Don't stop here - no one was using the gas pumps (there looked to be two) and the bathrooms weren't working for both men and women (as of 2/27/22). The door was open and the lights were on, but no one was inside.... The toilets were unflushed and the stalls were wide open, so the place had an unpleasant odor. There was random paraphanelia including swords hanging over the doorway, but I didn't see the Nazi flag that other reviews had pointed out (perhaps it was taken down?). There was an unsettling vibe in the store and it looked like a set where a horror movie would begin. Once again, the amenities don't function and my friends and I hightailed out of there once we realized the restrooms weren't available - go to a different, more conventional gas station. read more

Stopped here for a quick pit stop to use the restroom on the way up to Bishop/Mammoth. Place did look a bit old and "antique-y" but discovered the building had lots of history & the owner aka probably the old man most mention in the reviews is 91 years old and currently in hospice care. Apparently the owner hasn't been able to keep up with the place due to his age and health condition and has barely held on to the property in this economy hence the donation requests and cash only policy. Unfortunately the property will not be around for long and will be taken down and replaced by a Pilot Travel center. I encourage you to make stops here while you can & support this business. Cons: 1. Their bathrooms are atrocious. No running water in the sinks (both men's and women's ). It looked like the last time it was cleaned was when gas was $1.00 a gallon. Dirty, hot with really no ventilation. Hope you have wipes in your car to clean your hands. Stopped for gas kind of late riding through the desert on a camping trip. Old man heard us roll up and was just watching us from a distance as we stepped a few feet away from the pumps to smoke cigarettes and figure out the rest of our route. Wish we would have went inside to check out the crazy shit people are talking about but the pumps were working fine and so was the card reader on the pump. I didn't think to look this place up until after the fact when my girlfriend saw the photo and looked this place up. I'm sure either A. Bathroom looks like nothing I've ever seen broken urinal with a bucket collecting urine below it. No running water to sink. Sign asking for donations to clean the bathroom. Reading reviews about this place on google and yelp is unmatched entertainment.... They go back almost a decade.. Pumps won't take credit card and signal "see cashier". Well restrooms are for paying customers only. Tried to buy a soda but no one could be found in the store. So we attempted to use the bathroom anyhow. If I used their restroom they would have to pay for the antibiotics I would need. Coso junction state rest stop is closed. I emailed Sacramento and actually received a response. Major sewer line failure. They have hired a contractor. Too bad they don't have them work round the clock to help out the summer travelers. I left this place in tears after I was locked inside for about 5 minutes. Here is what happened. We were on our way to Mammoth, and my daughter had to use the bathroom (again) so we stopped. I had my dog use the bathroom (making sure I was off all private property). The owner came yelling at me saying that some guy (who I could see far off, sitting on his front porch) has shot and killed at least 30 dogs for going to the bathroom NEAR his property. I was a little shaken, but decided to quickly use the bathroom before we left (okay... not my brightest moment I admit). The bathroom was rancid with no running water in the sink. There were creepy toys for sale, and knives (swords ?!) for sale. I went to leave, but the door was locked. I immediately started yelling, "Hello?! I'm locked inside!" Nobody was there. I didn't have my cell with me. I started to panic, banging on the front door. Luckily my husband pulled the car around, and saw me. He got out of the car and was about to breakdown the door, when the man came wandering back. He reprimanded me for going in the store "without telling someone," after he unlocked the door. Wow! I felt like I was being pranked. We stopped here on our road trip to fill gas and use the restroom. My kids (under 5) couldn't stand the smell in the store and refused to use the barely functioning restroom. When we walked out, the old man started hounding me about why I left the bathroom light on. Saying "would you do that in your house?". I don't remember anyone turning the light on when I walked into the restroom so I'd didn't think to turn it off. Anyway, I just ignored him and hurried off-- he was starting to scare me. He then told my husband to buy something since restrooms are expensive. He had three jars that said bathroom donations. We stopped in the mini-mart to refuel on our way home from a weekend in Mammoth. Our visit extended 10-15 minutes past getting gas and going to the bathroom because of the variety of kids toys and joke items like exploding gum and handshake buzzers. It was a nice break on our way home and we were thoroughly entertained (see picture of stuffed bear humping doll). We stopped at this place to get gas on our roadtrip. We couldnt use our credit card at the pump, so we went inside to pay up front. The guy there was super unfriendly and after taking the credit card barked at us to fill it up and then come back to complete the payment. My wife had to use the restroom, so she went back in while I was filling up the car. When she returned from the restroom and went to the guy to pay he told her he thought we took off without paying (wtf?!). I recommend staying away from this place and use the Shell station instead. read more

Stopped here, walked in and found the shelves sparsely stocked with old dusty cans. TV was playing a repeat of a man yelling "the revelation is coming! The end times are near!" The attendant looked like someone out of the movie Deliverance. When we left, fearing for our lives, the outside air was heavy with a smell of rotting bed sores, a rotten, death, fruit smell coming from the trailers behind the station. Higher gas prices. Everything is expired in that store so make sure you check the expiration date on everything. I bought a bag of cornuts and a bottle of soda they're both 4 months past the expiration date. Did i not check the expiration date? yes. Did i eat and drink them? yep. Did they taste weird? very. My husband said the men's bathroom was pretty clean, as for the women's... a lot of women destroy the public restrooms, they are actually more gross than men are, so stop being pigs, ladies. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE HERE! Buy your gas/snacks elsewhere! My boyfriend and I just had the worst experience here. We bought $40 in gas on our way to Bishop, and stopped in the mini mart to use the bathroom. I overheard the old man working there yelling at a woman with her young daughter saying that the restrooms were for paying customers only. The woman was taken aback and assured him that they would buy something. I assume he reluctantly let them use the bathroom. After filling up with gas and, again, spending $40, i insisted my boyfriend come with me to ask for the bathroom because I had heard how the old man talked to that woman and was scared! When we entered the store, the old man PUSHED my boyfriend back, mumbled something, and continued mopping the floor. There was no wet floor sign and the man didn't say anything until he yelled something at us at the door as we walked out. We left immediately and plan to call Mobil to file a complaint about this horrible mini mart their brand is attached to. Final thought: go to that Shell station everyone is suggesting. If I could click on a zero rating I would. The owner/clerk is not friendly. When I asked him "how ya doin'" he didn't even respond. I then asked him where the restrooms were and he simply nodded towards a sign. When I called him out about not being too friendly he said "when you get asked the same f...ing question 100 times a day, you get sick of hearing it". I apologized for never having stopped there before and he replied "I know you've never been here before or you wouldn't be asking me stupid f...ing questions". I refuse to use any gas station on the open highway like this one that doesn't have an automatic pump lever holder (you have to stand there and hold the gas lever while refueling). My family stopped in this store even after reading the review about porn magazines. We really enjoyed looking around. They do have a lot of novelty items, and a lot of things to keep children busy while traveling. What we didn't see were porn items. The closest thing to porn that we saw was a Betty Boop purse. It is more expensive than a grocery store, but we expected that. The bathrooms were clean and the cashier was a young man that was very friendly. I recommend this store to anyone traveling on 395. read more
