First off, this place looks cool. It has the whole retro thing going on. Bop's Frozen Custard kind of reminds me of a 1950's type diner and the staff was definitely friendly and professional. Looking at the menu, I saw what they called the Peanut Butter Mountain and being somewhat obsessed with ice cream and peanut butter, I went with this option. The Peanut Butter Mountain is vanilla custard, Reese's peanut butter cups, peanut butter sauce, and hot fudge. Let me say that this turned out to be an amazing choice and the price was definitely more than fair. A large version of this was under eight dollars. As I said, it is more than fair in terms of pricing and again, this was definitely an amazing dessert. Once you're are in the drive-thru line you can't get out so prepare to wait. We waited in line for 30 minutes for us to get up to the window and order a concrete with Kit Kat to be told that they don't have Kit Kat. Kat Kat was listed on the menu and when I asked the young lady at the window if they were out of it or did they have all the other candies available, she said we don't have it. So we ordered two concrete with chocolate chips instead. Their menu says the concretes come with vanilla custard but they handed me chocolate. When I ask why they gave us chocolate instead, the girl swore up and don't that I told her chocolate custard. I wanted to spend my money at a local business but between the long line and argumentative employees, you're better off just going to sonic or some other chain ice cream shop. read more

I was glad I called ahead when visiting this location, which was open Christmas Eve, but only until 5. Hopefully they enjoy their holiday as much as I enjoyed my mint-flavored concrete with chocolate flakes, which had the chocolate both mixed in and sprinkled on top. It's a rich flavored custard that takes up the mint well, with a slick egg-y texture. I've had Bop's at a few places and it's quite consistent. If you have problems with dairy or egg, this place can do some flavored ice for you, but this probably isn't your ideal destination. This location has a drive-through window. Whenever I come back home, Bop's is usually the place that's at the top of my list but this visit changes everything. I got the black berry cobbler a la mode and it was a disappointment to say the least. Although the custard was just as good as I remember , the cobbler let the whole team down. First, there wasn't a good fruit to crust ratio which resulted in mostly bread and maybe four blackberries. Also, the cobbler itself was too thick as though they used too much cornstarch or slur. Their concretes aren't "mixed" ..it's custard with toppings on top. I was disappointed with the lack of incorporated fixins'. The flavor is just ok. Sheridan 's is much better at presentation and getting more bang for the buck. The toppings are dry crumbles. .not chunks. Really enjoy the malts and concretes here. When I get the concrete, I like the raspberry one. When I get the malt, I like to add strawberries, bananas, and heathbars. I like that I'm supporting a Mississippi company when I come here, too. Never had their burgers. It's a great place for first dates to go get some icecream. Bop's Frozen Custard was one of the first spots I ever visited in the great state of MS after moving here eight years ago, and I've been a fan ever since! The ice cream here is just SO GOOD. Because they make it like custard, it's thicker and richer than your standard ice cream. They make the custard in-house daily so it's always super delicious and fresh! They mostly only offer ice cream, custard type treats here, but what more could you want? Get a milkshake, get a root beer float, get a banana split, get an ice cream cone, they've got it all. The "concrete" is basically the Bop's version of a McFlurry-- the toppings are blended into the custard. It is SO GOOD! People are often confused by the "frozen custard" moniker, but that just refers to how the ice cream is made - you make a custard and churn it as it freezes. This yields a thick, rich ice cream. Like gelato, there is less air in the ice cream and it is served at a higher temperature to allow you to experience the flavor more intensely! The ice cream is made fresh daily. The menu is basically what you might expect - ice cream based treats. And that's all you really need to know. They do shakes and floats if that's what you want, but where I think they shine is their "concrete". This is essentially just toppings blended into the custard - it is dreamy. Went here on a rainy summer night- got their mocha cha ya ya sundae. It was super rich, tasty, creamy, and I definitely felt guilty eating it, but once I started I couldn't stop! I didn't know they had one in Ridgeland until about a year after I moved here (I know, I know) but I make just as many trips now as I did in college. My review is mostly about service versus product. I love Bops frozen custard and the quality is always there. But on a recent trip to MS, I wanted to surprise a couple of family members with a Bop treat. I mentioned the short travel distance between the Bop location and the family and having to transport a couple of goodies. The young gentleman at this Bop location assured me that he would "fix me up" with a treat guaranteed to make it frozen in my travel time. He wasn't kidding - 30 minutes later those specially packed treats made it to their intended recipients all perfectly maintained and delicious.
