Brand Park is a relatively hidden park located in Glendale. This is actually quite an interesting park because there are multiple activities to do here, but you do need to come at the right time to maximize your experience here. [Brand Library]: It was built in 1904 and owned by Mr. Leslie C. Brand. When Mr. Brand died in 1925, he left his estate to the City of Glendale upon the death of his wife provided it be turned into a public library and park. Mrs. Brand died in 1945 and the building officially turned into a public library in 1956. The library closes on Sunday, Monday, and holidays. [The Shoseian Whispering Pine Japanese Tea House & Friendship Garden]: The tea house was built in 1974 and the tea house has tea ceremonies and festivals on selective dates (see the Shoseian Teahouse website for detailed dates & by reservation only). Friendship Garden is opened on Monday through Thursday from 10 AM to 3 PM. [Doctors House Museum & Gazebo]: Doctors House was restored and opened to the public in 1984. Guided tours available on every Sunday 2 PM - 4 PM (closed during the month of July, on holidays, and during inclement weather) with suggested donation of $5. The museum is closed outside of the two-hour period. [Brand Park Hiking Trail]: There's a giant status of the American Green Cross and it also starts the 2.1-mile Brand Lateral Trail Loop. [Others]: There's a small wading pool on the bottom of Brand Library & Art Center as well as a baseball, children playground, and a grassy field for picnic. It's a really nice park with so much potential, but it makes absolutely zero sense that the Friendship Garden and Doctors House Museum & Gazebo don't open on a same day & force visitors to come two separate times to see them all.

Brand Park is my favorite park in LA. It's a multi-use park and is very wild, with coyotes, deer, and other animals that come down from the mountains at night. It's also historical, the grave site of the original Brand family is a small hike up from the Japanese Garden. Best features: HIKE: there are about 3 hikes connected to the park, varying from moderate to hard. JAPANESE GARDEN: the hours are short and inconvenient, but if you look online for seasonal hours and make it in it's free and tranquil DOCTOR'S HOUSE/ CEMETERY: historical landmarks still stand on the park PLAYGROUND/ BALL FEILDS: the baseball feilds and playgrounds really add depth to this park. There are also kiddie pools that have been dry as of late. BRAND LIBRARY: The hours for the library are good, and the library hosts art shows among beautiful study areas and books EVENTS: Summer concerts in the park, movie nights, art exhibits, and cultural food festivals are all held here. BATHROOMS: there are about 2 public bathrooms and another in the library that are well maintained PARKING: there's a good amount of parking onsite, on the street, and around the area

    Nice park!

Very nice park that has a picnic area, baseball field, library, and a Japanese Tea House. Dog friendly, yay. When we stopped by on Labor Day weekend, there were a lot of families at the picnic tables having a barbeque and just relaxing. It wasn't too crowded though, and you can definitely enjoy some peace and quiet if you wanted to. Unfortunately the Japanese Tea House was closed, but it is cool that they have it. They also seem to host summer concert series for free on weekends, and that is a nice community touch for local residents. I went to high school in Glendale many years ago, and I used to come here with boyfriends/friends/etc... and it hasn't changed a bit! Kinda weird to see it after so many years but kinda cool too. Enjoyed it.

Brand Park is a nice relaxing place in the Valley, near Burbank and Glendale. It makes a big splash with its majestic entrance, it's hard to miss, a little jewel in the area. The actual park is beautiful, relaxing, has a nice playground, various picnic tables (I enjoyed an outdoor lunch here in the nature), parking, restrooms are more. The whole place is more of a complex that hosts Brand Library and Art Center ( I was here mainly to check them out and explore the grounds). On top, it has a nice Japanese Gardens (they were doing some maintenance while I was there), peaceful, with cherry trees and a nice pond full of big, colorful koi fishes. There is a cute gazebo and a historic house (The Doctor's House) on the property as well, opened to visit on Sundays from 2 pm to 4 pm. I wasn't there on a Sunday so I didn't get to check it out, but that'll be some other time. The property that belonged to Leslie Brand is huge and it was great he donated it to the city so that everyone can enjoy a bit of what it has to offer. It has a bit for everyone : history, art, culture, playgrounds, nature exploring and hiking trails, peaceful gardens, picnic areas. I didn't do the hike, although it sounds tempting to go and find Brand's family cemetery. I got a tad scared by my fellow Yelpers reviews describing its steepness. Maybe some other time I'll get the courage to try it out. I couldn't take a photo of the nice American Green Cross Statue since a dude was parked on it the whole time I was there (while I checked out the Library, Art Center, Japanese Gardens, the grounds, had a nice picnic). So I'll leave it for some other time. Brand Park is a nice place to come back to, explore some more, hike, check it out during various seasons, enjoy a picnic, bring a book. It's more left to explore here, a nice find!

Brand Park is one of the best parks in LA. I love hiking here, bringing my son here, and enjoying the art events. It's high in Glendale/Burbank, hidden in the mountain and surrounded by trees. The grounds are immaculate and the air smells better up here. The location is gorgeous. There's a bright white Moroccan style gate at the entrance leading to a palm tree lined road into the historic Moroccon house that is now a library. The grounds are expansive, and perfect for a picnic. There's space for everyone. There are hiking trails, tennis courts, and a koi pond! The left side of the park is very family friendly. There are two playgrounds right next to each other and a splash pool at the bottom of the hill. The activities and events are excellent. They have a concert series on the Plaza, art exhibits, and fun activities for Christmas. We came for a candlelight tour of the doctors house and ended up eating cookies and making pins for Christmas gifts. Then, we went caroling. Brand park is special. It's nice, beautiful, and welcoming. I highly recommend it. It's the kind of place that makes you proud to be from this area.

We're not from this area, so didn't know anything about Brand Park. We were there on Father's Day, expecting to visit Doctors House Museum. Unfortunately, though they open on Sundays, holidays like Mother's Day and Father's Day are excluded. Road signs provided some direction to the park, while Google Maps sent us a different way. I didn't know what to expect, so was surprised that this large, diverse park space was at the end of the Maps rainbow. We found our way to a secondary entrance, parked and walked to the Doctors House entrance. That's when we discovered they were closed that day. Sharing the same section of the park, and the same grassy lawn area, we happened upon the Whispering Pine Japanese Garden. It's not a garden I'd seen mentioned in any lists of such gardens in the Southland, so it was a pleasant surprise to see it. We ended up walking around the whole grounds, enjoying the water features and large koi pond. An event was going on in the tea house itself, so we had more access to the grounds than we would have otherwise. The sign outside indicated the tea house and gardens are only open Mondays through Thursdays normally. The park is quite large. We didn't explore the other areas, as we had to get to a dinner event. Located on the upland part of the city, it appears to be a great resource for the community. Since we still want to visit Doctors House Museum, we'll be back!

Where have I been? How come I never knew the existence of this park? I'd been to this area so many times and it's actually on the street as Jon's Supermarket where I frequently go grocery shopping. Thanks to a recent search on Yelp for a nearby park that I can go to during my lunch break from work. As I approached the end of Western Ave towards the mountain, I immediately saw the entrance to this huge park which is lined by beautiful, tall palm trees. There's ample parking all around the vicinity. I headed towards the stairs that led to a building with equally beautiful architecture which I found out to be a library. In the adjoining area is the huge art gallery where an exhibit is ongoing during my visit. I headed down the other side of the building and saw an old house which I learned to be the ancestral home of Dr. Brand himself. It has a very well manicured lawn with a lovely gazebo. A bit of farther walking led me to the Japanese Garden and Teahouse. It's so peaceful and tranquil in here that I almost forgot I had to come back to work.

Parks are a dime a dozen in the City of Angels meaning that one needs to have unique features or attributes to stand out and attract folks to the grounds. Naturally, some are better than others and offer a different experience. Brand Park, located at the base of the Verdugo Mountains on the Glendale/Burbank periphery; is one to add to the list. How does it rank? The drive to Brand Park is a peaceful and beautiful one surrounded by large mansions, landscaped yards, and perfectly maintained streets making you feel like you are in the Beverly Hills-comparable part of Glendale. A high-arched gate and palm-lined street enters you into a 31-acre park at the foot of the mountains where ample parking awaits you. Brand Park is the typical neighborhood park in terms of offering a grassy stretch of land, trees, and grounds for leisurely entertainment but there is so much more to be said for it. Brand Park houses the standard park flair: playground for kids, baseball field, basketball court, and walking/biking trails which lead into the mountains. But this isn't all, folks! The Band Park grounds are sort of an 'adult park' in the essence of bringing art and culture into the mix. The park is the home to The Brand Library and Art Center (and Brand Studios) plus the Whispering Pine Teahouse, Historic Doctors' House Museum, and even the Brand Family cemetery! Brand Park is a complex hub of activity giving access to more than just a grassy spot for a picnic. After browsing some music-centric books at the library and artwork in their galleries, park-goers can head to the Teahouse to savor the sound of a creek under a Japanese-inspired bridge. Careful to attend on the correct day though as hours are limited to Thursdays and otherwise the Teahouse is gated. It is available for event rental, though. The Doctors' House Museum is also a perk with its Victorian architecture and antique feel (originally the home to Glendale's first doctors) and also the spot for time-period events (the museum is open for regular docent-tours on Sundays). In addition to these attractions, Brand Park works with the community by having a spot to pick up free mulch! The park genuinely has a nurturing but historic feel. Both kiddos and adults alike will alight at the critters in Brand Park hanging out as though Snow White is singing and reining them in: the famous Burbank parakeets and parrots chirp/squawk from the highest tree branches, squirrels scamper abound, and rabbits take a lunch break (I saw an adorable, LARGE, white rabbit with black ears who wasn't shy at all about binging on some grass!). The best thing about Brand Park is its beauty. It's the city of Glendale so obviously the park is well-maintained, clean, and sparkly while the energy in the air is relaxing and serene. Brand Park is certainly the place to go to "get away" from the trials of your day for a couple hours. Overall, Brand Park is a great choice among the plethora of neighborhood parks in LA to have a picnic, visit free art galleries, and hike some trails. It's win-win and a well-rounded experience certain to satisfy folks of all ages.

I love the Brand Park Vicinity. It reminds me of a mosque or temple. Even if the mountain trail is closed, I can still walk the vicinity and get a great workout. Also, there are plenty picnickers. They have filming and photography rules because of private events, but none today. I don't consider it a safe place for unattended children and teens because of the mountainous vicinity.

One of the loveliest local parks with beautiful Japanese Tea House/garden/large koi pond, lily pads and waterfalls, little bridge and great hiking trails (moderate to strenuous). The entrace to the park is absolutely gorgeous (Moroccan/Indian architecture) lined with palm trees and beautiful rose bushes. It's a quite large property that also includes the Brand Library (Covid closed) which also reflects the exquisite Moroccan/Indian architecture. This is a "must visit" site...absolutely wonderful. Childrens' play area, picnic areas, sports fields, public rest rooms, plenty of free parking. Brand Park is an absolute gem in the heart of Glendale!!!

Great nearby park for hiking, Japanese garden, library and picnic. It's very scenic with beautiful architecture and rose gardens. Best of all it's free! It's one of the steepest hikes that left me out of breath but the view was just as good as Griffith park. If you want to check out the Japanese garden be aware that you'll need to make reservations. I haven't checked out the library but I want to

There's not a lot of traffic around the park so it seems safe for your kids if you plan to bring them to play. If you're from around the area and need to take a breather and time to walk, this is a good place to walk around. I saw a few joggers, but it was mostly quiet and hardly anyone around. Since COVID19 a lot of restaurants are not allowing you to dine-in, so this is a good little place to picnic with your friends or family. We ended up staying in the car and parked right by the park. Parking was easy, in a lot right near the playground. There were a few parties going on but the park was small enough that we had no trouble finding the right one. The park was great, well kept and inviting. Even the bathroom wasn't bad--I generally avoid park bathrooms but had to attend Leo, and this one wasn't disgusting. The playground was nice and our four-year-old Leo B. enjoyed himself running around the play structure. I liked that the party was set up at tables close to the playground, so we didn't have to spend the whole party fighting our child's desire to run and climb. He also liked being at the party, especially when the piñata came out. Our toddler had a good time, too, and took a little nap in his stroller after a walk on the smooth concrete path winding through the park grounds. We live pretty far from La Crescenta, so we won't be spending too much time here, but I really liked Dunsmore Park.
