I have nostalgic feelings towards Braums so it's always a treat stopping by. I was told to stop by here by friends who said it was better than your casual fast food spot and I do agree that the quality is better (not necessarily healthier ). This particular location had a grocery store inside and it was large. I don't remember the menu being so large but there was a lot of items. And of course I had to grab some ice cream. Service was quick and everything tasted as expected. Its a nice treat away from the regular fast food chains you see so stop by when you're on the road. read more

My grandson and I were in the mood for some ice cream after an afternoon at the Springfield Zoo and found Braum's on Yelp. While their selection isn't huge it did the trick. Came in for ice cream tonight, and left as it was very disgusting... standing at the ice cream counter looking back at the prep area, everything was a shambles and dirty. All the shake mixers were dirty, toppings all over the counter melted ice cream pooled in many places on the counter and floor, dirty dipping cabinets, and staff that didn't seem too attentive.. it was the sheer grossly unkempt space that turned me away. If be too worried that the scoops being used were also dirty, or staff isn't washing their hands, as they obviously don't care about their environment. Ok so... I had a car FULL of kids (that were not mine) and since they'd been so good (for the 3 hours I had them) I had promised them some icecream. No, I'm not above bribery. Actually though, It wasn't bribery, I just announced on the way home they'd been good so we were going for ice cream. Anyway, they wanted Braums but I said that McDonalds would do cause it was less expensive and had a quick drive-through. Luckily for us, the McDonald's ice cream machine was down so we headed back to Braums. Wow,,, it was great ice cream at really reasonable prices. I expected it to be expensive like Cold Stone but it was only a lil over a dollar for a single scoop cone and the ice cream was much better than McDonalds!! I'd never been there before but from now on, it'll be my ice cream stop! I had Rocky Road and the kids had Strawberry and 2 Cookie Dough. I tasted all... all were good. Side note - the restaurant was very clean and if you wanted some convenience, you could just pick-up some milk, orange juice or other groceries on your way out. So we placed our orders: Mom got the Chili and I picked up the Chicken club combo. First off: The chili was amazing, the crinkle cut fries were perfection. The chicken club.. I'd ordered mine without Mayo, but the cashier didn't hear me.. so it came with mayo on it.. I asked about it, and they Immediately re-made it! I feel like Braum's has the best fast food breakfast items available. I have never encountered anything less than great service at Braum's. So, why only two stars? I don't think poorly of the food, building, or the people. No, I think poorly of their corporate policy to not allow tomatoes on a specialty burger. Not to be extreme, but I feel like tomatoes were hand picked by God himself to bless humanity and show us his love. Tomatoes are the one food that improves almost any dish. With Omelettes, get 'em diced. Sandwiches, gotta be sliced. Pizza? It could totally go either way. Basically, if I am eating anything, it deserves a tomato on top, mixed in, or even simply resting on the side patiently awaiting placement in my mouth. I can eat tomatoes of any shape and most conditions (I sometimes even slice around the growth of mold if one of those juicy red spheres have been left out too long) without ever getting tired of them. So, you can imagine my surprise when that answer to the question, "May I have tomatoes on that?" was "No." After a moment of surprise quickly replaced with mild frustration, I asked if I could upcharge to receive a few of those mouthwatering Better Boys (a common tomato variety) on my burger and the answer was still "no." I was willing to pay more money to get the burger the way I wanted it. With mild frustration quickly boiling into moderate, yet still kind of polite frustration, I asked why. The answer apparently has to do with their corporate policy of not substituting any ingredient in their specialty burgers. For some reason, the upper levels of Braum's have decided that their weird ass (although often time fantastically delicious) specialty burgers cannot bask in the presence of sliced red pulpy fruit (or vegetable, I'm not trying to make enemies here). Mind you, this is an establishment where you can get hot fudge on orange sherbet if you so desire. Hell, I could have probably ordered a hot fudge sundae made with sherbet carrying tomatoes instead of a cherry on top. (there may actually be an exception to the "tomatoes make everything better" code I live by) Always the pragmatist, I was finally able to get a few slices of tomato on the side. I promptly removed them from the styrofoam bowl while maintaining direct eye contact with the plastic gloved cook who brought them from the back and put each slice on the burger. I ate a good burger made great by the little red addition while contemplating the absurdity of the situation. Tomato obsession aside, I just find it completely insane that in a world of get what you want and do as you please, there is one company out there who refuses to allow any vegetable (or fruit, still not trying to make any enemies here) slices on their specialty burgers. read more

Worst experience at a Braun's ever. First. Wanted a Chicken Club. Was told that it would be 15 minutes for the bacon to cook. So, get the drilled chicken instead. One side of the chicken was so over cooked that you couldn't chew into it and the entire piece of chicken came off the bun. I took it to the manager and she looked at it like there was nothing wrong. Then she asked "what do you want me to do about it?" Sarcastically. At that point I told her, I guess nothing since you obviously don't seem to care. She say, ok, thanks, and walked away. I stopped by here for lunch when I was driving through Missouri. I had the banana split with cookies and cream ice cream. It was good but not fantastic. I think I had high expectations. The ice cream was topped with strawberry sauce, marshmallow sauce and chocolate sauce. I hated the almonds on it. They were so salty and were a bad combination with sweet ice cream. This Braum's seems worth reviewing to me because my visits have always been unusually good even for Braum's, Never have I encountered a rude employee, dirty dining room, or problem of any kind. The location is not one of Springfield's best, yet the friendly staff and management here keep this place in tip top condition whether you dine in or use the drive thru it is great. I most recently enjoyed a quick and inexpensive breakfast here and they had piping hot coffee ready at six (as they should...but so many fast food restaurants lack prep when it comes to breakfast hours), it was the ideal stop on a trip eastward from nearby Joplin. read more

I'm not a huge ice cream fan so I can't really comment on that part of it. As for the food, this is some of the best fast-food there is to be found around here. It's no more expensive than many other places and the quality is far above most other chain fast food joints. It might not be on par with some of the sit-down restaurant food but it's very good for fast food.
