I recently got my hair braided by Yasmine and wanted to leave a review for you guys. For starters, my braids are nice. They're neat, they aren't too tight, and they aren't super heavy. My appointment, however, is a whole different story. First and foremost, Yasmine showed up to my 10:00 appointment at around 10:20, we still had to get the hair though so we didn't end up starting until around 10:30. At around 11:15 I notice that Yasmine had stopped braiding, I look over and she's eating a breakfast sandwich. Everyone has to eat, I however think we maybe should've gotten more done before taking breaks, especially since we were already running late. After she finishes her food she begins braiding again, it is a family owned and operated braid shop so of course conversation is flowing. Every time the conversation gets a little heated I feel Yasmine stop braiding my hair and begin to talk with her hands- not tooooo bad, except the conversation gets heated every 2 minutes. She finishes the back of my hair (after about 4 hours) then passes me to another braider. When discussing the style Yasmine said that she'd be able to do it. She never mentioned having someone else do the top or not being able to do feed ins. The braider that was doing my cornrows is the owner of the shop so of course her phone was going off the entire time which means even more breaks. At one point while doing the top of my hair the braider tells me that she has to finish another clients hair really quickly- another break. She finally finishes the top a little after 4:00 (remember I've been here since before 10) After my hair is finished I tell her that I'll pay her $130 (we flipped flopped on price a few times and ended up agreeing on $160- this was before my complete mess of an appointment). She asks what I mean by that and I say again that I'll pay $130 because not only was she late, the breaks were wayyyy too frequent, I was passed off to a different braider who also took multiple breaks, and I've been in the shop for 6 hours. They finished two heads of box braids, a head of crochet twists, and a cornrow style in the time I was in the shop. Again, this is a family owned shop so Yasmine and two of her cousins now crowd around the chair I'm sitting in and begin screaming at me. I stand up and remind them that 1. None of them are my parent and 2. I'm an adult not a child. They're shouting at me and pointing their fingers in my face telling me I'm trying not to pay them, it's not gonna work and if I didn't have any money I should've told her that (I definitely had the money, I came in prepared to pay it + a tip). They LOCK ME in their shop and say they're calling the police on me. Yasmine calls the police and basically tells them that I'm trying to rob her of a service and that I said I wasn't paying- which I never once said. The police come and Yasmine tells them that I got up out of the chair and tried to push her out of the way- another lie and that people come in there "all the time" and get their hair done and then try to leave without paying- mind you I've never stepped foot in this shop. The officers start to approach me and Yasmine says to me "you're paying that $160 I swear to God". The police officer tells me that I can pay the $160 or get a ticket and have to appear in court. Whoooo has time or energy to go to court over $30!?! I attempt to comprise with Yasmine and ask her what if we're fair and just do $140. The officer explains to her that she can take $140 today and then tell me to never come back to her shop or she can take $0 today, have me put under a citizen's arrest, cited, and appear in court. She chooses to have me cited and appear in court. I give her the $160, tell her to enjoy her day, and leave the shop. I go stand outside to wait for my ride and all of the ladies in the shop are now inside talking about and taking pictures of me. I walk off to the side so that I'm not in front of the shop anymore and they all come stand outside, obviously looking to start something. I ended up just covering myself behind a brick pillar until my ride came. Just as a braiders time is not free, neither is mine. If you're preforming a service for someone there's no reason you should be late to the appointment YOU scheduled and then take 15 breaks to talk, eat, and be on the phone. When a client tells you their not satisfied with the way their appointment went there's no reason to lie or call the police on them. I'll never be back, I couldn't imagine ever spending another dime of my money there. I've been getting my hair braided since I was 2 and I've NEVER been treated like that in any hair shop I've ever been in. Just to say again, the braids are nice, but the braiders need reality checks. Sonia wasn't any where near as rude as Yasmine or the braider who sits directly in front of the door- I didn't ask her name. read more
