This year I…read moregot into gardening and when I first visited I was so amazed that this existed, so I began volunteering! I'm sharing more about my volunteer experience with this great organization because I think it's a less traditional experience you'd read about in a review. I'm always impressed by the staff who maintain Lucille's Edible Garden and they are very intentional about giving volunteers like me a good experience as much as they would want someone who pays for admission to enjoy their visit! After filling out an application and doing a quick orientation with the volunteer coordinator, I could sign up for 3 hour volunteer shifts immediately after that. I love that they try to diversify what they are growing to include produce you wouldn't necessarily find at any grocery store. For instance, red okra and purple bok choy! As an Asian American, I was also learning a lot about rare seeds of Asian vegetables I didn't know existed. Not only is it rewarding to help harvest food for the Media Food Bank and address food insecurity in the community, but I have met wonderful people through the experience. I have also learned a lot about the importance of pollinators, what's good/bad for growing in the garden, and really appreciated how Tyler has a community of volunteers who have been serving for years. It really attests to the kind of organization they have they we keep coming back and encouraging others to consider joining us too.

Honestly, that's what made the biggest difference: have you ever been to a zoo where the staff, as they are working, turn and have conversations with the patrons? Also, there was a short talk/presentation about turtles - my kids loved it! They asked so many questions and because they were local animals, we could then look for turtles - my kids now love turtles as much as volcanoes!! Also, they had a monarch butterfly egg monitoring project going on, and it was exciting to see staff go out with mirrors in the weeds to count eggs. It's hard to articulate how unsung this place is. Incredible experience, mainly due to the accessibility and welcomingness of the park staff!

Other than this zoo being very small, I had a great time with my family today. They have a great handful of enclosures that are habitats with several animals - for instance, there was a lemur habitat that had tortoises and a fowl. They also had an enclosure that had Scarlett ibis, ducks and an anteater! They also have a gift shop that was on the smaller side, a petting zoo where you can pet the goals and a snack shack. Great place for young kids - who don't require a large attention span to get enjoyment out of the zoo.

Jokes aside, while that hyperbole is of course not true, thematically it is. As another Yelper pointed out, this is not Tyler or Morris by a long shot. This is basically a small down and back loop with a few short side trails that crisscross the main path, Jenkins Road. The below is a good map that shows that every trail they have here is 1/4 mile or less (sometimes much less) and that the main path is paved blacktop. www.jenkinsarboretum.org/visit/map/ During our 75ish minutes here, we didn't see anyone (I didn't expect to considering it was a Friday afternoon in winter still with snow on the ground) and the parking lot was nearly empty. What I mean is, I'm not a bird watcher and don't know much about bird habits or the sounds they make or their migration. But I can say that I learned a lot from the displays here today and enjoyed walking through the entire thing. It gave me a better appreciation for birds in nature, how they fly, the threats to their survival, etc. And the place isn't preachy. Just a very informative, pleasant learning experience. There's good information here that's well and efficiently presented; it's just enough - it's not stuffy or oppressive. The staff is helpful. We were fortunate that a house tour was beginning during our visit, and we joined that tour (included in the admission price). The tour is given by a volunteer docent. It was very informative, and we learned a great deal about Audubon (the good, bad and the ugly) and his life, marriage, his work and his valuable contributions to the field of bird studies. I'm giving this 5 stars for what we saw, and I'm assuming (confidently) that a walk/hike through the grounds on a nice day would be great.

Just interested in the art. At the Audobon center, I read everything. So interesting to learn about migration, how birds fly, their physiology ... and John James Audobon himself. What a colorful character. The mission of the center is to educate people to cherish and protect the natural world by preserving Audobon's artistic and scientific legacy. I had no particular interest in birds, but I was fascinated. The center is located on a bird sanctuary -- and the grounds are beautiful. There are trails which visitors are free to explore. BTW, if you're looking for a venue for a special event, check this place out. Staff was setting up for a wedding while we were there, and I was impressed.

Our tour consisted of the Blacksmith, Pond Life, Mill Tour, Miller's House and Hearth Cooking. I must admit I think the adults were a bit more intrigued by the program than the children. I specifically loved the Blacksmith demonstration. The gentleman showed us how tedious it was just to make a simple spoon and the amount of work that went into making items out of iron during this time frame. He explained that during this time 8-9 year olds would have been working on making nails and how important the Blacksmith was to the community. I would love to visit again and participate in learning more about the process. I not a bug lover so the Pond while the children thought it was cool to play in, I would pass. The Mill tour.. amazing the process of milling flour and the Miller's house displayed how the home would have been set up during the time period, including the brick oven. I also enjoyed the Hearth cooking.. the children learned how to make and "cook" cookies outside in a Hearth; the cookies actually tasted pretty good. Overall, I really enjoyed my time on the grounds. I look forward to returning and participating in another programs.

I grew up just outside of Saratoga and the vibes are completely different here in a good way. There's no gambling or heavy drinking and most importantly the horses are treated so much better.
