I have been going to Alix for cuts for the past two years. She's great; highly recommend as a stylist. She gave me fabulous cuts, and I trusted her with my hair. Fast forward to three weeks ago, post Brazilian blowout, undergone at Alix's suggestion (very frizzy, wavy, but FINE hair). I have an extremely visible bald spot, and my scalp has been flaking and shedding hairs by the bulb since the second I left the salon. The treatment, without question, touched my scalp -- something I didn't learn until later was not supposed to occur...after I sat through the giant red patch and burning sensation that the assistant assured me was normal for certain treatments (I have virgin hair). My hair flaked, burned, and was incredibly sensitive in the spots that reacted with the chemicals, and are only just subsiding almost three weeks later. I called the salon the day before the treatment to ask them if the treatment would be too harsh for my sensitive scalp (I have a small patch of psoriasis behind my right ear, but have colored and chemically processed it with no issue in the past). The receptionist asked if I had medicine from my doctor (of course I do?) and assured, ASSURED me that the Brazilian was gentle and could be tailored to as light or heavy as intensity was needed. Against my better judgement, I went through with it. Since the moment the solution hit my scalp, it's wreaked havoc. The sections that visibly reacted to the solution initially (top of the head, part, and middle top of hairline) have lost almost 50% of the hair. The rest of my scalp is also peeling, but the majority of the hair loss is over the area that the assistant and I saw get red and irritated after application. I've barely been able to leave the house. My hair falls out from the root, bulb attached. I could kick myself for messing with my perfect, frizzy, FULL hair. DO NOT BELIEVE any stylist who tried to tell you this does not alter the texture of your hair. After multiple, neurotic level questions about whether the product would straighten my curls and being assured that it would not, my once fine, loose wavy curls are stick straight, where I still have hair. If you are thinking about this treatment, PLEASE reconsider. It must work for some people, and my stylist was good enough that I 100% trusted her with my hair (something that I don't usually do). But if you have second thoughts on how your hair might react to a treatment like this, PLEASE speak up before you go through with a seemingly innocuous process, and end up with devastating consequences. Pictures attached. Just a note: if anyone from the salon had bothered returning my phone call, I wouldn't have felt compelled to write this review. Your receptionist is rude and abrasive, and definitely not someone you need as the first point of contact for a place of business, regardless of the situation.

I live in both Manhattan and London and have went to many of the best salons, but I keep coming back to Moulay because he is quite simply the best. He attended my wedding in Italy in part because I did not want anyone else doing my hair on my big day. I re-run to him for all my trims and styling because every time I try someone new they just don't measure up. Moulay will keep length on your hair, while still transforming how it falls and moves. He is also excellent at mens hair as it is the best haircut my husband has had - it magically made his hair loo fuller and his face slimmer. He also made my little son look cuter. Moulay is at the pinnacle of his field. My only advice is definitely go see him and see for yourself. Oh and he's cool to hang out with....

I've had many facials and these results far surpassed anything I've experienced before. More importantly, 2-3 days later and my skin is still looking radiant; hydrated, glowing, smooth texture. I will most definitely see Rachel regularly for this facial.

One day in 1997, while leafing through the latest issue of Vogue at the dentist's office, I read an…read morearticle about New York City hair stylists who specialize in long hair. I had been on a mission at the time to find a new hair stylist, and one young man in the story - a stylist for the models on fashion shoots - stood out and I wrote down his name and the name of the salon. Assuming that the salon would be too upscale for the young me I foolishly name-dropped to get an appointment, hoping I could could convince anybody that I was somebody... And that is how I first met Kieran McKenna at the John Frieda Salon, who as it turned out, was about as down-to-earth as they come. And delightfully British. And to this day I would never let anybody else ever touch my hair. Kieran even did my hair at my wedding! -- And - as I love to tell it - then he did my hair for my divorce! ;) Before I met Kieran I was so sick of telling hair stylists what I wanted and then walking out of a salon with my long hair chopped off - when I worked so hard trying to grow it, and with a hair style that was not at all what I had asked for. What then developed was a twenty-one year relationship, as I followed Kieran over two decades from salon to salon, using the colorists that he recommended at each salon and always enjoying having my hair cut and styled by Kieran; the consummate professional. When I arrived for my first appointment with Kieran, back in 1997, my hair was battered, fried and frizzled. It was embarrassing. But rather than blame me, my last stylist, the family dog, etc. as every other stylist always did, I remember Kieran dispensed with blame, saying "You work hard. Relax, it will be fine." And it was better than fine. It was beautiful. He always makes you feel relaxed, comfortable, and in the hands of a professional. From that day on I had the long silky locks of my dreams and - believe me - I follow every direction Kieran gives me as far as the care of my hair and the products to use. And it shows. Watching him in action, with his Louis Vuitton box of brushes and combs, his scissors and lotions, is like watching a maestro at work. He never finishes until the haircut is perfect. And while you are in the chair there is no-one else in the room for him. You are the most important person and you have his undivided attention. The people who work for him love him, his energy is boundless and FINALLY there is a Kieran McKenna Salon! What a long road. These days Kieran rarely, if ever, mentions it but I remember back then how he had come here from England not too long before I met him, with John Frieda, and how he was instrumental in developing all of the hair care products with John Frieda that are now known and loved by millions. Of course back then, nobody had ever heard of John Frieda or Kieran McKenna. Now, nobody knows hair the way Kieran does - and combines it with such a winning personality. His haircuts, his instructions, and his advice have given me hair that constantly gets compliments and I just hope he doesn't become so popular that I can't get appointments anymore!
