However, while my glasses (varifocal, both normal and shades) are fine I did remember that service and after sales service left something to be desired so I decided to try Vision Express and I am glad that I did! Making the initial appointment was simple (online) and the whole process (even in these pandemic days) was a pleasant experience. The optician himself was excellent, professional and a delight to chat with on a variety of topics. And the good news is that my eyes are healthy and have barely changed - but I can keep the old ones as standbys in case of loss or breakage (although I paid a refundable (discount for my future glasses) £39 a pair to cover repair or replace the in case of breakage. Then took my time to select my frames from a bewildering array but ended up going with Ted Bakers for both. Excellent process and experience in getting fitted and selecting all my options. I would have my new glasses in 2 weeks but lo and behold barely a week later I get the text and call that they are ready. The next day I visit, try them on - perfect! Slight adjustments to the frames to make them sit optimally and I was smiling and ready to go! I will be back!

Just a warning about Brittain opticians on Harborne High Street…read more Today we discovered, thanks to the children's hospital, that my 4 year old Grandson has been given the wrong perscription in his glasses from Brittain opticians. The hospital has confirmed that he has damage now to his eyes due to there negligence. The staff at Britain's have admitted they have given him the wrong perscription. There only offer was they would do an eye test and give him new glasses. The hospital have said this isn't allowed as his eye problems are complex and are only to be revised by the hospital. When we informed Brittons of this, they refused to let us talk to the manager. They refused to give us any email or phone number of a governing body of optitions. And ultimately when we kept asking they Banned us from contacting them or going into the store. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! My Grandson has permanent damage to his eyes because of thier negligence!

For those unfamiliar, it's a bit like Cash Converters but focuses mostly on DVDs, computer games, mobile phones and other small electro-gadgets (iPods etc.) For those unfamiliar with Cash Converters, CeX is basically a great shop rammed full of cheap, pre-owned DVDs etc. There's loads of bargains to be had, such as series (I try not to say 'season', damn Americanisms!) box sets of things like 24 and Family Guy for between £6 and a tenner. I'm pathalogically bad at computer games that came out after Donkey Kong 64, so I couldn't tell you much about what games they've got, but there's a lot of them. The selection of films they stock, considering they're all pre-owned is vast - everything from blockbusters to obscurities. There's also a membership scheme in the form of a small key fob which lets you exchange goods. Before this place there was practically nowhere to buy DVDs in West Brom, certainly nowhere dedicated. Now all it needs is a bookshop and a proper record shop.
