Berlin Vom Princehaus the German Rottweiler
Michael K.

Love my people at Boulevard Veterinary on Armitage for taking good care of my faithful companion Berlin Vom Princehaus the German Rottweiler!

The front desk has gone above and beyond to sort out a prescription glitch I had with Chewy. They're great with my anxious dog, and yes he is a pandemic pup. I'm so glad that we can be with our little guy for his appt and have been able to meet the team of caring vets. We've been going here since we move to the neighbor hood and they've been so patient with him. Sometimes he doesn't want to get out of the car and a tech will help us. Lately he's been getting out of the car all by himself bc he sees this place as a happy place. Thanks for keeping his happy tail wagging.

Dr. Cruz is a goddess! I trust her completely to care for my little brown angels. And the entire staff at Logan Square is completely divine! Obrigada! Thank you!

I used to work at a animal hospital, so when it came to time to pick a new vet, I was picky to say the least. I am so happy I ended up at Blvd. I have a 9 year old small mix breed who has been going here for over 2 years. She's been fairly healthy, but does struggle with anxiety and isn't a easy dog to handle. I am blown away by Blvds approach with her. They take their time with her and take extra measures to prevent her from getting stressed out. This is something I haven't seen other animal hospitals do. Even when she's in the back for a blood draw, she comes out so much more relaxed than she did at other animal hospitals. They have also recommended some light anxiety medication for stressful events that other vets never told me about. They are also so thorough! She has a few fatty masses that so far are benign. They've done a excellent job in monitoring them over the years. This year we got a puppy during quarantine. Even with the stress of the pandemic, they were wonderful to work with. It wasn't difficult to get him for his puppy check ups. He was also born with a heart murmur. The doctors were so informative on this issue and were very transparent about what expect if he didn't grow out of it. Luckily he did! The prices are fair for the area and the quality service you receive! We love Blvd and will continue to use them for all of our animals medical needs! :)

The cat!

When I asked her back, she sighed, stated it's been a rough week, and shared that her kid has been sick and subsequently got her sick. I asked her if she was currently actively sick, and she responded, "Yeah, but it's just a little cold." Her demeanor was lighthearted, and she chuckled at points while sharing this information. Surprised, I asked her if she had a higher quality mask she could wear, as she was wearing a loose surgical mask and we were in a small, enclosed space. She eventually, briefly, wore an N95 when circling back. Thinking of other clients and patients who would unknowingly come into contact with her while she is very likely still contagious, I recommended that she continue wearing the higher quality mask. She responded with, "O.K., thank you." in a flippant and condescending tone on her way out of the exam room. I touched base with the front desk staff and asked if it was possible to add a note to my file that my dog never be seen by Dr. Fermoso again. The staff member said yes, absolutely, and apologized, the latter to which I replied that it wasn't the staff member who did anything wrong. The staff member was kind and helpful, updated my dog's file, and wished me a better day ahead. We take our pets to Pets First to be seen by those who take science and patient care seriously. The dissonance of being infected through close contact, acknowledging the hardship it has created, and then heading into work to cavalierly perpetuate the same cycle by potentially infecting others is not behavior patients and clients should be forced to deal with when seeing a medical professional. Dr. Fermoso is not a veterinarian I would recommend to anyone hoping for quality care for their pets, and her actions imply a wider culture of acceptance within the clinic that cause me to question the integrity and trustworthiness of Pets First overall.

Dr. Ojala was his treating veterinarian and, frankly, was as informative AND compassionate as they come. In addition to his grief, Milo had a host of medical issues. This determination necessitated tests and bloodwork, but no exams, labs, or workups that would have been unexpected for an elderly cat who was slowly deteriorating. I was given a number of options and never felt pressured into making any treatment decisions that weren't in the best interest of my cat. Additionally, after Milo's cat scan, Dr. Mistar immediately followed up with my cat's results, when Dr. Ojala was out of town. She sent very detailed emails, clearly written, explaining my cat's diagnoses and his treatment options. She also made herself available to answer any of my questions and to discuss options. I recognized, even at the time, that she did not have to do that. I really appreciated the time she spent communicating with me, recognizing the news she was sharing was grim. I ultimately decided, several weeks later, that it was in my Milo's best interest to let him go. South Loop coordinated my cat's transition. Dr. Ojala was with my son and me, as we said goodbye to our dear Milo. I can't say enough how much I appreciated the South Loop team. About 2 weeks ago, I received a personal, handwritten note from Dr. Ojala sending me her condolences about Milo. It was kind, beautiful, and unexpected. I am saving that card with my cat's keepsakes. If I'm at a point when I can take another cat into my home, his veterinarian care WILL happen at South Loop Animal Hospital.

The place had a fresh scent, was very clean and uncluttered. Customer service was fair and parking is private (no-pay & metered street parking available). They do not offer pet care packages for new or existing clients for any preventative care, and they do not offer upfront quotes for basic services. The receptionist was really helpful but kept providing me low-cost options as if I was insisting the prices were high. I was slightly offended and let her know I live across the street and did not need lower prices. I just wanted to know if they provided quotes for services upfront if I knew what vaccines I needed for my puppy. I am unsure if I was pre-judged or misunderstood so I did not make it past the initial interaction to review the services.

I was extremely anxious and worried that whatever she ingested could seriously harm her. From the moment we arrived, the team was more than supportive. They even fell in love with her, which helped ease my nerves. What truly set them apart was the post-visit care. During recovery, being able to email back and forth with the doctor including sending photos of anything questionable was a game changer. Responses were quick, thoughtful, and reassuring. We have a regular day-to-day vet, but this is now officially our puppy's ER/Urgent Care.

They were able to get me in on a weekend. One thing I like in particular is that they have their own parking lot. It is small but most places around that location you have to find street parking. This clinic is also responsive via email, and has helped me order flea meds through Chewy. My refill ran out and they made me schedule an appointment. In the past my vetinarians had no problem giving me a few pills to hold my dog over until her appointment so she didn't wet herself. But this time they didn't do that. So I went to my appointment the very next day (less than 24 hours after my call) which was scheduled for 2:30pm, we got there early. At 2:46pm I asked the receptionist if they knew when someone would see us, they simply said no, without even trying to find out. At 2:53pm the Manager Manny came in to say someone would be with me shortly but it wasn't their fault because I was early, they somehow had me scheduled for 3pm even though I showed them my email confirmation for 2:30pm. I was finally seen after more than 30 minutes of waiting. After I spoke to the vet who did not seem to know my dogs medical records, they thought the scar on her leg was from an ACL surgery (which she never had), it was from cancer. They were over 30 minutes late and couldn't even read her medical records! Then the vet knocked a glass jar on the ground and tried to move us to another exam room before sweeping it up, I actually had to hask them to clean the broken glass on the floor before letting my dog walk through it. Then towards the end of the exam I noticed a sign on the wall obstructed by fake flowers and a dog treat jar that stated exams are recorded with video and AI is used to assist them, and if you want to opt out of the AI you had to let them know prior to your exam, but you can't read the warning until your exam has already started. When I asked for the video to be deleted the veterinarian said I should have said something before, when I pointed out the fact that I didn't know about the warning until the exam had already begun she got upset, raised her voice and said they'd delete it amd ahe stormed out of the exam room and slamed the door. I asked the incredibly rude manager Manny who I could reach out to about my experience, he sais it was a corporate owned facility. Like that was an excuse to be unprofessional and rude. I would never recommend this place! Edit: Village West Vet corporate tried to blame me in their response to my negative review. They were rude, unprofessional, unsafe and uninformed. They told me I couldn't receive my prescription until bloodwork was done. After I left I noticed I didn't have blood work paperwork, yet I had my prescription so I called back. They said it could take up to 48 hours to get the results, yet had no problem sending me home with a controlled substance which cost much more in their office than online through Chewy. If you don't won't to deal with a corporate owned vet with no feelings in the West Town area of Chicago, I recommend Ukrainian Village Veterinary Center, owned by Dr. Danylo Butenko, DVM, CVA, an independent vetinarian.
