The store layout seemed a little dated compared to other M&S stores I've been to, but the food hall was really well stocked and the bathrooms were clean. They had some different clothing items that I hadn't seen before. Definitely worth popping in if you're in town. read more

Marks and Spencer is a big and well known British retailer.  As we were walking around New Town, we putzed around in this store located in a prime stretch of Princes St and right across the street from the landmark Scott Monument.  It was a very busy store on a Saturday afternoon.  It was a good opportunity though for the wife to pick up some items like shortbreads, crackers, and cookies, and such as gift boxes and at reasonable prices.  Self check-out was popular and worked well here. read more

This review is for the food hall. In America a food hall from my understanding is like a lot of fast food restaurants all under one roof. This is a grocery store. My brother in law went in the food hall down the stairs on a whim and we all waited. After that we ended up going daily for food. The olives are awesome. The prepared meals are good. So much of the food is really good. The Spanish tapas package with cheese and two types of meat was great. Soups! The soups were so good! read more

This is a nice, large Marks and Spencer store, located on Princes Street in Edinburgh city centre. Despite being a pretty large store, it's fairly easy to navigate around the store, including the Food Hall, the store is fairly modern, attractive and tidy too. The selection in the store is pretty good, and they also use Marks and Spencer's app to scan items as you're going around the store before you are able to pay using your mobile phone and leave, which makes the checkout and payment process so much simpler. As far as I'm aware, this is the only Marks and Spencer store in Edinburgh to offer this feature, the only other location nearby, at Waverley Station strangely does not. I was able to find the items I was looking for, but it was the bare minimum essentials, including cow's milk to take back to my hotel. The store has recently announced plans to extend their opening hours from 7 pm to 8 pm, which is much appreciated, having visited the store in March, I found their 7 pm closing to be far too early, for a large store in a large city, and hope they stick to the 8 pm closing now, as it's much more reasonable. I did find the number of short escalators to be concerning, for those people who may have specific access problems, but lifts are provided around the store. 4* - A good Marks and Spencer location. read more

Also Yumnuts, their luxury version of donuts (try the Billionaire or the Raspberry). Besides food I always try to get some loungewear in M&S. They got great quality that will last for years. This is our go to grocer when in Edinburgh. The Foodhall in M&S is busy, busy, busy being located right on Princes Street (located through a set of double doors that lead down into the basement), but we've always had great success grabbing the things we need without any problem (unless it was the last hour or so of opening, then for sure expect to see no or limited produce available... also, I'm not sure about the remaining baked goods still sitting out at the time, but that's a personal preference isn't it?). It's an easy to navigate layout, the self checkout is quick, and the ready meals/ready-made sandwiches are some of our favorites. We appreciated the back corner of the market having an entirely vegan/vegetarian wall of eats. M&S' Plant Kitchen has some really interesting and diverse options (those Not-zzarella Sticks are so, so good). Will for sure lean on this store to stock up on supplies and treats when we're back! read more

I arrived in Edinburgh last week with nothing but jeans in tow, knowing that I had a couple afternoon teas booked for which I wanted something a bit more formal. So, I popped into M&S early this morning, prior to an 11am tea - I wasn't let down. I walked out with a beautiful pair of black pants (not sure how to describe them - the fabric almost seems embossed), as well as two hats and a scarf. All this for just over £70, which I felt was very fair for the look and quality of the items. The girl staffing the fitting room was kind and helpful as I ran back for different sizes and lengths three separate times, and allowed me to leave all my stuff in the fitting room as I did. Checkout was quick, and again, the woman checking me out was very friendly. I didn't make it past the ground floor, so I can only imagine what else this M&S has to offer. But, I'll say this to my fellow travelers - if you find yourself in need of new clothes, or just something slightly different that what you've packed, give M&S a try. They've got a huge selection, and it won't break your budget. read more

Oh my. Like oh my goodness I'm in foodie heaven. I'm almost kicking myself that I've lived in Edinburgh this long, walking past M&S who knows how many times, without ever thinking to stop in. In my defense the food hall could certainly be marketed better. Nonetheless, locals seem to know what's up. This place was packed with shoppers either grabbing a quick lunch or doing their groceries for the week. Sadly I couldn't stay as long as I wanted, but I could quite easily spend hours in this place shopping for different produce, exotic foods and wines. I stocked up on quite a few ready meals which there was a huge selection of and some artisan hot chocolate which so far I've only been able to find on amazon. It's pricier than most grocers and I don't know if it's because of the brand or location, but if your love good food then this is certainly a haven. read more

I was just wandering through town this morning, looking at the shop windows. It was before 9, so not everywhere was open yet, but M&S was! So in I swooshed to have a look at the dresses and skirts. Now, if you saw my profile photo or know who I am, you've probably guessed that I'm a man, though I like to wear skirts and dresses. I tell you this only because it's relevant to the review. On this particular day, I was wearing leggings and a shortish skater dress as I pondered what would suit me and what was on sale. I found a black skirt that was not on sale, but gorgeous! (see photo) Quality seemed good AND it was machine washable! (as a recent convert to wearing clothing generally made for women, it's a new thing for me to have to look for that sort of thing. All men's clothes are machine washable unless they're suits... And I don't often wear those. So again my privilege has spoiled me rotten.) I had a chat with two of the lovely people working there about fit and size, and went on my way. Okay. So that's the story... Why am I telling you this? Well, as I mentioned, I'm kind of new to this. I've only recently come to terms with my desire to wear dresses casually. I started wearing kilts and some "unisex-looking" skirts last year, and this month I took the plunge to wear something that was less of a half measure. This was my first time walking into a store on my own to look at clothes in the "women's" section. (Will we ever have big stores that just sell "CLOTHES"?) I was nervous, though nobody would be able to tell, that I would be openly gawked at, or that I would be stopped on my way into the fitting rooms. However, all the while through my experience here, I was treated NOT as a man in a dress looking at women's clothes, but as a customer looking at clothes. And that was incredibly helpful to me at that point. I should have got their names, but I didn't. So, M&S people, if you read this... Show it to your personnel and they'll know who they are. I don't shop in Marks and Spencers for clothes as I haven't reached forty and don't have three kids. But I do love: 1. Their underwear department. There always seems to be a sale section full of ridiculous bargains. I got a bra in here for 98p. 98p! How many things can you still buy for 98p? As a bargain hunter, this makes me happy. 2. The home department. This store doesn't have the best home department in all the Marks and Sparks, but they do have some nice things. And again, there can be some fantastic reductions in some good quality gear. I got a nice blanket in here for a tenner which keeps me nice and warm during the cold winter. And summer. 3. The food department. Everyone knows about Marks and Sparks food department and if you don't, well you don't deserve to shop there. Percy Pigs: Nuff said. Yes Marks and Spencers might be a little old fashioned and snobby, but it keeps the Neds out (which I am convicted are taking over the country) and maintains high standards. I LOVE Marks and Spencers food. The melt in mouth chocolate cookies, the delicious range of sandwiches, the crisp vegetable pizzas and not forgetting Percy Pigs! This is an excellent branch on Marks & Sparks simply food, it's huge so has an excellent selection but the only downside is that it can get ridiculously busy due to it's prime location on Princes Street but I don't let that put me off venturing in. Nothing keeps me away from my Percy Pigs, not even 10 mile long queues. If there's one thing I spend a lot of money on, it's food. Eating is my favourite thing to do and I just can't resist the goodness of trusty old Markies! I was doing a bit of shopping in nearby Topshop and was getting a little bit tired out, it's hard work being a shopaholic you know! So, I decided to head along to Simply Food for a bite to eat. I had a hankering for their delicious chicken cous cous salad box with pumpkin, green beans and balsamic vinegar dressing. I made a bee-line for the sandwiches section and snatched up a box of my favourite salad. I couldn't resist browsing the sandwiches and ended up getting a salmon and cream cheese sarnie too. Once I'd grabbed a juice box and a cookie I was on my merry way to the checkout. Love M&S food and although I don't shop in here every week then I do pop in a couple of times a month to stock up. Food is still good quality - I used to work in food manufacturing for an M&S producer so I know how strict they are on quality. Plus, I'm very impressed with their ever increasing range of gluten free foods - lots of things previously off limits are available here - sauces, chicken in breadcrumbs, Christmas cakes, and all the 'bits' needed for Chrimbo - the food catelogue is sheer food porn and all products are clearly labelled as to whether they are suitable for dietary requirements. It is worth popping in - the meal for £10 is good value (for two people or several nights meals if you live alone) and they sometimes have good deals on booze (champagne which is lovely at £16 a bottle currently). Yes, it can be a bit rammed on a Saturday afternoon, but sharpen those elbows to grab your goodies. This is my pampering place for good quality food, so M&S, I love ya! read more

I LOVE food and I LOVE to cook so I think this place is perfect! I'm only reviewing the food department because I don't buy anything else in M&S other than food. The food mart is medium size. They sell different types of vegetables....pretty good stuff but expensive as well! The type of food they sell are as follows: uncook meats (chicken, beef, pork, lamb) uncook seafood (fish, shrimp). This place doesn't have a butcher so the meat section is pretty limited. They sell the typical cooked prepared meals. It ranges from British food to Spanish, Mexican, Italian, Indian, Chinese. They have really good take out box offers which runs for about £8-£10 and feed two even three people. They also have sandwiches and various salads. This store does have a small bakery, and you can grab yourself fresh bake goods all throughout the day. I recommend their cheese breads cause they are so soft, flavourful with cheese... I can eat a whole loaf in one sitting, not good! But for £1.90, I'll take it! They also have loads of desserts, M&S sells the best desserts so you can't really go wrong with it. They have a small section for cheese, dairy products and frozen food mostly chips and ice cream as well as some frozen food. There's an aisle that is dedicated to selling seasonal goodies like chocolates and biscuits. Small section of home products and toiletries. If you want crisps and wine, this is an awesome place to go because they have so many different selections. I noticed they have a small section for gluten free products such as flour, pasta, some sweets. I love this place and even if it's a bit more pricier than other food market, the quality is great and the food taste awesome. This is always my go to place on a Friday night especially since I always get the dinner deal for 2... A main, a side, dessert and wine for £10! What's not to love about that deal?! As quintessentially British as fish and chips, moaning about the weather and bitterness, Marks and Sparks has went for an image change over the past few years, and as the other reviewers have pointed out, have had some success in dumping their fuddy duddy image and luring in younger customers to their fashion section. However, despite being clearly at the cutting edge of fashion, it's still always the food hall that drags me in. It's no myth that everything from a pre-packed ham sandwich to a full ready meal here tastes better than almost anywhere else, and although it is undeniably quite pricey you really do get what you pay for at M&S. My most recent highlight was a crispy chinese chicken dish that was easily restaurant quality, and a tub of the most moreish flapjacks imaginable. Top notch. read more

What is there not to love about a Marks and Spencer Cafe!?!? They are easy to find....... pretty much safe to assume if you are in Marks and Spencer you are going along the right track! They are reliable, they have a wide selection of cakes, sandwiches, toasties, and hot meals too, it is cheap, oh and the little mini biscuit you get with hot drinks (it is the small things that matter!) Ok, so I decided it had been a while since I had gone and had my favourite, a cheese scone (they are SOOO tasty!) and a Chai Tea Latte. On a serious note, Chai Tea Latte fans, you have to, you must, I thoroughly encourage you to go to a Marks and Spencer cafe...... why??? They make the best Chai Tea Latte I have EVER had!! They use proper chai teabags, not syrupy stuff that tastes like it, and it is like a big massive christmassy hug in quite a lovely sized mug! Granted whenever I go here I am by and far and a way the youngest customer by about 40 years, but I love it!?? I would much rather sit here in a nice, quiet, friendly atmosphere than some bustling city centre cafe full of rude people who are constantly in a rush! C'mon! It's Marks & Spencer! If you're visiting the U.K., you've gotta stop at Marks & Spencer. I remember visiting one in London when I was on a high school field trip many years ago. As another reviewer says, they're changing their old image in order to lure younger customers. I remember the one I visited back in '94 was oh-so conservative. I was shedding my grunge image back then. It reminds me of the old Kaufmann's in my native Pittsburgh before Macy's got its hands on that venerable institution. This place has a foodhall. Kaufmann's had a foodhall. This place has a bakery, wine shop, and floral shop. Kaufmann's had them too. This place has electronics and, well you get the idea. After so many expensive meals while travelling abroad, we relied upon M&S for a few picnic lunches. The grocery is superb! Bakery bread, sliced gouda, deli meat, pork pies, apples, GORGEOUS strawberries and grapes, cookies, and you're all set. They had a huge array of foods for all palates and diet requirements. Everything was of very high quality, freshness, and taste. It was both a relief to the wallet, and to the stomach, to get good helpings of berries after the heavier restaurant meals. I have never had more delicious strawberries in my life. They were nicely and logically arranged, and the checkout procedures were easy and stressless. Anyone we encountered for directions or transactions was super cordial. The M&S stores are all over the UK, so it was good to know they were there. read more

This Marks and Sparks feeds the masses. It's right in the middle of Princes Street so whenever the power-suits or baggy-briefed alike need their lunch, they come here. It's convenient and the food is good - why not! I can highly, highly recommend their sweet chilli prawns. I'm salivating at the thought. However, it's a bit of a victim of its own success. If you hit it at the wrong time, everything is gone, or if you hit it at the right time then you have to queue for about 10 minutes. This branch of Marks and Spencers is huge, and located right in the middle of Princes Street. As well as clothes, food and accessories, Marks and Spencer do a great range of gifts and kids toys, which are great value for money. I always pop in here to pick something up for lunch. I usually go for the sushi snack box, which is £1.15 or the King Prawn and sweet chilli wrap which comes in at just under £4, pretty expensive for a small wrap but I can't fault the taste! The bottled smoothies and fresh juices are brilliant too, and a wee bag of chocolate covered toffee popcorn is just irresistible! Yum! Fantastic for greetings cards too, I usually get nice wedding cards out of here. It's a mum's favourite, so a nice bath gel or own branded perfume will never go wrong for a birthday. The store has recently undergone a lot of refurbishment and has lost something of its character - and its coherence -along with it. Previously the food hall was accessible easily from the front of the store and the back - now you have to go in through a side door and down steps to get to it and it is very oddly laid out and crammed into a very small space which is a shame as it really used to be its saving grace. Now on the 1st floor they have a mish-mash of ladies clothing and the home department and the kids clothes are stuck in the bag next to the cafe. It really needs to get a bit more organised, or at lease give you a map so you know you are going in the right direction! read more

I love Marks and Spencer. It has always been the exciting options for picnic lunches, baked goods and innovative dishes which you just don't find at other supermarkets. It is more expensive for most things, though this price difference is usually evident in the quality of the products. Because of the price difference, I do find that this a place to come occasional, when in need of a treat! My boyfriend and I come here with a few things in mind usually: veggie Percy pigs (these are seriously addictive), the individual pots of raspberry jelly (which is vegetarian), and I come for here for the fantastic gluten free selection. The gluten free options here are limited, but quite innovative in relation to the competition. Alongside own brand GF loaves and rolls: hot cross buns, rich fruit cake, chocolate and cherry cake (my 2nd favourite), frangipane tray bake (my ABSOLUTE favourite-buttery, dense, intense), lemon cake (personally I found the lemon icing very weird and the sponge a bit dry), and various other seasonal offerings. This is great when Tesco just offers few treats and the bare minimum in terms of staples. I would love it if M&S could develop their own GF pastries, especially croissants... The fruit and vegetables here are also top notch, if not a little expensive. I discovered jazz apples here, way before other supermarkets had cottoned on to their superiority in flavour and texture. I bought the best mango I have had in the UK at this branch of M&S last year... It was imported from Brazil, ripe, sweet and flavoursome. I am not a ready meal person, but if I were I would buy them from here. I have bought the veggie nut roasts here on several occasions for Christmas when eating at a relative's house, and they have never disappointed. There is a good selection for veggies and many different cuisines, including French, Greek, Spanish, Indian, traditional British, Thai and Chinese. The aim is often to create fusion or authentic food. The puddings here are very exciting and the television adverts are notorious for ruining diets... Salted caramel profiteroles? Panettone bread pudding? Admittedly some of the standards are hit and miss, I am positive that the apple crumble from Sainsbury is better. In terms of innovation though, M&S wins. M&S is a department store and does sell clothes, stuff for the home, gifts and various other necessities and luxuries. I am not very familiar with their clothes, though I know my mum is crazy about them... The gifts often look pretty. There are several cafes in the store, and on the ground floor there is a travel exchange. The rate is often quite competitive. To conclude, think of M&S as a luxury brand and don't get too shocked at the prices. Maybe this isn't the place to buy everything, but it can certainly become a favourite for certain luxurious goods. read more

I'm a big M&S fan, perhaps it's something ingrained in me because of my upbringing and British culture, but in my mind the brand is synonymous with quality and good taste. Their clothes are not at the cutting edge of fashion, but if you need a good pair of black trousers or a cashmere jumper they come up tops every time. This store is brilliant as it manages to have everything under one(sprawling) roof: men's, women's and children's clothes, lingerie, home ware, a food hall and a cafe - all in the centre of Princes Street. The women's deparment is vast; it includes the slightly more expensive Autograph collection, a fantastic range of basic items (plain coloured vests, simple jumpers etc) and lots of cosy PJs. Their sales are a great time to visit as everything is massively reduced and the returns policy is very generous. read more

I'm not a huge fan of M&S I think because I didn't grow up here and so it's not been a part of my childhood. I don't really get the hype and hype tends to put me off places. But, I'm not actually here to review M&S products, I'm reviewing the online store/customer service/delivery service. They use this ridiculous delivery service located out in Livingston that only holds on to packages for 5 days before sending them back. If you are having a busy week and get in touch asking them to hold onto it for an extra day, they basically tell you to GTF and speak to M&S. So you then go speak to M&S about it and they say "yes no problem, we will send it out for an extra delivery for you because the delivery company messed up and didn't leave it in a safe place as you requested" and you think "cool, what good customer service!" But then that "extra delivery" never shows and when you contact M&S in a rage because the package has now been returned to them they say "oh yeah, we got in touch with the delivery company too late to schedule another delivery, but here's £5 so when you re-order the product, you can get special shipping." You then go back to them and say "uh, thanks for telling me that the product was going to be redelivered when it actually wasn't, and thanks for the £5, but actually I bought that expensive product with a 20% off voucher which I can't use anymore so £5 really isn't going to cover it" and you know what they do then? Ignore you. Or at least, they ignore me when the above happens to me. Moral of the story is, however you feel about M&S food, products and clothing, their delivery company is difficult to deal with if you have a busy life (especially when they ignore instructions to leave packages with neighbors or in a safe place), and the customer service isn't willing to do anything do keep a customer. Their customer complaint forms are even poorly set up so instead of containing a history of communication between M&S and the customer, you have to file something new every time and could theoretically get a new rep every time who had no idea what you're talking about. It's a shame because it really is a UK institution (and especially a shame because dammit I wanted those lights), but I absolutely won't be shopping here again. read more

This is a flagship M&S store in the sought-after shopping precinct of Princes street. I'll admit it, I'm a victim of the media. I've fallen for M&S after their clever ad campaign with Twiggy, Myleene Klass and now Danni Minogue. It was Myleene that really did it for me, because after seeing her model a short jacket, I knew I really, really wanted it. So after my next pay cheque I decided I'd take myself down and venture to the land where very few young-20 somethings have been before; I went shopping in Marks & Spencer. Sadly, they no longer had my jacket. But to my sheer surprise I managed to pick up several great items in the process of looking for it. In particular, a couple of great knits- most are quite reasonably priced and the quality is miles better than a lot of other high street stores. I also found a gorgeous chiffon dress at their 'Limited Edition Collection' at the front of the shop. This Marks and Spencers store in Edinburgh is very large, its has several floors for different products, homeware, clothing, coffee shop, etc. It gets very busy there during lunch time hours but the till operators are rather speedy at their jobs so you don't have to wait around too long in the queues. They sells some really nice looking women clothings, as well as mens, childrens and homeware items too. The quality of the items are excellent and not too pricey either. Hello I'm a 17 year old who just finished school in the summer of 2016 and Marks and Spencer was my first job after leaving school. All in all it was an excellent place to work with excellent staff facilities! On a whole the majority of the staff are very nice to get along with but unfortunately on the floor I was working on there was a women who I was working with that didn't like me or even try to get along with me at all for some reason. This review will be about the supermarket downstairs as I have not been into the shopping part. This place is one of the best things on Princes st if you ask me! I have walked by the entrance dozens of times and today as I did not get my bratwurst I was craving I finally decided to go down into this place. I LOVED IT! Its a big supermarket and the only giant one on Princes st. It had a good supply of lunch items like sandwiches and best of all Salads! Like a wall of fresh salads I was really impressed. The little bakery looked good as well as the wine section with lots of choices. Theres also 2 little cafes that serve food and coffees. I had a edamame salad and enjoyed it in the sit down area of the cafe. The prices are not to horrible either especially for the quality of the food which is awesome! So I have found my new quick lunch area when I feel like eating healthy and I recommend folks going here if you feel the same as I. read more

Marks and Spencers has always been a well known department store and has there products have always lasted a very long time. This store in particular is based on Princes Street in Edinburgh and close to all other high street stores, including another top department store called Jenners. This Marks and Spencers has several floors and it can get very busy in there, especially the cafe which is on the lower ground floor of the building. Because of its nice location it is close to the train station and bus routes. Also, the interior of the store is very nice, light and easy to follow areas. Its a great place to get something light to eat and theres a park opposite the store for a nice picnic eating area. read more
