Overall I thought the "Throwing Range" is pretty amusing for a visit, but otherwise the drinks here weren't special and tasted weak. The bar was smaller than expected, and upon arrival, we were confused on how we could get started. Another customer ended up telling us that we had fill out a waiver on an iPad, receive and show the confirmation email to a bartender, and get a wristband before we can order anything. It would've been nice to have a small sign with an explanation or something. Still a fun concept to try at least once. People are usually stressed to the gills, deprived of sunlight and depressed from having no major holidays to celebrate. I have come here twice with 2 different groups of friends. Both times, I've had a great experience as this is just such a unique bar experience! After you are done with your drinks, you can go to this room in the back (after putting on safety goggles), and have a throw at their smashing range. You can throw beer bottles but also just their regular cups as shown in my picture. I forgot what the drink I ordered this time was but it had peanut butter in the name and it truly tasted like peanut butter, which was really surprising since I knew they did not directly add any peanut butter into my drink. It was interesting to try for the experience but I wouldn't really recommend it. The previous time I came here, I had ordered a bunch of ciders because I love trying new beer and they were all really good. We sat at the bar this time and the service was amazing as the bartenders gave us recommendations on which drinks to order. There are also games in the back of the bar like basketball and the boxing arcade game, so it had really fun vibes. I have been going through a heart ache, head ache, every kind of ache that can we imagined..just in time to have the biggest head ache from tax season. I had all this pent up frustration that I didn't know what to do with. Boxing once a week was not cutting it and lifting more than my body weight was just exhausting my body. A girl friend was also going through a lot of stuff so we found this place. You get to book a session for about an hour and break things. My girl friend and I sort of went through the things to break within 15 minutes, but found out that we can just break the glasses of the drinks that we drank. My girl and I can drink. More so her than me... However, we each had three glasses to break at the end of our session and it just felt so good. I don't normally venture to the west side unless it's to hit some balls at Chelsea Pier, but maybe I will for this moment. Sometime during that, you scan on your iPhone a disclaimer agreement to waive any legal liability for potential injuries. There is a break room in the back where you subsequently go to throw your glasses. I thought that we could smash more than our drink glasses but perhaps I have this venue confused with a break room where you can really let all of your rage out. They have good craft beer, cheap snack foods, and arcade games here. This is a very laid back, chill LGBT friendly dive bar. My complaint is the bouncer who nearly interrogated my partner and I as soon as we arrived demanding to know if we had reservations and were part of a larger group party. You guys saved the night ! We decided to stop by the Break Bar after having two of the worst cocktails on the planet over at the bar at the Marriott Courtyard on 10th Avenue. They were watered down Kool-Aide drinks. Instead my wife and I walked down to 9th Avenue and I had a couple of cocktails at the Break Bar made by the bartender, Steven. Now these are some of the best cocktails period. We enjoyed the finger food, music and ambiance. Guests staying nearby at the Marriott don't even waste your money and time at the Kool-Aide bar at the Marriott. Definitely come here and enjoy your time. Thanks Steven ! For $$$, you spend 30 minutes in a Saw-like environment full of keyboards, drinking glasses, and printers. Max of 6 people allowed at once. The weapons in question are baseball bats, crow bars, and a sledgehammer. There is one rule: don't break the red buckets that contain the drinking glasses. The only thing I wish is that there were more things to break, like old-school Dell computers. I'd suggest Macbooks, but that might increase the price of the room. It was fun! You are provided a hard hat with a face shield, black disposable gloves, and construction gloves. There are construction boots and a clothing cover if you showed up in stilettos and a thottie ensemble. But like... don't do that. Read the room. I also came here with a friend as a plebeian without a Wreck Room reservation. For the price of your alcoholic beverages, you put your empty drinking glasses into a red bucket, and then go into a room separate from the Wreck Room. You get to toss your glasses at an empty wall and break them. If you finish a bottle of wine like I did, you get to throw that too :) For bar bites, I suggest the broccoli bites and the beef and cilantro empanadas. The broccoli bites contain a bite of broccoli in a tater tot that's mostly cheese and fried breadcrumbs. It's bar food. Just do it. read more

Great place for some late night drinks that aren't fancy or anything crazy. I can't comment on the food here tho it's too close to my pizza spot. The staff here and police and very considerate. The pricing for everything is very reasonable for Manhattan. The interior is clean and like many dive bars very loud. The best part is getting to smash your glasses in the back. Break Bar is aptly named for two reasons: they have a "throwing range" in the back where you can throw and break your empty drink glass against the wall, or, you can book a full session of breaking things in their "wrecking club." If you want to use the throwing range, there's a QR code in the front of the bar that has the waiver that must be filled out in order to receive your entrance wrist band. Full sessions for the wrecking club can be booked online. As for the drinks, they have a decent selection of cocktails and beer. The service was pretty friendly and welcoming. I don't believe they serve food but it looked like you are able to bring outside food in. Forget going to a spa to de-stress. Stopped by here as a little rest stop because my feet were starting to hurt from being a tourist. But grabbed a couple drinks and had a little talk with the bartender. We came at a weird time around 2:30ish so it was just at the bar. The bartender told us how you hold on to your glasses after you finish drinking because once you're done you take all the beer and shot glasses you drank to a little room in the back and break them! This was honestly the most coolest experience I've had at a bar. They provide you with cleaned google glasses to protect your eyes by the door. All you do is just go in and break em! Honestly this is a great spot to relieve anger, stress or just to have some fun with friends. All you really have to do is sign a safety waiver and start drinkning up! Irresponsible bartenders. They kept feeding my boyfriend shots when he was clearly past his limit and he got alcohol poisoning. He didn't even remember taking those shots so he was clearly past his point. After my second drink I asked for a third and they cut me off even though I was sober and I was clearly not the one who should've been cut off. I came here on a Monday night for happy hour. I arrived at 5:30 PM and the place was pretty much empty; there were maybe 5 other people. However, the place filled up pretty quickly, and by 8 PM there were a lot of people inside. Before you enter, you have to e-sign a waiver and show the confirmation email to the bartender to get a wristband. This can create a bit of a line at the front because the waiver requires you to fill out your name and email address and stuff, and there are only 2 tablets. I got 2 Stormy Temples, which were only $6 each for happy hour (normally $8). I will say, they were kind of weak in terms of alcohol content, so I guess you get what you pay for. My friends and I also split some bar bites. We got a margherita pizza and waffle fries. The pizza was tiny and only 3 of the slices had basil, so the other slices were basically just cheese pizza. Not worth $10 at all, especially considering you can walk down the block to 2 Bros and get a (much larger) slice of cheese pizza for $1. The fries portion was a lot better and it came with ketchup and cheese sauce. After my friends and I each finished 2 drinks, we took our glasses to the bar to get them emptied out (they still had ice inside). Then we went to the Throwing Range, which is at the back of the bar. Attached to the door is a container filled with cheap safety glasses, like the kind used in chemistry lab. There are targets on the walls to aim at, but nothing happens if you do/don't hit the targets so just aim wherever. I felt kind of sad smashing pretty good quality mason jars (they even had handles!) but also this was a fun and unique experience and a great way to relieve stress. Groupon led my group here on a Friday night after work. We bought a deal to smash four drinks. Upon arrival we notice it's really hot in the bar. The bar is a bit smaller than what you expect. For any future goers sign the waiver once you come in to make the process easier. Since it was a group of us and we all had the Groupon it comes with the happy hour menu as pictured, so we all got to taste the entire menu. Bree made our drinks and shout out to her for managing our party of 7 at the bar. I checked out the food menu and it wasn't really appealing. Really skimp for a bar. The music was alright just need a better mixture. Okay so for the smashing part: it went by so quick! We found out after that you can buy more to throw. There's also more that you can wreck but we didn't know that...wasn't really a point person to explain everything to us. My overall thoughts: Three stars. I think the concept to wreck stuff is really unique in itself. That's the highlight really. There needs to be a hostess to explain how things work. A coworker and I visited Break Bar yesterday (Wednesday) around 6pm after I had purchased a Groupon that was set to expire. (We work in the neighborhood and had stumbled on the place before coincidentally realizing there was a promotion for it.) Our bartender Steven was super friendly and inviting from the second that we stepped in, explaining the "process" to us and ensuring that we filled out the waiver so that we could be served drinks in glasses- to be thrown! He was attentive the entire night and continued to check in with us to make sure all was well. The promo provided us with 3 glasses each, and we also ended up trying the food (Margherita Pizza, Broccoli Bites, Chicken Bites) and getting and purchasing an additional drink/glass each to throw. I hurled 3 mason jars and a stemless wine glass. It's definitely a great pre-game spot to begin your night out and/or after work happy hour. We saw a good amount of tourists who were coming to partake. Steven also let us know about the (attached) Wrecking Club, which I had already done my 'Yelp research' on. Apparently it is so popular that there is currently a waitlist, so definitely book early for special occasions or just to wreck shit with your squad.
