We hired Borchers Mechanical Services because the owner seemed knowledgeable about our need to heat and cool apx 2,700 sq ft with a 2 head ductless system. The installation worked fine for just under two years. In Jan 2026 the system failed due to a refrigerant leak-which overheats the compressor so there is no heat or AC. This is not normal for such a new system and was ultimately traced to a damaged fitting (which the mechanic, who is the son of the owner, admitted to causing during original installation). Borchers was slow to respond, clearly prioritized new installs over repairs, and had poor communication throughout. They initially recharged the system as a temporary fix without properly diagnosing it, charged us $228, and the system failed again within hours. After more delays, they finally replaced the faulty fitting but billed us an additional $864, despite the issue being caused by their original work. Customer service was terrible (they acted like they were doing us a favor, when they were fixing their mistakes), there was no accountability or apology, and they hid behind a 30-day warranty for what was clearly an installation defect on a $15,000 system. While the install looked good and worked for two years, the handling of repairs was unprofessional and disappointing. We also received no clarity that this recent fix would work or about a warranty on this fix. When I asked if we might be doing this again in 2 months (ie, was this an actual fix) the mechanic said he didn't know. I wrote the guy a check to get him off my property. As it turns out, I go to one guy for my oral needs, and his son for the pipes. Yep, Dr. Borchers is my dentist, and his son runs Borchers Mechanical, keeping our heating and a/c up and running. What did you think I meant? Dr. Borchers is awesome, and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Every time we have a problem with our heating or a/c, we place a call and there's someone here same day or early the next day, if it's after business hours. Even when their schedule is full, the receptionist (Borchers-the-son's mother, I believe?) has them fit us in between stops or at the end of the day. A few days ago, the hubs and I both realized that we were sitting in piles of our own sweat, and further investigation turned up stagnant vents and a burning smell coming out of the a/c unit out back. This was Sunday night, and in the thick of people's a/c going out all over town due to the heat wave, but I called and left a message anyway, hoping we could get them in sometime the next week. We already planned to pack up the next morning to spend a couple days at my parents'. When I woke up the next morning, I had a voicemail from Borchers Mechanical. Even though it was an hour before their business hours, they answered when I called back. Mama Borchers had a technician over before I'd finished breakfast! But WAIT, it gets even better! I was positive, due to the burning smell, that we were going to need a new a/c unit. Thousands of dollars. Or something. The mechanic (not sure if it was Rob or not, but seems likely) looked worried when I told him about the smell. I realized that they could tell me I needed a new unit either way and I'd have no idea. Ten or fifteen minutes later, he comes back up, told me it was a simple fix that just needed a small part replaced, which he'd already done, and that it was up and running! The cost, including the new part? Just over a hundred bucks. Best hundred bucks I ever spent. A yelper was telling me today about a hidden camera experiment that ran on the news recently, showing a series of mechanics lying about expensive fixes that needed to be done to a/c units. They went above and beyond. Our basement started flooding Friday evening. Because of the water pouring through some light fixtures and the incessant buzzing from our fire alarms, my husband turned off all power to the house. No water, no power, sub 20 degree temps, and an impending snowstorm expected the next day. We made it through the night and on a friend's recommendation, we called Borchers Mechanical first thing Saturday morning. Dawn answered the phone, but the soonest she could get us scheduled given the storm was for first thing Monday morning. Her first concern was making sure that we had power since the temps meant our pipes might freeze making the damage we expected even worse. We'd explained we'd already tried getting the main on, but after every attempt the breaker would trip. Dawn assessed that we needed a master electrician and quickly recommended one. Given the situation and that we were in panic mode, Hubby and I thought we'd try to make it to Home Depot to get some propane heaters until Borchers could make it out to us. We didn't make it far until we had to turn around because the roads were so bad. As we're slowly and dejectedly making our way back to the house, Bob Borchers calls us to find out how we're doing. After some explanation, Bob also instructed us that we absolutely needed to get power back before anything else stating that leaving the house with no power and no heat will make the damage even greater. He asked us to try to get the main started again when we got home and to give him a call back if we still have a problem. As we pull up to our house, we get a call from Dawn telling us that Bob is on his way, picking up the electrician and will be at our door in just a few hours. The electrician didn't have a vehicle with 4-wheel drive so Bob was driving him over to make sure we could get our power and heat up. Yes.....Bob Borchers drove to our house with the electrician in tow in the middle of the snowstorm! Better yet, not only were they were able to get the power and heat running, they also isolated the leak and got our water up, as well. In Bob's words we were "good until Spring." Confused, Hubby asked about getting repairs on Monday and Bob stated that it wasn't necessary since the damaged pipe was the pipe out by the front of our house. Since we have no immediate plans to water the lawn or wash our cars, we were fine to hold off on repairs until Springtime! You can't believe the gratitude and relief Hubby and I both feel towards them. They truly are good people. If you are in need of plumbing services definitely go with Borchers Mechanical. So when my furnace and hot water heater needed attention, I relied on Bob Borchers for an honest opinion. He explained clearly the problems and the alternatives. I opted to replace both. Bob and his crew did a top-notch job at a very fair price. This locally owned and operated small business really deserves your support. And thank you to Dawn Borchers for the excellent responsiveness to my calls and questions. They really are the best. Not only are they incredibly honest, they are so reasonable with pricing. I had a small plumbing job and I called 3 different plumbers out for estimates, the range was from $1200-$2000. I'm a woman, so I guess they assume they can rip you off. I had used Borchers before but I moved so I didn't think to call them. Well, I did call them and the woman on the phone was SO HELPFUL. She explained since I was a little ways out of their normal work area they couldn't come out until next week, I was okay with waiting. So I explained the project to her and she told me it would be between $400-$500. Sure enough the amazing Borchers Plumber Robby did the job and he cleaned up and it's better than new. Yay! I was out of town & came home to a very steamy house. I made the mistake of calling someone else first who attempted to charge me over $900 for parts and a service agreement. My gut told me this was fishy so I made some calls & my neighbor told me to use Borchers. Rob came out & replaced 1 part for $20 + service. I showed him the estimate from the first place & he was so shocked he asked to take a picture. My AC was fixed. I was still having a problem with air flow after he left & he returned. Seems my duct work is poorly designed & might need to be replaced but he offered a solution (which for the moment is working) that cost me basically nothing. I'm now a fan of Borchers & would confidently recommend them to anyone who asked. read more
