Once I filled out paperwork, I was immediately brought into the emergency area, where I met the nurses, and soon after that the P.A. on call that evening, all of whom were referred to on a first-name basis (who does that in a hospital emergency room?). Let me just say it was a bit surreal - but in the best way possible - that I immediately felt at home, and at ease, even though I was going through an episode. I still get choked up thinking about the amazing, caring experience I had there. When I left, I literally gave hugs to the two nurses and P.A. that tended to me (Molly, Chris and Josh - you all freakin' rock, man), and I felt like I had made friends for life in a little over 3 hours (and next time I'm up your way I'm gonna take you all out to dinner to show my gratitude!) After getting through all of this, it gives me hope that there are still good, kind, caring people out there in this world, and that healthcare *can* be a good experience when people love their jobs and where they work. Please keep on doing what you do at Grace Cottage Hospital, because in my opinion, you are absolutely second to none. Thank you again, from the bottom of my heart!

Tracy at the operators' desk wouldn't make me an appt and had that worst bedside manner. She wouldn't even let me talk to my former doctor's office! I asked to speak with her collègue instead as I found her extremely unprofessional. So unprofessional in fact-- she hung up on me! Rude! This hospital panders for handouts and donations from the community. We have donated to the Hospital Fair Day most years - I've been a patient for 38 years but suddenly I'm not a patient anymore-- guess I won't be donating anymore either ‍

I have improved, but I receive very little therapy, and the improvement was a result of my actions and attitude. Regal Care has problems with staff and administrative policies. Today, as I attempted to go and speak to someone about returning me to the short term rehabilitation floor, I was charges atr when I got on the elevator, and I was told that I couln't use the elevator by myself, even though I did that yeaterday and many times in the past. I was prepared for a physical altercation, but I backed off, while someone checked on whether I could use the elevator. They learned that I could, so I attempted to speak with the socia; worker, but she was not available, so I spoke with the other person who was there. While I was there, the agministrator stood by the door, and I explained that he had problems, and they were actionable. If you need a nursing home, then the place is better than some, but if you neeed a few months of rehabilitation, then you shoulld be careful, because they would want you to be a nursing home patient.

That fact that this disgusting place is still allowed to operate and take in patients while going over the states recommend covid patient limit of 45 is beyond me. If you think you will get better recovering here.. you will not! In fact, I have seen residents get sicker and weaker in just a short period of time while working here more than once because the facility didn't take cnas/nursing concerns seriously until it was to late. The beds are about 1 foot apart in a 4 bedroom room when the states recommend a 6 foot apart rule.... (you wonder why covid spread so quick in this unkept building) Believe it or not we were so short staffed once (just me to a whole unit) while the state inspector was there and I was forced to use a machine meant for 2 cnas operate this for leaving me to operate the machine while the inspector was outside the door(Talk about paying off inspectors) If you do not have money, you are looked at as garbage and called dirty names by the owner (just because she feels like it) She hires administrators so they'll be in training allowing the owner to run the building like she wants until their training is up where she gives them a different job instead of the actual administrator job they applied for.. (she/owner has no medical certifications and should not be making nursing decisions) Your work will never be appreciated, you'll never see a bonus, you'll barely get a break because they stay so short, they are always low on supplies, and ever year something infectious goes around the building leaving everyone sick and vulnerable, just remember if you work here you'll never be more than a replaceable slave!

I wasn't comfortable with the entire experience - including the always full mini waiting room in a spare exam room. No sooner would one patient go in, two more would appear. I left feeling bullied (by Rioux's assistant) and questioning their diagnosis. I got a second opinion from another eye doctor - no glaucoma and normal pressure. Rioux and her team seemed more interested in seeing how much money they could make off my insurance company and I and they had very little concern for my eyes. I'm so grateful I refused the unnecessary drops and surgery!! I would NEVER let Rioux near my eyes again.

Dr. Rioux has always graciously explained any of my detailed questions to my personal satisfaction. My Glaucoma has required a mixed strategy over these years and my condition is now well controlled. Her regular examinations not only monitor my Glaucoma, but also watch for my hereditary possibility of macular degeneration, as well as any sign of diabetes. Dr. Rioux also performs surgeries in Springfield and staffs a number of Connecticut Valley clinics, besides Greenfield. If she is just out to make money, she'd never have the time to spend any of it! The major part of her waking life seems to be dedicated to her patients. I am 65 now, and am headed for cataract surgery, with her. I have absolute faith in her ability and look forward to being able to see correctly, again.
