Missing a few things that would take it from good to great. The first of those is friendlier staff. We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon. There was no line. There was no reason to be so gruff. Sandwiches are good - meat, tomatoes, veggies, cheese, all fresh. Focaccia is just decent, and the sandwich needs a spread of some sort - pesto? Good olive oil? For now, it's just bread with ingredients. Expensive, but generous portions. Finally, the card reader is set to automatically take a 10 percent tip - which is robbery. The menu is your typical deli fare but you get to pick the type of bread which can make things a little interesting. I always waffle between the focaccia and olive bread and end up going with the multigrain (call me a coward). They also have salads and vegetarian sandwiches like the grilled eggplant, mozz/tomato/arugula, and bresaola. I have heard whispers that the monkey bread is amazing but have yet to try it. For college students, value often takes priority over quality and I am ashamed to admit I have, on occasion, considered heading to the Subway next door over instead of paying for a smaller sandwich at Bottino. Luckily for me though, I have yet to succumb to these moments of weakness. The sandwiches at Bottino are amazing! I've been around this area several times before/after a gallery day and been desperately searching for a cheap meal. Now, I know to add this place to my regular rotation. If you come around lunch time, the line can get kind of crazy, but they've got a system down and process orders fairly quickly. In fact, I was worried I wouldn't be able to make a decision on what to order before it was my turn. Luckily, it seems that the sandwiches here are great no matter what you choose. Even the ones that sound simple (you might be thinking "what possible turkey sandwich could be good enough to justify an $8 price tag") are great. The condiments meld perfectly with the deli meats and the focaccia - OH MY GOD the focaccia!! I swear, this was some of the best bread I've ever had. It's so fluffy and airy and I've never understood how my roommate can just snack on bread alone, but now I know. I am so happy I discovered Bottino. I live half a block from them and also work from home so they pretty much feed me everyday for lunch. And I'm so glad they do! I usually order for pickup and get a pickup number since they can get pretty busy where the line will go out of the store. The woman who works the register is a machine! She is takiing care of 5 people at once. Everything is so fresh, just walking in the store makes me happy. The smell of fresh bread and the site of cheeses, meats and salads behind the glass deli counter makes you feel like you're in a small Italian village. As for the food, it speaks for itself. The ingredients are always fresh. My favorites so far are: The Chef Salad: Mixed Greens, Smoked Turkey & Smoked Proscuitto with Asiago, Avocado, Tomato, Olives & Vinaigrette #15: Grilled Chicken & Avocado, Herbal Mayo (yum!), Lettuces & Tomato I also have to agree with many of the other reviewers here, their sandwiches are large so I eat half oen day and save the other half for lunch the next day (unless my boyfriend beats me to it!). You lose a star because I just wish I could eat in! But then they'd have to change their name. The bread is what you be able to get everywhere, it's fresh and there is about 5 different varieties. The ingredients are fresh and flavorful without being unhealthy and loaded with mayo. I'm a sucker for the #12 on Multi-grain. All of the sandwiches are around $7-$8 The latte is smooth as caramel. If you deserve a treat for a hard days work or you need/want to suck up to someone grab a bitter chocolate brownie. FABULOUS! I am very disappointed with the delivery I received yesterday. After ordering and giving many recommendations to the "take out Bottino" for years. On seamless they charge a $6 delivery fee! So I decided to call myself to order over phone (since I work right down the street). Thinking the fee wouldn't be applied. My $12 sandwich still came out to be $18 and some change. So they clearly still add the same delivery fee. I asked specifically for olive oil dressing on the side. When the bag came. Only the sandwich and a single napkin were inside. No dressing. Due to me being at work, I was extremely busy and could not leave. I call back the restaurant and nicely explain they made a mistake and forgot my dressing. The lady who answered the phone asked if I could come get it... and I say "I am working and am not able". After some side chatter with workers. She picks up to say "someone can bring it, can you give a few dollars?" This question confused me since I had already paid a $6 delivery fee and tipped the delivery man. I explain to her. She rudely says "fine I will have them bring it". And hangs up. I wait and wait... hours later. Still no delivery. And they never came... Normally I would never be a Karen. Back then I used to pound one of their Roast Turkey Sandwiches on Multigrain Bread with Sun-Dried Tomatoes, Mayonnaise and Arugula ($7.25) and a large Vanilla Chai Latte in a single sitting while the other girls ("gallerinas," to use a slightly offensive term) picked at their salads. It takes streamlining to a new level because there is nothing to do inside the 50 square foot ordering area other than look, order, wait, pay and receive your food. There are countless sandwich and salad options and from the look and taste of everything, these options are freshly prepared even if already boxed for your quick enjoyment. I have to agree this is one of the best, if not the best, sandwich places in NYC. I had the #3 (speck, mozzarella, tomato, basil) and #11 (grilled egg plant). Both were great, but I especially liked #3. The bread itself is fresh and tasty. This is what all other NY delis should be serving. Bottino is officially the 'mayor' of my debit-card transactions. Between morning coffees, lunches, and the occasional 3pm cookie run, I've gotten a little swipe-happy at this spot. I hate traditional mayonnaise-y tuna salad, but the Tuscan Tuna is a whole other animal. Light and tangy with green beans, red onion, and capers. Its healthy, filling, delicious, and occupies my belly at least once a week. Other standouts are the grilled eggplant sandwich with goat cheese and a host of other veggies, the beet salad (the beetier the better for this reviewer), and they mix up a mean skim-latte. I used to work on the west side for five years. I'm not kidding when I say that I went to Bottino's for lunch at least once a week. It's THAT good. My favorite was the #7, bresolla, havarti, and arugala with light olive oil on focaccia. It's unbelievable! The guys behind the counter are super rude. Think Soup Nazi from Seinfeld. Yeah, it's that bad. Even after five years they refused to acknoweldge me as a regular. I will admit I purely decided to try this place out b/c of the ratings on yelp and am happy to say that I was not disappointed. There was a bit of a line as I got there around 12:30 but it moved pretty quickly. I ordered the tuna sandwiched and chose the olive bread. Unfortunately when it came time to pay I looked closely at the bill,which was higher than I had expected and low and behold the cashier had charged me $.75 more. I know, it's only $.75 but I really don't like when merchants make those "errors" -- always in their favor. I pointed it out and after faining confusion, she efunded me the difference. Bottino is in a great location. The High Line entrance is just a block away so I usually get a salad or sandwich to-go and eat it on the High Line. It's great, perfect for my hour lunch break. I've been here couple times but I've only tried the #9 sandwich (Smoked Turkey, herbal mayo, tomato, greens). I just really liked how it tasted but I do want to try the 15: grilled chicken & avocado, herbal mayo, lettuce, tomato next. Their ingredients are fresh, love the greens and herbal mayo. Definitely recommend the sandwich over salad. But salad was pretty good as well. Portions are great, nice people, quick service. read more

I used to work in the Chelsea area and, trust the reviews, THERE ARE NO PLACES TO EAT IN CHELSEA. Thank God for Bottino's Take Out. It's an oasis for West Chelsea people. It's a simple and small sandwich place that serves fresh food. But beware of the line during the summertime as sometimes it takes us 30 solid minutes to get our food. Though, it is a joy to watch them prepare the food. They're very efficient at what they do... either that or overstaffed. Anyway, the menu board is shown on one side of the wall so it's pretty easy to navigate your way through because they do explain the ingredients well on them. Recommendation: I usually get the 1, 2 or the #3 sandwich and ALWAYS get the bread pudding. Especially if they have CHOCO bread pudding... Coffee is good too. read more

OK, not great. If you're nearby then it's worth a try; but would never (again) go out of my way to specifically come here. The place is a big mess. Line loops whenever it pleases and there is no rhyme or reason to how the process is organized. A guy from way behind the counter is constantly screaming "next" and every customer has to scream their order over other people. It gets annoying after about 5 orders. Then once you pay and if your sandwich is not ready yet, you're yet again standing aimlessly by a wall waiting until someone calls you, who knows when. They don't take names so I guess let's hope you didn't order the same thing somebody else did. Also their online process are not updated and are misleading. I work in Chelsea and don't get a lunch break. I usually bring lunch, but sometimes order from Bottino. Compared to other options, it's slightly more reasonable and good food. Is it anything special though? Certainly not. I only order for convenience. Today I had an extremely unpleasant experience and will likely never order again. I understand that they're busy, but their customer service is simply terrible. When you call you can hardly hear them, due to the noise and their speedy talking. They're unpatient and quick to get you off the phone. They messed up my order and when I called back to complain they claimed it was completely my fault and weren't the least bit sympathetic. I hope they get some competition because they don't deserve to be so busy. Oh! And one time they mis-delivered food to my office. When I, very nicely, told the delivery guy he needed to go across the street he gave me so much sass! I just saved him the trouble of dealing with an angry customer. Fairly standard Italian style deli sandwiches. I wasn't too impressed with their baguettes, perhaps a sourdough roll or foccacia would've been better options. Their prosciutto was tasty though, as was their mozzarella. If you couldn't tell, I ordered the very last sandwich on the list. Supposedly it had some type of dressing over the arugula, but I really couldn't taste it. The chicken, avocado that my friend got looked tasty, I'm going to try that next time. I used to (surprise surprise) intern around here, and as other people previously mentioned, everyone at the gallery would order lunch from here (correction, I would order lunch for everyone at the gallery from here)! Honestly the most authentic Italian sandwhiches I have had in New York. I lived in Italy, and this is as good as it gets- and thats saying a lot! The ingredients are all fresh, their mozzarella is the perfect texture, the prosciutto is not super thick- it is thin as it should be, the avocados are always the perfect shade of green, and the arugula is super crisp . I've probably tried most of the items on the menu, but the standout ones are: 1. PROSCIUTTO di Parma and ASIAGO, Tomato, Arugula and Olive Oil - hearty, and you can taste the olive oil which is buttery and so tasty! 2. Smoked TURKEY, Herbal Mayo, Lettuces and Tomatoes - Very refreshing taste, perfectly crafted. 3. SMOKED PROSCIUTTO and MOZZARELLA, Tomato and Arugula - Traditional and great combination of ingredients, arugula gives it a great kick. 4. Baked HAM and BRIE, Honey Mustard, Lettuce and Tomato - Brie is the ultimate comfort food- hearty and refreshing all at once! I recommend the baguette bread- it has the right amount of crunch and also equals more sandwich square footage. Also, the herbal mayo is the most refreshing and delicious mayo I've ever tasted. I would often stand bewildered, unable to decide between a sandwich with prosciutto, mozzarella, or the herbal mayo. I've worked a few blocks away for decades, must have gotten sandwiches here 50 - 75 times over the years, my company also orders for the staff during occasions and holidays as well. every time I've ever gone in there it has looked like the most unhappiest staff around...i would regularly order 3 sandwiches, a salad, a side salad and fresh tea and take that home...used to be a somewhat decent price, you could get that for around $50.00 walk in or with a $5 tip for delivering 5 blocks. now you order the same order and its well over $80.00 plus tip and a delivery fee for less quantity and quality. this has been like this for a couple of years now with only worse service and bland and skimpy sandwiches. pretty crappy how this place treats a neighborhood that has supported it for so long. way too many chances given. treat your patrons better or close up shop as what you offer now is inferior in quality and value. a shame read more

Not to be confused with Bottino restaurant (or ordering take-out from the restaurant), Bottino Take-out is a small but friendly sandwich, and salad cafe two doors down from the main restaurant. I though it best to differentiate Bottino Take-Out from Bottino Resturant While the location of the cafe pushes the West Chelsea borders (10th between 24th and 25th), the cafe was an awesome find this Saturday after a long bike ride. I live in the 555 west condo's on 23rd Street. We lack caf variety and its hard to find a quick take-out spots that are within walking distance. (Seamless is getting boring!!!!!!!!!!) Empire Diner is tricky about when they offer take-out or delivery, the Half King has great burgers but the wait is a problem. The closest reasonable grocery/cafe is on 23rd and 9th which is a far to walk after a long bike ride has plain jane sandwiches. Brownstein is the closest option (bottom on my building) but I like variety and hate being limited to a shop that is perpetually closed on Sundays. Thus, I'm pretty pumped about having a great sandwich and salad cafe option for Sunday (and Saturdays) that offering homemade sandwiches. The food is a nice blend traditional and more modern Italian sandwich options with prosiutto, salami, mozzarella, sliced pork loin, baked ham and brie, bresola and peccorine ... its a long list. Most sandwiches are offered on your choice of wheat, 7-grain, focaccia, and baguettes. I went with the slice pork loin and wasabi sandwich. The portion was ridiculous with plenty of pork, veggies and bread in every bite. If you dislike big bread sandwiches, I'd avoid the wheat option. Bottino Take-out also offers a variety of traditional salads - greek, caesar, chicken, etc but the mini marinated carrot/beat salad option looked (and tasted) better. They also offer a breakfast/brunch option with a variety of pastries and coffees. The cafe is a take-out spot with no seats. Pick-up, and enjoy a quick bite nearby at Chelsea Piers. I suggest the portion of the pier that crosses 25th street. Its slightly above Chelsea Piers and is the new home of the Frying Pan; plenty of benches and outdoors patio chairs for all. Two points for the food - selection, taste and price. One more point for being open on Sunday and close to my apartment. read more

I cannot believe that one of my favorite sandwiches of all time is vegetarian. The grilled eggplant with goat cheese, arugula and roasted red pepper (aka number 11, which I get on focaccia) tastes positively decadent.
