I've been coming here for a very long time, ever since I was a little girl. I recently started using a wheelchair as my primary mode for transportation, and they are not the best for accessibility. The bathroom specifically was awful. I could not get close to the toilet for the transfer, I could only face the toilet with my foot plate hitting. In that case, the stall door could not close behind me. Luckily my moms are strong enough to lift me and bring me over. There would be no way a power wheelchaor could use it. They also said the one in the cheese shop would be better to use... it was actually worse. Not a great set up and barely meet ADA requirements. read more

This place has decent food and felt more like a tourist trap. Everyone at the table ordered a different brat to try. The buns were really stale and had no flavor to it. Halfway through people were taking the meat out of the buns to eat. The quality of each brat was inconsistent. I had the jalapeno cheddar which was cooked right but tasted salty. One person's brat was really dry. Other's were cooked well and tasted fine. The fries that came with the meal were really good. Nice and crispy texture with soft inside. There is an arcade with pinball and darts. A nice place to hang out while waiting for your food. There is also a shop where you can buy cheese and Wisconsin beer. Service was a little a slow but overall the meal was average. Would I come back? Probably not, there are better places to get brats in Wisconsin. read more

Classic spot on the back or going to Wisconsin! Serving all the favorites including bratwursts, polish sausage, cheese curds and great wings too. Shoutout to our waiter Mychael (sp?) who was happy to be serving us with a smile and definitely sells the best of the Brat stop. Thanks my man! Being around for 50+ years now, Brat stop is a landmark in Wisconsin and Kenosha. I've been coming here my whole life and plan to continue to go back. read more

Not busy for a Friday night and for good reason. Tired food, music and staff. It's like something sucked the soul out of this restaurant. Reminds me of some of the bars I drank at because they accepted fake ids in the 80's. read more

Last cheese stop before the state line! Okay, I don't eat here, I'm not interested in it. When I was a kid and Wisconsin had it's nonsense law of 21 for liquor with 18 optional for beer and wine, we had a different name for this place that I won't use here - and I don't think it's upgraded since then. (Kenosha County was one that opted for Class B liquor licenses, for beer and wine only, suitable for 18-21 year old drinkers.) Some of my friends went here, we opted for a pizza joint closer to town, thank you. Fast forward about 100 years to modren tymes and the Brat Stop is the last stop before heading off into the land of tolls and Flatlanders. It's where we go to load up the cooler with international award winning cheese (Sartori) and squeaky cheese curds to smuggle off to the relatives down south. And milk. You can't believe how expensive milk is a way down south in Dixie. It's a great place for clever t-shirts, coffee mugs, refrigerator magnets, cheese, brats, overpriced Badger state beers and other stuff you forgot to pick up when you were at Wally World. Restaurant? There's plenty of other places on Highway 50. read more

Worst brats I've ever had. They made me sick. I would strongly recommend you not eat there - McDonalds is 5 star gourmet compared to this.

Horrible experience this time around. Will not return. Last year for the Packers vs Bears games, my husband, children, and I (Packers fans who live in Milwaukee) met my dad and siblings from Chicago (Bears fans) at the Brat Stop. Last year, we were able to make reservations, which was ideal given that we were a large group coming from a distance. My husband called to make a reservation for this past Saturday for the Packers vs Bears game. We were given a reservation. However, the day before the game, he was called and told that our reservation was cancelled and that they "don't do reservations on game days" but assured us they would be able to seat us as walk-ins. Well, my husband, children and I arrived there on Sunday and while there were many open tables for groups of our size, we were told we could not be seated until our entire party arrived. Again, my family was coming from Chicago, including my sister with her toddler and baby. They were really rude. They refused to seat us. I texted my sister and tell her to forget about coming since they were not being accommodating to our situation, as we were told if they arrived later they would be seated elsewhere. We were brought to the worst table in the building, where no person at our table had a clear view of the screens. Anyway, my sister was already on her way and we didn't really have any other options because we don't live in town, so when they showed up we just kind of all squeezed in. The waitress was either inexperienced or just plain rude or both, but had quite the attitude with us and never came to offer refills of drinks, refill our water pitcher, or even take away dirty appetizer plates. We had to ask multiple times and she just seemed annoyed that we asked for anything at all. The food was mediocre at best. It would have been ideal if the woman who called to cancel our reservation would have informed us that our whole party would need to be present because if we had known, we would have taken our business elsewhere. Really disappointing because we had a good experience last year and my family had been really looking forward to meeting up at the Brat Stop for games again. The Brat Stop will never receive our business again after this experience. I just can't believe how rude the hostess in the Matthews jersey was. Unbelievable. I don't know why anyone would want to spend their money there. The website describes itself as "a family place." That is the opposite of what we experienced!!! read more

I'm a veteran trying to sleep in a hotel nearly a half mile away from the Brat Stop at 9:33 at night but I can't because the Brat Stop has loud "music" there tonight.... They have no regard for the well being or rights of others, let alone military veterans. read more

Hungry or not, this is a must stop when passing through Kenosha, WI. The place is always jammed packed, especially during game day weekends. There is plenty of parking which fills up, however there are plenty more spaces behind the outdoor volleyball court. One half of this place is the market. This is where you can browse through an array of endless meats and cheeses as well as get your local Spotted Cow brews only sold in Wisconsin. The restaurant makes up the other half of this place and has both an upstairs and downstairs. My mate and I opted to sit upstairs. There was no wait when we arrived as it was earlier in the day. The upstairs doesn't have the full selection of brews downstairs has, but everything is equally as delicious. Love coming to Wisconsin for the the hospitality you receive everywhere you go. Our waitress was sweet, service prompt, overall a great experience. I ordered a jalapeño brat, cheese curds, and my mate opted for a traditional. Food was done and served in 10min. While there, they had a live sports radio show which was pretty neat. The experience was neat getting to see all the Bears and Packers fans. I definitely recommend this place if passing through the area, so delicious! read more

Brats are the best in the area and the vibe inside is awesome. Very friendly wait staff, food comes out quickly and it's hot

My family and I used to come here every week when I was a kid, I have a LOT of fond memories here. Yesterday was my first time back in about 15 years, and I was sad to see that the place needed a little TLC. I'm going to be lenient with my review because I know the potential of the Brat Stop. I've seen it at its best. I have a feeling that the downturn from covid is the culprit of most of the cons to our meal yesterday. I'll start with the positives: - cheese curds: YES PLEASE. They were delicious as always. - Cheese fries: I literally dream about the cheese fries here. I've traveled the country and lived in 5 different states. These are hands down the best cheese fries you will EVER eat. I promise. They were exactly as I remembered them. If there is anything you take away from this review- it's get the cheese fries. Heck, get several orders. You will not regret it! - fried chicken: Get out of here. Soooo good. Cons: - I ordered what I knew was always the best, and was not disappointed. My family on the other hand ordered brats and meatloaf. I didn't try their food, but they were slightly underwhelmed. I was disappointed because this was the first time we had all been back in a super long time. It was the end of the holiday weekend though, so that probably played into it. - cleanliness: listen. The brat stop is a dive bar/diner type atmosphere. That's what it's always been, and I didn't go in expecting anything else. I love it for what it is. That said, our table was sticky, there was a big puddle of water from a cooler leaking in the gift shop, and the place smelled like stale beer. Not what I had hoped for, and I hope management sees this because I know that with a little elbow grease this place could come back to its full glory. Again, it was the end of a holiday weekend and they seemed short staffed. They might just being doing the best they can with limited resources, just like the rest of the service industry. - service: not bad, but mediocre. I'm not going to down knock them much though because we all know there is an insane staffing shortage, and it's slim pickings out there. Our waitress was fun, but they stuck us in a table in the back and I think she forgot about us quite a bit. Takeaways: go get an order of cheese fries immediately. Cheese curds are always a win. Try the chicken, you'll thank me. Take it easy on the staff, they're doing the best they can, and soak this up as an iconic stop that we need to support and bring back to its full glory. read more

Absolutely a must ! My husband and I were staying in Kenosha on business and we love visiting new places! Good thing we didn't base our decision to give it a shot on the overall 3.5 star reviews! We had a 5 star experience!! We were greeted and seated almost immediately by the bartender who noticed that hostess was seating another guest. Our server Jahita .."Probably spelled that incorrectly " Sorry sweetie!! Well, She was amazing!!!! The food was fantastic.! I ordered the German potato salad with my Cheddar Brat. So good! There is a cheese & gift shop attached and they have some great items ! I would recommend you give this gem a try! read more

Had the best lunch here while passing through Kenosha. The brats and the shop make it worth the stop!

I had lunch at the Brat Stop today after not having been here in a long while. The service I received from my server was very good and she had a great recommendation for a Cajun brat for lunch. This place is sensory overload with the number of screens, adults and kids (and tourist buses). It is a sanctuary of Wisconsin kitsch. I enjoyed my brat, as well as my sides of potato salad and red cabbage. Their gift store and deli is great with lots of selections of cheese, meat and beer - staples of Wisconsin life. I picked up some venison summer sausage on my way out the door. read more

As a Wisconsin native that often makes the trek from Southern Indiana to visit family and this is a new addition to the approved stop list/worth repeating. This place is classic Wisconsin. Super friendly, lots of chips cheese brats beer, and carpet on the wall next to the booth we were seated at. It is huge! Two bars, a video game area, plenty of seating, a stage that I imagine is rockin and cheese/sausage store. The hubs was happy with a variety New Glarus and seasonal offerings. Over 40 options. We started with a cheese curds appetizer. Heaven. Came with ranch and marinara. I ordered a chedderwurst with german potato salad and red cabbage and he went for the garlic bratwurst. They have American potato salad and German. The German is exactly what I had been craving. Warm and vinegar sauce was delish. The bread for the brat rolls was fantastic and fresh. We also loved the German mustard. Only complaint was our sweet waitress was wearing a Minnesota hoodie ;) read more

We entered the lion's den- well, the Packer's den- and lived to tell about it. I gotta say, as a Bears fan walking into what is predominantly a Green Bay Packers bar, it's quite a rush! Lol I think it really got my adrenaline flowing, which was a shock to know I actually have some. Lol The Brat Stop had been on our list for years. We finally went on a Sunday, a meeting place to pick up our smoked Thanksgiving turkey, and walked into a dark and dank wood-paneled walled bar, amidst a sea of elevated green and gold, being seated at the lowest table in the joint. Clearly, we were being sent a message! Haha No, we were greeted and treated warmly and even noted both Bears and Packers are represented. The brats brought us in, and the brats are what will bring us back! My goodness, they were all delicious!! between my husband, myself and my out-of-town family, we sampled a large variety including cheddar jalapeño, garlic, polish, Cajun and Wisconsin cheddar. I think my faves were the garlic and the Cajun, but there wasn't one I didn't like. Next time we go, we will pick up a variety of fresh brats from their attached store for a third to half the cost of the restaurant. And then we'll fail miserably at cooking them just as beautifully, but we will try nonetheless! If you are in the area, it's definitely worth a stop. It's a pretty large place with a stage for their concerts, and our server was great. And the bartender made a nice margarita. It's worth it for the brats, and it's worth it for the obligatory cheesehead hat pic you know you wanna take...and yes, I most definitely did. ;) read more

I came here before shopping at the outlet mall in Pleasant Prairie. We ordered the fried cheese curds for an appetizer which were fantastic. They come with both a marinara and ranch sauce. I also really wanted to try the cheese soup. This was just okay... not really what I expected. I was hoping for a thicker beer cheese soup like they have at Moosejaw in Wisconsin Dells. For my meal, I had the Jalapeno Cheddar Brat with cole slaw and potato salad. The brat had great flavor, but I felt like the bread was a bit overwhelming. The potato salad was good, but a little too creamy. I actually added some onion to it. The cole slaw was good, also very creamy. The place is not the cleanest and the wait staff is pretty slow and inattentive. I also felt like the Brat Stop was a bit overpriced. That is why I am docking the Brat Stop a star. I also felt that the connected shop was a little grundgy... it just seemed very out of place! read more

Stopped here on the way back to Chicago on Sunday after Thanksgiving. The Italian beef is amazing. Our bartender Kristina made us feel like we were home. I've never been to Wisconsin before, so when I ventured across the border for a wedding one of the things on my list of to-do's was to get some cheese (which I'm sure is the exact same as the Wisconsin cheese that's sold here in Illinois). We stopped here because it was close to the hwy. I liked this place. Large selection of cheese, meats, beer. Had tons of little knick knacks, and the staff was very friendly. Did not try the restaurant, but it seemed busy. (And smelled good). The prices seemed reasonable, you could get everything from a buffalo flavored cheese to a 19 year aged cheddar. I was all excited to open the cheese curds that I bought on the way home, and when we tried them, they weren't squeeky like normal cheese curds, but rather just tasted like chunks of cheese :( Disappointing. read more

Brat Stop - Food is awesome!!! Egg with brat patty and tots. Don't forget about the curds. - Bars Near Me - Kenosha, Wisconsin

Cheese and brats are a Wisconsin specialty....at least the folk here would like you to think so. Having started with just a bar and 8 stools in 1961, the Brat Stop is a "must do" if you ever find yourself at the border of Wisconsin and Illinois. This isn't your typical road side stop......slightly dysfunctional, it wants to be a bar.........no....a restaurant........no...a music venue........no....a cheese shop.......no....a beer store........whichever one wins out, everyone is a winner. We had decided to have lunch and seated in a booth we took in the 1970's Vegas style decor with stucco so thick on the roof it looked like it was going to reach down and touch my head at some point. The walls beside the booth were covered in a dull grey carpet which I have yet to understand in my life why folks put carpet on walls? We ordered brats and beer which were reasonable priced. The place was packed for lunch and tons of folks at the bar....at lunch....during the week? Hmmm...... The menu is somewhat extensive for such a joint, but what stood out was the map on the very front of it....? We were there, why would we need to see it on a map? The indicated bands that had played there and though at least 10 were big time..........in the early 1980s????? After that, nothing....guess Brat Stop lost the title of hip joint with the music world? Service was nice and after our meal we headed over to the cheese and meat store..........there we were able to look at all the cheeses and meats. Cheese Curds were everywhere and claimed to be "sweaky" cheese? Not sure what that means..........meats were even more entertaining as I looked closely (photos added here) at the Old Style and PBR bottle shaped sausages!!!!!! Very cool. I mean where can you find beer bottle shaped meats in Chicago?!?!?!?! read more

Five stars for delicious brats, good beer and because when I walked in, every TV had the packers game on. We were passing through and met some friends here. Fun bar and great food. We well be back for sure!

The restaurant side gets 6 stars without a doubt. The brats, the sides, the service all were awesome. Couldn't have been better. Then off we go to the store. The service? What service? We couldn't even find someone to help us. We wanted cheese and beer and brats to bring home. After waiting 15 minutes we left and went to a competitor about 3 miles away that will remain unnamed. We spent $260 on multitude of items. For this they get zero stars. Average them out and that's how I get the three stars. I will without a doubt return to the restaurant but unless they can get some better and additional help I will be spending my shopping dollars elsewhere. read more

Definitely worth the trip. read more

I am updating my review. I sat in the restaurant this time and had really good service. The brat was cooked perfectly. The American potato salad is yummy. I do really like this place. It is old and dated but feels like a WI bar. I was just annoyed last time I was here sitting at the bar. Old review: This place is iconic. It does not really matter what I write. Walked in on a Sunday night and could hear loud blasting music from the car. The music I kid you not was probably louder than the volume at a united center concert! After waiting in line for 5 minutes, the "greeter" asked, "are you sure you want to eat here since the volume is so high?" She didn't apologize or care. Brat stop in the summer has the support for good service but after Labor Day forget it. Obviously by observation they were way understaffed. (People leaving? Etc.) we waited too long for our order of just drinks? They have great food but it bums me out when the consistency wanes. I ordered a simple Greek salad with chicken and falafel.(see pictures of falafel) after I was DONE with the salad we finally told the server after 20 mins of waiting that the salad did not have the falafel. She brought me the falafel and I could NOT believe it. One of the falafel had a BITE OUT OF IT. My guess is the staff is irritated with management or just all around tired after a long summer. I am disappointed at a place that I WANT to succeed. It could of been a one off but buyer beware. read more
