I contacted Boyd after being referred by the trenchless company. I explained that I had a driveway drain that needed clearing. I was advised that they do clear these types of drains and can have someone over right away. I was impressed.. I was told it would be a $39 charge and that would be deducted off the work they did.. When Jeremy came out he saw that the job was one that would require a diesel pump to clear.. the cost of this was a lot more than was expected and could not be completed at the time. Jeremy could see that I was disappointed and made sure that I felt I was treated fairly. He took the extra time to ensure that I was happy and ensured I felt as though I was treated fairly. This in itself is great business practice and very appreciated.. Even though I did not get work done.. the customer service was above standard. read more

Beware, they do not take responsibility for their mistakes. We paid them to inspect of sewer lateral. They assured us it was in great condition (in writing). Turns out they only inspected the first 40% of the lateral. The rest of the 60 feet of lateral were close to collapsing. We found out the truth of the condition of the lateral after we bought the property. To date they refuse to make good on their assurance that the lateral was "in great condition" and have refused to make good on their incompetent technician's inspection. They gave this assurance in writing. In effect, they lied to us in order to make a few hundred dollars. We relied on their inspection results (they did not even inspect the damaged 60' long area of the sewer lateral!) As a result we have spent about $30,000 on unexpected repairs. When your employee lies about their work and it causes damages to your client, you should take responsibility for the damages. Apparently Boyd Plumbing recently was acquired by Bonney Plumbing. But they operate under both names. From 3/1/22: I have been calling and leaving messages for 3 work days for the manager to talk to me about a serious problem with a previous service. I was given the names of Nick Camuso and his boss Sam. Neither one has bothered to even give me the courtesy of a return phone call. Their website presents the company a a caring and responsive company. This is not my current experience. Four years ago we bought a home in Sacramento. We hired Boyd Plumbing (Boyd was recently acquired by Bonney Plumbing, Electrical, Heating & Air) to video our sewer lateral. The tech was prompt, inspected the lateral, and notified us that the sewer lateral was in good condition. Three weeks ago we had a major problem with the sewer lateral - so far a $10,000 emergency service bill with an estimate of $19,000 addition in repairs. Turns out the sewer lateral is 130' long and the inspecting plumber (4 years earlier) had only videoed 45' feet of it. It turns out that the last 90' were not in good shape and need replacing 4 years ago. The plumber never told us that he only videoed 1/3 of the lateral. Had he videoed the entire lateral, we could have required the seller to repair the lateral before we bought the property. Now that option is lost. The lack of response by Bonney Plumbing, Electrical, Heating & Air is not appreciated. read more

It is difficult to imagine why I would call Boyd ever again. Maybe they have good techs and according to other reviews they are responsive. But ... We bought a new faucet for the kitchen sink. Boyd came out to give us an estimate for installation and refused to bid the job because we did not have a pressure regulator on the home. Additionally, they complained about access, need to pull the disposal, and need to replace the two shutoff valves under the sink. They were eager to leave. So I installed the pressure regulator and called Boyd again to bid the faucet task. Boyd gave a bid for the job of $570 to replace the faucet (see the picture). Half the bid was to replace the shut off valves. I told the tech that was insane; the valves slip on, cost $10 each, and can be swapped out in 15 minutes. He said this is their fixed cost pricing. I told the tech to go away. I understand fixed cost service providers amortize the cost of repair based on all such similar jobs BUT when it crosses over into the insanity zone they need to find a way to be reasonable. Nearly $600 to install a kitchen faucet is NOT reasonable! I did the job myself. I had to make a couple trips to ACE because I didn't have the parts or the tools. It took me several hours (including trips to ACE). The new shutoff valves slipped off and new ones were on in 15 minutes as I predicted. I was willing to pay $200 or $250. read more

My toilet seemed to be leaking from around the base, especially in front. September 10, 2020 I had a "diagnostic" appointment with Boyd Plumbing after paying $39. for this visit. The "technician" (why don't they call them plumbers?) arrived and I took him into the bathroom and stated that I thought it was leaking in front from around the base. I was thinking maybe the seal was worn out. The technician leaned over and touched the floor behind the toilet and immediately diagnosed it as (quote from written estimate) "Emergency stop replacement at bathroom with shower: Customer has a leaky emergency stop. Boyd Plumbing will drain water system, and replace emergency stop and supply." Time needed 1 hr, Price: $375 -$50 discount for an amount of $325. He then proceeded to try to upsell me toward the purchase of a new toilet. "Customer has moisture at the front of the toilet. The emergency stop is leaking in on and off position. However toilet might have a hairline crack. Boyd Plumbing will remove old toilet........etc." That cost would be $575 after a discount of $100 for bundling of services. So by the time the job would have been completed it would have taken 2 hrs and cost me nearly $1,000. The technician never examined the inside of the toilet tank. The technician never got down and really checked out the toilet or touched the bottom of the tank. It was as if he had a regular answer no matter what the problem and his job was to try to sell me as many services and products as possible. As it turns out the ONLY problem with my toilet was that the toilet flush valve needed replacing, the gasket at the bottom was worn out. It wasn't leaking from the emergency stop nor does my toilet have a hairline crack, it was leaking from the bottom of the tank below the valve. The Toilet Flush Valve repair kit cost me $20.23 at the hardware store and was a 15 minute job. And I wasted $39.00 paying BOYD PLUMBING for a lack of real diagnostics and who only wanted to sell me services and products I did not need. I don't know how other plumbing companies work but I sure can't recommend Boyd. read more

I am so appreciative of the efforts that Colton, Jacob, and Jeremy provided with getting through my plumbing disaster. I originally called for a backup in the bathroom. Colton was very thorough in his checks and discovered a much bigger problem with broken pipes under the house and in the wall. This company has my business for life. After another local plumbing company made the matter worse and was going to leave us without water for two weeks, Boyd plumbing and Israel came to the rescue and fixed the main water line. Working all day to dig the trench, the new work is clean and safe. Very professional and also empathetic to our plight. Next he fixed two vanity sinks and faucets and gave us a temporary sink with dishwasher and garbage disposal hook up. He will come back when the kitchen is nearing completion to make that sink and such permanent. Israel is also putting in a utility sink in the garage. Zeb was the Best! I was searching for someone to add gas lines for my pool. Then I found Boyd Plumbing. Zeb was very knowledgeable explained how he would do it. Walked me thru the whole process. I was given the quote same day. He was so patience as he helped me with getting a permit for my plot plan. Very responsive. He even contacted the city to verify they were on the same page. Zeb came and worked hard (took 4 days) always make sure he wasn't in the way. Letting me know every step and where they were at the end of each day. He wear a mask and abided by the COVID-19. 8.29.17 update: My water heater went out last night so of course I called Boyd again because I had such great service last time. Today Eric was sent out and he quoted $1300 to repair the water heater which includes (but not 100% certain this was the problem): cleaning the burner $348 (last time I paid $78) Replace burner assembly $751, replace pilot assembly $351 and the gas control valve $570 --- he would discount it down to $1300 for a total package. If I wanted to just replace the WH he quoted me $2100!! $2100 for a Bradford White with 6 year warranty. I even confirmed with him, "$2100 for just replacing the water heater and no other work?" and was told yes. (The WH I currently have is a crappy brand, American Standard and still under warranty, but it took well over a month to receive a warranty part that luckily wasn't needed after all.) I called and got 2 quotes from other companies, and was quoted half the price or a little over half.... HALF!! Obviously I went with another company. Buyer Beware! Don't be ripped off! **************************************** After dealing with two other plumbers from 2 other companies, I decided to take a chance and call Boyd Plumbing to see what they had to offer. It's really hit or miss out here in Sac when it comes to quality and service so I couldn't just settle for what the other two were telling me. Sure glad I did. I don't remember who I spoke with on Fathers Day when my 3 year old water heater went out, but it was followed up by a call from Vanessa to see if I still needed assistance. He then "fixed" my sink for a total of $425.00, which I payed. Yesterday the sink began to leak in exactly the same place. Trust those who Yelp regullarly... My home warranty company couldn't find a plumber to manage a sewage backup, so I called a few 5-Star companies here on Yelp. Sadly, everyone was booked, as it was the Saturday of the 4th of July weekend. Boyd agreed to come out within 2-3 hours (PERFECT!). I had a preapproval for hydro-jetting the sewer line, which Boyd also has... others did not (expensive equipment). They came out, cleared the line and then pushed a camera down inside to help identify a broken pipe that may have been missed by others. The only piece they slipped on was the request for hydrojet upon arrival. The technician they sent out did NOT have the equipment with him and had to come back. All-in-all, my tenants were happy, and that's what's important to me as a landlord. RECOMMENDED read more

They started out great, but fizzled out. We had two houses being worked on. Good work on the first one. On the second house, he replaced a faucet and rebuilt two faucets (even though I said I would order a new faucet for one). So I paid for a rebuild I didn't know he was doing. The next time he came, when he was putting the new hardware on the tub he had just rebuilt, he said he only was able to get one of the handles off when he was rebuilding it. I paid for a full rebuild. Even though the plumber directed us on what parts to buy, when they arrived he said they would not work exactly right. I told him I was okay with that because that bathtub gets little use. He did the job but failed to caulk around the new faucet, handles, etc which is standard. I called and he said he'd come out and take care of it but never did. All in all, they start out great, but fizzle out. And they're pricey. read more

The technician came out the next day, even after a snafu with the time-window, which I missed (10-2 instead of what I was told, 12-4). J. McClure was the Tech. He still came out the same day and fixed the plumbing issue in my front bathtub within about 10 minutes! My Master Cleanout is buried in my front bushes, and so I was stressing whether he would need access to that or not. This is an update to my review; The owner and another plumber came out to the house, looked at the situation and fixed it correctly. Installed the replaceable filter that should have been put in on Friday but was out of stock. Mind you the owner and new plumber showed up at 9 am Monday. Then the owner gave my parents a couple hundred dollars off for their inconvenience. They still have the way more expensive instant hot water system that they originally did not want but was installed and were charged for when the first plumber said he was not going to charge them for it. I know Boyd Plumbing did their best by fixing what was wrong with the job from the first plumber that works for them. Eric came out on time to evaluate a serious water leak in my front yard, which is causing my water bill to go beyond belief. He patiently answered all my many questions and gave me all the info I needed to understand the issues and make a decision. He phoned a leak detection company and we made an appointment for Jon to come out tomorrow to locate the area where the leak is. After that we can plan forward for Boyd Plumbing to do the repair or replacement. The development where I live has a homeowner's association, which approves my application to do the work & then approves the finished work. I had an issue with my sump pump float switch. I called Boyd. The plumber came out to give us a free estimate. I'm giving this a 4* review because the plumber himself, Jon, I feel was a great guy. He was on time, and kind and respectful all around. What I didn't like, was that the fixed price structure didn't feel fair to me. To get a further estimate, he had to place some code in the system that showed a $760 dollar fee for him to further assess what was going on. He knew that was a lot, so he included a $200 dollar discount. So it was going to cost $560 before I had an idea of the actual cost. I was uncomfortable, so again he looked at price codes, and he found another one that was $288 for an "inspection". I was "ok" with that, as long as this went toward the price. I asked what the price would be if the likely scenario of the float needing to be replaced and if the $288 would cover that. He checked, and that would be $480 for that service. I asked him how much the part would cost. He said $100 for the part + $180 fo the installation + $200 for (I forget). I checked on homedepot's website and the price was $25 for the part. I just didn't feel good about moving forward and I said I'd have to reconsider using them. Jon was great, and he supported me in my choice. I proceeded to buy the part and install it myself. Summary - Boyd seems to be a high quality service, but their price model for fixed services can really seem to backfire and get expensive if you have a simple task. read more

Very disappointed with Jeremy and the office staff at Boyd Plumbing! Forget about customer support from the aloof office staff. If you have a concern they blow you off and blame the technician. They say if you have an issue contact the tech that came out to perform the work! So be aware that the front office staff in my opinion are simple minded dispatchers and could care less about customer service, quality work performed, or warranty support after the sale! Here are the details of my very disappointing service on my leaky water heater, the second one on four years which both were AO Smith water heaters! Jeremy at Boyd replaced both. The second water heater was still under warranty and here's where the problem started, after the installation Jeremy completely let me down with his guidance on how to claim a warrenty with AO Smith. His recommendation on how to deal with the warranty claim was totally wrong! His bad advice actually voided my warrenty! Jeremy cost me over $650 with his bad advice! We had a mysterious leak and at the recommendation of the company installing our pond we called Boyd. There service response was incredible. I received an immediate call back and scheduled an appointment. Zeb showed up right on time, listened to the problem and then checked out all sources of the leak. None were found in our system. Since we are in a HOA it appears the leak is in their line. Zeb said there was no charge for the consultation. I did want to separate the HOA water from mine and hired them to install two valves. Again Zeb was right on time and did the job; cleaning up everything. Zeb was very professional forthright in discussing costs, problems etc. I can highly recommend Zeb and Boyd Plumbing. Boyd is definitely the best choice for plumbing in the Sacramento area. I have used them twice and they have saved me thousands in comparison to other plumbers and I received exceptional service. Stephen is a pleasure to work with, extremely knowledgeable, and very friendly. I used them initially because I could not find a plumber to clean my area drains. I had another plumber come to attempt and failed. That's when I called Boyd and Stephen showed up. He quickly cleaned the drains and repaired my sump pump. Had he not repaired my garage would have flooded. I was so pleased I had Stephen back to install a clean out and flush my sewer line of root intrusion. He not only found a clean out, but with the inspection found that the other quotes that I had were not correct and were cash grabs by other companies. We recently purchased a new home with a basement. We have been dealing with the company that the homeowners insurance sent out, and left with a flooded basement. I was told the pump was in working order but after a storm we were left with a scene from titanic on more than one occasion. The last company told me I needed a new basin for the sump pump and they do not do that work. I found Boyd through yelp and they were friendly, fast, and honest. Elite Plumbing left us with a sump pump too long for the area. It was never going to work because it would never get to the level where it would register that the space is flooded. Other reviews have mentioned Eric, and indeed he is courteous, knowledgeable, and a savvy yet honest business guy. Boyd doesn't seem to treat camera inspections or roto-rooting as loss-leaders like many other plumbers do, so while they aren't cheap I am happy to pay more for a more honest assessment of my plumbing situation without alot of hard-sell pressure.
