Ultimately, I decide to come back a few minutes later to return it. This didn't feel right at all. I wanted to give them my feedback in the moment but decided to call after I left. As a brown male amongst all white woman, it just didn't seem like the best idea. I want to say that this wasn't on purpose but it's hard not to take it that way. I will never shop at this place again!

I love the aesthetic of Fermob bistro set, and when I saw this store carried more Fermob items, I decided to pay a visit. The store is filled to the brim with charming items you'd want to take home, including some apparel, jewelry and bags. I went back the next day with my partner, and we bought some outdoor rocking chairs, a loveseat and some side tables, as well as a cozy alpaca blanket to use in our yard. They were having their 20% off anniversary sale June 8-, so I feel very happy about the shopping on Saturday. The reason I say "maybe" to the "would you recommend?" question has to do with my personal experience on Friday, when there were fewer (2?) employees and also fewer (2) customers in the store. Make of it what you will. As a POC and someone who walked in there in some athleisure getup with no purse (just the phone), I felt like some of the staff may judge a book by its cover. I obviously seemed interested in the furniture, tried sitting on them, curiously took photos of them to show my husband, but until I took the initiative to say hi, the employees acted like they wouldn't have any time to spare for me (2 employees talking to a white lady, 2 customers). I purchased 2 sets of Graf Lantz coasters and a bag that day. I was asked if I was in their system/reward program, but at no time was I asked to be added to the system. Also: I only found out about the anniversary sale starting the next day, because I overheard them telling the other customer and asked about it. (If I hadn't overheard, they might have lost a $3K sale.) Only after I went back with my (white) husband in a better outfit, I feel like I got more eager help. Again this was just my personal experience on a particular day, so your experience would of course vary depending on your/store's circumstances. It wasn't an overt profiling, but more like a series of small subconscious (or conscious) choices out of habit. To a person who's experienced this kind of dismissive behaviors from many a storekeeper, it may seem more like micro aggression. On the positive note, after my bigger purchase, I earned enough points to get a $100 discount! I feel like this is a pretty good reward program. I wish I could figure out a way to use this discount online/have things delivered, since I don't live close to the store.

However, I would think return customers would be your bread and butter. I will not be returning as a result of this return policy. (Pun fully intended.) In Tacoma, ties were $7 and that was too much for a used tie. I think even Good will is in the $3-$5 range. This location, ties were $4. A fair and reasonable price. I ended up buying a couple and both women I encountered were warm and friendly. I don't know what's going on it Tacoma that they are charging Nordstrom rack prices for donated items, but When I finally hit the Redmond location, It will be clear if these places are reasonable or reckless.

Since the new ownership, the goods in the store can be found so many places. Nothing feels unique and the store now feels soulless. Almost all of the original staff have left under the new ownership. The website still claims that this is its focus, but in reality, very few of their items fit this description. I miss the old Alair, with soul, personality, warmth, kindness, and community at its core. It's a shame that under new ownership the business lost all of that. Update: Alair has petitioned for my review to be taken down from Yelp because they didn't like that I made a negative review-I have reached out to Yelp petitioning that I didn't violate any terms.
