Once I filled out paperwork, I was immediately brought into the emergency area, where I met the nurses, and soon after that the P.A. on call that evening, all of whom were referred to on a first-name basis (who does that in a hospital emergency room?). Let me just say it was a bit surreal - but in the best way possible - that I immediately felt at home, and at ease, even though I was going through an episode. I still get choked up thinking about the amazing, caring experience I had there. When I left, I literally gave hugs to the two nurses and P.A. that tended to me (Molly, Chris and Josh - you all freakin' rock, man), and I felt like I had made friends for life in a little over 3 hours (and next time I'm up your way I'm gonna take you all out to dinner to show my gratitude!) After getting through all of this, it gives me hope that there are still good, kind, caring people out there in this world, and that healthcare *can* be a good experience when people love their jobs and where they work. Please keep on doing what you do at Grace Cottage Hospital, because in my opinion, you are absolutely second to none. Thank you again, from the bottom of my heart!

Tracy at the operators' desk wouldn't make me an appt and had that worst bedside manner. She wouldn't even let me talk to my former doctor's office! I asked to speak with her collègue instead as I found her extremely unprofessional. So unprofessional in fact-- she hung up on me! Rude! This hospital panders for handouts and donations from the community. We have donated to the Hospital Fair Day most years - I've been a patient for 38 years but suddenly I'm not a patient anymore-- guess I won't be donating anymore either ‍

Wonderful experience at Raynor Dental We recently had a…read moregreat experience at Raynor dental after my wife wound up needing an emergency extraction. Over the weekend and into early this week a tooth she was having trouble with became very painful. Our current dentist, could not do anything until mid December. I researched emergency dental care and found Raynor. Patty answered the phone and was so pleasant and helpful. Patty conferred with one of the dentists, Dr. Leora Hilbert, and they were able to get my wife in later that day. Amazing! We arrived in early afternoon and met Jill who kept me informed of what was happening while my wife went with one of the hygienists to prepare for the extraction. While not pleasant, the extraction went well and my wife was thrilled with Dr. Leora and her wonderful personality & easy going nature as well as the hygienists. All in all we are very impressed with Raynor so much so we are moving both our dental care to Raynor. Our thanks to everyone at Raynor who played a part in getting my wife's issue resolved so quickly and in such a friendly and compassionate manner!

When pregnant with our son, I decided to opt out of a planned hospital birth and instead to birth…read moreat Pacifica Family Maternity Center (in Berkeley, Calif.). This is where my wife and I met Kim. At the time, she was a student midwife, and was in the room during our son's birth and in charge of helping him once born. It was during the postpartum home visits and during the postpartum birth center visits that we really got to know one another. She was knowledgeable, supportive, understanding, and non-judgmental. For obvious reasons, it was really important to my wife and I to have care providers that were queer-friendly. Kim was nothing but amazing on this front. When my wife got pregnant with our daughter and opted for a hospital birth, we knew we wanted to work with a doula to help us navigate her pregnancy, the hospital, and postpartum care. Kim was the first person we called. Throughout my wife's pregnancy, she guided us to resources, helped us create a birth plan, and made sure we were well-informed about how a hospital birth would differ from a birth center birth. During labor at the hospital, she was the primary care provider (the nurses left us largely alone until it was time for my wife to start pushing), and then helped us navigate the various questions and decisions that come up during the birthing process, and our OB's assertions about what "should" occur. Having her help us navigate this latter part, in particular, was really important, and she did so professionally and unquestioningly with the best interests of both our daughter and my wife in mind. Her postpartum care, again, was of an incredibly high quality. We looked forward to her visits and used them as a time to ask questions about our newborn as well as a time to reflect on and process the birthing experience itself. She also helped us navigate our many feelings/struggles/joys of having a newborn and a toddler at home with both practical strategies and empathy. She made herself readily available via text message and phone for any questions that arose. We appreciated her sliding scale pricing for the opportunity it provides to more families to access midwifery services. Since the birth of our daughter (and before she moved to the East Coast), I had the good fortune to run into Kim at a local coffee shop on a couple of occasions. When we did see each other, she enthusiastically asked to see pictures of both kids and answered specific questions about the postpartum recovery process (she is incredibly knowledgeable about natural herbs and remedies as well as over-the-counter options). If it is not already evident, I cannot recommend Kim highly enough and will be eternally grateful for her care during the births of both of our children.
