    miso soup
    Amy T.

Good late night sushi spot. The service was excellent, the ordering system was efficient and the workers were kind. They gave us some free apple juice and calpico while we were waiting for our order! Very aesthetic interior with a lot of tables. I enjoyed the hawaii roll, ocean breeze roll, and umi delight roll. I usually am very strongly against cream cheese in sushi but the jalapeño complemented it perfectly. I ordered the UCI roll because zot zot zot but unfortunately it was my least favorite roll. The sweet potato and the asparagus are just not very appealing as sushi ingredients in my opinion. The miso soup tasted like water, I've never seen such clear miso broth. Maybe it's because we came right before closing, i'm sure they would have replaced it if I asked but I didn't want to bother them after last call.

A hidden gem for Japanese food near UCI! I absolutely love the décor here--it's elegant, romantic, and makes dining such a pleasant experience. It's great for a family meal with kids, but also perfect for a girls' night out or a date. Here's what we tried and loved Sashimi Platter: Salmon, tuna, yellowtail, sweet shrimp... thick cuts, super fresh, buttery, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Hawaiian Roll: Shrimp tempura, eel, crunchy tempura flakes--every bite was a surprise! Salmon Hand Roll: Flavorful sauce and plenty of salmon--must-try for salmon lovers. Unagi Rice Bowl: The eel was cut into a star shape (so cute and unique!) with generous toppings. A great choice if dining solo. Appetizers: Crispy fried tofu, edamame, and sweet potato fries--our kids couldn't stop eating them! You can order à la carte or go for the all-you-can-eat option: * À la carte is more refined, perfect for a light meal. * AYCE is the way to go if you're really hungry! Kids under 3 eat free Ages 3-12: $19.95 ‍ 12+ years: Weekday lunch $34.95, dinner & weekends $39.95 The food is plated beautifully--Instagram-worthy shots with zero effort. Even when dining with kids, you'll walk away with some gorgeous photos. Overall: Botan Sushi not only serves fresh and delicious food, but also offers a cozy, romantic, and family-friendly atmosphere. Definitely one of the best choices near UCI for group gatherings or date nights. Can't wait to come back with friends!

Lovely and spacious sushi restaurant with great service. I found a social media discount deal that we took advantage of today. I was trying to decide between a handful of delicious rolls, and I decided to go with the Hawaiian one with a perfect amount of spicy with jalepeno. I look forward to trying more!

Arrived around 9:15pm. Barely anyone inside so figured service would be fast. Took a while to order. They let you sit anywhere you like. Once ordered, food came out within 15 min or so depending what you got. Ambiance gives kawaii aesthetic as it was cute / girly with the pink and florals. Music was chill and easy going. TBH wrote this review to get the complimentary drink but also did my due diligence to give an honest review. I tried the peach oolong tea. When I received it, it was a large cup but it wasn't cold. Tasted sweet but not as refreshing... Noticed they offered ayce but was thinking it's probably better on a day when I can try lunch ($32.99). Also the guests that were there weren't really doing ayce so I was hesitant. For the signature bento box, it came with a couple slices of dill pickle, picked veggies, stir fried cabbage, California rolls, boiled egg, rice, and the protein of choice, in this case botan fried chicken. The chicken had a lot of flavor and was crispy. Everything else was mid or average. I've had better bento boxes but I did come to try since it was a spot near campus. Yo girl was still hungry so decided to try one of their rolls. Ordered the Ichi roll which reminded me of Alaska roll with lemon on it. So if you're familiar with Alaska roll (California roll with fresh salmon on top), then that's what it tasted like. Towards the end, the owner was kind to let me try their honey boba which was sweet and soft ! I added it to my drink and it made it so much better !! Hopefully next time I'll have a better experience. For those of you who haven't been here before, it can be a spot if you're looking for Japanese comfort food, that's open somewhat late (until 11pm), and are near UCI !

I came in for lunch AYCE for $35; it includes 4 orders of sashimi, it was so cutely presented! Warning, the orders come full size so I only made it two rounds. The botan chicken is OUTSTANDING. Must order, as well as the yellowtail sushi

Ambiance wise, the decor and the aesthetic of the restaurant is very kawaii to say the least. I went in during lunch time on a Saturday and got seated immediately. There was only one waiter working, but she was super nice and checked up on my party multiple times. As for the food, it was okay. Not bad but nothing special that stands out to me. Most of the rolls were pretty standard. I feel like the salmon could be more fresh, as you can see by its light color.

We came here to celebrate my birthday and it was such a great choice! The Happy Platter was the perfect size for our family of three. It was arranged beautifully and had a nice variety of options. We added a few other dishes and left feeling full and satisfied. Our server was wonderful. She was attentive, friendly, and welcoming. The service was fast, and she helped us choose the right rolls for our taste. Everything she suggested was delicious. We will definitely be back for another special night. I highly recommend this spot for both the food and the service!

This was very good, there is a lot of variety, and it was really delicious. The all you can eat is a great value and it was a lot of fun. The atmosphere was nice too.

This was a pretty good sushi spot! It was our first time coming, and the servers were patient with us while we decided what we wanted to order. The boat had a lot of options to choose from, and it was pretty filling for 4-5 people. Overall, I would say it's pretty chill and a great place to get sushi with friends or family!

I tried the Bento Tonkatsu box during lunch, and overall, it was a satisfying experience. The pork Tonkatsu was crispy with a nice balance of sweet and salty flavors. It came with a generous portion of cabbage, and a little bit of pickled greens (not sure what they are called), plenty of rice, and four California sushi rolls. It was filling! My only wish was for less cabbage and more variety in the sides. I'd give it a 7 out of 10 for the food. The restaurant itself was really pretty, and they offer a $1 drink with the Bento box, along with free refills. The atmosphere was a solid 9 out of 10, and service was exceptional. Worth a try if you're in the area!

Came here on a Monday evening to grab a bite before grocery shopping. Right when you walk in, you're greeted by the most kawaii decor. We almost thought we were at a Hello Kitty cafe of sorts. We were met with friendly servers who allowed us to take a seat anywhere. The menu here is pretty large, with all kinds of Japanese food items like ramen, sushi, and bento boxes. For two people, we got the bento box with tonkatsu which also came with rice, 4pc cali roll, boiled cabbage, seasoned egg, and some radish. For apps, we also go a salmon cut roll, and the dinosaurian egg. The tonkatsu was good, but very thin, although the sauce on it was delicious! The salmon roll was okay. The fish was a bit warm, but maybe it's because being wrapped in rice made it warm. The dinosaurian egg is an avocado stuffed with crab meat and spicy tuna, deep fried. In theory it sounded good, but because everything was deep fried, it just all kind of tasted mushy and warm. Food came out within 10-15 minutes of ordering with our app coming out last. Overall, it was a decent spot for an affordable meal. For three items and two people, we spent about $40 which included tip.

The offer that they are running and asked me to click redeem just for it not to be honored

Hi , I found out about this place on Facebook they have a promo going on of a 10$ off , so I went yesterday a Saturday night at 10:15 pm knowing that the restaurant opens till 11 pm , the restaurant was empty only one table ( I should have run away ) the person in the front said sorry we gonna close , I said ok can we get it to go ? Then he went inside asked another person came back with attitude and said okay ! I ordered a bento box , Sashimi and a roll and a drink, then asked the cashier to apply my offer the 10$ off , then she said ok your total is above 35$ that works , and then she told me click redeem on the offer that she can see it it's used !! then she went inside for lil came back she said let me call my manager she was on speaker then the manager said just tell them u can't do it and the manager should be here ! What a joke ! I told the cashier it's okay no worries ! Then here comes the crazy part ! The bento box felt like a left over food disgusting , sushi NOT EDIBLE !!!! the only thing was okay is Sashimi ! This place is empty a sat night for a reason ! I felt they just give me the left over rice in that bento ! If u guys run a promo to get costumers then u don't honor it what's the point !! I threw all the food in the bin next to the restaurant while the server watching inside ! And left home hungry !!! Really a refund would be appreciated !SCAM SCAM save your money and go elsewhere!

The food was Amazing! All of this different favors dancing on my taste buds. The place is cutesy. I feel like I'm in a Hello Kitty store. Very clean and open. Service was great. The server had to be the owner because he gave service with love. Just cool dude. Come on in and enjoy. Try the Dan Dan noodles and the Hawaiian roll.

Spent a good amount of time browsing Yelp and OpenTable to find a new spot to end the night. Came across TEN on yelp and I'm glad I found this spot. I made a reservation and was a little late due to a previous plan that ended a little later than expected. They sat us right away regardless and the owner greeted us. I asked Brian what his choice of drink is and the crazy thing is I scanned the menu and this drink caught my eye, which he then recommended as his go to, the Yuz it or Lose it. My girlfriend had the Lychee Rose. Started with the Chicken Gyoza and Japanese Nachos for appetizers and ordered the BG roll and Keoni roll. Throughout the night Brian would stop by and made conversation with us a couple times, super attentive and super friendly! At the end of the night Brian brought out a surprise Melted Chocolate Cake with Ice cream and chocolate drizzle & whipped cream on the side, along with what tasted like two shots that tasted like melon? I'm not sure but they were a 5/5! There is a good amount of seating inside and outside. The mix they had playing through the restaurant was absolute fire and it isn't too loud either, you can still hold a conversation without having to raise your voice. They have a parking structure and you'll receive a parking ticket which TEN validates. Yuz it or Lose it: 5/5 A very refreshing and balanced drink. Lychee Rose: 5/5 On the sweeter side but still balanced and the lychee garnish is a nice touch to end the drink Japanese Nachos: 5/5 I literally had to fight the urge to not share these with my girlfriend they're a party in your mouth. (We subbed the spicy tuna for regular tuna) Chicken Gyoza: 5/5 I'm normally a pork gyoza type of person but these were great, nice and juicy and whatever sauce they have at the bottom of the dish was bomb. I literally poured that sauce into my dipping cup instead of the soy sauce that is available BG Roll: 5/5 This roll is tasty and very fresh since there are no cooked items in/on it and the jalapeños on top are a nice touch as well, especially with a little of that sauce from the Chicken Gyoza dish Keoni Roll: 5/5 The eel sauce is a nice touch to this roll along with the jalapeño sauce that they spread on the plate. I really enjoyed our date night at this sushi restaurant! Overall I felt like the sushi was…read morehigh-quality and had a lot of unique flavors that kept things fresh and exciting. You won't find your typical rainbow rolls at this restaurant (I do love a good rainbow roll though). The rolls we ordered were the Snowflake (which was flavored with yuzu), the Lobster roll (which was so much more than a typical baked lobster/langostino roll), and the Are You Kidding Me roll, which was big on truffle flavor and came topped with fried onions. I thoroughly enjoyed the Snowflake roll. It had multiple types of fish inside, and the yuzu flavor added the perfect fresh citrusy touch. It also came dotted with a tiny bit of sriracha (or some other spice) but it was just a hint and it's easy to wipe off if you don't want any spice. The Lobster roll was the star of the show. I give it a 10/10 for presentation, and it was also the best tasting one in my opinion. It was plated with a shelled lobster tail, which looks visually pleasing, but the most impressive part was right before serving, the waitress lit it on fire and handed it to us, as if it were flaming creme brulee or something. The flame actually wasn't on the roll itself, but was on what appeared to be a trail of salt (presumably soaked in some kind of alcohol to make it burn). It definitely was a cool effect and I've never seen anything like it in a sushi restaurant! Lastly, the Are You Kidding Me roll - this was my third favorite out of the three we ordered. It was pretty good but I think the truffle flavor was a bit strong. I'm also personally not a huge fan of fried onions on top of sushi since I think it clashes a bit with the freshness of the fish, and gives me too many bar food vibes. But it certainly was flavorful and my husband and I still finished it. We shared these three sushi rolls between the two of us and it was just the right amount of food to leave feeling full. Besides the food, the restaurant itself was nice although I'm not sure they really needed to have a live DJ there as opposed to having a Spotify Playlist. Didn't bother me but I don't think it really added much to the vibe. I would definitely eat here again!

Celebrated our anniversary !…read more Service was good and friendly. The flavors were beautiful! We sat like in the center of the restaurant. It's one of my fear LOL. But the flavors of the dishes eased my fear. It was delicious. I love salmon and uni when it comes to sushi and I would recommend others to try this place! Several people already saw my instagram post and asked the name of the restaurant! I'm very happy that the food turned out phenomenal! Toyko nacho (recommend) : it was messy to eat and had a kick of spice. I didn't mind the mess though. Lots of different flavors. Uni hotate yuzu: scallops topped with uni. Eating it was like butter. Sour flavor profile from the yuzu. A bit overpowering. And the maldon sea salt was interesting. So you get the texture of buttery soft from the scallop and uni and a crunch factor from the salt. 5pc Salmon nigiri: so fatty and buttery! If you love salmon then definitely get this. The presentation was so cute. It lays on a bed of ice. And throughout the dinner the pieces of salmon were chilled. Monster nigiri (recommend) : I don't think anything about this when my honey suggested order this. But once it got to the table and we ate it. Wow! This dish flavors stood out to me. The crispy sweet onions and sauce perfected the meal. Dragon: It was pretty tasty and decent. I know my honey liked it a lot. He prefers not to eat raw fish, so this was to his liking (I recommend to those who don't eat raw fish). Truffle essence (recommend) : The taste of truffle is weirdly addicting. The presentation was eye catching because the candle is keeping the truffle butter warm. The concept of dipping or pouring the truffle butter onto the roll was a fun way of eating. Snowflake roll: A lot of reviews mentioned this was a popular dish. I can see why it was popular. It's literally a bunch of fish in a roll! Haha, fish lover this would be perfect to order. Crunchy roll: It was a decent roll, but a bit dryer than I expected. Orders and ratings: Tokyo nacho 9/10. Uni hotate yuzu 10/10. 5pc Salmon nigiri 10/10. Monster 11/10. Dragon 8/10. Truffle essence 9/10. Snowflake roll 10/10. Crunchy roll 6/10. Thank you!

This is my favorite katsu restaurant. Busy location with a bit of a wait during peak hours but…read moredefinitely worth it. My go to is their fish katsu. Panko crust is light and satisfying. Great portion size. Each katsu order includes cabbage salad, rice, pickles, sauces and the entree and miso soup. (Soup is only for dine in only - must order as an add on for to go orders) Attention to detail - katsus are on little cooling racks on the plate to prevent the from getting soggy, great to-go boxes, branded plates, and nicer chopsticks that won't leave you fearing splinters. Nice assortment of appetizers and sides to choose from although haven't tried them since the katsus are so filling. A must try - go early, expect a wait but you can take the time to check out some of the nearby shops.

I had to call in my order (they are on Doordash but the prices are lower if you call). It would be nice if you could order through their website, but it's not a big deal. We got shrimp tempura, chicken katsu with a side of curry, and an Alaskan roll. The food was all delicious! My daughter could not get enough of the Alaskan roll. It's simple and classic, especially if you love salmon. The chicken katsu was really good and I enjoyed dipping it in the curry. They don't offer potatoes or carrots in their curry sauce like some other Japanese restaurants do, which was a small disappointment, but I still really liked the curry. It had that "spicy" but not spicy flavor that comes from all the flavorful spices like ginger that are in the curry, but it wasn't hot (we ordered mild). The chicken katsu was a good portion side and it came with a side of rice and angel hair shredded cabbage. Cabbage isn't the most exciting vegetable, but I'll take it. The shrimp tempura was great too. The takeout bag was packaged really nicely and the katsu came in a fancy little box, so even though we were eating at home it felt a little more upscale. But the prices were pretty on par with other sushi restaurants around here, so it's definitely affordable!
