Awwwwww! That is exactly what I thought when I popped into Bohemia the other day. This children's…read moreboutiques just screams cuteness and many of the toys are too nice to let your terrible tots play with, they'd be better used as ornaments. They had a huge section with wooden and fabric food and I was tempted to buy a cuddly banana but seeing as I'm not under 3 I thought it was best not to as I'd probably end up wondering why I'd bought it in the first place. They also had a wooden cake stand with a wooden cake display on it, it was gorgeous! There was also a good selection of Eric Carle toys and books and as I love the Hungriest Caterpillar this was a huge plus for me. In addition the children's clothing and toys there's also a small ladies fashion section with a rail of pretty tops and dresses. In addition to this there's a little vanity table that has Paul and Joe make-up displayed on it beautifully. I also have to mention the staff who were lovely and really friendly, when I popped in it was two girls working and they couldn't have been nicer, chatting away to all the customers and making everyone feel really welcome indeed, very knowledgeable about the products and seemed to really like working here too. Definitely deserving of five stars.

My friends and I always try very hard not to ogle the shop on our walk from Scotmid to my house and vice-versa. We avert our eyes because things in there are pretty and not cheap at all. Sometimes, though, there are those rare occasions when there's something at a reasonable price. My flatmate and another friend bought me a gorgeous dress for only 15 pounds, while most dresses there are in the 40 pound price range, if not more. They also sell children's clothes. I'm not sure if this is specific to the Marchmont area (there are lots of middle-class parents in this area as well as students). The women who work there have always been really kind to me. The dress my friends bought me had a tiny fault and they sent it off to get repaired at the tailor's for me. I don't know if this was standard, but I'm just glad I didn't have to argue about it at all. I'm not a fan of confrontation, you see. So if you do have some money to spend, this is a great place to get something, as the shop advertises, bohemian and dressy.

It's because it's around the corner from my house. However, quality and proximity are not mutually exclusive in this game. My flatmate, once upon a time, was having a bit of a hard time, so another flatmate and I popped down to Debra and bought him a guitar for 15 squid. Maybe it was 20. But it wasnae more than that. Also, because Debra can proudly say that it's the only charity shop in Marchmont, and students are, say, lazy, lots of their foregone goods end up finding their way to Debra's racks. Obviously, it's not just student's second hand clothes, but you get what I mean, right? The prices are standard charity-shop prices and the people who work there are always up for a chat and for giving you a hand. Maybe if you twirl, they might compliment you on the flow of your skirt. I haven't tried that yet, but they seem like that kinda folk.

Most of them are students as well, who therefore love to shop in charity shops, meaning that there's a very high turnaround of items and so always something new. Clothes are what is best here, but you can also get good furniture - usually displayed on the street because it won't fit inside - as well as books and DVDs. I've actually had to stop myself going there too often, as I've noticed that I'm incapable of leaving with less than three items, and even at thrift store prices that starts to add up!

Vivaldi sell a vast selection of unique and eclectic women's clothes ranging from everyday clothes, to practical work clothes and to evening dresses. They stock a selection of different designers so there is bound to be something in this store to suit everybody's style. I bought a lovely summer skirt from Vivaldi a few months ago, which was around £50, and is absolutely gorgeous. I have worn it a lot and it has been washed several times and it still looks as good as new. Vivaldi also sell a whole range of women's accessories such as handbags, jewelry, scarves and best of all, shoes! The shoes which Vivaldi stock are from a range of different designers and they are all completely beautiful. Vivaldi is a complete treasure of a store and it is definitely a must-see shop.

I'm not complaining however, because although the clothes in here aren't my cup of tea, the bags are beautiful and really hard wearing. Brilliant store out on Bruntsfield Place.

An iconic range of macs with the most fantastic linings are by the far the best thing in the shop. I tip my beret to that. But, like Alice, there're a few things I don't like about the store. As much as I am more sympathetic towards independent designers charging a ton for their clothing, it's still unaffordable for many It's not just that I can't even stretch to buy a scarf from here...I can see a lot of people being shut out by the price tags. The clothes are elegant, gorgeous and impeccably well made, but the accessories are marred by tacky Totty Rocks logo's sewn on to the front. If there's something I loathe, it's designers brandishing their name over otherwise gorgeous clothes. All the high end fashion movers and shakers do it but no one has seemed to clock on to how hideous it looks. It reminds me of when people used to moronically scrawl their name over desks in high school. Just in case you forget where you bought it, there's the name handily written on the front for you! Like you wouldn't recall spending a frivilous amount on such a purchase. If you like it enough to pay 40 quid for it, you're going to remember where you bought it. I felt like Pretty Woman in here, when she's frogmarched out a shop in LA for looking cheap. The staff have a bit of an icy exterior that makes me petrified to ask for anything. I don't know if it would be different if I had money. If you can afford it they have some beautiful, sophsticated dresses that are modelled on the glamour eras of the 40s and 50s. I like their summer collection because it was full of free spirited whimsy. A bit like Kate Moss's range when she was into her chilled out country clothing, only arguably much better in design. But I felt like I was trespassing in a richer territory that I just can't afford. And even if you can't afford anything, you shouldn't be made to feel as though you're wasting time browsing in a store.

Situated in the Grassmarket area of Edinburgh, Lady JoJo's Boutique is just around the corner from the Royal Mile and it is a short walk to the main shopping street in Edinburgh, Princes Street, and so it is a convenient place to reach. This store is relatively new on the Edinburgh clothing scene, and it is a definite welcome addition. I love to come here and browse the shop and admire their beautiful stock. The boutique is pretty small inside but it boasts a beautiful selection of dresses, tops, trousers and accessories. I bought an absolutely gorgeous dress here several months ago, and it cost around £50, but it is of excellent quality and I wear a lot when I go out so it is definitely good value for money. The stock changes over quite a bit, so I find that if there is something I like, its probably best to buy it there and then rather than waiting a week and finding out its not longer on sale - that has happened to me several times!! The staff are really friendly and warm too. Lady JoJo's is a great place to go to buck the trend and buy your clothes from a non-high street store.

I was drawn inside by the kitsch sign and the funky name. 'Lady JoJo's' sounded like my kind of shop. I wasn't disappointed when I stepped inside, and was greeted by the two lovely young shop assistants. The stock is sparse, which one of the said assistants explained was because they were simply testing the water to see what kind of stuff people liked best. Rails of gorgeous retro swing dresses and frilly knickers really caught my eye, as did the old fashioned dresser table adorned with gorgeous jewellery and seamed stockings. The boutique oozed with the retro glamour of Betty Paige and 1950's style, which is quite unique in Edinburgh and stocks ranges such as 'What Katie Did' and 'Love Kills'. A handmade necklace with two chunky red hearts emblazoned with 'Pin Up Girl' really caught my eye. I bought the necklace and was pleasantly surprised when it was only £8, with a 20% discount complimentary because the shop had just opened. Perfect! I will certainly be visiting in a couple of weeks when it is more established and full of gorgeous Pin Up clothes and jewellery.
