Booze plumbing charged me an exorbitant amount, $1965, for replacing a sump/sewage pump in my basement. The work took less than an hour and the price of the replacement pump was around $600 from multiple vendors on Google. The Booze office tried to convince me that the same pumps advertised on all Google sites are actually factory seconds, unlike the pump I was charged for! Really?! I have previously used Booze for plumbing work before, but their prices then were reasonable, but not now and never again. read more

Had booze come out to snake a master bathroom recently. I'm a native Vienna person and wanted to shop/use local. Just had them come out today to snake a clogged drain and was told it's 200 plus 75 per half hour after. Tech comes with a electric cordless snake that was opened on the drum (broken). Tech says sorry he's trying to fix it and leaves 2x and says he may need to go get a new one since this is broken. He comes back and says the office told him to use the bigger snake and says it'll cost more. He goes to do it and is done in 30 minutes. They try to charge me for two hours of work and up charge me for an extra 100 for using this particular snake. $450 for literally 30 minutes of actual work. Also accuses my pipe of breaking his cheaper snake. (Which I made a comment before any work that it's open and looks broken). I call to speak to the office manager and he tells me I broke his equipment and tried to charge me over 450 for the work. We argue over this and he tried to tell me he's absolutely charging me for their time troubleshooting their own broken product. Once he realized I wasn't going to be pushed over i paid 275 to get them out of my house. Shady business and sad knowing it used to be a Vienna based business. Manager was rude and telling me he didn't care about my thoughts. Wow. Never Again! The tech was nice as heck. Only reason I'm giving a 1 star. The plumbers and their work in general are fine, although they put my old toilet directly on my carpet. I called to schedule a toilet install and made the appointment for a week later. They called me when they were already supposed to be at my place and said they didn't have the right parts and rescheduled for a few days later. I told them the only way I could do that day was if the plumber came in the morning as I had a doctor appointment I had to leave for in the early afternoon. The gentleman assured me that the plumber could get there in the morning with no problems. The morning of I called for an ETA and they informed me that they had sent the plumber on a job before mine, even though I had been clear that I needed a morning appointment. They didn't get there until early afternoon and I needed my mom to come over to finish the appointment. The office itself seemed confused as to why an appointment would have been scheduled before mine. I hope they pay more attention to customer service next time, although I can't be certain I would use them next time. read more

Booze improperly replaced the valve on a spigot for my residence. The result was water accumulating in the wall were the piping meets the valve. They refused to fix the problem at their expense and were rude and condescending to deal with when I told them about the problem. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. We had an 18-year-old dishwasher die on us, so we purchased a new dishwasher from one of the big box stores and had also expected them to install the new one and haul away the old one. Upon the arrival of the big box installer, they said they couldn't install it because our piping was old and we needed a plumber to install a new water shut off before the dishwasher could be installed. Instead of having the big box install the dishwasher, I called Booze Plumbing. On the day of install by Booze, I didn't think there'd be any other issues. Apparently, I was wrong. We had more issues than expected and it wasn't to be an easy appliance install. Our tile floors were higher than the floor underneath the dishwasher which reduced the opening for sliding the dishwasher in. We didn't have a separate outlet for the power to the dishwasher - apparently, that's new code since our last dishwasher install -- so electricity had to be directly wired to the new unit. All in all, it just seemed like one headache after another and I was a bundle of nervous energy because I was afraid that they were going to say they wouldn't install it. Long story short, our Booze sent out a second plumber to help, and together they were able to do everything they were supposed to do, and I now have a fully installed dishwasher. Lots of people complain about the cost of plumbers, but what most people don't realize is that this is not an easy profession. Their plumbers are extremely competent and they did above and beyond the scope of the job. It was worth every penny. read more

Just another perk of being a homeowner... purchasing a new toliet. Whoo hoo. I called Booze because my toliet was clogged and just didn't seem to want to unclog itself. my mom set up an appointment and i waited. And waited. They were supposed to come at 8, but at 830 i had heard nothing. So i called. They had me on the schedule for the afternoon. I had plans! After much talk i was able to reschedule, but i was highly displeased. But once we got over that (for which they appologized profusely) things were great! The man came, did something to my toliet, got it to at least function and told me i needed a new one. Wasn't thrilled about getting a new one, but at least it worked for a while. He gave me a list of the toliets to get, a price estimate and offered to install it next day (granted i buy it from thier shop). But he also encouraged me to shop around, which was appreciated. I purchased the toliet (cheapest one i could find that was still good!) and it was installed within an hour. That was great since installation was only a little over $100. I called Booze late on a Friday afternoon because I was having issues with one of our main level toilets. They were able to get someone out that day, but my schedule didn't allow for it. We scheduled for first thing on Monday morning. I was first on the list of calls, so the plumber arrived just before the 8am-11am window. They gave a professional call-ahead as well. The gentleman diagnosed the problem quickly and got to work. He also called me in at one point, to show me some small cracks in the tank. He cautioned that in the future I would need a new toilet. He assured me that it wasn't necessary to purchase a new one today, but to be aware of the issue. I truly feel that other, less credible plumbers might have attempted to sell me a whole new toilet on the spot. He earned big points with me at that point. He repaired one other issue and was on his way. While the total bill wasn't inexpensive, it was fair for the parts and labor required for the job. I highly recommend Booze Plumbing. Outstanding from start to finish. I called on behalf of my elderly mother, set up an appointment for the following day with a three hour window, they called ten minutes past the start of that window. Arrived five minutes later. Reviewed the issue, made suggestions for repair along with a cost and timeline. Completed the work in quick fashion, cleaned up and made sure that the work area was cleaner than before and was very matter of fact in making sure his work was up to our expectations. We had used Booze since 1978 and in the past had no complaints. But something has changed. We had a toilet that wasn't filling. the plumber spent about 15-20 minutes replacing two parts and said he would return the next day to replace the third part because he didn't have the part on his truck. He did come back the next morning and replaced the part, again spending about 15 minutes. The total charge was $555. I called and asked the person I spoke with to review the bill and let me know if it was correct since it seemed excessive. he said he would get back to me as soon as he saw the ticket, but he never did. I called them for low water pressure in the master bathroom shower. The plumber replaced 2 parts- shower pressure balancing unit and mixer cup for pressure balance valve for which I was charged $85 each (total $170 for parts alone). I checked these parts on Amazon and their prices are $34.06 and $27.75 respectively for the exact same brand kohler. 50 yrs. ago Booze Plumbing installed all the plumbing in our new home. Through the years we have used them when necessary. My husband is now nearing 90 and it is hard for him to get down under and do things. We needed a new faucet installed in our kitchen sink, so we called them. Two men came out. One took the old one out and put the new one in, while the other stood watching. It took about 1/2 hr. When ready to pay, he was told it was $580.!!! My husband was speechless--he said, "No discount for Senior Citizens, or that I am a WWII Vet? He was told no. I called the home office and asked to speak to the Mgr. The person said he could take care of my call. I told him all, and I asked why there was no separate itemization for how much the labor was compared to the faucet cost, and he WOULD NOT BREAK IT DOWN FOR ME. We don't have the box it came in, or the manufacturer or warranty, and he offered no other explanation for the cost or discounts. We could have purchased a lovely faucet at Home Depot or Lowe's and had a friend install it if we had any idea of an amount like that. Some new people must have taken over this very old, good establishment and we will be sure that we and none of our friends ever call them in the future. I called Booze the day before he sent his worker to my house to repair my hot water heater on 12/30/2015. He vacuumed underneath it and said if that doesn't work, then I would need to replace the burner assembly and thermocoupler. Well...his cleaning did not accomplish anything as the pilot light continued to go out after he left. All that for $96 and 1/2 hour's work. I then called Donald Hunt plumber instead who came out the next day and almost immediately knew the problem was the lint blocking the screen attached under the hot water heater. I would have expected Booze plumber to have known that not only the lint under the hot water heater needed to be removed, but that by simply putting a cloth on a stick and cleaning the screen was required too. Hunt did just that and the heater has worked fine for 3 weeks. For $96 Booze accomplished nothing and gave me wrong advice on the burner and thermocoupler, i.e., that I would need to replace it. I don't mind paying for a service that was useful, but Booze got it all wrong. Send out plumbers that have experience. read more

I had a very bad morning, complete with discovering a pinhole leak in the utility closet, yay! Booze had someone at my house within an hour of our call. The mechanic was able to diagnose the issue quickly, explain the fix and he got right to work. Before long he was done, explained what he had done and asked if I had any questions. I appreciated that he also mentioned the age of the water heater and mentioned it would be something to keep an eye on. He gave me good, fast, professional and most importantly trustworthy service. I'm glad I called these guys, because I could have very easily been told that the solution required a much more involved and expensive effort. Was simply told "sorry - it is what it is...". They did offer me $50 off on my NEXT project with them but wouldn't just refund me the $50 like i asked. I wouldn't go back. My bathroom sink was slowly draining with a leak. I called Booze Plumbing and they came out the next morning. I cleaned out under the sink and disconnected the piping. The plumber snaked the drain and connected the sink drain. This took exactly one hour $450.00 labor only. I was shocked! We've used Booze Plumbing four times. The first time, we had them in to install a tankless water heater. We had tried to contract with a few other people to do this and none of them believed it was possible. Matt from Booze came out, evaluated the situation, helped us understand our options, and figured out a couple of options. He came back to install the device and finished very quickly and with an absolute minimum of disruption. The device is expensive but fantastic and will hopefully pay for itself someday. Eventually. The second time, they sent out technicians to diagnose and fix a part on the device under warranty. No problems. The third and fourth times they have come out were for projects related to a kitchen / bathroom renovation. Cody moved the refrigerator supply line, disconnected the sink, installed a garden hose spigot, removed a gas fireplace, and disconnected the gas range. He came back another time to reconnect various appliances. I've never been disappointed with any of the work; and they've always been good at clearly communicating what they're doing and any issues they may have had. I'd be happy to use them again, although I hope I don't have to for a while. read more

I've used Booze several times. As others point out, they are competent and fairly expensive. I've been happy with the work that they have completed and have felt that I paid top dollar for it. On the most important points - do they show up and do good work, I'd give them five stars. Re charging for what they do, I think they can sometimes overdo it. For example, in repairing an outdoor sillcock, they charged $155 to look at it and tell me they probably couldn't get a repair kit (I later found that brand was carried by the local hardware) and that replacing it could run $1,000. In the end, the old one was frozen and couldn't be repaired. Removing and replacing it required opening the wall. They did this and and did the work properly. The plumber got here about 11 a.m. and left at 12:30. For an hour and a half of work and a $30 dollar sillcock, I paid $775. With the initial $155 call, my total bill was $830. In fairness, they warned me ahead of time that the replacement might run $1,000, but $830 for an hour and a half of work does seem a little over the top. I had assumed that at $1,000, the replacement would include closing the wall that they had opened, but they informed me that they did not do that. So I've got further costs to deal with. read more

We have used Booze Plumbing (BP) over the years for various projects. We went to the store/showroom and were quoted $110 for a Mustee 17F laundry sink, or $450 installed (when homeowner supplies the faucet). I wrote these numbers down on a BP business card while at the counter in the store. An on-line search showed a price range of $80 - $120 for this sink, consistent with the quoted price. A few days later I called and set up the installation and confirmed the installed price of the sink: $450. I provided the faucet. Sink trap and supply lines were available from the existing sink. The plumber arrived on-time, was courteous, and installed the sink and faucet with no problems. He called the "boss" back at BP before writing out the ticket, and we were charged $580. I contested the charges and explained that we had confirmed the quoted price both in the store and by telephone. He then said that the sink itself cost $450 (see quote and online price range above). After more discussion he reduced the charges to $450, which we appreciated. However I was disappointed at the price inflation at the conclusion of the job. Our water heater died over the weekend, and after a plumbing company we'd been dealing with previously gave me the run-around, and finally told me they could come out and replace it a WEEK later (7 more days of ice-cold showers?), I called Booze, based on a neighbor recommendation. The gentleman on the phone gave me a price based on the details I provided (a price that was slightly lower than the other company's), and said they could come out the following day. Hallelujah! I was given a window of 10-2:00. At around 10:30, I got a call that they were on their way. JR and Victor showed up, and proved to be professional, polite, efficient and neat. (They wore those little booties.) JR has been doing this forever, it seems, and he explained everything he was going to do, and inquired about the status of kids and pets in the house (taking care that they wouldn't get scalded or escape through the front door, respectively!). Within 2 hours, they had the new heater up and running, explained all the features, left the area clean, and turned out all the lights behind them. (So considerate, start to finish!) And the price I was charged was the exact price I was quoted on the phone, sight unseen. I called Booze on 5/26 in response to a large water leak in the ceiling of my den. Directly above the leak is a bathroom. I was charged $175 and told that the leak was not plumbing related but probably caused by leaks in the bath tile caulking. The plumber did replace a small flex pipe under the toilet tank that had a small leak that was unrelated and not necessary and certainly not worth $175.00 After a week of not using that bath at all, the water leak continued and I called in a different plumber. The problem was a hole in a pipe in the bath and is now repaired. The plumber doing this work found the leak without a problem. I left a message at Booze to let them know that I was not happy with the service. If I receive a favorable response, I will append this posting.
