Usually hard to get them during an emergency, cause they are honest and based so you gotta wait in line. With all the years I have been with them I could say that they are fair, and they won't gauge you. I had an emergency Saturday appointment recently that was made the day before which costed a couple hundred just to come out. The guy came, located the problem and fixed it in 20 minutes and charged me for the basic cost and the part. Did a few things to help maintain my system while he was at it. Mind you I still have FH furr HVAC plan and don't even want to touch them with a 10 foot pole. This shop is mom and pop, not private equity. read more

We had only best experiences with this company. Its started when there was a head wave and our A/C died, all in time around July 4th! And the company's specialist came the same day, assessed the situation and had the new unit installed the next day, on price lower from other companies too! Then whenever we had any need of them to see the A/C or Heating unit the company usually have specialists to come the same day, especially if there is a problem if somehting is not working properly. Administrative staff is also very nice and helpful. We are clients of them for over 14 years already and planning to stay for many years to come. read more

I've had two full HVAC replacements on different homes with this company and I love them. The work got done in a reasonable time, the price is reasonable and the follow up service is fantastic. In fact, after the install on my second house, the county inspector found a very minor issue and said he was shocked he found any problems at all with their work, because they've always been top tier. The issue was fixed immediately and they even called to follow up a week later to ask if any other issues were found. These guys will always have my business in the future. read more

I was a loyal customer of Hoffacker's for 30 years and had been very satisfied. Unfortunately, my latest experience with the Hoffacker's team was horrible and I won't use their services going forward. The technicians were great. But the pricing ($450 for 40 minutes of service in my home) seemed very high. When I called to request a clarification for the charge, the service manager was rude, disrespectful and did not follow up when he promised to do so. On my third call back to discuss the issue with him, he rudely told me that the company does not want me as a customer and would take me off their customer list. I have never experienced anything like this in any customer service encounter (on any front). Rude. Disrespectful. Horrible customer service. Especially to a loyal, 30 year customer. Had another company come out and it turns out this was not the issue at all and it was an easy and relatively quick fix. We were left without heat for over 24 hours because of this company. I was having trouble with my heat pump during the recent cold snap. I got an appointment for the same day I called. The technician, Harry, arrived on time and was very easy to work with. He took as much time as he needed to diagnose the problem and even went out to buy new parts. Eventually, he was able to fix the problem for just the price of a service call. This would be lower, except I've used them in the past for repairs and they did a decent job. I called them out earlier this week to check out my AC unit. It's original to the house, and wasn't cooling again, so I suspected I was getting close to a replacement scenario. The service person who came out was pleasant enough. He let me know that I needed a new unit. I already have replaced our other heating/ac system a few years ago, with another company, but Hoffacker also carries the brand I wanted for this replacement. I asked the person to provide me with an estimate for replacement of just the AC and for a total replacement scenario (which I said we'd most likely do). I also said I wanted to get it done ASAP. He took a few minutes to look at my system to figure out the best system and said they'd email me an estimate within 24 hours. Well it's over 48 hours later and no estimate or follow up at all. I guess they have more business then they need, but I'd think complete system replacement would be pretty high on their list. I had another company out to do an estimate (GAC), who did our other unit a few years ago. They spent a lot more time looking over my old system, diagraming everything, sat down with me and fully explained several options and were able to get me on the schedule for early next week. I won't be using Hoffacker again in the future and I'm out the $110 for the service call. If they can't deliver an estimate on time, it truly makes me wonder how reliable they are for an all day full installation. Just disappointing. read more

As the official start of winter approaches I was glad to have my Mitsubishi Split-System and interior consoles cleaned and examined today. Service Technicians Harry and Adam could not have been nicer. Harry took time to explain what he was going to do to clean the interior consoles and, he and Adam pointed out to me how I can switch the air flow on the interior console from upper only to dual floor & upper air flow. During the winter months, dual air flow is best seeing how heat rises. I can't say enough good about this company. They get the job done right at a fair market value price. It is so worth it to stay on top of HVAC maintenance visits throughout the year. read more

I have been using them for years at my home and business. They have gone above and beyond to help me out and keep my old systems running for over 20 years. When it was time to have to replace the units I had them do the work, too. I never felt pressured. Yes, it was expensive. They may not be the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. If you like people showing up on time, and you value customer service then I would highly recommend. Most of their employees have worked there for a long time, and they are very knowledgeable. We have used Hoffacker for over 10 years with a service contract. Today our thermostat broke and I was offered a replacement that was $483 plus labor. The exact product sells for $183 on Amazon (as well as other stores) and you can purchase a 3 year warranty for $28. I was told Hoffacker's warranty is only for 1 year. We settled on a less expensive option that could have been purchased for over $225 less on Amazon. The EXACT same thermostat. If I purchased the product elsewhere they charge $175 (plus today's charge) to install making cost prohibitive to purchase on my own. I understand an up charge and labor charges but this was not a fair or reasonable charge. The technicians have always been good, but they don't set the prices. It's a really poor practice to overcharge at such a high percent. 250% mark up. read more

My feedback is related directly to the folks doing administrative work in Don Hoffacker's office; they were, collectively, unprofessional and had complete disregard for the health and safety of my family. They ignored basic decency. My suggestion is to explore other service providers that can put personal views aside and focus on the work and common courtesy, especially given that market prices for these services are pretty standard. It's really simple. When you come into someone's private residence, while there are still cases of Covid-19 spreading and sadly, someone is still dying everyday, have a mask on hand just in case those living in the home need you to. It's not political. When I called to share that the technicians arrived without masks and that I provided them one, but wanted to express how important it was to us that they wear a mask in our home (given ages and underlying conditions), the expected, customer service response would have been something like, 'thanks for sharing your concern, we'll call the team and make sure they wear masks when they're inside the house.' Rather, I was met with "I really don't know what you want me to say to that," "the pandemic is over," "if you're vaccinated everyone should be fine... although it's not really a vaccine anyway..." by the woman (whose name I'll leave out of respect for her, which is not what she afforded me.) Additionally, I was speaking with someone about my concern when she interrupted our conversation and went on a politically-charged rant, trying to make health-related suggestions (obviously not being a doctor) about why this was all my problem. We've had babysitters, cleaning professionals, and exterminators in our house in the last month and not one caused any issues related to this. The low number of deaths is irrelevant; that's someone's family, and it's my family, so we choose to take precautions and you're in our home. That should be respected and it wasn't. read more

They are rude, bully their customers, have the worst business practices, have no idea how to service heating or cooling units properly, and ultimately will waste not only your money, but your time. I have been using this terrible company (I don't know why) for years across two of my properties, and I will never again give them business after they caused me to waste $700 on unnecessary repairs. You are lucky they know you. I have luckily not needed AC work for last 20 years. I used to use them for everything 20 years ago. They replaced 2 entire HVAC systems at other locations. There were problems, but work was acceptable. They have great sheet metal shop. 20 years ago I moved to new location which had new HVAC installed by different company. I asked Hoffacker if they would transfer the new system and any warranty work over to them. System was basic HVAC. They declined and things fell apart at that point. I was good customer and felt like it was a simple ask, but I made a negative comment. Luckily that system has run fine for last 20 years. Today HVAC went out. I called Hoffacker and it was like I just got off the phone 20 years ago. They had make remarks in account that I was not happy with them. They refused to help. This is during current heat wave. It was like they had been waiting for revenge the last 20 years. Again, luckily, I replaced capacitor and system is fine. At your own risk, do not make them mad. read more

Hoffacker's installed an HVAC system at my home in 2019. The AC was still cooling this week, but it took longer to cool the house. Called Hoffacker's, and Patty arranged Tim to look into the problem. Tim quickly found a refrigerant leak to a soldering defect. He fixed the leak, recharged the refrigerant in 1 hour, then he showed me an invoice of 0$. Even though the standard 3 year warranty for the installed HVAC had run out, Tim talked to the office and the office agreed that the soldering problem should not have been there, without my asking as I was ready to pay for the service. Tim's professionalism, friendliness, and honesty is a rare find these days. When I told him that, he said that it was Hoffacker's: "We stand for our work and correct mistakes." Did I say the warranty had ran out? I don't know how many companies are this honest, pride in their work and their service to customers over profit. I am glad I purchased the HVAC system from Hoffacker's. It has proved that I am in good hands. read more

Please don't use this vendor. Their technician are not professional. In my experience, the technician suspected a leakage in my AC system, but suggested to add coolant to get the temperature down. We paid $777 for the coolant only to last 1 week and they come back for a second visit and told us yes indeed there is a leakage. Why don't they look for the leakage at the first visit and fix it? This is wrong and we were charged for both the coolant and the second visit for leakage test. Customer service is bad too, they protect their people and said we approved the work. We are non-technical people, we rely on the professionals to give good advices, but the advice we got was obviously wrong. We can't get any refund from Don Hoffacker, only spend about one thousand dollars to buy a lesson. read more

Update to my previous review. I made the call to have the recently installed system checked, as recommended. I also had them check the whole-home humidifier which we inherited when we bought the house. Sure enough, there was a blockage to the humidifier and it needed to be cleared. I have used Don Hoffacker's Air Conditioning & Heating several times over the past 10+ years. I called this weekend, in 90 degree weather, when my air conditioner failed. They were able to send someone out that day. The tech that came to my home was Frank. He was professional and was able to repair the problem and get my A/C running again. In fact, when he was done, it was working even better than before. There was a huge downpour during the service call, and I would have understood if Frank didn't want to complete the repair on the outside unit, and come back later, but he kept going. At my old home, they installed a new air conditioner, and then several years later they replaced a heater, and now they are maintaining the system in my new home. They are the best. Quality work! My HVAC system needed replacing back in May of 2019 so I gave Don Hoffacker a call. The work was quick and painless. The staff that worked on the new HVAC were a joy and they truly performed quality work. We have a contract with them now to perform the routine maintenance and we are very happy with the system now a year or so later. We have used Don Hoffacker's services for 17 years. This spring, we had a problem when it was time to start up the heat pump, so we called for emergency service on a Saturday. They diagnosed that we needed a new fan motor, which they ordered. The following Monday, a very young service person came back to install the fan. Unfortunately, it never functioned correctly, and it kept shorting out other equipment; finally it stopped altogether. So last week, we had to call them again to correct the problem Today, they came back out with another unit and confirmed that it was installed incorrectly the first time. The same young technician also brought the wrong filter for our unit several times. So overall, good; but perhaps more oversight or coaching is needed of newer employees. read more

We needed to replace almost our entire central AC system (condenser, evaporator coil, etc.). We ended up using Don Hoffacker's and I can't recommend them enough. I want to leave a detailed review about my experience as new AC is not a cheap job. I got quotes from several local businesses, including the local favorite, Davis and Davis (no thanks). Don Hoffacker's stood out for the following reasons: 1) Quality of initial visit. Rob spent more time than the other companies diagnosing our needs. He provided me with a loose verbal quote on the spot that closely matched the written quote the next day. He also spent extra time and helped strategize about future HVAC needs should we remodel or expand, and shared interesting thoughts about our house. He was easier to deal with than all the other field managers I met with from other companies. 2) Honesty. Hoffacker's was the ONLY company who admitted that, yes, technically we could probably just replace the condenser and save money. They walked me through why this was a bad idea long-term. I actually knew all of this already - but Hoffacker's was the only company transparent enough to acknowledge it. Instant bonus points. 3) Right amount of follow-up. Davis and Davis was completely uninterested in our business, we just aren't cool enough for them (pun intended). A different Rockville company called me every day wanting me to sign the contract - annoying and desperate. Hoffacker's was appropriate and responsive in their follow up with me. 4) Price. Hoffacker's gave me an honest price. 5) Install. The crew was punctual, polite, took proper COVID preventative measures, went out of their way to fix other issues such as a duct leak and drainage problem. It was a joy hosting them and their install job looks 100x better than my old one. No surprises, no issues, just professionals doing their job. As it should be. 6) Brands. They are a Bryant dealer, which is great. Lennox has issues and I did not want a Lennox unit. I will update this review if I have any issues with this company. But as of right now, I can wholeheartedly recommend them for major jobs in Montgomery County. I think you will find them better priced, better performing, and all around a better experience than other local Montgomery County HVAC companies. Five stars. read more

Earliest appointment was 10-2 the next day and he actually showed up shortly after 10. Capacitor was dead. Replaced it, took probably less than 10 minutes. Ensured it turned on and was cooling. Terribly disappointed with the half-truths and lack of professionalism displayed by this company after previously being very pleased and recommending them. I had them install a new central heat pump unit (indoor and outdoor units) six years ago and was very pleased. I purchased a 10 year warranty based on their claim that any needed repairs in that time would be fully covered at no expense. I declined their annual maintenance contract, instead electing to perform coil cleanings and filter replacements (as required per the warranty manual) myself. They said that was fine. Three days ago the outside unit quit working. The tech came the next day and performed the repair, then presented me with a $96 bill for the service call. When I questioned the charge he countered with the thinly veiled threat that the warranty could be voided entirely because I hadn't had them perform the regular maintenance required by the warranty. He insisted that if I didn't have receipts showing I paid someone to do the service, the manufacturer wouldn't honor the warranty. It was after hours by this point, so I couldn't reach the office. The next day I called the office to inquire about the service charge policy. The woman who answered the phone confirmed that their policy is to charge the fee in addition to any services performed. She then proceeded to change the topic just as the service tech had, threatening to void the warranty because I hadn't had them perform regular maintenance (which she later denied having said). When I told her I had performed the needed cleanings she asked pointedly (and condescendingly), "You've used a hose to clean the coils?" I responded that I had and asked if she was suggesting that customers were too stupid to clean coils. She laughed and answered, "You'd be surprised." I returned to the original subject by informing her that I would not be using them in the future. Her response was that they wouldn't come to my house again anyway. These dishonest people took advantage of me, while I was days after post operation, my AC stopped working and it was hot. They charged me $521 for a 2bl r22 refill that lasted about 4 days, in turns that my AC had a leak but they never bother to fix that, so the money was wasted on a refill. I've used Hoffacker twice for repair calls. They showed up same day, and charged a fair price. The most recent call resulted in the decision to replace an old r22 unit that had leaked out. Of course, it failed on June 28, and soonest they could get to me was July 11. Fair enough. Wait your turn. I called Monday to tell them I couldn't do the 11th due to travel. Well, 3 techs had volunteered to work Saturday! They arrive on time this morning, and took 2 hours start to finish. Including diagnosing a minor sympathetic vibration in the new compressor. I noticed the vibration, but before I could mention it, they were crawling all over the unit to isolate and fix it. I can well imagine any number of competent techs that would have ignored this. These guys give a damn, and have pride in what they do. Very satisfied with Don Hoffacker's! read more

I am highly technically skilled (and very picky about quality of work) and do most of my HVAC and other home maintenance work myself. However, for HVAC work that requires specialized skills and expensive, specialized equipment that I would rarely use if I purchased it myself, I leave the work to HVAC contractors. In 2000, Hoffacker installed a new R-410A A/C system and it performed flawlessly for the last 18 years. The plastic condensation pan finally cracked and leaked this year -- which isn't unusual for an 18 year old system. The evaporator coil also appeared to be near end-of-life based on age and condition. Hoffacker gave me a reasonable price to replace the entire evaporator unit and correct some sheet metal ductwork that had been poorly done when the house was built. Both technicians were true craftsmen. The sheet metal guy was amazing and the finished product is absolutely first-rate. At the same time, Hoffacker didn't needlessly try to upsell me on replacing the outdoor unit (or entire system) since it still was in very good condition. Rarely do I give such a strong recommendation to a contractor, but these guys are first rate and they really do deserve the five-star rating. read more

I bought their best system. They sold me on it. It is so loud at night we have to play music just to get to sleep. It wakes me up in the middle of the night. They came out to check it several times but were unable to do anything about it. I think they should have replaced the unit. But instead we have sleepless nights. I've been a satisfied customer since 1991; however, my experience today killed that relationship and any ability to recommend this company. A technician came to my home wearing a gator. I politely offered him a mask which he refused. I asked if he was vaccinated and he said no. I again asked if he'd wear a mask and when he refused again I asked him to leave and I would reschedule. I called the company and while they were willing to send another technician out the owner was very clear that she'd done her "own research" and doesn't believe in vaccinations or masks and doesn't require it of her staff. She did say the technician should have put on a mask when asked but would not require it of her staff. She said most of her staff are not vaccinated and are only willing to wear a gator (which we know is not a proper mask). She was unconcerned about the dangers of covid and unwilling to take mitigating actions as she doesn't believe they work or are necessary. That unfortunately ended the contract. They do good work but can't support this company any longer. read more

Keep away! Worst attitude and untrustworthy company I've ever dealt with. Reading Lonnie's review should have been a clue that this old, established company now think they can get away with unprofessionalism and it doesn't matter since overall they are busy and don't really need anyone's particular business or satisfaction. We needed someone to evaluate and fix rigid and flex duct-work in our home. I was told me Scott was their duct work guy so I patiently waited to have a slot where Scott could come out and then arranged my schedule so I'd be home for the appointment's 2pm-4pm window. They confirmed with me the day before so I was feeling glad that I'd get an expert opinion on what needs to be done at my house. It was only after I was waiting at my house for an hour I called them (they never tried calling me) at 3pm to get an updated ETA since I had a professional meeting to get to in Baltimore that evening. After waiting on hold for a long time, they said Scott couldn't make it since he got tied up at another job and I'd have to reschedule to get Scott to come out and he was "very busy" with quite a tone to her voice so don't know when they could do it. Seriously? I schedule way in advance, take off work and you don't show and don't even call and then make it seem like I'm the problem??? I wanted to make sure Mr. Hoffacker knew what happened. Took the afternoon off work for no reason. If they had an unexpected problem (I understand that can happen), they should have called or at the very least prioritized Scott to come to my house in the next few days. So 3 days in a row, I call to leave a message to have Mr. Hoffacker call me on my cell to make sure he knew what happened and finally the lady laughs and with an annoyed tone say "he got your message", you don't have to keep calling every day. We are very busy and don't need your business. Really unbelievable. read more

Technicians are experienced and their work is thorough. However, the caveat is the customer service is arrogant and company allows office help to berate you and shows no concern over meeting your needs. They have been around a long time and treat you like they are the only hvac company in area. I just switched after last fiasco and new company loves my business and they treat me with courtesy as I always do. 9 out of 10 of my reviews on Yelp have been very positive, this was the exception. read more
