So first off, I managed to get an appointment at 7:30am when I made an online appointment the previous day at 7:00pm. I was very surprised that they were quick to confirm my appointment. That's definitely a plus when you need your brakes taken care of ASAP. So I took the car and was greeted, but I can't remember the name of the person, but pretty friendly staff. They took my car and got the tires off and checked my brakes in about 30 minutes. Then the same worker called me up and took me to show what needed replaced and fixed and other "highly recommended" things to do. Ended up only changing the brake pads and told them I would come back to get caliper resurfaced. Overall, pretty fast and friendly place! They did tel me about stuff that my car didn't really need, but they were understanding when I told them no and they were not pushy. I would definitely recommend this place to get your brakes checked or replaced if needed. read more

I had an appointment for my break pads and they took over 3hrs to do them and when I left my car started to make a noise so had to take it back which was really annoying since I had been there for so long. The person who was working on them had placed it back incorrectly. The next day I had a squeaky noise when driving. I decided to take it to Firestone( WAY BETTER PLACE) and they told me it was due to whoever put my break pads used old materials and didn't lubricate everything properly. I will NEVER go back to break check. The people there are lazy and don't really know what they are doing. They take their time and still get it wrong. I HIGHLY recommend Firestone on bandera. Everyone is super friendly and actually know what they are doing. read more

NEVER take your car here to get a brake job done. I have been here previously and had a full brake job done with no issues so I assumed it would be safe to come back with another vehicle but I was wrong!!! I called ahead to get a quote for my other vehicle to price compare with shops/dealer locally and was told the price would be $900 at most. I take the car in because they beat the price of others and after having an inspection I receive a phone call saying the price is now $1645 to replace pads, rotors and calipers in the rear. The technician states the calipers in the front can definitely wait so I trust his "expertise" and get the work he recommends done. After spending this amount of money one would assume all would be well and there would be no worries, right? WRONG. The first warning sign was that the cars parking brake started to slip when in the driveway and it also started to produce a grinding sound as well as rumbling feedback that you could feel when on the brakes. We take the car back the next day to get this fixed and they state the technician didn't "retighten the parking brake" and this was the reason for the grinding and rumbling sensation as well. I leave thinking everything will be fine again and sure enough the grinding and rumbling continue even worse this time!! Keep in mind, this sensation of rumbling was never occurring before we brought the car in- only squealing at worst. Naturally, our lives don't allow us to continuously take the car to do maintenance days/hours on end so we have to wait for the next day to take it back in (for the 3rd time). We tell the gentleman at the front desk all of the problems we continue to have and he test drives it and of course they do not experience it themselves- shocker! He states they will take it apart and observe and the theory is that the calipers were put on too tight and that the technician that worked on the car (who apparently is no longer with the company) originally overtightened the wheel lock and stripped the lock on all 4 wheels so those will be needing replacement also. We are supposed to leave out of town in the car that same day to Houston and they state that the car is "safe to drive". The technician stated if we experienced any abnormalities to bring it in and they will warranty everything. We absolutely continued to experience a horrible grinding/vibrating sensation while driving which did not feel safe whatsoever to drive, so we indeed do bring it back to brake check for a fourth time! They look it over and state the calipers in the front just need to be replaced and that's why we've experienced all these problems AFTER bringing it to them. What a cop out and a great solution to get me to spend more of our hard earned money. Any sensible human being would not want to spend an additional $450 dollars with the same company tallying $2000+ dollars for a brake job that obviously had something to do with the issues we've been having AFTER taking it to them. I tell them to replace what was purchased already (like they said they would) and to give me the vehicle back. We will now have to take the vehicle somewhere else to ensure the work they did do was even done correctly and likely spend even more money to correct what they did. I really hope they get things together here and that no one else experiences what we had to because no one should. read more

I like bringing a car here for an alignment or other job that requires calibration beyond what I do in the garage. I know that I can count on them to suggest a bit more work than I care to pay them for, but I don't have any reason to distrust their methods. A list of suggested repairs and maintenance gives me a to do list of things to watch or check. I'd have to pay a premium for a "safety check" at a dealership. Alignment work I dropped off the car and caught a ride on uber. How easy. No up charges no sales efforts friendly service with a smile. I recommend them whether you need help with replacing wiper blades or you build your own vehicles and just feel like letting someone else do the next brake job. I would not recommend this shop to anyone. I had a small issue with my car vibrating a bit when I was braking so I took it in to get looked at. They said I needed new rotors and new brake pads and a list of other issues that totaled about 750$. they said that they could temporarily fix the rotors but they would probably need to be replaced in a year, so basically I should replace them now. I'm a college student and I don't make that much money - I mentioned this to them but they didn't seem to care. So I decided to go get a second opinion. The other me mechanic I went to said that my back Spring was stuck( this wasn't mentioned to me by Brake Check). The new mechanic also said I wouldn't need new brake pads until around my next oil change. He also said only one rotor would need to be replaced eventually in more than a year. In all, Brake Check will rip you off. Find a better place. read more

All over an absolutely fantastic place to get work done on the car. There's 8 bays, I came in on a Sunday and was helped immediately and my car was taken in quickly as well. Free inspection, they're VERY thorough and even take you out to the bay to walk you through what does or doesn't look good. If you're not as familiar with cars (like myself), they'll explain things to you. If you book an appointment online you get a discount on your service along with a few other perks. Heads up though, I guess there's a glitch in their websites scheduling system so it doesn't show all the available times. However, you can do what I did and call the day of (or before) and ask if they can take you in earlier. Still worth using for the discount though. They offer a lifetime warranty on breaks. read more

Horrible service. We've been coming here for years! And the service has never improved. I'm finally deciding that I'm going to take my business else where. This company is the absolute worst. EVERYTIME I call a day ahead to make an appointment for my oil change, tire rotation and alignment they ALWAYS (it never fails) ALWAYS Call back to say "the rotation is going to take long so would you want to wait til next time?" They for some reason always try to get out of doing it. Probably because they're lazy and do not want to do a 5 tire wheel rotation on a Jeep Wrangler. I don't have all the days off in the world to be able to go back and fourth! Not to mention I take a day off to get things done so I figure if I call ahead and schedule an appointment at the at 9am they should be done around 11/11:30am. WRONG! They take at least 5 hours to complete these task that they do EVERYDAY! And some how continue to get slower. BEWARE!!! SCAM ATTEMPT!!! Took my wife's vehicle in for an alignment several years ago when I first replaced the wheels/tires and was told it needed rear stabilizer links in order to properly align. I did the job myself since it was fairly simple and took it back in. Since then I've taken it in at least once. Went to Brake Check at 1614 W Loop 1604 N for an oil change and when I got in my car to leave there were greasy fingerprints on both front seats, the center console and the driver side visor. The passenger seat was completely reclined. I emailed corporate and received a call from a division manager stating to take my car back so the store manager could take photos and get me a visor replacement. When I arrived the store manager (Joe) said "Wow, that's pretty bad" and took photos. He asked that I leave my car and they would clean the visor...I advised that I was not leaving my car after what happened during the oil change and I just wanted the new visor. He stated that there must have been a miscommunication and that they were told to clean the visor. My husband left a message for the division manager stating this was unacceptable. Division manager called me back today and stated that they now want the opportunity to try cleaning it before deciding if they would replace. I told him no thank you. read more

My car is older and the front brake pads are wearing out. I kept seeing the brake check ad and decided to give them a try. There wasn't any wait on a Sunday so they were able take my car in right away and showed my how much my brake pads have worn. Because my car's front brake is bigger, it will cost $139 instead of the advertised $89, which is understandable because I know my car had special front brake. They measure my rotor and told me it's on the edge of the minimum thickness limit and recommended that I replace them instead of just turning it for an additional $250. They also recommended getting new brake hardware(metal clips and whatnots) for another $40 because the old hardware may not be holding the new brake pads as well. They also recommended that I get the lifetime warranty or an extra $20, so I can replace my brake as often as I want for free. They also happily apply a 10% discount to my whole job to make it easier to swallow the costs. They were able to get the job done within about 1.5 hours and everything works as expected. Some of the reasons I am not giving a 5 stars are as follows. 1. Does not give accurate quote over the phone or on their ads. When I first called, they told me the brake job will be $89. I knew my car had bigger front brake and will cost more but they said they couldn't give me quote unless I took the car in for a check up, which I think was BS. You can look up all the parts costs by year and model. It's all on the computer. If you are a specialized brake shop, you better not have to take the car apart before you can tell people the real costs. So I know they just want to get you in the door so they can do more up selling and make it harder for you to leave. 2. They costs are going to be much higher than what they advertise because the advertised price is only good for the brake pads and labor. You are always supposed to turn the rotor or replace your rotor disks when you pit on new pads. I did ask them the costs for my rear brake which is just normal size and falls under their advertised $89 price. But to actually get it done, it will cost me $89 for new brake pads and labor, $40 for new hardware, $60 for turning the 2 rotor, so almost $200 but you were not getting OEM parts here. Dealer quoted me only about $260 for the same brake job. If my car isn't that old, I would definitely pay the extra for OEM parts. I am still having hard time finding more review information for their Opteve branded brake products. 3. The life time warranty while does not cost that much also not worth much since it only covers the brake pads, not the labor, not turning the rotor, and not the hardware or anything else. They said you can get me new brakes everyday if you want to with the warranty but that what good is it for if you still have to pay majority of the costs of the brake job. Generic after market brake pads only cost $20-40. So, to sum it up. You got what you paid for getting your brake job done at Brake Check. It's not bad if you want a cheap and fast brake job done but it's probably a worth paying more for OEM brakes else where, especially if you only need new brakes once or twice for your car during the lifetime of your car. (OEM brakes on most of my Honda and Acura cars last a really long time, some over 100k miles. read more

They replaced my brakes and left electrical plug loose that detects the emergency brake. I took my vehicle to the dealership because I was getting an error for the emergency brake. It cost me $75 because it wasn't warranty since this plug was left loose, when I went back and told them what happened they said they would give me $75 credit. A few months later I went back and they said they didn't know what I was talking about. I contacted one of their supervisors and he promised to make it right but yet he didn't do anything thing, after promising he would. Brake Check is a privately owned business. Their shops have done numerous repairs to my Jeep when I was working with one of their more knowledgeable managers. Unfortunately the mgr is no longer available & when I started having issues with the repairs they did with lifetime part guarantees their other shop Mgr's wouldn't assist & honor Brake Check warranty. Tried getting assistance from their corporate office & as expected totally unresponsive & ultimately had to get repaired at the dealership. Eventually the corporate office lady spoke to me & referenced the tens of thousands I spent over the past several years at their shops & understood they should have been more attentive. They gave me a couple of gift cards to use in the future. When issues arise & u need help promised, it becomes a terrible customer service experience. Essentially they promise the moon until the need arises then they ignore you & drag their feet until u have to get their deficient repairs fixed somewhere else. Absolutely pathetic humans that run Brake Check. They Don't honor their lifetime part warranty work. They're liars & thieves. They Simply pilfer the public with crappy workmanship. Would definitely warn anyone not to use Brake Check. Avoid them at all costs. Needless to say their gift card was thrown away because I wouldn't even trust them to change my oil. Their employees have all likely just graduated from high schools shop classes. The service was impeccable to the point I was excited to write a good review! I came back from Colorado and wanted to make sure only this particular Brake Check serviced my vehicle. I'm a very loyal customer. Unfortunately my experience a few days ago will stop me from going there again. I went for brake pads, an oil change and rotation of my tires. I had an appointment but it took nearly 20 minutes for anyone to come to the front. I picked up my vehicle 4 hours later to find my engine light on. I then drove down the highway to experience my tires were way off alignment and I didnt have any windshield wiper fluid. I brought a 2003 Highlander in for a simple oil change. They did a courtesy check on the cabin and air filter. They did not put the cover back on inside of the cabin filter and the air blows through the box into the interior now. I had to fix that myself. The air filter box clips were not attached and then o one of the hoses coming off the box got disconnected which triggered the check engine light to light up. These items made my daughter nervous to drive the car. Stay away from these shops. read more

Here I am today getting it serviced and the General Manager Steve made me feel very comfortable. He gave me the remote to the TV so I can watch what I want since I'm going to be here for a few hours. One of the most valuable things you can find is an honest/reliable mechanic. (I FOUND MINE!) We have a small fleet of family vehicles. When we buy a new (or used) car, its first maintenance is usually to bring it to Brake Check (specifically, the 1604/Bandera Rd location!) to get a Lifetime Alignment and Lifetime Tire Balance. That keeps my tires in shape and my ride smoooooth! Forever! The Brake Check folks have a nice, clean (spotless!) shop, just outside Loop 1604 at Bandera Rd. They greet you at the door, chat with you about your needs. (And they listen patiently as you make "car sounds" to try and describe the problem...) Our family has had every vehicle we own under their care for years. They are open "early" for drop-off, and often stay open "late" for pickup. They don't do repairs without giving you a clear quote (time, parts, and dollars). And they are honest about what items "can wait" versus those broken items that "can kill ya". And - they do brakes, struts, shocks, suspension, oil changes. Almost a one-stop shop (but no direct engine or AC work). We have had 99% satisfaction, with one exception. (An OEM brake part failed on a new vehicle with 25K miles - but the Brake Check folks took care of us, towed the vehicle to their shop, and fixed it with new parts.) Absolute kudos and a shout out to JOE GODDARD for taking care of our family, our vehicles, and our safety! Took our truck in for a simple brake pad change. Nothing else. After being told we had all kinds of other stuff we needed changed we informed them we ONLY wanted our break pads changed. Picked up our truck only to find it would not drive forward. The front desk, explained this is why you need to replace all parts we "informed you of". Mind you I have been changing breaks my whole life. When I spoke with the Manager, he proceeded to curse me the customer. This is a brand new truck. This location needs their tech's retrained or something. I came here to get brake pad work and a few days after job was done, one of the brakes piece FELL OFF while I was driving on the road! I barely was able to make it home, thank god it wasn't on the freeway when this happened. Could have killed us!!! Had to have my car towed back to the shop for them to fix it. A few days after that, my brakes were STILL squeaking, LOUD!! Took it back for them to fix. Maybe a week after that, they were back to squeaking!! LOUD!! It's annoying. And non stop. Asked them to check it out and they are saying nothing else is wrong with them and they are fine even know they are squeaking. I need to go get a second opinion. I won't go back to them. I just don't want to pay another $300 PLuS bill. I don't want to drive around with squeaky brakes (even if they are saying they are "perfectly fine". They don't mind the brakes to make noise. If you do then you will be ok with getting work done here. I wouldn't advise going here. Go elsewhere. read more

According to the website, they would "hold my bay until 10 minutes after my scheduled time just in case I was running late". I arrived precisely at my appointment time and was warned that it would take a long time to get to me if I really wanted service done today. When I asked why I had bothered making an appointment the guy behind the counter just shrugged and said, "A lot of people came in". Hey idiot, that's why they're called appointments!
