This week at the Boxcar Café I enjoyed
1. Cream of broccoli soup and cheesy egg sandwich
2. Chicken waffle sandwich
What you get is simple homemade food with good ingredients. The dishes are attractively presented but without pretence. Portions are moderate in size: not huge but enough for most people for lunch.
The menu is not large but suitable for a small cafe like this. There are several sweets available for after the meal, as well as hot and cold beverages.
The ambience is generally quiet and peaceful; there is seating for around 30.
Staff are competent and friendly and happy to accommodate.
Four stars because five might be more appropriate for a high-end place. The Boxcar does not pretend to be what it isn't, but does breakfast and lunch very well, at modest prices. Definitely worth several return visits. And no, I'm not given to hyperbole... read more
