SCAM!!! Thank god I paid with my credit card and they recovered my money after reviewing the evidence. Now, they continue their unethical behavior, lying even tho I have laid out all the evidence for every one to see! They should be ashamed and apologizing right now. At least now this complaint, as well as the other bad reviews she already has on BBB, are going to stay there for everyone to be warned. Even though business pay a fee to get accreditation from BBB they still can become ineligible if enough people report them, so always file your complaints. I have all the phone calls and all the proof that they are the negligent ones, I spent 20 days dealing with this bird, begging them to step in, paying for vet bills, not sleeping. They lied about the bird, the food he was eating, and only after threatening with lawyers they took the bird back but let it die and then refused to give me my money back! They should have taken care of this bird from the day they were made aware that they had messed up (a few days after I had him) which I also have the moment this happened it on a recorded conversation. Instead "Urban" instructed me to run before "it dies" to the vet to "save the bird" I invite you to read my complete essay on BBB, look at all the documents and pictures and you be the judge of who's lying here. It's a shame I can't post phone call conversations here. Like I said I have several phone recordings and videos that prove -they know -they are lying. I just went there for the first time today and I was horrified. These poor birds are in pens shivering and sickly. two looked like they were dying. two others seeming to be comforted by its mate and looked depressed. idk who in their right mind would by any animal kept in these conditions. (2) Robert who responded is now talking about baby birds well there were plenty of older ones dying in a corner and the others depressed. Your other reviews say the same. This has always been a great family owned place that has never NOT know how to hand raise, socialize their birds and at the same time educate anyone who is thinking of being a bird parent! My 1st purchase was 1999. Took my two parrots (Amazon Yellow Nape & Umbrella Cockatoo) and the Yellow Nape DIED while Robert was doing his nails w/a Dremel! I'm very upset as my wife is also. The Amazon was 50+ years old and NEVER SICK! I think Robert took to long trimming the birds nails while he was conversing w/another customer&my bird was wrapped in a towel UPSIDE DOWN to long and over stressed him & the bird had a heart attack. I don't know exactly why he died but he died. The bird was loved & Cherished in our house and was a real talker. He would greet us daily and you could almost have a conversation with him. First I was told Today is not a good day. 2nd I was told by the so called manager that Brenda's Birds do not accept offers. The price is standard & someone else is interested in the bird but No deposit was received I said I have cash right now I am willing to buy right now . She said I run the store & the answer in no. In the past, we have purchased a few birds. Years back, my mother brought her parrot there to get its nails and be trimmed. The phone rang and the owner explained the bird passed that the groomer in training, squeezed the bird too hard and that must have been an egg inside the bird and the bird died. They will gladly give us the money that we paid for the bird, or we could pick another bird. Well, my mother was so upset.Six months went by.I go into the store and they didn't want to do anything about. I returned there today to see the horrific conditions of how the birds are being kept. When you first walk in the place used to be packed with birds. Now it is very limited. One bird was howling in pain with another customer there to witness running over saying that bird is in pain. I don't know what has happened to this place, but I am totally in shock and uh, very upset. There was a parrot there for sale. And the customer asked the gentleman there, where did that parrot get come from?Can I get some backgrounds. He said, quote unquote, someone found the bird couldn't tame him, so he surrendered him and he is now training the bird for resale. Why would you not advertise that bird as found?So the owner could find the bird. You're trying to make a sale off of a bird that was surrendered to you. I am totally disgusted. I will never return to this store again. After fifteen years of business with you, good riddance. read more

We love Brenda Birds! We just recently purchased a beautiful female Red Rump Parakeet and she sings so beautiful. We bought her for our male red rump who was lonely and they assisted us in making sure they would be good together. We also take our Quaker Parrot there for grooming and they always do a great job! Recently came to brendas bird and as a pet enthusiast, seeing the conditions these birds were kept in was honestly so sad ): Macaws were kept in cages that were not meant for birds with only 1 perch in them. When I walked past it , it was displaying signs of stress, it was incredibly sad. The birds looked so stressed out. 1 perch and no toys is not sufficient for a bird. So many birds were screaming ( not squawking, screaming!!) All the birds wings were clipped and falling when they flew. ( i was told it was because if they are higher than you than they are assholes). One enclosure contained two african grays... the enclosure was a size for a budgie. There was no toys in any cages & only 1 perch in each if that. The employees were honestly telling information that were lies. You could honestly tell how much they wanted to sell a bird instead of prioritizing the birds needs. Wont come back here , check out golden cookatoo instead, they are wonderful. I hope the owner reads this and betters the care of these birds. These poor birds do not deserve to be kept in environments like this. It was honestly so depressing. read more

Bought a canary for my Mom's birthday on 7/15, a week later it was dead. Spent $180 on it.. called the store and they said nothing they can do.. that you have 48 hours to take it to a vet after purchase and after that they aren't responsible. So just a heads up, if u spend that much on a bird it might be worth taking it to a vet. Very disappointing. read more

I was able to hold one and walk around with her without any pressure and getting to bond with her. Do you research before buy from this bird store go to golden cockatoo because they are cleaner and they guarantee their bird . Brenda's bird sold me and our kids a sick bird and we're very cold and rude about it . I have more than 20 videos and a camera by the cage this bird was eating. Only on a Sunday didn't eat as much . They kept my dead bird and looked at it after days of being in their possession and of course the bird was decaying and they weight of it after they kept my bird .. and that can't be used towards me saying I wasn't feeding my bird . They said they were calling me back never did . We drove there twice and they didn't want to give me my dead bird back . I also have another cockatiel that is healthy and beautiful that wasn't purchased from them read more

They tried to switch a cockatiel that We put a deposit down on. Baby was still being hand fed when a deposit was made and we were suppose to pick up in 2-3 weeks. We Visited 2 additional times to check on the bird, on the last visit the bird looked different like it was a completely different bird! Crest feathers that were grown in were now not there, wing feathers were missing, the bird's eyes seemed enlarged. We were told instead of pick up in 3 days, I would now have to wait up to 3 more weeks! Something seemed off. Came home and compared photos of the bird we choose to pictures of the bird on the last visit, and it was not the same bird. I returned the next day and showed them photos, and they admitted it wasn't the same bird. Was told the bird probably got mixed up with some other baby birds that were moved out of the store...but why try to purposely sell me on a bird that I never picked out? What happened to the bird I choose? What if I never had photos? What they did was Totally dishonest! I was able to get my refund of the deposit back without any issues. In reply to the owner's response: Was it not dishonest to add the same "markings" to bird that we did not choose to a different bird and tried to pass it off as the one I chose? It would've been honest if your employees had explained the mix up to begin with. I am not an unreasonable person, and most likely would have appreciated the honesty and picked out another bird. Also, regarding the refund policy - I am pretty sure i am able to rescind the contract on the grounds of fraud...your store's decision to return my deposit was not a favor. read more

Billy was very helpful in choosing our bird. We wanted a bird that would be very interactive, but couldn't afford one of the big parrots. I had never had any other bird besides parakeets, so he informed us on how to care for our new brown throated conure. He even called a week later to make sure everything was going well. Robert isn't pushy and is a great person to talk to. All the staff is great. Trisha was super helpful as well and the staff let me come in several times, about six to play with birds and see if I wanted to become a bird owner. They encouraged me to take my time. My daughter bought a canary for my 76 birthday on Saturday and it was dead before the next Saturday! Brendas refund/return policy is valid only if you take it to a vet within 48 hrs. Which is another expense and where do you get a vet on the weekend. There was none at my birthday dinner! I have had birds all my life and currently have diamond doves, parakeets, finches and canaries. Luckily I kept the new bird in a separate cage to acclimate. I am upset because my daughter is saving $$for her wedding next year and wasted over$200. On a sick bird ! I suggest you have a vet lined up before you buy a bird from Brendas!! read more

I was visiting my family from out of town recently. I was missing my own birds and stopped in to check out the store, what I found was quite alarming. These two Macaws (see picture below) are in a TINY enclosure with NO PERCHES, DIRTY WATER, and WALKING AROUND ON THEIR OWN FECES. In the back enclosure is an African Grey who is so young he isn't even fully feathered yet he is exposed to the other birds droppings etc! I am not one to comment on Yelp, but found this unsettling to stay silent. read more

This is not a quality place for birds at all. We purchased a baby lovebird here only because no where else had them at the time. They claim their birds are "hand raised", meanwhile the guy "hand feeding" the baby cockatiels was literally grabbing them, shoving a syringe in their mouth, and putting them back all in a matter of seconds. Not much TLC going on there. And the other guy that helped us was chasing around the lovebird we chose, trying desperately to grab him with his hands and then proceeded to put the terrified bird in my hands. It made me cringe. The bird was obviously scared. We also noticed that they had multiple lovebirds in small travel-sized cages all together. Any good bird owner would know this is not something you should do, as lovebirds can be aggressive towards each other in small spaces like that. In fact, there were 3 lovebirds in one of the cages that had tail feathers missing...definitely not normal. When I purchased my bird, I received no record of its hatching, how old it was, or anything. They did not place an ID band on the bird's foot as they commonly do with birds (my last lovebird already had an ID tag and paperwork when we bought it.) Another sketchy thing is that in the paperwork you do sign, it says you only get 2 DAYS to take your bird to a vet for a checkup. I called 3 VETS before I was able to get in an appointment that quickly. Each vet I spoke to said that it was poor practice to only give 48 hours like that. There's another reputable place locally that gives new owners 1 week. My bird thankfully had all test results come back negative, however the vet said his white blood cell count was way higher than usual...not normal. Another thing I noticed was the poor quality of the cages they were in. You can see in the picture below how unclean and barren it looked. My new bird had to stay in that tiny little cage for 24 hours with no toys or anything before I could go and get him (I was waiting on his big cage to arrive). Although they claim their birds are hand raised, my bird is absolutely terrified of my hands. We are going into week 3 now and are being very patient, doing everything on his terms without force, but it's just sad. There were beautiful baby lovies in the Keys that we wanted, and they were so incredibly friendly but too young to purchase at the time. Such a difference in confidence in them compared to our little Sherbert. He is indeed a happier bird now (see photo), but this feels more like a rescue than anything. I do love my bird, but if I could revert time, I would not have chosen this place. Definitely will not go back here. *i do not work for any other pet store. When you first walk in you are overwhelmed by the smell of this place. It's musky smelling & pretty dirty. The next thing you notice is the amount of parrots all stuffed in small enclosures, no perches, dirty water, & the parrots all had sunflower seed diets. A lot of the parrots are missing feathers & seem very unhappy. I'm not really sure how this place is still open. Anyone who actually loves these birds would never keep them in such small, dirty spaces, without toys, perching, clean water & a proper diet. I guess when your store is only concerned about money & not the poor creatures that you are supposed to be caring for, it doesn't matter. Sadly, this place shouldn't be allowed to sell animals. read more

This place is everything that is missing in a lot of businesses; it was clean, everyone was super knowledgeable and extremely friendly family run bird boutique. I could not be happier with my experience. This has everything you need with old fashioned actual customer service with very reasonable prices. This was a very pleasant experience deciding on a bird. The staff was extremely patient and very kind. I haven't had a bird in many years, but they were super helpful in helping me with my decision. I bought a parrotlet. They were helpful in what food, toys and treats that I needed. I have visited a couple of more times since and always feel welcomed back. They keep this store very clean! I went to Brendas birds the past two days to get 4 finches and 2 quail for my house. Brenda really knows her birds well and some of her birds are reasonably priced. She stocks everything for birds including food and breeding baskets. I found the birds I purchased from her to be in good shape.Some of the birds she has a are exotic and are interesting to watch. read more
