while STILL sitting underground and feeling super hipster. Yay! And no, the staff are no snobby or pretentious- if you are a hipster as well. You have been warned.
