The game masters were really nice and welcoming. They were helpful when I called. I also like that all of their games are private with our group, not with strangers. The escape game itself was a lot of fun. We did the island escape. It had lots of twists and turns! We had a group of 4; 2 teens and two adults. The game was a good challenge, but was doable (frankly the kids were able to figure things out faster than the two adults!) Our game master was great and really helpful. The only reason I didn't give this a 5 star is because one of the clues was wrong. Without giving too much away- it's a color scheme thing, the clue is in the wrong order. Even when they gave us the clue and told us the right answer after we struggled, the code was in the wrong order. We mentioned it after we escaped, and she said it was a "tricky one" but I believe this one needs to be re-evaluated. It wasn't that it was tricky, it's that the numbers the code gives you and the numbers for the lock are in a different order. Thai added about 10 minutes I our time, so that was kind of frustrating. I'm happy to share details with management to improve this. Otherwise, awesome place, awesome people, and we'd definitely go back! read more

We did an escape room this week and had a mediocre experience. We escaped, but our gamemaster kept on pushing clues when we were not asking for them, which sort of took away from the experience, it felt like having the answer key pushed in our faces. We did need some of the help that was provided, but it would be really nice if we had been allowed to ask for the help instead of it being pushed on us without even giving us a chance to really think on some of the puzzles. Also, the static noise coming from the TV in the room is extremely distracting, especially since it was directly above some locations that required a lot more thought. The room we picked was fun, but a few of the puzzles were extremely confusing, with no indication of how to solve them except for asking for hints. read more

I hyped up escape rooms to my BF (who had never done one) soo much before arriving that when we showed up and walked into one small painted room with absolutely pitiful dollar tree decorations I was genuinely mortified!!! Plastic tokens, some coins, ping pong balls, plastic bananas... it was $136 for four of us and I can't say the value was there - at all. The staff was very friendly, but this is by far the worst escape room I've ever done. In my experience they are elaborate with different rooms, wild effects and sounds - sometimes you feel like you're on a literal universal studios ride and this was just.... NO NO NO. I felt SO bad for his experience I literally booked us a second game somewhere else in Nash because I 'needed' redemption. Unfortunately, as far as the game goes I would have to say the attention to detail was not quite there either. We were stopped mid game for figuring things out in the wrong order (or too early) which had us skipping a large chunk of the game. There is potential here! I have so many ideas myself on how the room could be miles cooler. But as of right now I cannot recommend! read more

A waste of time and money. We came with 7 people, which we've done at other places, but this place is best for small groups. Maybe 2-3 people tops. There is one puzzle to solve at a time for the most part, so if you have a bigger group, there isn't anything for the rest of the group to do. We are used to a more exciting, active escape game where you have multiple layers at all times and a lot happening at once. It's usually an adrenaline rush. We were yawning and sitting around without much to do while 1-2 people solved most things. The puzzles were lame and pretty easy to solve. We had seven in our group, from age 12 all the way up through 65, and all of us thoroughly enjoyed the escape room itself. We did the train room, which was very well-executed, quite immersive and fun. The puzzles were ingenious and involved just the right amount of difficulty to keep us all engaged. Overall, the room itself was even better than expected--5 stars! We can only give a two-star rating for the overall experience, however, because of our host, who was very creepy and made us all extremely uncomfortable. When we went out into the foyer afterwards, where there were other families/groups waiting, the looks on their faces made it clear that they were creeped out too and were hoping this wasn't their host. The (what we felt was) inappropriate behavior of our host pretty much ruined the day for most of us in the group and made us decide that we will not return unless we get to pick our host as well as the room. read more

A group came here on a rainy Saturday. I did not know what to expect, it was my first escape game. We were in the Island room. We had to work as a team to find clues before the volcano erupted on us or we were stuck forever on the island under ash. These were not easy puzzles so we really had to use our brains. Love Breakout Games. This is my 4th time visiting a Breakout Games location (first for Nashville). This was a last minute decision on New Year's Day and I am glad they had availability. This was a much more fun and interactive activity for a group of friends than a movie. Breakout Games is a moderately priced escape room (more than some, less than others). It's nice that they give a few dollars break the more people you add. We had 8 people and were able to do the Mystery Mansion with our party alone. My son is 7 and has been begging to do and escape room - this room had several things which he was able to help with and it definitely worked well for his age. I've done 3 other games at the Indianapolis north location. They have pretty sophisticated equipment and fun rooms. The staff at the Nashville location was great and Natasha was our most excellent mystery agent. They don't penalize you for asking questions which is nice and we didn't have to ask for too many hints. read more

I have always wanted to try an escape room, and I finally got the chance to while I was in Nashville! Myself and a few family members looked over the options and decided to go with the Casino storyline. Basically we just wanted to feel like James Bond in Casino Royale as much as possible. The employees at Breakout are really great. Our host was wonderful - really funny and personable. The game itself really was more challenging than we anticipated. We only got completely stuck about one or two times, but still felt like we were challenged overall. I will say that with this particular storyline, it will help if you have a general understanding of various casino games. The rules are written out for you if you're unfamiliar, but you'll waste precious time if you're trying to figure out how the games work. In addition, this particular escape room was fairly linear in terms of the order we needed to complete tasks. I think it may have been a little more difficult if there were a few more things happening at once. But all in all, this was a great game and we all loved it! We were so excited when we escaped! I highly recommend escape rooms in general, especially if you're together with family and looking for something to do other than just sit around and watch TV together. We had a blast doing this. We went after Thanksgiving and did the Volcano Island. My only "complaint" is that several of the locks didn't work even when we entered the correct code. After some time, they came over the speaker and told us we had that code correct and to jiggle them around and that the last group had the same issue. It took a little effort, but they eventually opened. Hopefully they've fixed that because this was super fun. While we probably still wouldn't have beat the timer, it was a little frustrating knowing we could have gone further if the equipment hadn't failed. read more

Awesome escape rooms - these are the real deal. Terrific customer service too! We played 5 of their 6 rooms on a Sunday during out Nashville Escape Room trip. We have now played over 300 rooms and these rooms are very good rooms with fun elegant puzzles. Of course I cannot say too much without providing a spoiler...Our top room was Do Not Disturb it had some features we have not seen before. The game progression of Do Not Disturb probably made it our favorite. The puzzles were varied and kept the focus of the room on the theme - there are some very fun electronic/technical interactions which are immersive - everything worked. Mystery Mansion also had a nicely designed set and offered a puzzle technique we had not seen before that was totally in keeping with the theme. Casino is also recommended for it immersive set and puzzles that fit right in with the theme of the room. Island Escape had some surprises but it probably has the simplest set with least amount of cool set design features (as compared to their others) - but there is one feature in the room that interacted with us in a surprising and fun way...and was built in to the puzzle scheme. The only room we played which we did not love was Runaway Train - the set is first rate but there are 2 puzzles which stood out amongst all the puzzles (60+) we encountered in the 5 rooms as not fun because of their design (one was a long busy work puzzle and one required a logic leap not clued)...also there was a slight mishap in the room set-up which resulted in us finding a key for a container already open. On a positive note - the final puzzle sequence was very fun and we ended our experience on a high from that. We played the five rooms over the course of a day (coming and going) and everyone we encountered was pleasant and helpful - out game masters Rachel, Emily, Ella and Hanna all were fantastic! We appreciate the private room booking policy - as all of these rooms are playable with 2 to 4. read more

We did the most difficult challenge and yes we did struggle to finish... we liked our "GameMaster" Johnny but were frustrated at one point when we called for a clue and he wasn't there! Haunted Schoolhouse review Having never been to another breakout game/escape experience I can't give it a five star rating as my comparison drawer is empty and I'd like to leave some room at the moment (but never fear, I will update if and when appropriate). I won a contest for me and five of my friends to do the midnight premiere of the Haunted Schoolhouse (inconveniently on a school night.) Being aged and decrepit (having jobs and being responsible,) most of my friends would not come however I managed to get a small group totalling four to the midnight event. We were briefed on the basics of this game - it's dark (not too dark,) the door will always open if you get scared or need to exit in real life, but you had to solve X in order to get the exit notification which would conveniently be at the door as well. Basically for being locked in you knew going in there was an exit, which considering they had handed out flashlights to us was reassuring. If you get stuck you can call out for a hint, or in our case if they see four people who haven't been up past 11:30 in ages shambling around like zombies they might prompt you or drop a clue. In a discussion we believe we would have worked our way back around to the solution on one of the hints they dropped had we been functioning at normal levels, One of the other hints they dropped may have been the difference between us getting out and being two minutes over. I think had it not been midnight we would have probably completed with a few minutes to spare. As it stands the record shows we finished with a second or two to spare. It was pretty darn fun and I was checking prices after we left to see if it was worth the amount we would have paid had I not won it. The answer was yes. I can't stress how much I'm itching to go and try a different one when I am not starting two hours past when I'm normally out. It was like a good book, or perhaps a frustrating book that you just want to be over. Whatever the case I want more. read more

We were certainly late to the game on trying the new escape game trend but oh well; we came, we saw, we played, and unfortunately we did NOT escape. This was a lot of fun (though more money then I wanted to pay, $25 per person) and definitely something different. We arrived with a party of 4 people and joined a group of 4 other people to do the museum heist. We're all smart, we like puzzles, boom-we got this, or so we thought. It created some (fun) anxiety because you're timed, you have a puzzle to figure out, and you have to work as a team with not only people you know but also strangers. I liked having the other group of people in the room because it helped get us out of our regular thinking box. There were 2 persons in our group, playing along with 6 people who knew each other in the casino game. As such, we were somewhat overpowered by their group, and the room was a wee bit too small for so many people. However, that was not the major problem, and could have been overlooked. The major problem and reason for the very low review score was that the game master never gave us any time to flail about without giving us unasked for clues. We ended up only using 1 of our 3 clues. Hints such as look around at this, have you thought about that, have you shone your flashlight on the table, check the third number, what else haven't you used in the room, this is your last task; meant that the group that was playing together were pretty much constantly busy doing something instead of stopping and taking inventory of what was going on around us. Part of the fun at my first time in one of these games was the panic that we were running out of time. That time we finished in 58 minutes with strictly 4 clues, meaning 1 penalty minute. The game room was larger, but the puzzles no more complex. This time, we finished in 35 minutes using 1 clue, meaning that we had 25 minutes left. Without letting us truly fail at a task, we never had to gel as a team and rely on each other to figure out the problems we had made. I would have preferred failure to a remedial step by step look here, look there approach to what should be a real life video game where failure is a definite possibility. read more

Breakout Nashville - Get locked in a room with 7 other people for an hour and try to solve some sort of puzzle while tearing through a room looking for clues. You must register for rooms online, and I would suggest planning ahead. If you don't want anyone else besides your group to play, you must buy the entire room. This is definitely a great, fun experience, but compared to The Escape Room, I was a little underwhelmed. The staff was a bit unprofessional, but definitely friendly. The puzzles were more complex than those in The Escape Room, which I really enjoyed. I highly suggest to go with a group. It is a great way to bond and fill an hour of time. read more
