Although it is their job, they truly take that extra mile (goes above and beyond) to ensure that they provide efficient advice and service. And I cannot thank them enough. I have been a customer of Specsavers for about 7 years now for both Contact Lenses and Glasses. Based in a very central location on New Street, they are easy to find and have a good selection of lens options and frames. The main reason I go back is the price. They are heads and shoulders over their competitors in terms of the cost for glasses and lenses. I have had all manner of wonderful glasses from them over the years (including my current favorite - the Leopard print winged designer frames I am currently rocking). People ALWAYS ask where I get my glasses from! The downside is that their service is a very mixed bag. The staff are helpful, patient and polite; but sometimes their ordering systems aren't great. With my current Contact lens direct debit I have been told 3 different ways of getting my hands on my supply and have been advised incorrectly (you guessed it) 3 different times. It's not so much of an issue for me as I tend to only wear my lenses at weekends, but if you were a staunch everyday wearer - this would be very frustrating if your supply was short. To give an idea of prices, I pay around £230 for 2 pairs of designer glasses (and get my sight test for free as I am on Contact lens Direct Debit). For my lenses, I get 10 pairs a month of daily disposables a month and my checkups for £9 per month - so not bad at all. I would recommend them, but always book an appointment! If you walk-in, you can suffer horrendously long waiting periods. read more

I get my contact lenses from optical express, but since they moved premises, their choice of glasses has gone down dramatically, so I decided to hunt around for my new frames. The staff at spec savers were brilliant. They were really friendly and helpful. The shop was buzzing, but there were plenty of people to help. The selection of glasses at their New Street branch was great and I had really trouble choosing. They found me quite a cheap pair, when I had been looking at more expensive frames , so I know it wasn't just all about the sales. They also gave me a discount voucher, so with the money saving scheme at work I think I might go back and get one of the other pairs I looked at:) Oh, I should add, my glasses were ready to collect and hour later-they sent me a text to let me know!:) read more

I always get my glasses/lenses from this branch, this weekend I had a problem with my eye so I went in for a walk in appointment. They saw me really quickly, ran lots of tests and referred me to the eye hospital all within an hour. Really impressed! One star taken off due to it being difficult to get through on the phone before I went in. read more

I'm pretty much blind without my glasses on. So the other day when I decided to put my purple frames on my purple bedspread it was destined to end badly. Yes, I sat on them and they needed emergency frame surgery. I've been using this branch of Specsavers since it opened and I've always enjoyed my visits here. The staff are friendly and helpful and there is a huge selection of frames. I normally time my eye tests around a 2 for 1 deal because who doesn't like free stuff! I've always found Specsavers to be better value than some of the other high street opticians. Prices are displayed clearly and there are regular offers and deals. If like me you find browsing through hundreds of frames a slightly daunting task, have a look online first. Write down the product numbers for the frames you like and give it to a member of staff. They will find all the frames on the list and it saves you not being able to find a pair you like or drowning in a sea of plastic. Sometimes the frames on display downstairs aren't displayed upstairs as well, so make sure you check both in case you miss something awesome. Back to my poor broken frames, I took them in yesterday to see if they were fixable. The lovely member of staff took them off me, had a quick look and told me to come back in 15 minutes. 15 minutes later my glasses were good as new, I wasn't charged for it and I got free lens cleaner thrown in. Overall I'm very happy with my choice of opticians and will continue to use Specsavers. read more

Specsavers is probably the UK's most popular outlet for glasses and people with eye problems. Therefore they can offer some great deals on frames etc that smaller retailers just can't match on price and designer status. This particular Specsavers is a little hit and miss when it comes to service. I've always found the glasses department friendlier better to deal with than the contact lens department here. There seem to be some really good staff here, as well as those who could do with some training on customer service as to not appear nonchalant. So it really depends on the luck of the draw as it would be, to whether you have a great experience here or not. Saying that, this is a fairly large Specsavers so by default one of the better ones of this chain opticians. read more

Nice store, helpful staff. Wide selection of glasses plus those camera/monitor things so that you can take several pics of yourself with different glasses and then review them to see what looks best. Excellent prices.much cheaper than anywhere else on teh high st I've tried. Slightly disorganised, but nothing too irritating and certainly still worth going. read more

They absolutely refused to serve me. I have some Specsavers glasses, the nose pads require replacing. I visited the store, first I purchased them from Wolverhampton so the answer was they wont help, second is require proof of purchase with the date. If they are over two years old, Specsavers will not help at all, even though by law they are responsible to me for any repair for six years from purchase (Sales of Goods Act). I offered to pay and they still refused. I contacted the HQ and they said the store will call me to get me sorted, they have never called after two weeks. read more

Since moving to the Midlands 14 years ago my family have always used Specsavers, New Street branch. During this time we have had excellent service. Once or twice glasses have needed to be changed and this is where we cannot fault the customer care. In particular I would like to mention two people, Caroline who is the assistant manager and Richard both have worked there many years. We have become friends with both of them due to the good service they always provide, nothing is too much trouble for them. We hope they see this review as it is very well deserved. Nice looking store, friendly staff and good product, but let down by the shocking lack of organisation. Two weeks after a 6 month contact lens check up I received a letter telling me I needed to book an appointment as they had not seen me for 12 months, I called them to explain I had been in a couple of weeks ago I was told that there was no record of this and that I would have to go for a check otherwise they would withhold my lenses (but still take my Direct Debit payments). Two weeks after this reluctant second check I received another letter asking if I realised that it was nearly 4 years since I had a checkup! Another downside, I have been going to this store for a number of years, and on evey visit they seem terribly understaffed and my appointment is always over half an hour past its scheduled time. read more

I have moved to Harborne so started to use this Specsavers as mine was far away. Dr Harminder Thanda is the worst dr i came across. My lenses started to be really uncomfortable so i went to see her find out what is the problem. She did not care at all simply told me i probably not washing my hands properly. Thats it! However i have been using lenses in the last 8 years and had no problem whatsoever. I terminated my direct debit contract immediately. I have moved away from Birmingham i thought i give a shot for shot for another Specsavers in Bournemouth. My new dr is lovely. He admitted what i thought that the manufacturer has changed the lenses and loads of people has complained about them. And also he has changed my solution for peroxide what is amazing. What a lovely caring dr. But avoid the Specsavers in Harborne, horrible staff, playing with the health of your eyes. read more

Abysmal customer service and staff who clearly do not have a clue what they are doing! I was warned not to go there but did I listen? Really not happy with my experience. Went to Boots instead where I got great service, an eye test on the day and a decent quality pair of glasses. read more

Expensive glasses, and the store has escalators going up the first floor but then you only have use the stairs to come down!
