I functioned as a General Contractor for a church in Brooklyn for many years and prior to this experience I would probably share some of the same negative reactions people have to electricians largely in part to ignorance. Years later, and countless bad experiences with many contractors I now appreciate Breen more than I can express. When an electrician's rates are too good to be true, I have learned you should run!! That typically means you the customer will pay for it in the long run. Hiring a licensed, insured and experienced Electrical Contractor shouldnt break your bank, but it shouldnt be so cheap that it costs you practically nothing. You are paying for many things that they bring to the table, but most of all you are paying for the peace of mind that your house will be safe after the work is done. Breen Electrical is really the best in terms of affordability, excellence, and experience. They have been in business for over 30 years, have licensed electricians doing the work, have their own commercial trucks (most of the "cheap" electricians cant afford their own trucks) and on countless occasions saved us money and alerted us to code issues and other problem that the "cheaper" guys never mentioned. The other guys just wanted the work and to make money, but Breen time and again made it clear that he knew if he prioritized excellence and what was good for the customer, that we would keep coming back. I have referred Breen to many friends and companies and they have all thanked me. Do the research yourself..Breen Electrical has completed projects through NY, big jobs, landmark buildings and countless home contracting jobs. Maintaining a good name for over 30 years is impossible in NY, unless you actually deliver on your promises time and again. My advice would be to speak to Breen, speak to customers like me and hopefully you will realize that 30 years of excellence in NY holds more weight than reviews that dont see the big picture. read more

NEVER USE BREEN ELECTRICAL CONTRACTING! A CROOK FOR SURE.. This is what Breen did to me. I called him to install a new light fixture, explaining that I might need a plumber first because of a gas line connected to the old fixture. He said that his men could handle it. The night before the work I called again because I thought he was making a mistake and we would need a plumber. He came to my house AND SAW WITH HIS OWN EYES what the situation was and said no problem. The next morning 5 men show up, and in 3 minutes they are yelling that there is gas and they can't do the work. They also handed me a bill for their "services." Of course I refused to pay. I went ahead and had the gas line capped, then called his office to make an appointment to have Breen finish the job so I could pay him. He refused to do the work and still wanted to be paid. He took me to court, warning me that I would lose because he "had a friend at court" (meaning he had the judge in his pocket, I assume). He did, I lost. Cost me hundreds. In response to Breen's reply, below: Breen NEVER DID THE WORK HE WAS HIRED TO DO. The necessary plumber's work that he told me NOT to do, I eventually did. Then I called him three times inviting him to do the job so I could pay him, and he never responded. HE NEVER DID THE WORK AND YET DEMANDED PAYMENT. Not only is he a crook, but now all who are reading this can see that HE IS A LIAR also. read more

I owned a 3 family Townhouse in Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY 11215 for 28 years. My home was built in 1899. Breen Electrical Contractors were the Only Electrical Company I would let work on my building, they have been in the business and in the Park Slope area for many, many years, that speaks for itself. Mr. Breen submitted official estimates on letterhead, along with permits before commencement of the Jobs they did for me. In August of 2009 Breen Electrical Contractors replaced the entire electrical system in my 3 family town house, his staff did an impeccable job, in addition to cleaning and removing all rubbish. In July of 2011 I sold my property for over 1.3 Million in this economy so you tell me? Do you think he and his staff knew what they were doing? I say yes! Workers got constant visits from Mr. Breen himself to make sure they were on the job. As far as I am concerned I would recommend Breen Electrical company to my family, friends and anyone who needed excellent electrical services. DO NOT USE BREEN ELECTRIC! I have to agree with the other review that Kevin Breen is a crook. He is also angry, condescending and does shoddy work. He has created more stress in my life than anyone in the last 20 years of doing business. He sends his men to do the work and they don't communicate, do the cheapest version of whatever you've asked for, and when it doesn't work right, Kevin Breen doesn't care. In fact, he'll charge you more if he has to do any fixing, and take you to court if you don't agree to pay him for the extra time. He brags that he's 16-0 in small claims court. How can you trust a man who relishes suing his customers? He likes to threaten all kinds of legal action if he doesn't get the money he thinks he deserves, even if it hasn't been agreed upon beforehand. He is a bully and all he cares about is his payment- it doesn't matter if you are happy with the job, or if the job is done right. I had to hire another electrician to fix all the things that were done wrong. Really, save yourself a major ulcer and find another electrician. read more

As a former electrician who can no longer perform the work myself, I found Breen Electrical to exceed my "contractor" expectations. The problem: blinking lights. After multiple visits from Con Ed and another electrical firm doing some work at a neighbors house, both recommend that we replace the line from the street. We had the firm working at the neighbors house do the work. Unfortunately, the problem remained. I prefer to hire local people so I searched around the neighborhood and came across Breen Electrical and decided to give them a chance. Not only did they fix some of the work from the previous company, they spent a fair amount of time diagnosing the problem. End result we needed to replace the fuse box. Breen completed the job with care, thoroughness and utmost professionalism - all at a very reasonable rate. Kevin's personal attention to detail and willingness to "listen" to a former electrical guru proved to me that he's running a company that takes pride in their work. I recently used Breen Electrical on a job I was working on in Brooklyn. I needed some work done quickly and I had some pretty strict time and work restrictions that I had to pass on to them. We ran into some snags where most electricians would walk off the job but his team stayed and tried to access the situation for all possible solutions. Considering the time limitations and stress his team stayed calm and patient which left me calm and patient. I would gladly call them again and again and pass on their info to friends as well. We had a fantastic experience with Kevin Breen at Breen Electrics. We heard a weird sizzling sound coming from our fuse box. I told Kevin that I was about to have a baby in just a couple of weeks and he dropped everything to come to our place on a Saturday to take a look at the problem. He figured out right away what the problem was and was able to fix it. He did a great job, he was very professional, and most importantly he was totally honest and up front with us about what the problem was and how much it would cost to fix it. Kevin Breen came to my apartment when I needed a ceiling fixture installed. An easy enough job but when I took down the original fixture there were signs of what I thought could be fire damage so I was worried about doing it myself. I called Kevin who came the next day and not only assured me there there were no safety concerns, he did not charge me for his professional consultation. I ended up changing this fixture myself but I will certainly recommend Breen Electric and use them for my next bigger job. read more

When hurricane Sandy hit, Breen Electric was here immediately. My entire house had to be rewired. It was a huge job. The electricians were competent and completed the job in a timely manner.
