    West side of bar...

So far The One! I've gone to some bars but this One takes the whole pizza! It's the best until today. This bar has a country atmosphere on the so-called new town in the heart of Goleta. This place is packed with 6 Pool tables, big plasma Tv's right by the barrel chair so you can enjoy your favorite game and of course with a big glass of your favorite beer. By the way, sorry to say and with all due respect to other fellow bars..... These are the best beer prices in town ($5.00 per glass) And whoever thinks otherwise please check it out and let me know what you think of "Break Time" By the way..... it's pet friendly, and unfortunately no under 21 allowed.

You know you are a dive bar when...

Several years ago I started a review of Break Time. For some reason I never finished it and Yelp has been asking me daily if I want to finish my review which has been saved as a draft. I guess I was at a loss for what to say. Yesterday I was back at BT once again to watch a favorite football team lose a big game. That aside it was a good time. The bartenders are the best and the crowd was great. Once I wrote a review of the Double Down Saloon in Las Vegas, certainly the best and most diviest dive bar I have ever experienced. While Break Time doesn't come close to the DD it certainly qualifies. I came up with my own definition of a dive bar and I will toss it into this review as well: 1) it is the place itself.  You cannot "create" a dive bar look, a bar has to regress into that look.  When asked to define a dive bar look it is a lot like defining pornography... hard to put it to words but "You know it when you see it"  Break Time looks like a dive bar! 2) It has to be off the beaten path and not glorify its "dive bar" roots.  In fact it almost has to be in denial that it even is a dive bar.   3) It has to be cheap.   It can't be charging $6.50 for a PBR or heaven forbid pull out a blender or buy a plant.  Not this place.    The drinks are honest and inexpensive. So if you want to grab a beer or a Vodka soda or even a Mai Tai go to Break Time, just don't complain because they don't put basil in your drink.

Great, dingy little bar. As a dive bar should be. Cool little location for locals to enjoy, or visitors passing through. Lots of game tables and plenty of seating. Stiff drinks, great beers on tap. Friendly casual service. A locals hang out for sure. But all are welcome. Make a stop and enjoy!

Good place for locals. Cheap drinks, and 5 pool tables. Good sized dive bar. Has dart board and shuffle board as well.

Oh boy the amount of times I have been inebriated here. Birthday parties, coming home celebrations,…read morecheeky post-work cocktails that accidentally turn into two in the mornings; New Years Eves, Potlucks, Aloha Sundays, Halloweens and everything in between. This is a great bar and there's just no way around that. The drinks are tough, the vibes are immaculate, the bartenders have teeth and the regulars are absolutely bananas. I love it here. It's probably the only bar you can roll into by yourself as a woman and feel comfortable. As if things couldn't get any better, there's a treasure of a human in there who spins vinyl on Friday nights (maybe Saturdays also, but don't quote me) and you really shouldn't miss that experience. Thank you Imperial and staff for your phenomenal service. You've truly cultivated something wonderful.

What an amazing hidden gem in Goleta!…read more While visiting the town, we were looking for a lounge walking distance from our hotel. We found this cool spot via yelp. A for atmosphere. You are transformed into a tiki/tropical/ vintage/bohemian not sure what to call it atmosphere. Super mellow and chill. We sat at a corner couch across from the bar. Comfy and relaxing, and dim lighting. Drink menu was diverse. Great selection. From cocktails to all types of alcohol. With an average price range of $15. Bartender knew his craft. All drinks ordered were great! C for service. The service dept needs some help, and I get it, with one person serving 15+ people. It is impossible to provide a5 star service. Initially service was great with a smile when we first arrived @ 6 pm. But soon after the bar became super busy. The wait was 20-30 minutes for an order. It was time to leave. We asked for our check and it came non-itemized. If it was 2 or 4 drinks that would be fine, but we were party of 3 with over 10 drinks. Then we had to wait again after asking for an itemized check. Waiter stated they need to hand write as their "machine" was not working. That took more time than needed. Ahhhhhh.... Ah well.. you can't get it all. Hence the 3.5 stars. I recommend, to sit at the bar and maybe pay cash to avoid hurdles I experienced.

We headed to the back to sit down before ordering drinks, just chatting and minding our business. A staff member came out to turn on the heaters, then immediately walked up to us and said he needed to check all of our IDs again. We let him know we had just been checked at the door, but he didn't respond at all--just completely ignored that and insisted. We handed over our IDs one by one, and the way he checked them was honestly uncomfortable. He was shining a black light super aggressively, flashing it in our faces even though we were literally just sitting there having a conversation. It felt unnecessary and almost like he was looking for a problem that wasn't there. What made it even worse was how careless he was with matching the IDs to the right people. He kept handing them back to the wrong person, even after staring at our photos. The most confusing part was when my female friend handed him her ID and, after checking it, he repeatedly tried to give it back to one of my male friends. That male friend pointed at her multiple times saying, "that's her ID," and the guy still tried to hand it back to him. If you're checking IDs that thoroughly, I'd expect you to at least be able to tell the difference between a man and a woman--especially when the photo is right there. Overall, the whole interaction felt intrusive, unnecessary, and honestly a bit disrespectful. Tons of locals recommended this place to us, so it was super disappointing to have an experience like this especially when celebrating a friend's birthday. I don't know the name of the staff member, nobody was wearing name tags. But he's an incredibly rude older man. Hi Dawn, it was the day I posted this review, December 8th maybe 9-10pm

Jennifer was our server on a holiday weekend and she catered to the local crowd and tourists alike as if each of us were her only table. She apologized for the wait but there was no need because we had a great experience. I can't believe we had not visited the Nugget until now because we love the quiet beach across the road. After our beach walk we were looking for some drinks and an early meal to keep the beautiful day going. We ordered the full rack of ribs and tri tip French dip to accompany hubby's cold beers and my tall pomegranate spritz. Both meals were so flavorful and the ribs were so tender they fell off the ribs. My tri tip with au jus was also well seasoned and prepared. For our sides, we had salads which were equally fresh & well dressed and hubby enjoyed the crispy and cheat-worthy onion rings. I definitely understand why the Nugget is a favorite local spot and a great stop-over along Hwy 101 between Ventura and Santa Barbara.
