I understand that zoos are controversial. From my perspective, they educate the public about habitat conservation and help protect species from extinction. (Several examples of near-extinct animals live at Brandywine.) This zoo is tiny -- less than five acres -- but worthwhile to visit, with animals I'd never before heard of. I noticed that the pudu, the world's smallest deer, was limping. A sign indicated he was under veterinary care. The only exhibit that disturbed me was the caracal's. The animal continuously paced back and forth, perhaps a sign of boredom and frustration of being caged. (I have memories of Brooklyn's Prospect Park Zoo in the 1960s where majestic tigers and lions were confined in small enclosures exhibiting the same behavior.) Zoos have evolved since my childhood and I'm happy to find merits in each that I've recently visited. The Brandywine has special events of interest to families, and borders the Brandywine Park.

$7 a person. Parking is free across the street. It was on the Sunday we went at least. Small zoo, can see everything in 30 min. The animals they have there are cute, monkey, lemur, porcupine, ant eater. Red pandas. About 4 exhibits weren't operational which was a bummer. I saw they do random events, I think a beer one in May. All in all it was a nice little stroll and we liked to look at the animals. Animals seemed very well taken care of. But don't expect to be awed. Will be fun for kids.

simply ignored us. After weeks of waiting and looking forward to this experience, it turned out to be frustrating and extremely disappointing. I am a neurodivergent person, and situations like this affect me deeply. It's not just about the money, it's about the lack of transparency and consideration for visitors. I strongly recommend the zoo to be honest in their advertising and improve their organization, because as it is now, it only creates disappointment and feels like they are playing with people's expectations

It's a nook of a zoo. Cute, clean, cozy. You aren't walking too long and overwhelmed with things to take in. I think it's perfect for toddlers or younger children. I took my one year old on a Saturday around 12pm, it wasn't crowded, which was a plus. There were a few empty exhibits but I guess that's to be expected. We got to see some different animals. The cutest by far was the Red Panda! My son definitely enjoyed himself (I could tell by his ooo's and pointing). At $9 for adult tickets we may be visiting again when he can engage a little more. Oh and they had this cute little log play area and an amphitheater. The parking area has a great picnic area on one side. On the other side a body of water with some rocks you can sit on. In sum it's worth it, have a little outing go see some animals enjoy the fresh air!

The zoo is VERY small. I knew it was small going into it but I've been to small zoos and this is again, VERY small. The admission was $7 per person which isn't bad. It took me about an hour to go thru because I did stop and watch all the animals. If you kind of just take a peek at each animal, you maybe will be there about 30 minutes. My favorite exhibit was the lemurs mixed the turtles, that was just adorable. The staff was nice, lots of parking but overall it was just okay, nothing more nothing less.

Come for the capybara, stay for the lemurs. My son's been wanting to see a capybara for a long time so we decided to take a little trip to Wilmington. This zoo is ADORABLE! Yes, it's small, but unlike at larger zoos you can actually spend a good amount of time looking at the animals instead of glimpsing them for a few seconds in a crowd of people before giving someone else a chance. There's plenty of shade, lots of friendly staff members, the animals look very happy and it actually smells nice and fresh. Also, free parking! We all agreed it was a much better zoo experience than we've had in the past. Very clean and relaxed and uncrowded.

The bald eagles were very patriotic.

A small zoo, that basically fits all along one short walkway. You can walk it in an hour tops if you stop at each exhibit. If not, it'll probably take less than an hour. The Snack Bar seems to close pretty early on weekdays but is very inexpensive. The pudus just had a baby pudu on July 13th (according to the sign). Family-friendly spot. The bald eagles were very patriotic. Buy your tickets there rather than in advance. The Brandywine Zoo charges a $1 fee per person for booking in advance online.

I love this little local zoo! It's perfect to bring your little kids for the day or a few hours or even just an hour. It's very kid friendly and very cheap. You/the kids can pet the African pygmy goats! (hand sanitizer is provided). During its off months which I believe are Dec-Feb admission is free but they still keep tally of visitors. (Also since it's free off season they have many animals off exhibit and the gift shop and snack bar may not be open.) Parking is free and plentiful. I love zoos, and my fiancé and I have been here multiple times during multiple seasons. The gift shop is small and has some cute stuffed animal souvenirs, bags, toys and other chachkies. And if you're really tight with your "pennies" they have a souvenir penny press machine right outside at the gift shop door. Although very small, you can see some amazing animals live and not just on TV here; for example the largest flying bird the Andean Condor, good ole yet majestic American Bald eagles, golden lion tamarins, and more. I'm not sure if the tiger is still there but he/she was beautiful, and hopefully happy and healthy in a bigger sanctuary. My favorite part of this quaint zoo is the river otters and watching them constantly slide down their little water slide. Unfortunately, this last time we visited there was a sign that "something new is coming" and "Clark" one of the otters were now transferred to another zoo. I will miss seeing my favorite animal but I look forward to what will replace them. I would say if you're in the area and have some spare time even 30 min, stop by. I'm so happy this zoo is so close to my home and open year round(check hours online). If you do plan to visit, check out their website for family fun events they may be having! Cannot wait to bring my little niece here when she visits.

Parking is easy - $10 for the whole day (and the waterfront is really lovely to walk along, and only a short walk from there to the USS New Jersey battleship). Lines move along quickly to get us in and they took our CityPass and got us our wristbands. Positives: -Lots of different things to experience. Some spaces are a little more kid-oriented, including a pirate search as walking through different mini exhibits. -There is a cool area where you can talk to scuba divers as they work in the big tank. -The rope walk over the shark tank. It's so secure you never feel any danger of falling in, but it is cool to walk over open tank. Child #3 loved this. -The shark tunnel where you are underwater and able to see all the animals swimming around you. -Plenty of bathrooms in each area, all with a clean changing station. -IMAX level movie theater with movies every hour. -Lots of interactive displays. Negatives: -The whole aquarium feels a little fragmented, like spokes on a wheel, which required a lot of backtracking if we wanted to go see a different section of the aquarium. -There are two touch tank areas, including a very large room which can easily fit over 100 people but only one sink to wash up after handling rays and other marine life. Overall decent place to take the family and experience the beauty of our oceans!

After going through a bag check area, your tickets are scanned. There are bathrooms and a locker area in case you want to store items...this is helpful, particularly during the colder months when you are carrying around heavy coats. You head upstairs where there are a few food areas selling the the typical snacks you'd expect, popcorn, pretzels, drinks...there was also a "grill" area but it didn't seem to be open on our late morning weekday visit. The aquarium itself is lovely with some great exhibits throughout. Wide variety of fish as expected but also some other unexpected sea creatures such as a variety of eels and jellyfish and a giant pacific octopus. The large central tank that contains various sharks, stingrays, sea turtles and other sea animals was great...and viewable from multiple sides. There are touch tanks containing smaller stingrays, smaller sharks and some reefs. There is also the "Shark Bridge" which is a cool concept. The Hippo tank is massive and offers some great up close views of them. Overall, I would expect to stay 2-3 hours, depending on how many exhibits you want to read and see. A quicker view-only walkthrough can be done in about an hour. Admission prices are about $34-$42 for adults and $29-$36 for children depending on the day...weekends are more expensive than on weekdays. I think that is a bit high for what you get...prices of about $25-$30 may be more appropriate. Be sure to check for discounts...we saved about 15% by getting tickets through AAA. Parking was $10 but there was a $5 credit when paying using the kiosk inside the aquarium. All staff encountered were great...except the parking lot attendant, who wasn't.

From the pea fowl roaming free all over the grounds (and the males will get in your face if you go near the females to say "hi" or get a picture lol), to the bear sleeping in his water trough on a hot day, to the lazy porcupine napping on a perch, all of these guys were healthy and content! As others mentioned, it's not a huge zoo, but there is an impressive assortment of animals (35 exhibits), and all animals I saw were total extroverts and very fun to watch. My kindergartener was entertained for a full hour, and it was a hot day, so a few animals were hiding out in the shade and not visible, or just unavailable in their indoor enclosures. We heard one talk, at the tiger exhibit, but on a more fairweather day, with a schedule to catch more talks, we could've stayed a lot longer. The (also free) animal talks at different exhibits throughout the day (11am, 2pm and 3pm), are very informative and interesting. The zoo is mostly shaded, outdoor paths in a loop. A small river runs through the zoo, with benches and places to lounge. They do have a picnic grove. Outdoor food is allowed because the concession stand is only open on certain occasions, but feeding animals is prohibited. The staff was super friendly and relaxed, but very qualified, caring, and attentive to the animals. I got a really good vibe here! Only negative was the parking lot is way too small for the zoo and I had to wait for a parking spot to open up. Not only is there not enough parking for the zoo, but it shares the lot with the Splash Park nextdoor, which is nuts in summer months. Do combine your summer zoo visit with a $4 (2024 price) visit to the Splash Park, but arrive early or be ready to battle for parking! Will visit again! On a broiling hot 4th of July, when the last thing we wanted to do was barbecue or go to a parade, we saw it was open and decided this was our opportunity. Yay! We arrived to a mostly empty museum, with a group of volunteers and staff who were really great! Being in the museum without crowds was lively. We got to meet two different snakes, learn that turtles can actually move quite fast and can climb trees, and learned that after the passing of Dude, the Museum Cat, they gave a new cat in training. Rye exhibits were nicely curated. This museum is not expansive, however they use their space well, focusing on aspects of Delaware's ecology and history. There's a family/kid nature "lab" where people can explore hands in nature. Parking is free in their private lot. It's an open, airy space that is fully accessible.
