Poor customer service. Boot Barn is usually my go-to for all things Western wear, however my recent visit was met with poor service that is turning me away. My father and I came in to make a last-minute purchase for a belt buckle (ordering elsewhere online wouldn't come in time). After looking in the buckle case and deciding which one we wanted, we asked the nearest employee if we could see the buckle and then check out. The male employee was quite literally lounging directly behind the glass case and did not offer to help us. He was leaning on the clothing rack and was visibly annoyed that he had to walk over when we asked if the case could be opened. He grabbed the key, unlocked it, and just stood there, saying nothing. My dad took it upon himself to start grabbing the buckles himself. This was very uncomfortable because it was clear this was a delicate display full of glass and high-value items. We felt like the employee should have been grabbing the buckles and bringing them out for us. When putting back one of the buckles, my dad accidentally knocked over the plastic holder in the very back (nothing broken thankfully). The employee continued to stand, slumped over saying nothing to us, not offering to help. As my dad (who is an older man in his 70s) struggled to fix the display, I had to step in and try and figure it out myself all while the employee stood beside us completely silent. As we waited in line for the register, the same employee came up to us and offered us the box for the buckle. Upon my own inspection, I noticed the box he provided had a sticker with a higher price tag than what was on the buckle itself. If I hadn't been paying attention, we would've been charged more! Thankfully the cashier was super bubbly and friendly! She helped us navigate using our points and coupons. During all of my other visits, we were assisted promptly. They have helped us pick out clothing styles and get different sizes from the back. It is a bit unfortunate though that this Boot Barn location stocks very limited style options in women's boots above a size 8.5 or so. It seems like the majority of boots above this size are work-boot style instead of fashionable ones like the smaller sizes. read more

My fiancé and I came in today around 11:11 AM to shop. We picked out what we wanted and got in line, fully understanding that it's the holidays so things get busy. We waited about 15-20 minutes with at least five people behind us. Two registers were open and three employees were behind the counter at first. When it was finally our turn, we walked up to the counter and the cashier looked directly at us, didn't acknowledge us at all, and then walked away. She and another girl who was doing absolutely nothing left the registers to go flirt with a guy who wasn't even in line. The only remaining cashier refused to help us and instead started helping the customer behind us. After waiting another 5 minutes with zero acknowledgment or support, we set our items down on the counter and walked out. The poor customer service started the moment we walked in. Every employee had an attitude, no one was willing to help, and one lady even rolled her eyes at my fiancé when he politely asked if she could unlock the bathroom for him. Absolutely trash service. You're better off buying online or going to a different store. Boot Barn Modesto seriously needs new management and staff who actually care about customers. read more

I love my boots. There is plenty of free and safe parking and ADA parking. The store is easy to locate in the Modesto Plaza Parkway. If you need your foot sized or have questions the staff is great. I'm on the fence. I would've done 1 star if it was rated on the experience entering the store. The security (an older woman) was not inviting at all. We entered and smiled and said hello and she stared straight right back at us ... and stayed staring and never said hello. I know that has nothing to do with boot barn but I would like to mention how unwelcome that made us feel the whole rest of the time we were there. Lol. The store alone has a lot of really great stuff. The women's clothing is soooo good, if you're looking for a lot of different styles and fun pieces to wear I definitely recommend boot barn. They also have a ton of cute boots of course but I don't personally go there for that (I know, lol). My hubby buys shoes here and they're totally worth the price. The people at cashier are always very kind, very inviting, and I appreciate that. When we're in the isles people always reach out and make sure my shopping experience is okay as well. But back to the intro, when we left the store I made it a point to say "bye, thank you" to the woman at the front (security) and she glared back at me and looked away. My hubby said goodnight and we almost felt judged for being there. We aren't the typical boot wearing people- we just love the style here and the great merchandise! So we already feel a little out of place when we go (just being honest). You would never want to put someone at the door that makes people who don't go often want to turn around and leave. I'm on a business trip from Florida. I needed some extra work clothes and decided to use my usual store brand (Boot Barn). They have always done me and my employees right. Tallahassee, FL is my main store and keeping that in mind I'm use to a high quality of service and professionalism. I arrived in Modesto, CA and decided to pickup some items from Boot Barn Modesto. I called to make sure they were open as one of the servers at the Doubletree told me to do so because of the stores poor quality of service! Wow! The Doubletree tells me this. That's crazy, I thought. I called, spoke to a lack luster lady and she slowly mentioned that they were open. Great and pressed for time I jumped in an UBER and headed over. When I arrived I approach the door with a sign stating, "Closed to Further Notice". I called and asked why they were closed, she hesitated and said we had a huge fire! Looking around I asked where, I'm out front. She hung up!!! If that was true why not state that on the door and be more sympathetic and professional to the customers that had no idea what was going on. Wow! She said no so i was talking to the person i was with in the dressing room. I went to this boot barn to purchase my son some boots and I found some perfume that I really liked. I purchased his boots, wallet, belt and perfume and when I got home realized that I accidentally purchased the wrong perfume. There is two scents in the same style box. And I accidentally picked up the wrong one. I went back to exchange it and they said they can't return it and I asked why and the cashier said all our perfume sales are final. My husband told her there isn't a sign nor was we informed of this at the time of purchase. The cashier said it's a new policy but it's not posted. The cashier called up the manager to see if they could make an exception being that it wasn't open or even used. The manager was very rude to us. My daughter and I just spent $200 on boots and when we checked out we asked for a box and they don't have boxes! ‍. I don't understand. They come in a box with the insert that protects the toe from getting dented. I store all my boots in their box. I will definitely not shop there again. They sell boots at feed stores as well. The boot selection is actually overwhelming it's so well stocked. We were asked no less than 15 times by different employees if we needed any assistance. The store was quite bustling while we were in today (holiday season) but I noted the employees did an excellent job of keeping things organized and out of the way. Every woman working my husband and I came into contact with was unfriendly and not helpful. When we inquired about a size one of the girls even said, like we were stupid, "the ones out are all we have, we sell from the floor, this isn't a place that keeps shoes in the back" and rolled her eyes and walked away! A few other girls working made it very clear that we were interrupting their conversation and they couldn't be bothered to answer our question, which I'm sorry was a quite simple question. He was an older gentlemen who first welcomed us into the store, and welcomed every person that came in after him. I would imagine he is the manager, and if he isn't, he should be! I watched him tend to many customers and he was full of knowledge and so friendly and patient. He rang us up, answered all of our questions, and gave my husband advice on lengthening the life of the boots and different things to care for them. (Including upselling us on a few more products from your store = spending more money than we even planned and being happy about it!) He also asked questions about my husbands job and job duties, ensuring he was getting boots that would last and withstand his job. This guy really is the greatest, and my husband and I (since we buy him a new pair of work boots EVERY year) will call next time and only go in when he is working to help us. The last two pairs of boots I've been pissed with the customer service we've received here, as well as the last time we were blantenly given wrong information by the girl working and when I called to complain was given the run around. Unfortunately, this is the convenient place for us to go so this was our third time returning. I guess third time is the charm though, because this gentleman completely changed our past two experiences. Ordered a pair of boots online for curbside pickup. Received confirmation email notifying me my boots were ready. I parked and called the store to let them know I was there. Girl told me she would finish ringing up the person in front of her and she would bring them right out. After watching several customers walk out with bags and appropriately 15 minutes later, I call back. "Still here waiting. We'll be right out!" Another 10 minutes goes by and still no boots. Normally, I would have just walked in and picked them up. The last 2 days I've been suffering a cold and under current circumstances I thought it would be more respectful to wait curbside. I finally had to walk in. Frustrated, I just asked to refund my card. I choose not to do business with unprofessional people who think it's ok to waste my time. The manager, Maribel, made no attempts to remedy the situation and cancelled my order. I did call Boot Barn customer service and filed a complaint. I got some female ariat saddle jeans and they fit great and look great and they are comfortable BUT... I went home and washed the jeans and put them on and wore them for about an hour and they start to itch soo i just ignored it and about 2 hours after they started making my legs itch and my butt so i took them off and my legs are covered in a rash and everywhere the jeans touched. She helped myself and family find dress ware for an event we were going to. She went by far above and beyond to make us happy and find what we were looking for. I have now been to this store in the past couple months on two different occasions for boots, hats, belts, etc. Sadly, I don't remember the first person who tried to meet our needs and did an ok job. However, it was on the second visit last week when we had exemplary service from Josh, who made it his business to know about the quality and care of the products in his store, some from store training and some from being interested in giving great customer service. With a few of the right questions to determine what items were needed and for what purpose, we were directed efficiently to each purchase and how to maintain them, properly gently up selling what other items were needed for keeping the quality intact longer...job well done, Josh! Customer service in the Modesto store is horrible. The associate that was helping me didn't know how to transfer shoes from another location and was rude when trying to figure out what I was needing. The manager she asked for help kept saying 'I don't know' to every question the girl asked when trying to ship these shoes from another location. Eventually got the shoes, decided to return them. Took them to the new Manteca store, customer service was AMAZING. The sales rep looks at the receipt, the Modesto location didn't even sell me the correct pair of shoes, the UPC was different and they wanted to offer me store credit. This Boot Barm doesn't deserve the brand. Consistently poor customer service. I went in for a pair of jeans and shirt and boots. One associate in very inappropriate short shorts who looked inappropriate in them walks over and I ask for my size with hundreds of pairs for a two for one sale(pants) She says I found one, then walks away. I asked a second employee if they had any other jeans on sale She says "no" then also walks away. They are very expensive for the poor quality.. I Brought these concerns to an Assistant Manager who promised to talk to store Manager and give me a call back I never got a call.. Two weeks go by.. WENT back to store ro look for boots, Store Manager Celina who very rudely stops me and accuses me of complaining just to get a discount "We don't discount merchandise. Then she asked WHY do you need these steel toe boots? I told her Im a Profesional truck driver and she actually rolled her eyes and laughed. I have contacted the District Manager and returned the boots and shirt and will NEVER shop here again. They all need to be retrained in proper customer service, appropriate verbiage during interactions, dress code, UN-helpfulness and conflict resolution. Shut down and start over from top to bottom!!
