Update: I was lucky that I had complete documentation about what happened and that I just happened to take it to a trusted shop the very next day, and they did a thorough job of explaining what was wrong with what Brakes Plus did to my car. I also had pictures. When I first contacted Brakes Plus Corporate office, I wasn't sure if I'd hear from them. To their credit, the Northern Colorado manager contacted me. At first, he acted as though I was just a complainer and seemed like he would blow me off. He was contacted by the home office, but wasn't sent the very detailed email I'd sent them. When he realized that I had documentation, he backed off. Once he read and saw the documentation and my very fair request for a refund of the other shop's invoice, as well as understood that I was willing to go to Small Claims Court, he put it through, and I received a check a couple of weeks later. What I don't know is if anyone was disciplined or fired over the very obvious errors and behavior at the Longmont shop. We won't be back because we can no longer trust that they will be honest or have trained techs. The manager took care of me, but didn't update us on what happened. And that is too bad. He didn't even try to win us back, which leaves me skeptical. My advice to all is that if you have work done anywhere and have any question marks, document everything quickly so there is no debate or he said-she said involved. read more

I had a alignment performed on my Honda CRV by Brakes Plus. It was fine. However, they also stated that the control arm and the front and rear struts should be replaced. Their estimate for the cost, $2,029. Wow! I took the CRV to my trusted mechanic to asked them to confirm the need. They found NO problems with these parts. This shop was started by a former Honda dealer service manager and many of the mechanics now employed by the shop worked for that dealership. In other words, they know what they are doing. I'd at the very least avoid having them do any extra work they state is needed. For me, I'll avoid them completely in the future. read more

They worked around my budget to assure I was satisfied with the price I paid for the work I needed done. I went in for a squeaking noise and was told it was my rear breaks. I was in a bind and needed the work done soon, so I went along with the purchase trusting the employee. Went to get my brakes done and also asked them to look at the front. End weird noise was coming from the wheels they told me I need to replace the front end of my car basically. All and all took it some where cheaper and now I can't get the tire off and one lug nut is stuck on can't even remove it they have over torque the lug nuts and did not torque them correctly. Very dissatisfied. Very frustrating. Very annoyed now I haven't even tried to get the back ones off. if I could get this place zero stars, I would. read more

After getting new tires at another shop, I stopped by Brakes Plus to get an alignment. I'm really glad I was able to schedule an appointment online for the same day. The alignment itself took about 45 minutes and the crew was friendly and seemed to know what they're doing. I deducted 1 star because I was quoted $200 because my car's a Tesla. They said the high price was because they had to do special things to get the alignment and Teslas are different. I mean, I get it, but really? Really though? I really wish companies would pay attention to the issue at hand and not upcharge based on the make and model. While I was a bit put off by the whole thing (I just dropped a load on 4 new tires after all), I was fortunate enough to see Yelp had a 10% off discount if I checked in. Oh baby, I took advantage of that! $20 off? Yes, please, thank you, and I'll have seconds. At the end of the day, the alignment is great. The guys over inflated some of the tires, so driving home, there was a bit of a pull in 1 direction. had a lot of work done on my car at Brakes Plus on Ken Pratt in Longmont, partly because it cost less than the dealership. However, every time I went there I needed something else done, and it felt never-ending In hindsight, I wish I had just paid dealership; it would have cost less, and my car wouldn't have needed all the repairs redone. Be cautious of them offering you discounts on repair costs; it starts that way, it will end up costing you much more. They misdiagnosed issues and replaced parts that didn't need replacing, and I had to deal with bad rear shocks twice. Eventually, I took it somewhere else to get it done right. read more

they replaced my radiator and it was taken back 4 times becouse it over heated. Then they said I need to replace head gasket and heater core and that might fix it $3611. Fed up I took it Hays and when they tested it. They found the fan wasn't working and need replaced. It should be covered by warranty but I will never take my vehicle there again. They over charge and apparently don't know how to check to see what's wrong. read more

I would give Joe (manager in Longmont) and his team more than five stars if I could. A few days ago, the windshield wipers on my 2011 Honda FIT ran amok. They would start up whenever I started the car, go through a few swipes, and stop at a random location on the windshield. The local Honda dealership service team recommended a new MICU (on-board computer) and wiper motor for a cost of more than $2000. I then took the car to Brakes Plus where my grandson often gets routine maintenance for the FIT (brakes and oil changes). By trial and error (because Honda does not document various relay functions within the MICU), the Brakes Plus team located the faulty relay and replaced it. Problem solved! Do not go here if you are a woman! They will try to up charge you like crazy. I came in to get new brake pads and I left with them trying to up charge me over $1,000 extra. Ken made it seem like my car was falling apart and it was dangerous to drive. Ken's customer service was also the worst I have ever dealt with. He lied to my face about the problems with my car and then went to the back and laughed with his coworkers. I also was scoffed at and had other customer service members roll their eyes at me when asking questions. I took my car to another company the next day and paid $1,013.00 less. BUYER BEWARE! EXTREMELY UNETHICAL BAIT AND SWITCH - SEE PHOTOS!!! Brought my elderly Mother's Passat in for brake service on 10-9-2021 as the car had a shimmy while braking on the highway @ high speeds. They performed a "free" brake inspection and came back saying that her car was in need of new brakes and rotors on the front, and that the rear was "in good shape" as noted on the receipts they gave me. They changed the FRONT brakes and rotors and sent me out the door with a bill for $630. I drove my Mothers car to work to test the brakes (I'm a pilot, so am gone for days at a time where the car SAT in a parking lot at the airport, but use the highway to get to work, and wanted to be able to test them). I noticed that the issue with the shimmy didn't change after having the front brakes and rotors replaced, so made an appointment for 10-15-2021 to bring the car back into the shop. While I was waiting for service, my Mom came to pick me up to grab a quick bite for breakfast. I turned to my Mom and said, "I bet they try to come back saying that the rear needs replaced"...and no joke, just like I predicted they did a complete 180 on what they said just days earlier about the rear needing brakes. They were hoping to take advantage of my elderly mother for another $600 dollars. They also claim that the rear brakes went from 7/32 to 4/32 in less than a week while the car SAT in a parking lot (see pics). They must think we are stupid. Right after I left, I get a voice message from a shop employee that "they got their estimate done and to call them." We returned to the shop where the kid working the front desk comes out with the estimate paperwork. I called him on the BS and said no way! He indicated that they'd put the tires back on and pull it up. In less than 30 seconds, the vehicle was pulled up to the front. Id bet money that they NEVER even took the tires off... It's probably the reason that Discount Tire company is handing out coupons/recommendations for BG automotive. There's a special kind of hell waiting for these clowns at Brakes Plus @ Ken Pratt in Longmont; trying to take advantage of the elderly, and it's this very behavior that gives automotive repair shops a bad name in general. Integrity goes a long way, and these guys have NONE. Of course they didn't and won't be getting another penny from me, my family, or friends. I will make sure of that and I hope the person(s) reading this does as well- share with everyone so they don't fall victim to the unethical practices of Brakes Plus. read more

My husband took his 2019 Dodge Ram in for a rattling in the front end. They replaced parts on the front end and when he drove it, the rattle was still there so he took it back. He asked them to change the shocks on the front end and they told him that they were not leaking and didn't need replaced. They also told him to get rid of his Dodge and buy a Chevy instead. He then took it to another mechanic who found that the shocks were bad and replaced them. Truck runs great now. This happened in a span of a couple of weeks between first visit to BP and other mechanic. Wasted money at BP. Never recommending them to anyone. To top it off, front desk guy was bragging to us that their store was going to break $2 million this year. Not something to tell customers. read more

I asked for some education about my vehicle how exactly it was out of alignment. I was not able to locate my old invoice, and they were not able or perhaps not interested in looking up my service record from several months ago. The brakes they had installed were acting up and I wanted them to investigate the issue. I gave them lots of ways of locating my record, all to no avail. In the past, whenever I've asked other brake shops for help finding my service record for potential warranty work, they've seem to bend over backwards to find my records and help. I unfortunatly did not have time to work on my daughters car as she had to have it back. But these guys charged me almost $700.00 to replace 2 idler pullies, one tentioner pully and 2 belts. I found all the parts no special offer or discounts at a napa store for $ 226.61. brakes plus were almost double on parts. Not sure how much they charge for labor but those are bolt on parts and with a fully equiped shop $ 300.00 for labor wow just wow. I get you have to make a living but dang. Over the past many years they have done alignments, brakes, and one major suspension repair. Since this was my first oil change with them. I made several calls to various quick lubes and read poor reviews and was quoted higher prices. I had an 8:00 am appointment and was out by 8:45. The tech talked to me when the car was done and explained that they always change the "crush" drain plug washer. The price with coupons was unbelievable. However, it looks like they may have put in 5 quarts instead of 4.2 quarts. Since I have a vacuum pump oil extractor for my ML320 which I do myself, no problem. Awesome service! On a Saturday afternoon I thought my brakes had seized up on me. I called ahead and was invited by Brakes Plus to bring my truck in for inspection. Upon arriving with my truck on a flatbed the staff met me outside and got me signed in right away. Being a busy afternoon they said it may take a few hours but would gladly take a look. After only 2 hours they called to say my truck was done; including an oil change, and that it was only a small rock that had wedged itself in the rotor. When I picked up my truck there was no charge for the brake issue and I only paid for the oil change. I needed my brakes checked and I needed an alignment. Brakes Plus does both, so I took the car in after calling for a quote. I ended up needing rotors and pads for the front (the rear brakes were fine) and the cost was less than I expected even though I opted for the high end pads. When I went to pay, they had left the alignment off of the bill. I protested, thinking it was a mistake, but they said it wasn't an error. Apparently they wanted to give me a deal since I had so much work done. They even took the time to explain the numbers on the alignment to me, which totally explained the tire wear I was seeing. They treated me well, got the car in quickly and were done earlier than I had expected. The free alignment was the icing on the cake. I wish all auto maintenance went this smoothly! read more

Awesome shop. Steve and Mike really know what they are doing here. I was looking for a shop for an alignment, which can be a tad bit more complicated when you have to remove 3 degrees of negative camber from the wheels using camber plates. I told them the situation, they said they would have to charge a little more for the labor it takes to remove the back seat and access the camber plates, completely understandable. Took my car in within 2 minutes of being there, started work and didn't stop until it was finished. My alignment is in great shape now and im ready for another harsh winter. If you're in boulder and you are sick of all the shops there being horrible, overpriced and inexperienced, do yourself a favor and drive 15 mins down to longmont. You won't regret it! read more
