Foundation, Primer, Powder, Lip oil +++ FREE SAMPLE lip oil, mascara & toner 3 xD :-)

I went in to get a color match for foundation as I didn't know what foundation shade would match my skin tone since I'm not used to wearing it. I was greeted & completely taken care of by Debbie from Clairns section, who was absolutely fantastic. She was extremely clear with explaining the products she was applying to my face; she introduced me to primer, powder & lip oil, all of which I ended up buying as well since it looked amazing on my face which she so kindly did. She was even giving techniques like "when applying around the eye it's best to work from the inside to the outside" So not only did I get the product I was looking for (& more :P) , but tips too. I left the store with a different confidence than when I came in. She went above & beyond what I would've expected. An absolute star. 10/10 would recommend.

Boots on Princes Street is one of the biggest ones I've been in, and tends to be the cheapest out of any that I've been to across the city. No matter what time of day I've been in, it has always been chock-a-block with huge queues, even in the morning before the lunch time scramble for the sandwiches which haven't gone stale. I must admit, it is a bit run down and dated but most big department stores tend to be now. Superdrug down the road has been refurbished recently so I hope Boots ups their game. The staff are usually quite friendly, offering to help with packing bags and other things. The layout mostly makes sense, with cosmetics, soap and food downstairs and the pharmacy bit with medicines and throat sweets upstairs. I guess it's 3 stars because of how old fashioned it is, but it would have been 4 otherwise.

I love Boots a little more than is really normal. It's the kind of place where you can spend loads of money and not feel guilty about it, as they're things that are good for you and things that you genuinely need, as ooposed the sort of 'need' that comes into play when you're in a shoe shop. And this one in particular is great, mainly because of it's size. You can splurge on designer makeup, pick up your prescriptions and stock up your bathroom cabinet all under one roof, and then of course there's the legendary Meal Deal. £2.99 for lunch? Yes please. The only problem is that you need to get yours before 11:30am, as after that the wraps and sandwiches fly off the shelf and you'll find yourself left with egg mayo. If you haven't got an advantage card, get one. Why haven't you got one yet?! I think it's something like 4 points for every pound you spend, which means if you do all your christmas shopping in here you'll have enough points to treat yourself to something nice too. Speaking of which, if you're bored coming up to christmas or valentines day then head to the perfume section of a big Boots like this one - how many confused and perplexed men who know they're under to pressure to produce a gift for the lady in their life can you fit under one roof? A lot. And it's hilarious to watch.

    It's open until 7pm!

I can't believe I am the first person to review this Boots because it is the flagship Boots store, or so it seems to me. It is the trendy, upmarket, expansive, and biggest Boots in central Edinburgh. You walk in past the large perfume section and then you reach CHOICE. You go to Boots because it has all of the everyday things you need and, usually, you drop in on its convenient locations. On Prince's Street, this one is both convenient while shopping and also offers a large store with so much choice and selection that it completely surpasses the other stores. In addition, the staff are super friendly and it is open until 7pm (I know, those of us from elsewhere think this feels like closing at midday, but for Edinburgh this is quite an achievement when everything else in sight has its lights out by 6!). This is the Boots to come to!

The store feels high-end so is fancy and well laid out, and the staff are friendly, with many creams and products on hand to test out before purchase. The store closes at 6 pm between Sunday and Wednesday, opening an hour later between Thursday and Saturday, regardless I feel this is far too early for a large department store in a big city, the shopping hours are not well catered to workers, and those who prefer to head out in the afternoons. There are places to sit and take a break while shopping in the store, which I appreciate, and the vibes inside the store are very nice, overall, with some nice products, so it is well worth a look in if you have time while shopping in Edinburgh. The store has five floors, including a Brasserie and Bar on the Fourth Floor, with impressive views of the city, including the Old Town. 4*

It doesn't boast the ornate fronting of Fraser's in Glasgow, or the glorious facade of Jenners through here. But you don't go to a shop to look at the front of it for hours - you are presumably there to spend money. Inside, Fraser's is very easy to get lost in. When you emerge from the fragrance and beauty section blasted in perfume (not quite, but you can ask for a sample), you can wander up to the designer clothing sections. It's lovely and the staff are great. It's a bit too pricey for me at the moment since I am rooted in my poor pauper postgrad student status, but one day I aspire to be able to buy some pretty frocks from here. And to be overly indulgent on perfume, and not feel shy to get one of those make-up makeovers that they offer in store because I will be able to afford the products by then. Their products are of great quality, hence the price, but for folks like me, we'll just have to make do with the immense 70% reductions in the mid-season sales.

Every…read moretime I go to Fort Kinnaird, this place is usually my first stop so that I can avoid the afternoon chaos later on. The layout is much better than its sister store on Princes Street and since it is all on one level, getting around is pretty easy as you can see everything from when you enter and you won't have to negotiate any of those dreaded escalators that make you go ALL the way round to the other side of the sales floor to get to the next one. The men's department is an adequate size and is conveniently located near the front of the store. The only downside to this, is that you will have to walk all the way to the back of the shop if you want to try something on as that is where the fitting rooms are located. Speaking of the fitting rooms, they are modern, bright and have never been subjected to horrific queues when I've visited. (Unlike the shambolic Princes Street store.) One thing that annoys me is the checkouts. They are also at the back, on either side (one set in lingerie and the other in homewares) and usually have slow moving long queues. This is not ideal when all you are buying is a t shirt, a pair of jeans and some sweets. Another thing that bugs me is the till staff. I know it must be horrible working 9-5 in Primark under the harsh fluorescent lighting and with demanding customers but a smile would be appreciated. It could be stocked a bit better and they should assign more workers to the checkouts to cut down queues but other than that, this store provides a less chaotic experience to the city centre store and is much better in many ways.

Consequently, you spend 99% of your time inside trying to navigate to the floor where you want to get to as opposed to actually shopping. All I wanted was a dress and yet it took me a good fifteen minutes of wandering around in circles before I finally gave up and asked a sales assistant before I eventually found the womenswear bit.
