The place was clean and well organized and my instructor asked many questions to get a feel of my condition. I was surprised to be subjected to so many reps and sets to different exercises on the first visit. The next few days I was hurting and not happy with that fact. My hope was to learn what exercises I needed and the proper way to execute them rather than over doing it on my first visit. Decided to forget about traveling to a PT location and come up with my own exercise plan and perform them at my own pace in the comfort of my home which I've done since that first visit and it's working out well. Each therapist has their own style and unique personality. Unfortunately, for me I had to return for physical therapy. Upon my return to the Bowie location, I was assigned to a new physical therapist. I do not attest to having a simple profile. Not only did I arrive with muscular/skeletal challenges, I had also recently been diagnosed with a blood-clot in my lung. I was leery, at first, to work with a new provider, not liking change. My apprehension quickly subsided. Mr. Richard B, is a phenomenal physical therapist. Although new to ATI, he comes with a wealth of experience and knowledge. Richard believes in a holistic approach to treatment. He listened to my concerns, asked clarifying and pertinent questions. Post my evaluation, he explained the results of his assessment, and the treatment plan to rehabilitate and improve my current state. Richard made note of my diagnosis and treatment history, followed up with my doctor and created a treatment plan that would not jeopardize my wellbeing. His thoroughness made me feel at ease, safe and in competent hands. There are many factors that come into play when one experiences an injury, is post-surgery, or the issue is chronic. I have experienced each of these circumstances, and know that the work is not only physical, but emotional. Treatment does not just include someone directing you to complete an exercise that is difficult, causes you discomfort, and is difficult, and then applying heat or ice to the body part. I will not say that traditional therapy wouldn't have worked, but she felt that the warmth of the water and resistance would make a more gentle experience for me....and she was right! When I injured my right knee.....I did the heat and ice thing, eventually getting it to the point of being able to walk, but it still wasn't right. I happened to remember how great the therapy was, emailed my doctor for a referral and made a pretty quick set of appointments. It's been a month and what I can tell you is that a pretty serious pain is now gone. Naturally, everyone is going to have a different experience with how much time it take to heal, but I am so very thrilled with where I am! Charlie, Ralph and all the other great people there are just fantastic! I would recommend Aquavit to anyone looking for rehabilitation or care for pain. Definitely a happy patient!
