Go for the vibe not for the food...break bar was a fun experience. Dark bar, drinks flowing, packed bar, light bites. Ordered some bar bites, bucket of glasses to throw, some mocktails and cocktails and got the party started. Idk if the glasses provided were clean or had multiple uses...(yikes) went into the break room and relieved the days pressure.

Halloween theme at Break Bar on Thursday night. Lots of specials and super crowded. Very loud. Great vibe! Order 1 round of drinks before heading to next bar. Fun night but I wanted some air. Great costumes seen!

Came here to celebrate my friends bday and she had a great time smashing bottles How it works is you can tech come in and whatever drink you finish you can break which is prob better but bc we pre booked it we had a table to sit down and hangout which is def recommended for large groups. But do take into consideration how many ppl in your group are actually drinkers bc you will need to finish your drink to break that bottle! You can also purchase a bucket of empty bottles to throw and have fun for $20 on top of your package as well S/o to GM Justin who was great to work with and super friendly!

Empty car bombs..yikes!!

Great staff. Strong drinks. I had a blast. And the bonus..you go to the back and throw your glasses at the wall.

10/10 experience! I came in with a tense friend at 6:30 on a Tuesday and was immediately approached by the GM, Justin. We ordered our drinks (beautifully made) and immediately went to town to throw our glasses. The service is beyond helpful and the drinks were perfect. Letting them go was a release we didn't know we needed. I will be back once a quarter at least!

SMASH! What a fun concept for a bar. The space itself is nice, feels mostly like a local sports bar with a bit of clubbiness (dim lighting, some music blaring). Pretty standard beers on tap, as well as cocktails and other drinks. Service was solid, there was one bartender staffing the entire place, and he did a great job. We were there during a sleepy Sunday afternoon, but our experience was great. And then the hook -- getting to smash glassware! You sign a waiver online, and then get a wristband that gives you access to a room dedicated to breaking glass. You can break the glasses from your finished drinks, or buy buckets of empty glassware solely for the purpose of smashing. Either way, it's so much fun once you get to the designated glass area. Well worth a visit for a standard bar outing with a fun bonus activity to take out some stress!

If you're near Time Square you have to visit Break Bar. Whether you want to watch Football or Dance the night away, the vibes and ambiance are amazing. The absolute best part is that you get to break the glassware you drink out of . You go into a back room and throw the glasses at a wall. Exhilarating and so much fun. You have to ask for Julien. He is attentive, fun and hard working. He made our experience wonderful. I'm definitely coming back next time in NY.

I like this bar. The whole point of this bar is to drink and smash the glass. Emotions are great. Service is very nice. I don't like the menu there at all. Food is not good. But I still come there time to time, just for glass smashing fun

Laid back bar with the novelty option to smash your glass post-drink. Be prepared to fill out and sign a waiver on your phone and show to the bartender prior to smashing your glass in the back room. You'll receive a bracelet and off you go! You're paying a premium for your drink for the privilege to smash your glass, but well worth it if you're in good company and looking for an experience. Goggles are provided in the smashing room and you'd have to be (excuse the pun), really smashing drunk to hurt yourself doing so. Elon Musk, Chris Brown and Trump are all fodder for glass smashing as a video screen displays various polarizing figures that bring out potential rage in your average fellow human. Wouldn't make it part of my daily rotation as it's a trek to the west side -- but bartenders are chill and it's near the Spiral building if you're looking for something different on a weekday post-work that doesn't involve buying a $50 ticket to go up to the Edge with the tourists.

This bar is just totally awesome. Not only are the bartenders very friendly but the idea of this bar is great. Basically, after you have your drink, you can go into the smashing room and throw your bottles, glasses or whatever. This is a wonderful way also to let out your aggression or if you had a bad day. I can't believe it took me this long to come here after living in the city all my life!

Worth it! If you need a low-key place to catch up with friends and blow off some steam, Break Bar is perfect. Not only can you smash the glass from each drink you drink, but you can also purchase a bucket (or three!) of empty beer bottles to smash. They also offer to put up a photo of whoever/whatever you want to throw your glass/bottles at! I was pleasantly surprised that it felt safe. You have to wear safety goggles and there's a special room in the back for the smashing. Go and have a great time!

Their drinks are so watered down. I guess it's for safety reasons. The vibes are fun, music is great, bartenders are nice too.

Ask the Community - Break Bar

Do you have to pay extra to break your pint glass?

No you do not have to pay on top of your already purchased drink

Is there any nonsmoking space? I'm allergic

You can't smoke inside NYC spaces. Was here last week and nobody was smoking nor did it smell like smoke

I'm interested in reserving for 2-6 people 30 minutes, so how many people can break things at once?

They only take reservations for parties of 10 or more people. You can break as many drinks/empty bottles you purchase

How far in advance should a session for 1-2 people be booked?

Hi - That would depend on the day and time you are looking for. You can see our live schedule at www.breakbarnyc.com/reservations.

Do all of the drinks come with a "breakable" glass or is it limited to certain beverages? Also, do you need to make a reservation?

Anything with alcohol in it comes with a breakable glass, bottle, etc. I have never made a reservation on the three times I've gone!

Can't complain. They have four booths in the back maybe it was three. I did notice one of the hanging lights was from an 80s pizza hut joint. Letting you know now the paper towels for your face at the table felt like jail toliet paper, very rough. The bar doesn't have bar stools with backs! You either need to get one or two tables by their mini kitchen, very hot there not recommended for preimenopause or menopausal women or one of the booths. This is a great bar they played 60s music a lot. Heard some weird al too! Very random and fun place to be. The bartender was nice as well as security! Try the burger! Worth the $9!!

The energy is right there, hovering, but it never actually lands. It's giving "almost iconic" but not quite--like a party that never fully starts. And that's what gets me. Because this bar could EASILY be that spot. The kind people plan their week around. Where are the themed nights? Where's the drama? The chaos? Give me a reason to come back on a random Wednesday. Do a city-event tie-in, a holiday takeover, literally anything that makes it feel alive instead of just... existing. Because right now it feels like a missed opportunity wearing a cute outfit. BUT--let's talk about the one thing they absolutely did not fumble: the view. The VIEW??? Insane. Genuinely stunning. The kind of view that makes you pause mid-sentence and remember you're in New York and not just spiraling in your own life choices. It's carrying the entire experience on its back, respectfully. So yeah. I'd come back... but mostly for the view and the potential. If they ever decide to actually do something with this space? It could be dangerous (in a good way). Until then, it's vibes... just not fully realized ones.

The view is gorgeous and sweeping. The service is attentive and professional. The drinks are sophisticated. I ended up here because I saw a video about their gin and tonic. Sounds simple, but it's one of my favorite drinks, and I'm always looking for someone who can do it well. I ordered their "dear G&T" and it was a fruity, complex riff on my old favorite. I also got the foreign forage, "a bourbon smash with a mint zing." It was also a delicious take on a classic. They have several types of cocktails, all broken down by spirit and flavor profile. They also offer a lot of spirits made in New York State. They have cocktails with earthy notes, fruity notes, fancy martinis, and a section boasting limited edition and special spirits, if you're "feeling fancy" and wanna cough up 35 bucks instead of 20 or 25! They have a bar snacks menu (sliders, nuts, and the like). I had their thick cut fries and they were light, seasoned, and tasty. I couldn't stop eating them. Midtown or not, I highly recommend this spot, which also has a couple other locations, including Gramercy.
