But you know something / it worked really really well. We also chose the potato salad as a side and it was also quite tasty. Lighter, northerly mayo's. You ask a question, they've got an answer. That's the problem with this place. You walk in thinking, "I'll just grab some hamburger and maybe a couple steaks," and five minutes later you want to leave with half the damn store. They've got custom sauces, spices, rubs, marinades, meat enhancements, all the stuff that turns a backyard cookout into the kind of meal where people stop talking for a minute after the first bite. When you buy ground beef from a large store, it was probably ground in a meat packing plant. It probably has preservatives. You don't know where the meat was sourced from and you don't know the conditions that it was processed under. They carry Boars Head deli meat and cheeses. Boars Head is high quality and always sliced fresh in front of you. They have the best fresh brats I've ever had. All of their fresh meat is top-notch. Their homemade dogs, sausages, marinated meats, beef sticks are all delicious. You have to try the BBQ baked beans. I could go on and on about all of their products! I live downtown so there's unfortunately not a super convenient VH location for me to patron more frequently. But whenever I head out to my friend's house in Woodbury, I always make a stop here. Hands down, they have the best marinated chicken breasts in the Twin Cities. They trump Lunds/Byerly's in the categories of: - Sheer size (one breast is easily enough to feed 2 adults) - Seasoning variety (garlic, bbq, cajun, dijon, lemon pepper, tomato basil to name a few.) - Price (consistently less per pound than the Lund's equivalent) And we haven't even talked about the beef, the chops, the sausage or the jerky, which are all super high quality. Von Hanson's also gets an extra star for selling Heggie's Pizza out of their frozen coolers. It feels sacrilegious to enter a meat market and buy a frozen pizza, but if you've never had Heggie's you'll have to trust me that this is no Tombstone. By far the best frozen pizza on the market.
