And they deliver what all good butcher shops do. Great service, answering questions, and figuring out how to get you what you want, even if you think they don't have it. I stopped in on my lunch break to pick up the meat and cheese trail mix (surely a mixture of the odds and ends throughout the week). I had seen it online a couple of times and was eager to get my hand on it. They had a spicy option and a regular option- I went with this one. I paid less than $10 and the employees who assisted were super helpful and friendly. I didn't have a ton of time to browse but I'm looking forward to being able to go back and pick up burgers or sausages for dinner next week. Everything I looked at seemed to be prices reasonably and beats other meat market prices in the Twin Cities. If you haven't stopped in you should! Don't forget to try the meat sticks! read more

This is the first time I've come into this location. I've been purchasing meats and things from Von Hanson's FOR YEARS. Usually go to the one in St. Paul near Half-Price Books. Have also gone to a couple in Eagan. We were out running errands and decided that we'd grill for dinner. Well, when you say "grill" Von Hanson's is what comes to mind immediately. We perused the shop a bit before approaching the case. I'd noticed a gentleman behind the counter shadowing our movements as we were heading in that direction. He was ready to serve and greeted us nicely. We got a variety of brats, buns, pork chops, and burger patties. If you're in their MVP Club, you get emails with coupons. I used one (on my phone - no paper necessary) to get one of the packs of burgers free. I am accustomed to the quality meats found here, and the brats we grilled did not disappoint. We will definitely be back. I'm just waiting, now, for that babyback rib sale. The staff, at every location I've shopped have been polite, professional, and occasionally very funny. I've never had a bad experience, including with the items purchased. The prices are reasonable, as well. And, if you're a hunter, they will process your kill for you. I've no idea how much that costs, as I don't kill my own food. Give them a try. read more

This location just opened in May 2014 and is one of the larger Von Hanson's I have been to. I love their stuffed Jalapenos and Beef Jerky, although they aren't cheap they are always good. I always enjoy the different kabobs they have too, be careful though, it's easy to over cook them. One of the guys working the counter suggested the Chicken Brat last time I was there, I was a little hesitant at first but it was awesome! Although Von Hanson is a little spendy the quality is always pretty good. I choose different places to get meat depending on what I want but with this one being right outside of my gym it's just too convenient not to return. read more

Great experience ! I was buying beef ribs for Father's Day and needed some help since they cannot be found at a regular grocer. There was a lot of staff ready to help and all very friendly and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the name of the person that helped me but he showed me every cut of meat that I was purchasing and butchered it to my liking with great suggestions. I will be back for sure! Quality meats and great service. Worth the $. After a little research I found out that the chicken they sell is the same as the organic free range chicken provider that is sold at Valley Natural co-op in Burnsville; my favorite place for organic groceries. read more

The lady that works here is so nice, cheery, fun and seems to love her job. She helped me two weeks ago select the right smoked beef tendons for my dog. I shoulda got her name. She is that cool. Tonight I bought 5 more as they are only $1 each. I asked if these were good ones. My fave item VH carries are Maple Beef sticks so I splurged and bought a pack. I have never put a better piece of meat in my mouth! Ok, so my friends ask me, "why do you go to a butcher when you can go to a grocery store?" My response usually includes words such as: idiot, better quality, wide variety, fresh, big dumb dumb. A wise man once told me, 'make friends with your butcher and you'll never go hungry.' Turns out, I've been to this location 2-3x/wk since it's opened. Not only do they have an amazingly costly selection, but they guys behind the counter are very knowledgeable as to the best ways to cook said piece of meat. Von Hanson's quality has dropped way off. After purchasing pork chops twice that ended up being spoiled within a day of bringing them home we will no longer buy so called fresh meat from them. There steaks have gone down hill as well, when I purchase a New York strip or ribeye I expect it to be tender not tough. Their pretzels and brats are good and worth a visit. read more

Very disappointed. I had hoped to find more variety and specially cuts than in my regular Lunds Byerlys. Went in and did not see any lamb chops. I asked and was told the only lamb they had was frozen and they did not have lamb chops because there was not much demand. WTF is the point of making a special trip if they actually have less selection than my standard super market. I don't think lamb chops are that exotic even in Minnesota . Goat maybe but lamb? Von Hanson's has earned my 5-star rating. They've come to the rescue more than once! I specifically shop at the Champlin store but have also visited Bloomington (Just north of 494) and received outstanding service there too. I called the Champlin store to order a LARGE quantity of sliced roast beef for a last minute party. I called on a Wednesday and they had it ready for me Saturday afternoon. Buns too! The steaks are always great. The chicken, poppers, etc.....The fresh baked bakery buns are always a winner. If you didn't know, you can always get a sandwich to go. Von Hanson's has terrific lunch meats (Boars Head) and cheeses along with some fresh deli salads. Be sure and try the bacon-wrapped asparagus! KILLER on the grill. Friendly, helpful staff. I had difficulty hearing the guy who was helping me, because Cyndi Lauper was wailing overheard. The poor older gentleman next to me was having a worse time of it. Worst customer service, highly unusual for a local market! Nothing was priced so I asked how much a hamburger patty was. Response from a bearded employee was "I don't know". By the way highly unsanitary condition as the beard did not have a net on it! Then asked how much a pound of the hamburger patties where. He didn't know that either but was able to look at something and tell us. We decided Von Hanson's was really not interested in our money so we left! Wondering if the health department would approve of the beard? Giving them 1 star would be overcompensating! I'm hoping this experience was just one bad employee as I have been to other Von Hanson's specifically in Shakopee and the service was fantastic! read more

We've found Von Hanson's to have fabulous meat and service in Savage. We've even had their "Special Spice" brought to us by family since we moved to Des Moines in 1999. About a year ago when we had family visiting, we noticed that the recipe for their "Special Spice" changed to the new "hotter trend" that is in vogue. We hoped it was an aberration, it is not. Our son visited Savage last week and the same much redder "Special Spice" was brought back. We now have 2 bottles of this hot stuff in our home and wish we could return it. We are doling out the final 2 table spoons of the "original" spice at special occasions. Why not have both if you are going to change your recipe? read more

First off, I'm a vegetarian and have NO idea how to cook meat or where to buy a good steak. I was planning on having some friends over so I helplessly googled a couple places and was going to go to a place that was rated high and supposedly has low prices. That same day I happened to get the mail and saw a promo for Von Hansons $34.99 for steak, pork and chicken so I figured I'd go there. I walked in and the lady greeted me immediately in a friendly, not bored out of her mind monotone greeting, I explained my situation and she was very understanding, I REALLY appreciate she didn't make a tired old joke about my being a vegetarian, people who do that annoy me haha. Stupidly I forgot to ask her name, but she was so helpful, cheerful and gave me tips on how to prepare the meat, that I can say I'll be going back next time I'm having company. I've never been to a different butcher or meat store and I don't think I'll ever need to! Great customer service is a rarity and she knows what she's doing.
