Checking out the Christmas lights every holiday season always brings me joy. A family home display…read morethat should not be missed is the Soflo Christmas house in Hollywood near the Seminole guitar hotel. The family who own the home moved there in 2001. Each year they added a bit more to their holiday decorations. In 2006 they purchased their first control box to synchronize the lights to music. The display grew and they have been featured in the Miami Herald, South Florida Sun Sentinel, and on television. The Soflo Christmas house is on a corner so it is decorated to the nines on two sides with 50 inflatables, decorations, Christmas trees, and 250,000 lights synchronized to music every 30 minutes on the half hour and hour. During part of the show the inflatables are deflated to better see the lights. Although the show is free, the family that runs it accepts donations for St. Vincent de Paul food for the poor. An honorable mention goes to the house directly across the street that has the spirit too with a ton of lights and a yard full of inflatables. As my mother toddled in with her aide and me, another customer gave up the "waiting for someone forever" chair. Everyone inside the store shopping or otherwise was just as friendly, wearing masks and social distancing. A little quieter than usual, but still welcoming; the atmosphere was the same. Great fashionable, well stocked, and discerning selection she is known for. Clothes are still fairly priced. The selection is still classy and eclectic, "grown" woman clothes I like to say.

I was eager to visit the Crystal Cave Rock & Gem Shop to see what they had. There aren't too many places like this in my area and I think they have one of the best collections in Broward County. According to their website they are a family owned business that has been in business since 1972. They specialize "in mineral specimen, cut gemstones, cutting rough (for cabochon, and faceting), metaphysical tools, lapidary equipment, books, jewelry, and gifts." They also have fossils and petrified wood. Prices range from as little as $1 to many thousands of dollars. There was so much to look at, huge pieces of amethyst, colorful geodes, and loose mixed gems. They had my favorite peacock copper ore. I also loved their jewelry, they had some nice gem necklaces for only $10. Perfect for the next time I need a gift. There was a lot of staff around eager to help if you had a question. They are open Tuesday through Friday from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Saturday from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm and we are closed Sunday and Monday. Come check them out.

Most places were already ran through but Google said they might have some V-Day gifts/decor so I was desperate and made my way over. They truly had such unique items that you don't typically find in other stores. Because they have a wedding aisle, I got some miscellaneous things from that section too and curated a box for my loved one. There were a lot of items on sale too so I didn't spend over $50 on everything. Luckily, the store wasn't packed so i was in & out relatively quickly. I'll definitely be coming back for some home decor as this store is HUGE and caters to many different aesthetics.
