Sunday night, trying to get back to Chicago at a reasonable hour, in need of food so we hit this exit thinking KFC? or Wendy's? KFC was not my choice, they were closed luckily. Across the street we see Brat Stop. Hmmm we all think. Could go for a brat. Looking in the windows outside, we're all thinking its a store of some kind that sells cheese and brats. They have sausages also. Inside its a cross, of a grocery store and a bi-level version of "hog's and honey's"(a Chicago Bar with mechanical bull) Think extended area bar with hi and low decks and an open second floor addition which looks down onto the main floor. On a more popular night, it must be a rowdy good time. Lots of neon signs, Wisconsin-esque signs and stuff, few oddities like a life size Elvis pez dispenser(also for sale). They've got plenty of arcade games, mainly card games, Golden tee, cruisin' u.s.a., etc. Its a bar with the offerings of a restaurant and attached grocery for cheeses, summer sausages and brats etc. If you wanted a bit of the grocery cheese they offer added onto your food they can do that for very small fee. Lots of beer choices whether its domestic or import and many different size options. I prefer a stein of Killian's. Though the glass is petite and not very manly looking. Beer pricing is fair. On some nights they offer live music and Guitar hero competitions. The thought of paying a cover of $10-15 bucks, really struck me. Have to remember while it is located at an exit and visitors of WI would think its more of a souvenir type of place, its not. This is a part of Kenosha's nightly fun. Still $15 dollars? Heck no. Not unless it was a seriously good band. Plenty of nightly specials for alcohol and food to keep you coming back. Their brats suck! I am talking about the ones they serve late night. I've had enough brats and hot dogs of the hot dog warmer to know the good from the SUCK. The brat I had was insipid and rubbery. One brat, no toppings with a .25 cent bag of Lays chips for $5, this was on the late night menu. Crap! At least offer me some onions or something! The brat looked and tasted like its been rolling all night on a hot dog warmer. No grill marks. How sucky! I could've gotten this crap at 7-11. They offer a smaller selection of the cheeses, summer sausages and assorted pickled items during the late night. Most items are pretty cheap, for instance a 8 oz, extra sharp cheddar block only costs about $5.50. (Update - Just tasted the cheese and its not Sharp at all or is it "extra", Kraft does a better job, what a let down) If you can get a chance, during normal business hours ask for a taste of the cheese! . I may come back just to see how it is on a live event night or weekend. For a lazy Sunday night, I was surprised to find quite a few attractive women. Women were 21-25, men were older 26-35. And a few older couples mixed in. read more

Overall, not a bad place. A bit confusing on where to enter or If the "cheese shop" is part of the whole experience? I figured it out, but was a bit confusing. Not a meat eater, so had the grilled cheese on rye with a house salad. Nothing stood out, decent, traditional grilled cheese. Nice volley ball court out back, decent size bar with nice TV's but weird angles. Sitting at the edge Of the bar, you will get a stuff neck watching games. Employees are key to GREAT ratings in my opinion. And having the bartender talk to another employee about the shits she had for the last 3 days wasn't appetizing. I was hesitant to order a salad, knowing she probably would make my salad, thus the 2 star. read more

I have to echo the other recent reviews about the appalling lack of COVID-19 protections. I've been coming to The Brat Stop since I was a kid, so I know what to expect as far as atmosphere and food. However, I was truly shocked at the lack of basic protections being undertaken by the staff here - absolutely none one them were wearing face coverings of any type. The McDonald's next door is taking better precautions. There were no obvious social distancing measure in place and I reiterate - NOT A SINGLE STAFF PERSON HAD ON A MASK. We felt completely unsafe and did not eat here. This is absolutely irresponsible of management given the number of people traveling interstate who stop at The Brat Stop. Their employees and customers deserve better protections. read more

My wife and I stopped for lunch. We were seated right away and our server arrived promptly asking us what we would like to drink. I ordered a pint of cider and she had an iced tea. We liked that the waiter asked if ahe wanted sweetened or unsweetened. Our drinks were delivered and we ordered our food. I had the garlic brat with a side of chili over it and American potato salad. My wife had the daily special, a chicken garlic parmesean brat with french fries. The meals also came with our choice of cabbage as well as potatoes. My garlic brat was excellent, I could really taste the garlic, and the American potato salad was definitely edible. The chili on the other hand left much to be desired. It was very tasteless like it had been made with no chili powder, cumin or any other spices one would put in chili. My wife's brat was average, edible but nothing stellar, the fries were excellent and the red cabbage was excellent. For the most part we enjoyed our meal and the excellent service. I also like that it's a package store so I can pick up some cheese, beer or other items to bring home. The price was good as well, good value for the money. I'm giving it 3 stars because I think the food was good, about average for pub or bar food. We will be back to try out their other brats. It also would be nice if The Brat Stop added chorizo and Italian sausage to the menu. read more

Been coming here from the South Side of Chicago since 2010, Great Brats! Cold beer, and great service. Nice spot to come for a road trip!

A very nice place with huge potential. Most of the staff are wonderful. The drinks and food are affordable and most of the people are nice. But, they also host bands. If you go there you need to know whether or not a band will be playing, even if you've been there a few hours. They will insist you pay their "cover fee" for the band even if you've spent hundreds already. I get the need for cover charges for bands, but I feel there should be some leeway especially for people that have been there awhile. Their policy has no leeway at all. read more

Wanted it to be great as the Brat Stop used to be so dependable. Went there for lunch on a Monday a few weeks ago and we had a wonderful server. The fried cheese curds were great but husband's brat was cold as was the bun. The sauerkraut served with my brat tasted very strange. Given that this place is known for its brats, we expected more. read more

Cheese curds are delicious! My brat was pretty good bun could've been better but was pretty good. They had a $5 cover charge but we weren't there for the band so was able to get in to buy beer and food to go. Thanks! read more

Consistently great food, we've been going there for many years. I don't think they could find a more rude hostess though. She's the one that greets people at the door! If you can get by her, you're good to go. Thank goodness the wait staff and food is excellent. read more

This is the real Wisconsin deal for great bratwursts, cheddarwursts, and Polish sausages. They have veal bratwurst as well! For sides, don't miss the red cabbage and German potato salads. The restaurant is cavernous with a large central bar area. They also feature a local Pilsner from New Glarus, Spotted Cow which is a standout. Best of all, if you like the food, there is an adjoining market and gift shop where you can buy brats, salads, and cheeses. read more

Brat Stop - Bratwurst, Karroffelnsalat u. Rotkohl - Bars Near Me - Kenosha, Wisconsin

I had the most hearty BLT sandwich at the Brat Stop. Even better than mom's. You will not be disappointed.

security is a joke. service is terrible. food is garbage. go across the street to Rivals.

This place just screamed WISCONSIN to me, so I felt 100% certain that they would have cheese curds and New Glarus and I was not disappointed. They obviously also have brats. I felt like the brats were definitely the thing to try here, given the name. And yeah, the Brat Stop was a pretty good place to stop for brats. Had a jalapeño cheddarwurst, which was excellent. It had that satisfying pop when you bite into it. Strong work on the fries that came out with it, but you can choose other types of potatoes as a side instead. The German Potato Salad is also quite good. Your server will bring diced onion and relish to top your brat with if you ask, and I personally endorse that idea. Why can't other places do cheese curds quite as well as Wisconsin? I don't totally understand this. Brat Stop gave me my last fix of real Wisconsin cheese curds before moving on in my travels, and they were very good. I hope I can come up with an excuse to come here again. read more

A great menu that has something for everyone. Gotta love a place that lets adults order grilled cheese-it was delicious! All of the brats we tried on the appetizer plate were great. Definitely a satisfying lunch stop on the way home from Wisconsin back to Chicago! read more

A classic part of my college education and beyond. I used to stop here for brats and beer with my college boyfriend on my way home to MKE. Years later, I brought my foreign born then-husband here for a little rock and roll culture, Wisconsin style. And some brats and cheese curds. Don't bother being healthy here, that's not the point. And rock out, CHEAP TRICK forever!!! read more

Its just so bad... For food. Guess the location keeps them busy. If you like a large sized dive bar with music and a few games to play, than Brat Stop is your place to go! (eat somewhere else beforhand, maybe one should only eat brats here and nothing else??) Fried chicken was rubbery, cheese soup was a fake white cheddar cheese looking thing & my ceasar salad was the worst I've ever had, all white romaine (where's the green in my salad!?) not even sure where that dressing was from, very non-original unauthentic ceasar tasting, oh and I think some ingredients were missing. Thought It'd be a quick and easy cheap stop, but the prices weren't even that reasonable on top of it all. read more

I love this place! The brats are on point and where the heck else can you get a brat omelette...I mean seriously!! The atmosphere is totally outdated but it kind of fits. read more

Brat Stop - Bloody for breakfast! - Bars Near Me - Kenosha, Wisconsin

I've been back to the Brat Stop at least two or three times since my last review and let me tell you the Friday night Walleye dinner with the potato salad is awesome as is the jumbo shrimp lunch. Service has been great each time and now it's a must stop for my family. And one time we caught a really great band. A friend asked me recently, "Oh, the Brat Stop in Kenosha? Is that place nice?" And I answered, "No it's not really nice. It desperately needs a remodel, the bathrooms are a little icky and the 70's style succo walls are hopelessly outdated. But if they updated it, they would probably ruin it." It's that kind of a place. read more

I actually stumbled across this place leaving Wisconsin and had no idea about it. I was told to try Brats or Polishes while in Wisconsin so why not stop in. glad I did. I think this place is amazing. my rating is based on an overall experience. the service was amazing at the bar. the bartender asked and called me by name, every time. she was on it. wish I could remember her name to throw it out there, but I could tell she was there for quite some time, or the head bartender. excellent customer service. the atmosphere was great. the place is huge. there was a stage which they may have live bands play or shows. nothing was happening when I went, but that's ok. I'm sure it's a great bar during sporting events. they have TVs. they have a store connected to this place as well. they sell food, beer, and gifts for vacationers. I actually picked up some shot glasses. the spotted cow is sold there so make sure to try a bottle. the food was great. I had the cheddar brat and traditional brat, American potato salad, and Cole slaw (it was good but I should have got the kraut for my brats...don't know what I was thinking). either way the slaw was great and I used it to top my brats anyways. they serve onions and relish on the side in containers along with mustard (ketchup is there but eh. who uses ketchup on a brat anyways?!). the menu had a lot of items so there is a lot to try. I highly recommend this place if you've never been or are on vacation or are traveling through the state. read more

Well we expected outstanding fat bursting with flavor brats and Not So Much skin was tough like day old Out the fridge and rewarded brats after a party at the lake I have a hangover brat Why? You are suppose to be famous for BRATS So it's a cheese meat gift shop on one side and a honkytonk venue bar eatery on the other. A great place for locals to drink beer and eat cheese fries. After belting back a 6 pack of Old Style or Leinnes you don't notice how dingy the place is and your palette is drunk on beer So move along to the Ruben while the bread was toasted and barely grilled meat was rubbery no caraway seed in the kraut and German Potato salad was quite oily There is an interesting article on the wall regarding the teardrop clock SO GET out the fry pan boil those brats with the beer and grill 'em yourself read more

Located right over the Wisconsin border off 94 this is MUST STOP for lunch or beers. Excellent old school Wisco bar/restaurant with a stage for a band and a HUGE bar. We stopped for lunch around 12:30 and the food was exceptional. We sat at the bar with Odie the bartender, always had a fresh drink, and had awesome brats. Also, the cheese fries were so good (due to the cheese) that I wanted to stay forever. Excellent!! soda large 1.60 iced tea 1.75 bratwust 5.35 cajun brat 5.45 cheddar fries 3.75 read more

Tons of options...but I highly recommend getting a brat of some sort, being that is what they're known for after all! My personal favorite is the cheddar-wurst. It's a must-visit each time I come home & we have a trip from Ohare airport back up to Wisconsin...considering it's quite difficult to find a good brat in Cali!!! (Though, on a side-note...The Red Lion in Silverlake is fabulous) But this place has all the food offerings & that homey Wisconsin-feeling that I miss dearly. read more

The decor and the atmosphere left much to be desired. That or I am just expecting too much. Either way I have to admit the quality of the food off sets the whole thing. Those brats were great. Granted, they oversold the whole Garlic Brat thing. Nicely flavored, but a bit mild to my taste. What do I know, I enjoy myself at the Gilroy Garlic Festival. Still, the food was excellent. I did like the store attached to the place. If I wasn't on the road the way I was I would have loaded up on the brats they had for sale. read more

What can I say that hasn't been already? I kept driving past this place and never stopped in until one day Bobby Nelson's was closed and I needed to pick up some goodies on my way home. I hit the Brat Stop's grocery section, and was hooked. They have so many fresh, declicious choices from cheese curds, to spreads, to brats and sausages to condiments and drinks. Eventually I made it to the restaurant and the place is HUGE inside, it's really suprising! The food was GREAT. Good, old fashioned no frills brats and even lots of other options like quesadillas, burgers and other bar-type food. Also a great selection of beers, both bottled and on tap. Definitely stop in if you get a chance! Only complaint is apparently smoking is still allowed inside near the bar which we were eating at, which can put a damper on enjoying your food. It wasn't bad when we were there, but there is definitely some possibility of it getting nasty in there. The place is big enough you could easily pick a table a good 100 feet away from the bar, we just didn't think of it. Food is cheap, I only gave it 2 $$ because it's hard not to get beer which might push you a LITTLE over $10 a head for 1 beer and a brat platter with potato salad. read more

I know this place is called the Brat Stop but I ordered the broasted chicken instead. I have excellent cholesterol. I have to keep it that way. :-) Anyhow, service was excellent. Brat Stop - Brat Stop Menu - Bars Near Me - Kenosha, Wisconsin

We don't really go here. It's in Kenosha, way out past the I, and I'm from the northside of Racine, near the lake. Too far away to go there for drinks, and the food is okay, but not enough to draw me back. But if it's band night, this place rules. What a great stage! It's really one of the best in the area, with pro-lighting and sound. It's a great venue for mid-level up-and-comers and old fogeys still stumping the grind. They do a big ol local music festival every year, but I've never played it, so I can't really speak of it. I know they do like 4 or 5 stages, cuz this place is like the Tardis, and rooms just open up into more rooms, back behind the scenes. I've been in the VIP for a few shows, and this place really rolls out the red carpet for rockstars. Cheap Trick and BTO all the way!!!! read more

Must stop destination!!! Visiting family in Milwaukee I asked where should I stop to get Wisconsin beer to take back to Illinois, the entire room blurted out "Brat Stop!!!" Stopping there would add 30 mins to my to my 2 hour drive home but I decided it must be worth it. I pull up, looks kinds dark inside from the parking lot and only the bar/ restaurant was open. I awkwardly walked in just hoping I could still buy a 6 Pk of Moon Man to take home. I was soooo relieved being greeted immediately by the bar tender Trish & Liz. She instantly made me feel welcomed and let me go shopping with her for beer. Trish was EXTREMELY knowledgeable and described each type of beer ect she had to offer. A 6 pk turned into a variety case of different beers I couldn't resit wanting after learning about others I had no clue about. She then asked me if I wanted to order cheese curds, (how did she know I wanted them! Lol ) I told her I just ate and wish I was hungry because I secretly want them. Trish then took me back shopping and told me of all the cheese curds they had to offer!! SOLD!! Trish even put my curds in a bag with an ice bag in it which I thought was above exceptional service considering I only mentioned once I was driving back to Illinois. Literally the only reason i will come back to Brat Stop is because Trish & Liz work there read more

Trish & Steve did a great job at the bar. Good atmosphere and will definitely be back next time we are in Kenosha.

If you have 2 hours to eat come here. First, got sat and didn't see anyone for 20 minutes. Told the host desk and we finally got drinks. As a server, I understand being swamped but we saw our waitress two times in the matter of an hour and a half. Didn't get refills, took 20 minutes to get the bill after she finally came back to us... That's not ok... Food was, at the most, OK... the whole section was talking about it not being worth the hype it gets & we're served cold brats... read more
