We journeyed out to Stellwagen Bank and saw 30 WHALES, dolphins and grey seals! It was an exceptional day for viewing these amazing creatures. I would like to highlight our tour guide and narrator, Lindsay who is a naturalist and someone whose passion, expertise and knowledge was palpable. She is articulate and personable combining just the right amount of enthusiasm and humor throughout the trip. You could feel not only her energy but her authentic respect and devotion to educating others about these giants of the ocean. I feel blessed everyday that I get to live near the ocean here in Massachusetts and to know these amazing mammals live and breathe in our waters. The tour left at 8:30 a.m. and returned at 11:10 a.m. I personally wish it could have been a little longer. There are bathrooms onboard. One thing to keep in mind is that there are not enough seats for everyone, so you may have to stand. If having a seat is important to you, make sure to arrive early. Also, check for any available deals before booking. We paid full price and later found out there were Groupon offers available for almost half the price. It may be worth checking whether any discounts are available for your travel dates. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and seeing so many whales upclose made the trip worthwhile.

Had an amazing experience on this 3-4 hour long boat ride (we left around 1:30 pm and returned…read morearound 5pm) seeing 1 finback whale, three humpback whales, and a huge pod of Atlantic white sided dolphins! Info for potential whale watchers: there is free parking in Gloucester on Sundays, and we had pretty good experience with bringing our own snacks, but you can buy snacks and beers on the boat as well. The boat itself as two bathrooms and a lower and upper deck. They usually go out to Stellwagen bank / Jeffrey's ledge depending on where they believe the whales may be (10 to 30 miles out). The cape Ann whale watch and Boston harbor also goes to the same locations and I believe they communicate. We were pretty close to cape Ann whale watch and they seemed to be a lot more crowded than our boat. For practically the entire trip, the marine biologist was telling us facts and guiding us in how to look at the wildlife. He even came out at the end to chat with us one on one. He was quite knowledgeable and even knew the whales by name! Apparently, it's common to see dolphins, finback, minke, and humpback whales during this season (June to October). Humpbacks deliver the exciting plunge into the water with the lifted tail. We were even able to see a cool feeding lunge from a whale named patches. We saw a lot of birds as well! We luckily were able to go to Jeffries ledge this time which is only about 10 miles out. On other trips this summer they have been going to Stellwagen bank which is 30 miles out. I highly recommend 7 seas if you want to have an enjoyable trip onto the ocean and relaxing encounter with amazing marine mammals!! I believe they will refund you if you don't see any whales, but it's quite likely to see whales as they are extremely knowledgeable on finding the whales.

The marine biologist on board is knowledgeable and clearly loves her job! It's awesome that the captain is part of the team searching for the whales and is more than willing to change course if we find out there are whales in a different area than planned. Also, the parking lot staff is surprisingly efficient given how many people are coming in and out with such limited space. We have seen multiple whales every trip, and sometimes other sea animals too! My grandmother is 92 (she acts more like she's 75 to be honest) and whenever we go, the staff and other patrons have always been courteous and kind to her without being infantilizing. I am so grateful to Cape Ann Whale Watch for being a part of this special tradition with my Grammy. Fingers crossed that next year we win the raffle for the free tickets! It hasn't happened yet lol.

Outstanding whale watch!…read more We saw numerous whales with several quite close to the boat, so close you could hear and feel the blowing. We also witnessed numerous tail breaches and fin slapping behaviors. I have been on numerous whale watches before, but never like this one!!! The ride out to the feeding areas was about 15 miles, relatively a short distance. The boat was clean and organized. The narrator was knowledgeable and quite informative. You could tell how focused she was on the subject of whales through her excitement. It was so special!

They were closed, but he noted the website, and we checked it out. Not long after they opened for the season, he went to talk to Melissa at the ticket booth, who told him all about it. We were in! I booked us on a sunset cruise for June 24. We kept watching the weather during the day, and there were showers and downpours even as we ate dinner at Sea Level Oyster Bar. Fortune favored us, however, as the skies cleared just before the 5:00 cruise returned. We boarded with about ten other people, and we set off from the dock right on schedule. The Captain and crew told us about the Fame of Salem and the boatyard where she was built. The views were amazing, and once we got away from the dock, the crew asked for volunteers to help hoist sails! Hubby and I each helped, and the feel of the wind in my hair, as we started to pick up speed was awesome! Another couple on board got engaged during the cannon fire ceremony. It was sooo cool to be a part of that moment with them. Drinks and snacks are available on board, and paying was easy (we used Venmo.) The sunset views were breathtaking. There were great views around the harbor of homes and other boats. We will definitely do this again and are looking into doing a private charter for the end of the season!

We went on a rainy day to see some whales. What was interesting is that the whales tend to be in…read moreone spot, so all of the ships were circling around an area just past the tip of Ptown. The ride out was fine and I took some ginger pills beforehand. I stayed on the outer deck, but it was COLD! Definitely worth wearing extra layers and maybe even a winter jacket when venturing out, even in dead of summer. The ride back, I had to choose between cold and nausea, and I chose to sit in the enclosed area in the middle which made me feel so sick but being cold again for the hour or so ride home was not my cup of tea. The in-between: We saw so many whale families. Many of them breached. A few were saying "hi" smacking the water with their fins. Another totally jumped and spun in the air before crashing back into the water with a huge wave. On the way back to port we found one feeding using the bubbles method! I was in the middle area and too sick to get up but I saw someone recording the whole thing and got to see it from their phone! Overall it was awesome. The one thing that's a little bit disappointing is that they tend to go out twice a day. I learned later that that's because they're on a strict schedule with regards to high and low tides at their docking stations. We lingered out a little bit extra for that final breached whale, and rushed back to port to avoid getting stuck at sea. The price is a little steep but it covers the cost of staff, fuel, and other boat needed things. At the end of the tour the guide (describes what you're going to see and what's going on around the vessel in the water) asks for tips and you can drop a few bucks into a bucket as you disembark the ship. In no time, he caught 2 big bluefish, and we ended up with 6. He also had a fun time hauling in lobster pots and driving the boat. We took two lobsters home for dinner, along with some fish. She was incredibly knowledgeable, full of energy, and genuinely passionate about whales and nature. You could tell this is more than just a job for her. She even had a whale tattoo on her leg, which made her love for these incredible animals even more authentic. We learned so much from her, and it was refreshing to have a guide so excited to share her knowledge. She kept pointing out the whales as they surfaced, and her timing was perfect, just when you thought the action had moved on, she would spot another humpback breaching or lifting its tail before diving back down. If you can, try to get on one of Sophie's tours. I've been on whale watching tours before, but I have never seen anything like this. Our four kids were beyond excited as we saw what felt like 40 to 60 humpback whales. The boat ride itself was fantastic, with the salty spray in the air and everyone crowding the rails every time a whale came up close. It was one of the most incredible wildlife experiences we have ever had. At first, I thought the tour was a little pricey, but as my son said, "Dad, this was worth every dollar. You should have paid more." He was right. We happily tipped Sophie and the crew on our way out because they absolutely earned it. If you are visiting Provincetown, do not miss this experience. It was one of the highlights of our trip, and I would recommend it to anyone.
