This place is dope. First time I walked in, I thought the guys behind the counter were giving me a little attitude. Like they knew everything about meat. Turns out, they fucking do. You ask a question, they've got an answer. Ask another one, now you're learning about cuts you didn't even know existed and suddenly you're standing there reconsidering your entire weekend barbecue strategy like a man staring at religion through a glass display case. That's the problem with this place. You walk in thinking, "I'll just grab some hamburger and maybe a couple steaks," and five minutes later you want to leave with half the damn store. They've got custom sauces, spices, rubs, marinades, meat enhancements, all the stuff that turns a backyard cookout into the kind of meal where people stop talking for a minute after the first bite. I've been to a few butcher shops around the city, but Ready Meats feels different. No gimmicks. No artisanal nonsense. No guy in suspenders trying to sell you parsley foam for nineteen dollars. I'm really glad I found Ready Meats--what a great local butcher shop! There were tons of options to choose from, which made it easy (and fun) to try something new. The staff was super helpful--especially Casey, who took the time to chat with me and recommend a few of his personal favorites. I ended up picking up a variety of brats, some garlic bacon, and seasoned pretzels. Everything looked and tasted fresh, high-quality, and clearly made with care. Ready Meats is a hidden gem in the Minneapolis area. I've only been here a few times personally but whenever my friend is cooking up steaks he gets them from here and they are always so damn delicious. I picked up some steaks today and can't wait to have them on the grill tomorrow! They have a wide range of cuts and selections to choose from. They also have a freezer full of frozen meals. I bought some English bangers (very good), a spicy beef stick (tasty, but nothing special), and a few slices of the house summer sausage (which was absolutely fantastic!). The boyfriend and I do birthday steaks, and the crew at Ready Meats always delivers a quality cut of meat at a really affordable price. You need two pounds of pepperoni for family pizza night? They've got you covered. Beef jerky? No problem! And in the event they don't have something you want, you can always ask for it, and they'll order it, or let you know where else you CAN get it. Ready Meats is another small business - pay with cash if you can, and I do believe they request a minimum for credit card purchases. This has been my go-to meatery since moving to Northeast. That and I really despise buying meat at grocery chains like Cub; more often than not it's just bland or gristly. And while, yes, the prices are higher than the grocery store, the cost difference is worth every penny for the quality. I've purchased many different types of meat at Ready Meats and have never been disappointed (but a special shout-out to the bacon!). Brisket, flank steak, all kinds of brats, chorizo sausages, bacon wrapped chicken, New York strip steak.... and beef sticks! I judge a meatery heavily on the quality of their beef sticks and these do not disappoint! Great flavor, not tough or dry. I'm partial to the spicy ones as they have a good heat to them that's not overwhelming. Other than the high quality of the meat, what keeps me coming back is the excellent customer service. Seriously stellar. Everyone is super helpful and willing to work with you; you want 5 pounds of bacon, but wrapped in individual 1 pound packages? No problem. You want a roast or a cut of steak to be around 3 to 4 pounds? Again, no problem. I sometimes come in with lists of things and they make sure that I walk out with everything I came in looking for. This place has been around for over 30 years, and my grandpa loves it. So, I promised him I would pick up Christmas dinner meats here. It was a zoo! Be sure to grab your number right away. It was hidden for me since there were so many people, but it's off to the left side, right when you enter. I found the boards with what was available very helpful, but it's also a good idea to look at the food in the case. I went with porkchops and bacon wrapped chicken stuffed with asparagus. Sadly, I learned that the chicken came from Wisconsin. I was under the impression that this was also a butcher shop. I don't think everything is local here. They do have a large selection of frozen and packaged foods. Some examples were cheese curds, lasagna, turkey wild rice meatloaf, tator tot hotdish, potatoes and meatballs. I over heard a comment to a worker about how delicious their dinner rolls were. Next time I would like to try the lefse and a few stuffed sausages. read more

We live within walking distance of this little place in North East but I would walk miles! Family owned and ran, you walk in to smiles on their faces and a smile when you walk out. We get all our meats there. Most recently we got filet mignon wrapped in bacon. My parents used to do this and you have to ask for them to specially wrap it for you. OH MY GOSH. the BEST steak I have ever had. All of us at the table were DROOOOLING. They even have ways to prepare on their website! How kind right? The most touching moment? A mother and her little girl came in to buys some meat. It looked like the owner's son.. he leans over and asks the woman "May I give her a sucker?" Now if that isn't manners. At the holidays they have Swedish sausage and lease We love getting their packs of food, it's like opening a Christmas present. My family has been going here to buy meat for special occasions or if we had extra money since before I was alive, my dad would bring me with when I was a child and they would always give me a meat stick and at the time they had their own string cheese, now its just the packaged kind. The employees here know everything you would ever want to know about meat, after 60 years I'm sure thats all they know! The only thing I would suggest, if your going to buy chicken or burgers, just go to Cub Foods or something. When we moved to Northeast, we found many neighborhood gems... but this one is by far one of my favorites. We have completely stopped buying our meat at the grocery store since finding Ready Meats. They have an awesome selection, their prices are very reasonable, and their frozen meals are homemade and perfect for the winter months when you're too tired to cook after a long day. In the summer, we stock up on their bratwursts and sausages... the turkey and wild rice is a favorite. The bacon-wrapped stuffed chicken breasts are a tad pricey but worth every cent. And finally, the service is wonderful. The family that owns this is super down-to-earth, friendly, and they remember you after only one trip. I loved that when one of them retired, they brought in a cake to share with everyone. Walking through the door of this butcher shop bends the time continuum. Your mind will automatically abandon the last few decades. I'm serious. There are the white floors, white walls, moisture residued meat cases, and the men behind the case in white aprons and white paper hats. (I think) This is what happens at Ready Meats! I'm no longer a single, college educated lady pulling up in a coupe. I'm a housewife with four kids bouncing in the back of my wood grained paneled station wagon. I'm stressing over the fact that dinner hasn't been prepped for my husband and I still have to go buy him a pack of cigarettes and martini olives. It doesn't matter! The butchers are "ready" to answer questions, make suggestions, and cut anything to your liking. The variety is vast with not only meat but frozen food options, condiments, potatoes/onions, seasonings, sauces, wood chips, charcoal, bread, and the very best pizza kits ever!! (Crust, cheese, toppings, sauce). Thank God it's 2017. My womb and my patience were never cut out for anything besides my own porterhouse and 2 door vehicles. I've made burgers on the grill from their ground beef and those are the best hamburgers I've ever had. You can totally taste the difference. SO much great flavor! This is where I go to get a great steak for the grill. I love the bacon wrapped tenderloins. They also have hamburgers with bacon ground into the meat that are very tasty. Ready Meats is where I go when I have to heed the need for a vat of chicken soup. You can buy chicken backs by the bag for cheap. They actually cut meat there! And they're not as pricey as Von Hanson's (I almost stroked out when I picked up five t-bones there once). The guys at Ready Meats know what they're doing. They don't shoot water into their meats under the guise of "a 12% flavor solution," either. That is such bullkaka. Check their frozen spaghetti sauce, too. Good homemade weenies, too. Because I live about 25 miles south, it is a destination visit. I love to make the trip. Good guys. Keep your eye out for the old fart -- he's a real flirt! This place is everything a butcher shop should be. They are knowledgable, helpful, and have great meat! I bought pork ribs this summer that I grilled for a birthday party at my house. I did them three different ways, all were excellent, but the way that was the best, was the way the guy at Ready meats recommended doing it. Amazing ribs and I really impressed my family. The pork chops are ridiculous here, seriously special. I also have tried their flank steak, and the porchetta, all really. Good. Ask them how to cook it and they'll talk to you for 15 minutes. They've got it all...I wish they smoked their own jerky though. That would be over the top. read more
