When I was a youngster Paul K., I would spend what felt like eons at that damn mall, pretending I wasn't with my mom, shopping in stores that sold dumb clothes in sizes that never fit me, and wanting to be almost anywhere else (even the Whitehall Mall). After college, I dabbled in online shopping, which always felt to me a little like ordering GrubHub. The pictures look amazing, but then the stuff shows up at your door and you're often disappointed. Sure, I no longer had to go to the mall (any mall!) and I found clothing brands I liked, but the fit was usually off and, also like GrubHub, who is really going to send back an order you don't like? So when assembly88 launched during the early Downtown Allentown revitalization it was like it opened for me. Santo, the owner, had not only curated a varied and extensive selection of really cool clothing, he had placed it all in a space that was everything The Lehigh Valley Mall is not: welcoming, organized, and low-pressure. During the many years I've been shopping here, I've discovered brands like United by Blue, Gitman Bros., and Vuori. Their sales are frequent. The inventory is always fresh. And when Santo isn't there, his staff knows their stuff. And if all that sounds like I love shopping shop for clothes now, well, I'll admit that that's partly true. It reminded me of a local, boutique version of Anthropologie / West Elm but so much better. We left with an incredibly unique light - an old school camera with an exposed light bulb on top of it. We have been looking for some unique pieces for our new apartment, and were thrilled with this find. There must have been another 30 or so uniquely styled lights - made from materials like cigar boxes, old factory parts and of course cameras. Each one was so different - no two were alike! Plus they were created by a local electrician. There was also a lot of unique home goods and decorations that were upcycled from a variety of old steel factory machinery and parts - a cornerstone of the city of Bethlehem. I loved the steel lights they were so beautiful. The jewelry was amazing. Most of the things in this shop are one of a kind and are made with the steel made in this town. Very steam punkish but they do have alot of refined pieces you know you can't live without. They also have a web site if you can't get there. I will definitely check that out. Something has changed at this Walgreens' location--staff was super friendly!…read more Though most convenient, this has not been my favorite Walgreens to patronize. Mostly because staff has historically been indifferent at best, downright rude at worst. Recently, however, on two separate occasions, I've found staff members--including at least one manager--to be warm, friendly, and helpful. On the first occasion, discounts from my Walgreens' rewards weren't reflecting on my bill. This is not unusual, as it seems to happen frequently at all businesses that use rewards. Oftentimes, employees get frustrated and flustered (as do the people in the growing lines behind me) and employees get mad at me, as if it's my fault. The manager was called over and calmly remedied the issue, including calling a second cashier to handle other customers. On the second occasion, I must admit I was in a bad mood, so when the sale item I wanted wasn't on the shelf (even though the online system said it should have been), I was annoyed. The young man stocking shelves was, unfortunately for him, the first employee I encountered. In my scariest mom voice, I asked why the items that were supposed to be there were not. He used his handheld gizmo and said there should be more in the back and went to check. I wanted two, he came back with one, and apologized for the computer system being wrong. I immediately felt guilty because, of course, it wasn't his fault and this intelligent young man killed me with kindness. I thanked him, he told me to have a nice day, and I apologized for being crabby. He accepted my apology with grace. A new Walgreens, indeed.

I've taken my bike here on several occasions to get it tuned up, fixed, or for whatever cycling accoutrement I might need. The service has always been speedy and efficient. There has only been one time that I've had to bring my bike back there to fix a problem a second time. What happened was that I my front tire went flat for some reason that I wasn't aware of. I brought it in, and they replaced the tube. I went out, rode it, and the tire wen flat again. Long story short, they overlooked a tiny sliver of metal that was jabbing into the tube. Thankfully, though, they removed the shard and the inner tube at no extra charge. While they have great service, they also have a really nice selection of equipment. They carry just about every style of bike that would make sense. They also have nice selection of just about everything you need for your bike. The selection of goods isn't the thing that makes it good. The service is what makes this place great.
