We were recommended by a friend that has been using this location for years for maintenance. My family used to own a Bridgestone dealership many years ago, so we'd always used Firestone. However, in one year I had two vehicles that I took into a location we'd used for 5 years and both times the cars came out in terrible shape in the same manner when they went in with no issues. After decades at Firestone, we figured on one it was just the way it goes which I had to sell for the amount I owed Firestone. The other I took in came out even worse and it died a month later and I lost money on it. Too much coincedence. When our friend told us about BrakeMax on Oracle/Suffolk in Tucson, we decided we would go there. BINGO! What a great place! Totally misdiagnosed the problem and wanted to charge 3 times the going rate for the job.

Went in for an oil change. That went well. However, the mechanic came back with a story book of repairs needing to be done. Went in for an oil repair for under 100 and the list of repairs... Over 6K. I relied upon their guidance to ONLY focus on what was absolutely necessary and that was expensive as well. When we do not know cars I think that seems to be written all over our faces. I still relied upon the ticket writer to guide me, which I did. The job was done, not just an oil change but two other items. The total of the job, after investigating with local mechanics was 3 to 4 X more than it should have been. Now I'm not saying I'm pissed and I'm not saying they did not do a good job. I really don't know for sure. The good thing is that they gave a 2 year warranty. However, the worst thing anyone can do is have a repair that is forced upon you based on "Scare" stories of the car breaking down and if it does "Will be much more expensive later on". In all honesty, we just don't know and those of us without car knowledge are the most vulnerable in these situations. It is just a note of warning... Be-Aware. The prices at Brake MAX WILL BE MUCH HIGHER than other centers. If you have time to price check and check reviews... do that first, do not allow yourself to be forced into any repair based on fear tactics. read more

The communication with Victor throughout the day was excellent. He kept me informed and explained the process as it was happening. I got fleeced out of $700 for a break pad replacement job that was quoted by another mechanic afterwards for $300. Do not go here. They will rip you off and upsell you on items you do not need. The price of the pads alone is $45, they charged me $150. Talk about a 3x mark-up. read more

This is the worst car shop I ever dealt with. I had to take my car in five times for a standard brake job. By the fifth time, the brakes were still squealing. I figured I'd be patient, give them a chance, and let them change my oil, rotate the tires, and fix the squealing brakes under warranty. I am a good, honest customer. I wish they treated me the same, but they didn't. After waiting all day, with no call back, this guy MJ told me my tires were all bad-even though they were replaced in 2019 and weren't driven at all during the lock down- and then he had the audacity to charge me 80 dollars for labor on the warrantied brake pads that he wasn't supposed to charge. I looked at the bill and he straight up lied to me about the labor warranty charge. I remained the bigger man and didn't want to sink to his level by arguing with him, so I let my credit card company know about what he did to cheat me. MJ lied about my tires and then cheated me on the labor warranty. Not cool. Yesterday, I won the dispute and got my money back. My credit card company determined the labor charge was erroneous. Bottom line: This place is lousy, they have horrible customer service, and can't fix a simple brake squeal. Ultimately, they straight up cheated me. They wasted my time and money. Some repair shops are honest and deserve to be frequented, but I highly advise that you go anywhere else but here. read more

Let me explain my story. My wife asked me if she needs a oil change since light is on. I tell her yes and she can go to the brake max again since she goes there for oil changes for her car during work. She makes a appointment for 0930 and takes it in for a oil change only nothing else. She gets out on a break and she has some missed calls I believe. It's break max saying she needs slot of work. Car had no lights on at the time she dropped off her car. They say she needs breaks, air filters, tire rotation but told them no cause it's free from discount, oil pan gasket because it has a leak no? No oil drops on driveway in years I want to point that out. Also some other work so total maybe $1000-1500 maybe. I tell wife all you need is oil change and the rest I can do for cheaper. She takes car and pays $60 for a slow oil change that took all day. 1-2 days later we find a oil spot on the driveway, CRAZY!!!! That driveway has been clean since steering pump went out 2yrs ago but now all of a sudden there's drops. I would not recommend this place due to the experience she had and now we have this mystery leak. I will taking car to another place to have work looked over to be safe. read more

I got my oil changed here a few months ago and as I was driving on oracle to go home I noticed the hood of my car was bouncing a little bit. As I peeled my eyes closer I realized the hood wasn't even closed all of the way!!!!!!! I had to pull off into the Trader Joe's parking lot and close it! The hood wasn't even latched either! I literally got out of my car and picked the hood up and slammed it shut like it should've been before I even picked my car up. Luckily I never even made it over 40mph yet and didn't hit any pot holes. The hood of my car could've flown up at any second and not only made me cause an accident but it could've hit and cracked my entire windshield! How do you not close a cars hood all of the way and not even notice it?? That's the easiest part of the entire oil change!!! read more

I last came here in 2012. Brake Max employees are paid on commission, unlike Brake Masters or Edmund's Automotive. Brake Masters & Edmund's Automotive usually beat their prices. Edmund's is the most affordable, experienced, well-trained, & trustworthy imho and experience. This particular Brake Max location doesn't have a mixable transmission flush machine like the original location. Iow, for a transmission flush, you can only use their oil. Which they've switched to, or are switching to, Pennzoil from Valvoline. Whereas Brake Masters has done the reverse, lol. Pennzoil makes better synthetic oil than Valvoline but they're a foreign company, Shell. read more

2015, I brought my car in to get a oil change. (big mistake!!!) They focused on other things other than changing the oil.They told me I needed new shocks, struts, breaks, and did a free tire rotation while changing the oil. Fine there all good so far.They removed my air filter and wanted to charge me 35 for a new one.(no, they are 15 at O'Reilly Auto Parts) I told them no and just keep the old cabin filter. Then they tell me that my rear tail light is out and they can replace the bulb because they have one on hand and its only 15 dollars.I say " no again that I will get it fixed on my own." (knowing that the tail light works) and after inspecting it with a friend It is still working fine).Ok well, after the 35 dollar oil change and free tire rotation, I am driving down Oracle road to River road and I stop at River road. The two rear hub caps come off turning on River road!!! A guy waved me down from his truck and told me that they came off!!! I thank him and do a u turn to go and see if I can go get them. One was already driven over and the other was gone! :( I call them and tell them what happened and they said its too late to do any thing about it today (near 5pm) so come in tomorrow and we can see what we can do. They replaced the hub caps with new ones. They did not say hey we are sorry this happened. A week later on I go to get my breaks some where else because I have a fear now that other things will fall off too. Any how, the other place that I went to, to get my breaks fixed say that my break fluid is con taminated and that some one put transmission fluid in my break fluid reservoir because my cap is all warped and the tester is not even reading what is in my break fluid. Is it because I did not want my breaks fixed at break max that they put some thing wrong in my fluid? Shame on you all!! If I want my car damaged I would work on it my self!! That's why I trusted you all to fix it because you all are supposed to know what you all are doing???? Never again will I EVER come back to you all or any break masters shop. I work at a retirement community and have told my story to every one there too, plus my friends and family. Why have a shop and rip people off? I trusted you all with my life! Never again! Hands down, this is the best mechanic experience I've had in Tucson in the 11 yrs I've lived here!! I went to Joe and his wonderful staff for the first time this morning. My car was shaking hard and dying while driving down the road, I had to push down on the brake as hard as I could, and there was a loud noise and pulling when I turned the steering wheel. I was fearful of the hundreds or even thousands of dollars I was going to be handing over. Joe suggested they look at the car at no cost, and they would let me know if they needed to do any additional diagnostics for a cost. Five minutes later, he tells me my car is fixed FOR FREE!! Something was unplugged and my power steering fluid was low. Another place in town lied and told me I needed at least a $100.00 repair just to fix the steering issue. Joe and his staff could of lied too about the repairs and thrown me into financial hardship. Instead, I was met with a very ethical, honest, knowlegeable and friendly staff at this Brake Max location! All three of my issues were resolved, and I didn't break the bank!! ATTEMPTED THEFT: claimed my calipers are bad. Refused to let me see the vehicle. Calipers very, very rarely go bad. Parts at $200. So for 1 hour of work, they want to charge $500. Avoid all Brake Max stores. read more
