We are lucky to have RJ's in Hudson! I've been going there for many years and I've never been disappointed. They grind their own beef which is important to me. At RJ's I know what I'm buying. I can see with my own eyes that the beef is being ground in a nice clean area by trained adults. When you buy ground beef from a large store, it was probably ground in a meat packing plant. It probably has preservatives. You don't know where the meat was sourced from and you don't know the conditions that it was processed under. They carry Boars Head deli meat and cheeses. Boars Head is high quality and always sliced fresh in front of you. They have the best fresh brats I've ever had. All of their fresh meat is top-notch. Their homemade dogs, sausages, marinated meats, beef sticks are all delicious. You have to try the BBQ baked beans. I could go on and on about all of their products! Love this small meat market! Cheese and curds galore, packaged sausages, pickles, fresh bread and rolls, Boar's Head deli products, and (of course) they have the fresh cut meats (insert Arby's music here). There is also a selection of salads, chips, drinks, and basic grocery supplies. It is always a pricey trip when we stop in but the service is great and the products are high-quality. read more

Cute meat market. Reminded me of a place my grandparents would frequent back in the day. We actually stopped in looking for some cheese curds. Found them. They had the Ellsworth brand; taco flavored which were pretty good. They also had a section of meat sticks. The only bummer was not finding any garlic flavored ones, but we settled for the meat and cheese. Also grabbed some flaky layered rolls which were quite good. Lots and lots of meat to choose from. Great meat. I used to go here for thick cut bacon and brats. They recently started selling their bacon ONLY in one pound prepackaged plastic wraps. SAY WHAT? It's ridiculous that I can't order what I want and have it wrapped in a nice paper wrapper. If I wanted a pound of plastic wrapped bacon, I would go to the grocery store and not waste my time asking the guy behind the butcher counter to hand it to me. Really disappointed in this change. Service is sometimes slow, even when there are several guys behind the counter AND there aren't many people waiting. Not sure what that is all about. read more

Meat. Vending. Machines. So let me back-up to the beginning. I was turned on to this place by a couple of Hudsonites who had some really good sliced meats at a get together. They raved about the place, their specialty and seasonal meats and everything else and all I needed to do was sign up for their e-mail to be in-the-know. So a couple of years ago I did just that and now the place is always knocking on my inbox with a "Yo Steve! Your freezer needs some brats". So this is my go to place "in town" for brats when I want something special (35m drive from Minneapolis). Their stuff is solid and they do a lot of unique flavors. I mean, I had their Hawaiian brat recently that had pineapple and maraschino cherries in it and it was really good. I slather my brats with with all sorts of veggies, kimchi, kraut, tomatoes, avocado, etc. anyway so why not a little more? Dill pickle brat? Check. Philly brat? Got that too. They even supply some of the meat to The Winzerstube, that German restaurant on the main drag that my parent's friends, all from the old country, say is their favorite of the bunch in the Twin Cities area. But it is the Weisswurst that RJ's supplies to that above restaurant that always has me coming back. Now Weisswurst (also spelled WeiBwurst as that B is a double S in the Germanic language) is friggin delicious. WeiBwurst is ground wicked fine. Finer then any brat you have had in your life. Plus, part of the meat is veal which makes it even more tasty. It is an amazing brat that you rarely find anywhere else. In fact, I've only been able to find it consistently at RJ's since they supply the restaurant. If you don't see it in the case, ask. There's stuff in back. But one of my issues has always been timing as more than once I've tried to stop and shop as I was driving through town and they were closed. But no more. Our little slice of the Midwest now has access, 24/7, to a butcher shop!!!! WHAT?!?!?!?!?! (Insert Elaine from Seinfeld shove right here) Well it's not that the store is open, but they have refrigerated meat vending machines. WHAT?!?!?!?!?! (Insert another Elaine shove right here) Three words I never imagined I would type together but there they f'ng are. God Bless this country(as I wipe a tear from my eye). Meat. Vending. Machines. My friend who lives in Hudson LOVES this place, so we stopped in last weekend when we were traveling through. Bought thin cut bone in pork chops, just grilled them tonight-and they were seriously the best chops we have ever had. Shop there if you ever get a chance!!! read more

i am so dang happy that I live really close to this little meat store. I have been purchasing most of my meat here since moving to this area and happy to report that they have the amish gerber chicken-housemade items like cottage bacon, brats, summer sausage. I got such great reviews over the jalepeno cheddar summer sausage I served at a party everybody had to do a quick run to the store to get some for themselves to go home with. HA HA. The cowboy steak was very tender and worked fabulously to fondue. They do have their own baked breads and I purchased some little dinner rolls that were fresh and soft. I find the prices here to be similar to what you would pay at a regular grocery store so why not patronize a local meat store that is doing a great job in our little community... read more

I had the good fortune of spending the last Sat. of gorgeous weather in Hudson for a gathering of supper club aficionados at The Hangar. They had the great taste to have the event catered by RJ's. The brat and bun were fabulous. Only complaint was that they didn't have the means to keep them hot. I almost wish I had passed because, their sides are so fabulous. Huge chunks of egg in the potato salad. Great baked beans, great flavors and nothing weird in them. What floored me was just seeing macaroni salad in the mix. Minnesotans seem to have a weird aversion to macaroni salad for parties, and you never see it. You can guess the overkill portion I took, and it was so good I ate the whole thing. After the party I drove straight over the little bridge to the meat market itself. I need simple ham and swiss, they use Boars Head. I wanted to try a bread, so I picked up Seibenfelder Loaf. You haven't lived til you tasted this stuff. It's worth a trip just for this. They also carry Texas toast, which seemed to be the only bread that is sliced. It was very busy with everyone huddled in the middle of the meat case. Probably a Packers discussion is involved. It almost seems sacreligious that it's between a Taco Johns and KFC. The best part, only a few feet up you hop right on 94 W home. read more

I go in there occasionally to satisfy the carnivores in my life. They're known for their brats. They also have pretty darned good fresh rolls. I've been to RJ's many times and love this place. When heading to Wisconsin, once you get to the top of the hill after crossing the river, look left. It's right by the KFC. They specialize in Brats and other sausages. I've eaten nearly every brat there and they are fantastic. The only one that wierded me out was the hawaiian brat. It had pineapples and cherries in it- the cherries looked like large spots of blood. Don't judge this place by one ill-conceived sausage, it's not the norm. They have a very nice meat case and have a wide selection of poultry, pork and beef. Don't miss their braunschwieger. If you are a lover of this sausage, theirs is the best I've had. It's cheap too- like $3 a lb! Friendly staff and decent bakery make this a must stop when I'm headed to Fleet Farm in Hudson to buy dog vaccinations. read more

One of the best perks of living in Hudson. The brats are a must have on any outdoor adventure. They have international awards! Here's a tip: don't share any beef sticks with the folks at the office. They will have you bringing them in once a month! This family owned shop is a joy to visit everytime; their service is world class. They will be happy to see you.
