This is definitely a dining fixture in downtown Walla Walla. And all the times I've been in town, I've never come through until last night. I sat at the bar as is was pretty wide open on a Wednesday night. I noted they had Gramercy Cellars Pinot Noir on the menu and, generally, I'm not a huge fan on Pinot's, but Gramercy Cellars just does it right. I wasn't too hungry so I opted for the 1/2 dozen oysters (lovely Kumamotos) and the market fish special (Petrole Sole). First the oysters were fresh, and briny. I did enjoy it a spritz of lemon and the mignonette. But the real star of the night was that Petrole Sole swimming in that brown butter sauce! It was divine!!! I *almost* licked my plate clean, but I composed myself... I did end the night with the Mousse au Chocolat, it was just a bit too sweet for me, however chantilly creme helped tone the mousse down). I don't know what took me so long to visit Brasserie Four, but I'm glad I did and I will be back on my next visit to Walla Walla! read more

Doing simple things extremely well is an art and this place truly masters it. Every time you search for places to eat in Walla Walla, this restaurant always pops up, so I made a reservation for our first evening in the city. We arrived promptly, and even though I'd originally requested indoor seating, the weather was so nice that I asked to sit outside instead and the staff were happy to accommodate. We were attended to quickly and our drink orders were taken right away. Since we were in Walla Walla, I started with a glass of red wine, while my husband, who isn't a big wine drinker, ordered a white Negroni. It turned out to be so good,he even ordered another. I had the bouillabaisse, and my husband ordered the chicken. We also shared the baguette served with rhubarb butter, which was fantastic. The bouillabaisse was probably the best I've ever had: so simple, so delicious, and packed with umami. My husband loved his entrée too, and needless to say, we both left extremely impressed. I have been coming to the Brasserie Four since it opened and have always enjoyed it as a staple of Walla Walla cuisine so I do not say it lightly when I say that this restaurant made for perhaps the worst dining experience of my adult life. Truly the fall off should be studied because I cannot imagine how a restaurant could be this bad without it being by design or the entire establishment being on something. I went with a group of friends and we ordered a slew of things off the menu. The first dish - a charcuterie board - was perfect fine but uninspired. Turns out it would be the only edible thing of the evening. We ordered all of the salads and each one was repulsive and inedible for its own special reason, starting with the "special" heirloom tomato salad which was served whole with little chunks cut out of it (as if they had removed a rotten part here or there). It was served in a repulsive brown sauce. The other salads were equally disgusting (seemingly designed for the palette of a low-budget retirement community) but not insulting on the same level as this true disaster of a dish. My friend ordered a vegetable dish for her dinner and it was unsightly - looking like boiled frozen vegetables. She took a few bites before deeming it disgusting. The worst dish of the night though belonged to the steak frites which were served in what felt like a marshmallow sauce. It was cloyingly sweet and utterly revolting. I raised the issue to our server who seemed offended by my input, claiming that the "sauce is made with sherry" as if that explained why it tasted like marshmallows. My wife got a butternut soup that tasted exactly the same - more Pumpkin Spice Latte than, you know, a savory soup. She had maybe two bites. We raised the issue of the sweetness of all the foods with the wait staff who seemed increasingly offended by our not liking the food. It was truly bizarre and incredibly uncomfortable. Despite our sending back most of the food uneaten, the bill arrived in its entirety, nearly $400 for food that a prisoner would turn his nose up at. Due to the horrible food and service, I opted to leave no tip (something I have never done in my life). In a truly shocking move, that was later changed to a 20% tip. Pretty sure this is actually fraud/theft... After trying to reach the restaurant for days via email, I called in and communicated with the GM Xander, who was also rude and dismissive. When I told him we'd be coming there for 20 years, he scoffed and claimed that they were only open since 2007, as if that totally negated all of my concerns. I told him I would prefer to just settle this without resorting to writing negative reviews online and contacting my credit card company about the clearly fraudulent charges he said that I "didn't want to threatened him". So in addition to terrible food and offensive service, you can also add aggressive, belligerent management to the list. I wanted to give Brasserie Four the benefit of the doubt and allow them to resolve the myriad issues of the night but they have proven that this is just common practice there and disdain for their guests and their experience is just baked into what they have to offer these days. No matter what you do, do not patronage this sad, pathetic shell of what used to be a good place to eat. read more

What a Great Meal! We walked in a bit early for our reservation but not to worry they were ready for us, and sat us quickly. Everything on the menu sounded good so we had a hard time deciding what to eat... which means we had no idea what we wanted to drink. (Other than water since we had already been drinking wine all day. ha!) We ended up doing wine by the glass so we could select according to what we were eating. Our server had great recommendations, and I thoroughly enjoyed the sparkling wine that she suggested. So much so... I had 2 glasses of it! We started with the Foie Gras. As you'd expect it was like 'Buttah'....Rich, creamy and smooth. Really was not very gamey tasting like others I've come to appreciate. The spiced fruit spread that accompanied it was lovely and balanced the richness of the foie gras. We had starter salads.... my mother and I opted to share the Verte salad which had fresh crisp greens, fruit, goat cheese and pecans. The vinaigrette was perfect with just the right amount of acid to get your mouth juices going. I had the Duck Cassoulet. I think this is my favorite dish in the whole world. I rarely get to enjoy it so when I see it on the menu... I order it. It took me back to the one I enjoyed in Paris almost 10 years ago now. Rich... and comforting. Everything about it was perfection. The duck was fork tender, the beans were soft yet firm and had absorbed all the rich goodness of the sauce... Truly the best comfort dish! YUMMMMMM! Two others at our table had the Fish Special... which was Rockfish. I believe it was in a Beurre Blanc sauce because it was rich and buttery. They also ordered a side of the Pommes Frites because we had been told that they were the best. We were wise to listen to that advice as the fries were indeed Fantastic! The husband got the Beef Bourgogne. His dish was very savory and another one of those "good on a cold night, comfort" dishes. His beef was like my duck... fork tender and flavorful.. melting in your mouth. I wish we had more time in Walla Walla to have had time to go back to Brasserie Four again. Alas, we will have to make another special trip to Walla Walla now that we know this Fabulous French restaurant awaits. read more

Great French style food! Definitely definitely do not miss the French imported cheese plate. This was absolutely outstanding. The baguettes were delicious as well. I absolutely loved the oysters and I would not have thought to have gotten them, because I knew they had to be flown in. They worked very hard to get fresh oysters and deserve credit for that. The French onion soup was nice, but not my favorite on the planet. My husband loved the cold visysouis (sp?) soup and he would get that again. :) Kudos to the chefs! Come here for the food. One of our favorite places to dine in Walla Walla. Food is always good. First time sitting outside and it is great. To be asked abruptly to leave when you ordered a might cap drink is unthinkable. We were told somebody was waiting for our table. I had just used the restroom and there were many options inside. We've never been treated so disrespectful anywhere before. If I had reviewed Brasserie in May (last time I went) it would have been 5 star. Tonight was disappointing and something was off. Service was great but food was off. We had a long wait between our excellent starters (Tomatoe salad and fresh vegetables). Entrees were roughly 20 min later after finishing starters. Food is good. However, the Beef bourguignon you don't get much of for your $30+. And, if you're lucky you get 3 pieces of beef! Overpriced. The Ceasars salad was yummy. I'm from Europe and this is some of the closest you can get to quality French food in the PNW. It's pricey but not really for US standards. Compared to France, where you get this type of quality food in any random bistro, yes it's pricey, but given its 10,000 miles on a different continent it gets 5 stars from me. Absolutely delightful and authentic French Bistro, right on Main Street in the heart of Walla Walla's shopping and wine tasting area. The escargot appetizer was spot on, and served with exactly the right French bread for sopping up the garlic butter. Croque Monsieur was perfectly grilled and not swimming in Bechamel sauce. Just right. Salade Nicoise is really authentic, with a big hunk fo traditionally ahrd cooked tuna, lots of olives, and mixed greens. Wonderful lemony, garlicky dressing. Moules Frites were smallish, tender, and plentiful mussels in a savory broth. The accompanying fries were thin, hand cut, and perfectly crisped. Pro tip: Instead of the mayo/ aoli that comes with the fries, as for some of the dressing that comes with the Salade Nicoise. Wow! Great selection of wines that you can browse on the shelves in the back. Lots of French choices, of course, and plenty of local ones, too. Service was friendly and fast. Loved this place. Great French food doesn't work hard to be excellent- it just is. Brassiere does best when it doesn't try to work so hard to be French. With a bit of extra focus, Brassiere 4 can be 5 stars. Today it was four. The Brut Rose to start was perfect- strawberry mixed with mineral flavors, crisp and dry and magnificent to start on a hot summer night. The cheese plate was inspired - five well selected cheeses that each provided a unique flavor. The soup was described as a carrot cumin purée. It was more cream of carrot or carrot bisque- no cumin to taste of and no texture as a purée to taste of. But it was tasty. The salad was also delightful- carrots, beets, and fennel. It could've used micro greens to even out the mound of carrots, but it worked fine. Onto the entrees - my chicken dish was the best kind of French comfort food. A well cooked breast and a white wine stock with carrots, rice, foraged morels, and a perfect companion for the Grammercy Vigonier. Like a French chicken pot pie sans crust. Yummy. Missus had the scallops, and like the soup, the dish didn't quite match the description. It was heavy cream and heavy essence of mushroom with only 3-4 expertly cooked scallops. An odd pairing and too few scallops and too much mushroom cream. I would dial back the cream, let the mushrooms do their work naturally, and let the scallops be the star of their own dish. Maybe even put onto a bed of wild rice. Prices were on par with expectations, and service was perfect - just enough service to be helpful while not intrusive. Enjoy the basic French dishes, the atmosphere and the wine and cheese and ask lots of questions about the entrees so you get what you expect. read more

Wow this place was so goooooood. Everything that we ordered we liked. No bad choices. My personal favorites were the Caesar salad and the rillettes porc et canard. I'm doing the keto diet so I even ate the rillettes on lettuce and not baguette and I loved it!!!! The table shared a bottle of the sparkling rose. I'd definitely recommend it. If management is attempting the ambience of a riot in a steel mill, they nailed it. The food was good, but the prices are exorbitant and the portions tiny. We came to this restaurant off of the recommendation of our host, and also from Yelp. It's a lovely restaurant; very French and Parisian looking. It definitely gave European vibes. I ordered the steak and fries and my husband ordered the chicken and fries. You can check out the photos. I asked for my steak to be medium rare and half was i was well done so that means half of the steak with very chewy and very hard to eat and then other half was cooked perfectly. My husband's chicken and fries was luscious. It was such a treat to eat. Now the salads - the Trois, is a beautiful looking salad especially if you like beets. I'm not a fan of beets, but my husband loved him and so what makes its trois, beets, carrots and the fennel and it has a champagne vinaigrette that was really tasty. Although I'm not a fan of beets, but when you eat them all together in one bite, it was pretty tasty. And the Caesar salad, the dressing actually was made from fresh anchovy, so that was a treat. You definitely need a reservation, unfortunately we tried to get one before our date with no luck. Staff laughed when we asked about getting in and said we could sit outside. I explained that I was worried about weather and staff said they would put us under umbrella's and we would be fine. We ordered only to have the wind take out all the umbrellas. The manager came out and said they would hold the dinner order but we had to pay for the appetizer despite the weather. I'm sure the food is good but we were disappointed in the service, especially the manager's attitude. Escargot had no salt The French onion soup in a French restaurant should have been great but sadly this wash flavorless brown water. The only bright spot was the salad. That was excellent. Two folks had the steak frites. Which were good. Not great but good and reasonable serving portion. I had the special the beef bourguignon. At over $32? I got 3 small bite size pieces of beef. Probably less than 2.5 oz of beef. Two 1 inch carrots. 1 small potato. With a thins flavorless gravy. Again no salt. No flavor. This had been our go to restaurant for every walla walla visit but sadly this time was a truly terrible experience. After spending over $250 I should not have to get a burger on the way home.
