Breddos finally has a home! I first discovered them at Wilderness Festival, when late night fried buttermilk chicken tacos were exactly what I needed, and now they are all grown up with a brand new place in trendy Clerkenwell! Their restaurant is a little east of the main restaurant area around Farringdon and instead on Goswell Road near Barbican, which could use a little gentrification and redevelopment. It was packed when we arrived at 6:30 PM, just after they opened at 6 PM, and they don't take reservations so we were very lucky to grab the last seats available on the counter by the window. I imagine this place would only be good for groups of 2-4, as there are only a few booths and the rest is mostly counter or the large communal table in the middle. They were very nice and let us have the seats even though one member of our party was running late and did not arrive until nearly half an hour later. Service was also very quick in such a small place and the staff were extremely attentive. We were recommended to order 3 tacos or tostadas each, which we shared so I tried the short rib, the baja fish, the fried chicken, and the pollo asado tacos and the pulpo tostada. I didn't really like the crunchy, flat tostada and don't understand why it's twice the price of a taco, except for maybe that it's seafood. We also shared the rib eye from the grill section, which was 2x the size of a taco, and served on tacos, but also much more expensive so perhaps it's the best value to just stick to the taco section, all of which were excellent. We saw a few neighbouring tables with the queso fundido, which looked good, but we did not try it. We also had the ice cream and a fried milk custard for dessert. The ice cream was amazing, with caramel and fudge and basically everything you could want in an ice cream, while the custard was interesting but for me resembled the consistency of tofu. For drinks we had two bottles of the white wine on tap, which is very good value at £21 a bottle. I liked that they had a very simple wine selection with just one white one and two red ones, reasonably priced. The mezcal and tequila section was a page in itself, but we didn't venture there. Overall I think this is a great spot and I wish them much success! read more
