Debenhams saved me! I was in need of a very specific electric kettle and they had it - correct color and all. It was also nearly £30 cheaper than the same kettles (different colors) over at Fraser. Their women's collection looked decent, too. I briefly looked around for a new coat, and while I didn't find anything I really loved, the selection of dresses and tops had a lot going for it. Finally, the woman who checked me out could not have been friendlier. She enquired as to where I'm from, if I'm enjoying Edinburgh, and wished me well on my travels. Officially the world's most confusing department store. And therefore the most annoying. For some reason, rather than being one whole shop this place is laid out as two individual shops back to back - a Princes Street side and a Rose Street side. Consequently, you spend 99% of your time inside trying to navigate to the floor where you want to get to as opposed to actually shopping. All I wanted was a dress and yet it took me a good fifteen minutes of wandering around in circles before I finally gave up and asked a sales assistant before I eventually found the womenswear bit. But this brings me to my next grumble: as far as Debenhams go, this one is really small and so there's really not much selection ot choose from. read more

Yeah I agree with Amy G and Emma C before me - this particular Debenhams really isn't the best showcase, but Debenhams is ace - lets not lie! It's the sort of place you can spend the whole day in. They have everything you could possibly want, tights, shoes, dresses....and that's just the menswear. Yeah, this branch is grotty and I'm often left feeling a bit dirty when I leave, but call it my guilty pleasure. You really can't fault the quality, the price and the staff. read more

I generally do like Debenham's, they do have some pretty good men's clothes every now and then and I actually found my favourite pair of jeans here. However, this one is pretty complicated to navigate around, although not as much as some other have portrayed. The store itself is on the small side when it comes to department stores, which is a shame, but it is able to fit in a small little cafe, which is always good to have a stop for a coffee and chill out. My favourite thing about the shop is the home department, you can find some real bargains here whether it be for the kitchen, bathroom or the bedroom. read more

It can be fun to go in to have a look around at the latest styles and fashions according to this department store. While I do like some of their dresses, I am not going to rush out to spend over £100 on a dress here. Most of their things seem very over-priced and not worth it. Debenham's on Princes Street is a pretty unremarkable department store and I think it's one of the worst in Edinburgh. The perfume and cosmetics department on the ground floor is small and the staff are not particularly helpful. In other shops the women working at the big name cosmetics counters are falling over themselves to help you out, but that's not the case here and I have been ignored on more than one occasion. The lingerie department fares slightly better, but there is not a very wide range to choose from and it gets incredibly hot and stuffy, which makes trying on bras an uncomfortable experience. Its saving grace are the Blue Cross sales where items can be reduced by as much as 70%, but when these aren't on I'd give this place a miss and head to Jenners or House of Fraser instead. read more

I really don't like Debenhams. It reminds me of middle aged housewives who spend their husbands money in Debenhams while pretending it is really Harvey Nicks. I only really come in here to use the toilet. Which is located on the top floor which I find super annoying. This is a clever marketing ploy to make you walk through the whole shop on your way in the hope you will buy something. I do enjoy the blue cross sale or their 20% off days which are good for picking up some nice home stuff. I find the rest of the store so bland and dated, maybe if it had a face lift it would encourage me to shop there. read more

Debenhams is excellent and for anyone who likes shopping and it's particularly good for the lazy shopper like me as it has so much stuff all under one roof. -Need a new outfit? Take your pick from all the high street concession brands. -Need some new make-up? Pop into the make-up section where you can choose from various different premium brand make-ups, get tips from the professionals and maybe even get a cheeky make-over while you're there. -Need some perfume? Check. -A gift? There's a whole store full of gift ideas and if you're choosing for someone fussy, you can always opt for a gift card instead. -Homeware? They have it all. As a rule, I love Debenhams, but I can see where the other reviewers are coming from, this particular branch does feel a little bit more flat than others but it's convenient location ensures that I'll pop back time and time again. read more

Debenhams is a great department store which is vast in products and best of all, affordable. I think people have this view of Debenhams being for old ladies or more mature couples but this place actually stocks some great lines in shoes and handbags which are well worth a look. As well as that, the make-up counters are fantastic and I always pick up my regular essentials from Benefit and Too Faced here. Apart from the fact that this branch isn't great; it could do with a clean, a lick of paint and maybe some brighter lights, Debenham's is great for an all round shopping trip without having to leave the building! read more

I hate shopping, yet I love department stores. I'd like to say that this was an interesting juxtaposition but sadly it's fairly dull, just like this frankly pitiful branch of Debenhams. It's cramped, small, and doesn't have the maze-like layout and atmosphere that lets one lose hours in some of it's rivals. I decided to do a little shopping while visiting Edinburgh. I wandered into Debenham's not knowing what to expect. I suppose that if I lived in Edinburgh, my review might have been different. But I didn't find anything here that I couldn't get at Macy's and not have to ship or schlep home. It's a bit of a maze and it's layout isn't the greatest. There are 4 big department stores in the centre of edinburgh (Frasers, Jenners, John Lewis and Debenhams). Even though Debenhams stocks alot of the same brands it feels quite cheap due to the decor. Not my favorite Debenhams in town only because I get lost!! I always end up circling around looking for the way back down stairs.. This store has a good selection of goods, Red herring, John Rocha , Julian McDonald , wedding floor, means wear, childrens wear, perfume, make up counters, lingerie and some concessions such as Jane Norman and Faith. Staff are always available to help and there are many till points dotted around throughout the store. Debenhams have a small cafe on the 2nd floor, a bit pricey though. Debenhams have some great blue cross events and more recently up to 70% off. read more

This is a great department store in the city centre of Edinburgh, it is over 5 floors - basement has young fashion, lower basement has menswear, ground level is bags & cosmetics, 1st floor is womans fashion & shoes, 2nd floor is womans fashion and lingerie, 3rd floor is homeware. You can find everything you need here. The designers at Debenhams range is fantastic - John Rocha, Jasper Conran, John Richmond, Star by Julian McDonald, Betty Jackson to name but a few. There is also a Wallis, Principles and Red herring. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is a small café on the 1st floor and a slightly larger restaurant on the top floor. If you have a gold card you get 20% off your food. read more

**This review is for the Sparkles and Sequins Event**** 21/11/12 I guess I should be the first to write an honest review of the event evening... so here goes.....deep breaths... I was sooo excited about attending this event, that I chatted to my friends about it & invited one along as she needed ideas for her Christmas night out. I love Debenhams, especially Jasper Conran, and I like nothing better than to mull around the store. I was extremely dissapointed by The Sparkles and Sequins event that was held. Myself and friend were early, so we had a little look around the store, which was pleasent enough as the store was quiet (it was nearly closing time). We then waitied at the front entrance for the other lovely Yelpers to turn up, by this point people were coming in out the cold to come to the event. Their was no clear direction on where people were to go except for a notice at the bottom of the escalators advisitng 'Party Event 25% off' That was it. 6.30pm came and went and it was only at 6.45pm did two girls start to hand out drinks in plastic ' canteen' cups, one of which was pouring at the same time! Slooooooowwwwwwwwwww ' there's free wine and nibbles' They then fumbled around with some chocolate fingers and truffles. What happened to the canapes we were promised?!! their was barely enough for everyone and by that point we knew it was going to be what I can only descibe as an utter shambles. The girls were getting flustered and a little annoyed and so were the event attendees ( some of which paid £ 10 for the experience!!! ) No -one came to greet us to advise us of the nights plans or where to go, please note that the event was expecting over 150 attendees!! The entrance of Debenhams at that point was gettting unbelievabley busy and people then just had to have a wander around as they were unsure what was happening. Myself and some other Yelpers decided to go upstairs to where the fashion show was rumoured to be on soon and as I got to the top I then found out they were then giving out 'goodie bags' downstairs ( Black small plastic debenhams bags, which a few samples in it) It was a fight for anything !! Their was two or three make up consutlants for the 'makeup glamour masterclasses to make you sparkle' but for the amount of people there, their was actually no point in hanging about all night just to speak to one about a mascara !! Also advertised in the event was ' Laura Russell one of Edinburgh's top Personal Stylists from Satisfashion will be on and to show you the best looks for you ' - Who ??? we never got introduced to Laura or where to locate her ?? We got some cards on some tables, but that was that! The event offered 20-25% off party wear, sorry to sound unappreciative but cant you get that ocassionally by ordering online? 'Every guest gets a complimentary ticket to Foodies Christmas' - No I didnt , did anyone else???!!! By this point I was not interested in going to the 'Fashion Show' . If i had purchased £10 tickets id be asking to be refunded. I think by this point it had seemed like about of people had left!! I recently joined the Sunday Brunch Club as I was impressed with such a great sounding event, however it was so un-organised and a complete shambles. They only good thing about it was I got to meet some lovely fellow Yelpers and have a chat & we are hoping to meet up soon. read more

One of the big department stores in city centre of Edinburgh. It is situated on famous Princes Street. It have five floors, with huge, old fashioned stairs in the landing which leads to first floor. i went to endiburgh on a birthday trip. so some of my family had given me vouchers for debenhams to spend when i got there. being used to the debenhams stores in manchester i was expecting quite a lot of choice in what they had instore and the different concessions they would have. However this is only a very small debenhams store so there main focus is on their own brands which are a little old fashioned for me. and a very small fragrance and makeup section. i did manage to find a few bargains and they did still have the bargain sales that they have in debenhams but just not as much choice. be aware of the set out instore, can be a little confusing. read more

Debenhams is a large department store situated on princes Street. It has a wide selection of goods. The beauty department is really good and is on the ground floor. There are cafes on the first floor and on the top floor along with the toilets. There is a big ladieswear department with clothes from high street shops including Dorothy Perkins and Principles as well as their own ranges. A great department store where you really can find just about anything under the one roof. The ground floor provides a great choice of accessories and perfume and cosmetics, while the lower ground floor contains younger fashion with labels such as Red Herring. Upstairs you will find a well-stocked lingerie section, and designer labels, with homeware, occasion wear, shoes and a restaurant on the upper floors. The staff are always pleasant and helpful, and I haven't had any problems when previously needing to return an item. My one criticism would be the slightly over-zealous promotions staff who give you little choice but to submit to their body scrub etc demonstrations, but otherwise Debenhams provides a very pleasant shopping experience. read more

This large department store in Edinburgh is a very nice store which does sell some designer brands and of there own company brands too. I do think there customer service there is rather poor and could be improved a lot. The shopping experience is nice because it is nicely laid out and the store has loads of levels so you can go to the coffee shop then head over to the ladies wear, while the rest of the family head over to the children or menswear. Or with friends, head over to the beauty counter. It is a nice place to visit beside the other large department stores on Princes Street. read more
