On Monday, August 7, 2017, at approximately 1:34 PM I arrived at the 515 E. Yosemite Ave. Brake Masters location in Manteca, CA.
I was greeted by the Assistant Manager, Henry B., and told him that I was here early and wanted to check in for my 2 o'clock oil change appointment. He got me checked in and asked for the keys to do a preliminary check of the vehicle and mileage.
After doing that he came back in and stated that they would get my vehicle in the bay to start my oil change. Then, at approximately 2:10, he said that there was an issue because the oil drain plug had broken off and showed me the part that came off with the plug head, but said that the other part was still inside the oil drain pan. He said it was something that they should be able to fix, but it may take a while. Shortly thereafter, I believe that he went next door to the O'Reilly Auto Parts store to get a replacement oil drain plug, and upon returning about ten minutes later, he showed me what a new oil drain plug looked like, (earlier when he showed me the damaged one, he stated they were hollow) so that I would know how they look.
Around 2:55 PM he said that everything was taken care of and they were going to start replacing the oil in the car. At about 3:10, the service advisor, Kevin began to ring me up and was also wondering why the cost was so high for an oil change, then he stated that he saw I was being charged additional for the labor for something that the Brake Master mechanics messed up, as well as, being charged for the part that they broke.
I told him that I thought it was ridiculous for me to have to pay for something that I didn't break off, or do myself, but was instead broken when the car was brought to this place of business by one of their employees. He agreed with me, and stated that it had something to do with a "BAR," decision. He also stated that there was a "BAR" meeting this week and he was going to bring up the fact that customers shouldn't have to pay for things like this because it is part of the business.
Truthfully, the only good experience that I had at this location was talking with Kevin, he actually listened to my issue and agreed with me, it didn't change the end result, but at least he was friendly and personable. Meanwhile, Henry, basically made it out to be a joke. Stating, "Better be glad you didn't try doing this at home, or you would have had a hell of a time trying to fix this issue on your own!"
This is ridiculous and no way to run a business, I am letting all my friends and co-workers know to avoid Brake Masters at all costs, or you may end up getting screwed over like I did as a first-time customer at this establishment.
Also still waiting for a response from their corporate office as I have reported the issue to them as a synopsis and I'm waiting to see if they respond to me and get the rest of the story, or just try to brush it under the rug. read more
