We bought at least 4 cars from this dealership owner over the years (not counting family members we referred). Most importantly, don't get any service done here. They destroyed my car (bought new) but really wanted to fulfill everything the dealership/manufacturer was needed. They totally screwed up. I won't get into details, but the car was FINE. Then dead on the highway. It sucks when they know you are right, and they look you in the eye and tell you "we will cover half to fix it". They are horrible. Failure to plug back in the rear brakes is more than just a "mistake"..This vehicle was supposedly checked out and ready to be sold. I was told by a Hyundai dealer that because the rear brakes were not plugged back in, I was driving with NO REAR BRAKES. I do not understand how this could have happened if the vehicle had been thoroughly serviced prior to it being sold. read more

Was staying near Mount Snow for a ski trip when I started my car and couldn't get it into drive. I had AAA tow to Brattleboro Subaru and despite not having any appointments open, they were able to diagnose my car and have it back in driving shape the next day so I could get back home. The staff was extremely understanding and friendly, the service area waiting room was well-stocked with coffee and water, and I was charged an extremely reasonable rate. Don't waste your time here, I had already heard numerous bad things but they've been running ads non-stop about buying used cars for competitive prices so I brought in my C-Max Hybrid hoping to get at LEAST the KBB value of almost $7,000. Now, low balling is fine BUT the sales guy tried telling me some BS about how no one wants to buy a hybrid because "the batteries suck" and told me my car was throwing codes that would cost $500 for them to fix which I knew wasn't true so I checked myself after leaving and he was straight up lying, it reported nothing. Long story short they offered me $4,750 which is $2k under KBB. I took it to another local dealer and got $7,000 for it. Don't waste your time here, they're straight up scummy. Brattleboro Subaru...If by chance you buy a car here, a used car. They will give you a paper with your choice of monthly payments on it. When you pick the one you want and circle it "TAKE A PHOTO WITH YOUR PHONE". If you are told you can't,,LEAVE. Because sometimes the price might change from then until you sign for the car with finance. When you go into the corner office, make Mr Finance shows you AND reads aloud everything before signing. When it comes to your signature if you ask when you think a honest mistake was made. You will only be shown a copy of your signature not the original in pen ink. When you ask for the "original signed paper" you will be told they have more lawyers than you do. read more

STAY AWAY!! This dealership is extremely lucky that we don't currently have the time or money to sue them for FRAUD. My 70 year old mother in law purchased a Subaru Forester here 1 year and 4 months ago. The car is a 2016 and looked to be in decent shape so there was nothing that rang any bells. It was advertised as Certified Preowned. When asked if there was any prior damage we should know about, nothing was disclosed to us. To be fair, we should have asked to see a Carfax report (which was not included in any of the paperwork she was given), but we took their word that the car was in good condition, especially given the Certified Preowned Status. Now, unfortunately we are having to get rid of the car as she is no longer able to drive due to vision issues. During this process we have found that the car has major frame damage!! It was in 2 accidents prior to her purchasing and was purchased by this dealer at auction just 4 months before she got it. What kind of business takes advantage of elderly people like this?? Plus the salesperson was very unprofessional and my husband wanted to leave but I wanted to give him a chance. Traveled an hour to listen to a "Certified Pre-owned" Impreza with 16k miles on it. It idled like a train and just got louder and louder. There is something wrong with that car...and it only has 16K miles on it. My car with 121k miles sounded like a purring kitten compared to that car. Not only that, there was no mention of the $2k increase in price due to the new car shortage. I actually heard the car salesman whine about how is he going to eat once the new cars are all sold out. That was his justification for this. They should have told me about this $2k before I drove an entire hour to see their inventory. Dang Brat. Subaru. Do better. read more

I took my outback legacy in for a routine checkup where they rotate tires etc.. I told them my tire pressure light was on and that I had just filled that tire the day before. They charged me $20 to fix the tire. The next day the same tire was leaking again I took it to a local gas station that said my tires were very worn down and they did not see the repair from Subaru. they even pulled out the nail for me. The next week I took my car to get new tires at Town Fair tire in Rutland and they said my tires would not have passed inspection! How dare Brattleboro Subaru release the car to me knowing the tires were bad. I will never use them again. read more

The Salesman Ian Findley and CFO were great. I am happy with their service and the time they took to make things happen. My issue is with the owner, as he switched from the agreed upon USAA pricing that was set on the phone prior to my visit. He called in from home to tell them not to sell the car unless I covered the fees that USAA made them pay. When I wrote them back to praise Ian and the CFO but critique the owner and say that it took the dignity out of the process, they didn't reply...even after I wrote them back to have a follow up. That manager on site was great as well--so my issue seems to be solely with the owner. read more

I just want to say that after a bad experience a few years ago with a Service department elsewhere, l quit using dealerships for anything. I have a major problem when my WRX was under Warranty, and Brattleboro Subaru did a good job. But l suggest that people find a good local mechanic. They're out there, many certified as master technicians. You will literally save thousands, and avoid what is without doubt the worst part of going to a dealership: that Service rep coming out and sitting down next to you like an undertaker, informing you of the $1000.00 bill. As a consumer, it is empowering to shop around. You'll discover the same work can be done for $500.00. If you have deep pockets and money is no option, use a dealership. Service team is conceited and rude, which would be tolerable except they are incompetent. Took my vehicle in for an oil change. No other problems. Car was there over an hour, and when I got it back three warning lights were on. The team here is only interested in taking your money. They know that they have a monopoly on Subarus in this area and they overcharge consistently. As well, the scummy mechanics are always lingering and lurking around the customers. Do yourself a favor - stay away, because once you purchase from them, you are locked in and they will screw you. ***The response says it all. They claim a whole lot about an anonymous reviewer. The wife and I were planning on moving to Vermont so in 2017 we purchased a 2017 Subaru Crosstrek from Brattleboro Subaru and planned to do business locally. It had decent ratings and the price they wanted was tolerable. We have had some minor issues with the windows not going up or down when we wanted them to and the monitor screen going on and off. They took care of these under warranty. All of sudden now that the vehicle has just over 36,000 miles you cannot guarantee that you can shut the vehicle off and remove the key. I used their text/chat feature this morning. NO RESPONSE. I called a half hour after they opened and was forwarded to an answering machine. After waiting an hour with NO RESPONSE I called back. The male person that I spoke with said that I could not get an appointment for WEEKS. I could bring the car up to them and leave it and they would try to fit it in. This is my wife's daily car to commute to work with and we cannot be without it for WEEKS. I explained this to no avail. They said they had so much work as all of the other dealers were sending their overflow to them. What this says to me is Subaru is junk if there are that many in the area that need repairs or Brattleboro Subaru does not have enough Service People. Service in my mind is still the overriding factor where I chose to spend my money. It will not be Brattleboro Subaru. read more

I was looking online to trade in my 4 year old car for a new one. I did a lot of research. Brattleboro Subaru reached out to me as a result of an online contact. I told the salesperson what I wanted to offer and that i wanted our interactions to be simple and transparent. They were anything but. The price they came back with was significantly higher than similar prices online. After 13 back and forth emails I gave up, I went to another dealer and after a 15 minute phone call had an offer that was $500 below what Brattleboro Subaru had offered. They had the best price, were willing to negotiate many of the terms to my satisfaction and, most importantly, did not pull any of the typical tricks/scams that dealers like to use. Their desk help booked me an appointment quickly and efficiently. The repairs took all day, mostly thanks to their comprehensive investigating and identifying of associated parts that needed repair. The car salesman could not explain everything about my new car; the car was given to me with defects (volume on radio didn't work correctly; the cargo protector slider didn't work; and they didn't register my vehicle correctly, so 2 months after I got the car, I didn't have vehicle registration. I called the DMV on Dec 30 (Bratt Subaru said they couldn't get through) and once again on Dec. 31. DMV sent paperwork and letter back to Brattleboro Subaru on Nov. 26th because Subaru owed $76 dollars more. That is why I still don't have my registration. read more

Go in to this dealership with your eyes wide open. They will actively deceive you then look you in the face and claim it is the truth. My wife and I did a lot of talking to the salesmaen (they call themselves "counselors", which should give you a red flag right there). After finding a car online that was in their lot, we drove the two hours to buy it. When we got down there they lowballed our trade-in, then told us the car we had looked at was now $2000 more. They I'll talk you in circles. My wife asked The salesman some direct questions and all we got was BS again and again. I tried to talk to the manager after we got home and all he did was talk more BS. They had intentionally film flamed us in to going all the way down there, figuring we would buy the car anyways even though it wasn't the car we wanted, was more expensive, and they didn't give us the discounts promised on the phone. So, again, if you ABSOLUTELY must use this dealership go I. With your eyes wide open and watch your wallet. There are a lot better dealerships around then this one, stay away. read more

Last weekend, I drove four hours from Long Island to Brattleboro Subaru to pick up a certified pre-owned 2018 Crosstrek. Well worth the drive to find exactly what I wanted - this car was the color, trim level, and has the manual transmission I was looking for. The salesman Bruce was friendly and answered all of our questions and the finance manager was extremely informative and helped us selecting some additional warranty coverage. The car was exactly as advertised and we were very happy with the price. There was a minor issue, which was quickly resolved when the general manager reached out to me after the sale. They do take social distancing very seriously, which is obviously a big deal right now. Would have no problem recommending this dealer. read more

The Good - Rose? was very nice and helpful as my fiancé and I were there for several hours. Nizam Mushaba was also pleasant and helpful as we finalized our paperwork with him. The Bad - My fiancé and I bought a Mitsubishi Galant from this dealer. The dealer inspected our car and quoted us a price. Our trade in was on their lot as we had just mailed off for the car title and we were waiting for it. We had to wait a while for the title to come in and Jason Posternak used that as an opportunity to rip us off. We were quoted an initial price verbally and in writing, then Jason said that after the car was sitting there for a while (while we were both waiting for the title to come in) that the car had "deteriorated" and that he had to give us a lower price for the car then we were previously quoted. He dropped a couple hundred off the initial quote. It wasn't until we threatened to go to court because the car was on their lot, under their care and if it "deteriorated" while under their care then they were liable for it under law. Not only that but they created an initial verbal and written contract with us. I was even nice about it even though we received slightly less then the initial quote to have everyone avoid the hassle of going to court. I find it sickening how a multi-million dollar company would even attempt to screw over the little guy over $250! Jason is the epitome of a used car salesman!!! The dealership listed a 1980 MGB for sale. I submitted a bid via website and traded several e-mails with Marie Flack. Since this was an older car, I requested pictures of the engine and undercarriage (for rust). I am two hours away and hoped to get a deal done then go complete the purchase saving four hours round trip. Marie Flack refused to provide additional pics. Here's her e-mail: "I understand wanting more photos, however due to the high volume of online inquires, that's something delegated to our photographer only. The car is absolutely mint, and it is just as clean underneath as it is in visible areas. This is something you really need to see in person to appreciate!" I would have been satisfied with a few pics from a cell phone. Didn't think that was a big issue but apparently Marie did. Here is the transcript from the e-mails we traded: She started out nice but it went downhill from there: "Good morning and thank you for inquiring online for our MG! I saw your offer of $6,750.... We can't go that low, but we'll do better than $9,999. This car was originally priced at $11,990, and is being sold on consignment, so it's at the owners discretion what we can let it go for. Would you like to set up a time to come see it in person?" Me: "Even quick cell phone pics would be helpful. We're two hours away so the pics would save a trip. If everything looked good, I would try to work out a deal and then pick the MGB up." Her: " I'll be honest, my hesitation comes from your offer of $6,750 for this car as well as your lack of interest in coming to see it. We're far away distance-wise and deal-wise. If you're comfortable paying $9,999 for the car (plus our $396 documentation fee) and you're going to set an appointment with me for this weekend then I'd feel like we might be getting somewhere here. Hopefully you can understand that. We're here 8am-5pm tomorrow and 11am-3pm Sunday. Do either of those weekend days work for you?" My response: "They do not. I did tell you I was able to go up. A few pics didn't seem like a big deal to maybe get a deal moving forward. One trip up is more efficient. As an aside, I bought my '08 Toyota Sequoia via internet and phone negotiations for $35K(ish) with no issues and traveled to New Rochelle NY to pick it up. The $396 doc fee is not mentioned on the eBay listing so why would I even entertain buying for full price and doc fee? I will pass on this one." I placed two calls to their sales manager today but have yet to get a call back. Looked like a great car but due to their poor customer service, I would never buy from them nor recommend. This review is for Brattleboro Subaru. I bought a used car from Brattleboro Subaru and what I go was a lot of trouble. The car was not checked out properly, and when I went to the State immissions inspector I was given a long list of pretty serious issues, including broken parking brake, immissions issues, and a broken front axel. I called Brattleboro Subaru to ask them what they would do about this and they were condescending and rude, saying they would look at it but they already checked the car so they wouldnt do anything to fix any of the problems; that the State immissions inspector didnt know anything, that the check engine light was just on because the gas cap was on crooked, and that I bought the car, now it is my problem. In this economy, you had better be careful. Never go to these people, they will take your money and NOT stand behind their cars. read more

I recently purchased a used car from Brattleboro Subaru. While the salesperson was courteous and respectful, they got me in the end!! I was offerred money for trade of my car. When the paperwork was done, the trade in was $600 less than I had been quoted. I brought this to their attention and they denied it outright. At no time during this purchase was there any negotiating. I accepted the price, so they felt comfortable in their dishonesty. I did recive a call from the manager which I did not respond to due to the level of dishonesty I had already experienced from the salesperson who had initially written the number down. I would not recommend going here for inspections. I had a coupon for a discount on inspection and I took my Lincoln there. They failed the inspection because the automatic seat moved back and forth just a few inches and then clicked on the rails. So I had to pay $31 for the failed inspection. If I subsequently fixed it and they then inspected it I would only have to pay an additional $9. I questioned them extensively about the seat being a required part of the inspection and they would not budge. I left there and went to another inspection station and they said the seat movement had nothing to do with the inspection and they gladly inspected my car (as it is in good shape), which cost me an additional full price of an inspection. I would have saved $31 if I didn't go to the Subaru dealership to begin with, not to mention the time and hassle of it all. I will never go there again for an inspection. read more

Since 2011 my buddies and I have journeyed six times from New York City to Brattleboro Subaru, a four hour ride, to buy our Subarus. I followed my original salesman from another dealership who unfortunately is no longer with Subaru but we stuck with Brattleboro because of their professionalism and courtesy. On every occasion we were able to negotiate fair and firm prices over the phone with no upselling or arm twisting at time of delivery. The entire staff is always friendly and helpful starting with Luke the manager to our sales associate Ian, features that are hard to find in New York City dealerships. I haven't purchased a car from them, but based on my experiences with their service department (as both Stacy Subaru and now as Brattleboro Subaru) there is *no* way that I would. I have a Forester that I bought at a dealer in Massachusetts,a s they gave a much better deal. But I live up here and have used them for the warranty-covered repairs that I needed, oil changes, and a couple of inspection stickers in a pinch. Every. single. time. they come out to the waiting room with a look of concern about how something not covered by the warranty really ought to be done, and hinting that I'm driving a deathtrap if I don't get something that wasn't a problem fixed. They are at their worst when you go for an inspection sticker, especially if it's at the end of the month. A couple of years ago I went for a sticker, and they came out with looks of faux concern and said that they really couldn't pass my car because my brakes were so bad, and that I really needed to have the brakes done, and hey, they could do them right then if I wanted. I said that wasn't going to happen (no way I'm paying the insane dealer price, and there was no indication that the brakes needed to be done). They tried to scare and hard sell me some more and finally the service guy said, "Well, let me go talk to the mechanic and see if there's anything he can do." He then comes back with this bulls*#t piece of paper that they want me to sign saying essentially that I acknowledge they've told me my car is an unsafe deathtrap, but that I'm disregarding their advice and declining the repairs. They then give me the inspection sticker and send me on my way. I go immediately to my (awesome) regular mechanic who checks out my brakes, confirms there's at least another 5-7,000 miles left, and that the Subaru dealer was full of it. A couple of years later I get stuck needing an inspection sticker, and again, the dealer is the only one who can fit me in. They come out, tell me my car has failed because the two marker lights have blown out. They say they can replace the two marker lights for $80, including labor. This seems insane to me, so I double check the price ("$18?" "No, $80. They're really hard to get to, so it's actually a lot of labor.") I tell them to fail the car. I can come back with the repair made and pay $5 to get the actual sticker. I drive immediately to my (awesome) regular mechanic, who replaces the left light in under 90 seconds, and the right one in under 60 seconds, and charges me a whopping $2.65 for bulbs and installation. Yes. $80.00 vs. $2.65. The thing is, If the dealer had said $20 or even $25 I probably would have done it just to get it over with, but with such blatant thievery I not only would *never* go back to them for service, I would *never* buy a car from them, either. I don't understand how they think this sort of thing makes any sort of business sense. I mean, everyone expects repairs at a dealer to cost more than at an independent mechanic, but this is truly excessive and dishonest and, frankly, puts me off the brand somewhat. read more
